Android 4.0 for Dell Streak 5? - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
My question is that is there an Android 4.0 ICS ROM for the Dell Streak 5?
Or is there one which is beta, or that is in development?

Had you searched the forums you would have found the following answer to your question.
No ICS ROM is currently possible unless someone comes along who is capable of reverse engineering the drivers. Consequently there are no beta ICS ROMs either.

DJ_steave is doing it, he has for streak 7 already

Thus the word "currently" in my post. Any reason why you felt the need to resurrect dead threads?

Yes DJ and giveen got us ICS for the S7... but lately its pretty much giveen with some quick help from DJ and a few others. But DJ himself said that unless someone provides the ICS drivers for the Streak 5, he has zero intent on tackling the job so you may wanna get your facts straight

built using hPa's cm9 files (with minor changes required to make it woking with aosp source tree).
LOADS of bugs to solve:
* flipped screen (not going be hard, i will try to incorporate hPa's kernel patches to dsc kernel tree snapshot and build one to see if it will help)
* 3d hw acceleraton is not working (aosp sources lack hardware/qcom/display, so i'm trying to find overlay that will work for streak )
* VERY laggy and unresponsive touchscreen. it's virtually impossible to unlock at the moment due to that ideas how to fix this are welcome

I saw a working version's screenshot of hPa's CM9 at Korean forums.
The owner of the thread was hPa.
Did you try to get help from hPa?

[INFO] Custom Kernels For CM7

Edit: Now CM7 is stable, can we plz get custom kernels
Old:
Kernel Devs refrain from making custom kernels for CM7 because the CM team asked them not to, in the alpha stage of the development.
Today i asked Atinm if he could give the green light to the Devs, he replied:
atinm said:
Actually, we don't care if people run other kernels. We just say that we will not debug other people's kernels - so if you have bugs, you go to the kernel developer's threads. Same as on the other Galaxy phones. And there is more chance of your phone being unstable with each nightly when you are on a different kernel and we change the kernel.

Great to see this.
I have 2questions.
1. Once we have these kernels will we be be able to flash files to enable Samsung stuff like Samsung dive, camera etc
2. Will new kernels be able to incorporate files from stock rom to fix the Bluetooth issue.
Thanks

CM 7.1 Stable has working bluetooth, and it wasn't a kernel issue, it was a driver source problem, Cyanogen either cracked it ahead of everyone else, or, got access to the missing source code, either way, winning like Charlie Sheen.
I have added my i9100 CyanogenMod 7.1 kernel with BLN support.
Details available here.

Correct, driver issues are not the same as the kernel.
I'd love to see some kernel supporting gpu oc-uv, it's a good feature for battery saving purposes imho.

CM9 for Dell streak 5

i just had a friend install cm9 rom for his xperia x8..and was wondering if it would work on dell streak...streak wins if compared with x8s hardware right???so if i could get any help...thanxs in advance
Read around the forum there are all kinds of driver issues.
unexpectedly a working cm7 came around. just so you know. read more about it in the corresponding threads here in the forums.
There is some hope of a CM9 port. A user from the korean forum where the CM7 port originated said the following on XDA:

Three developers were tries to make a CM9. They has a their own version of CM9 test rom. I don't know now they uses hPa's data but they were trying to make it.

EDIT:
Here's some more information about CM9 (and a link to source files for a test rom!), from the creator of the CM7 port:

I have ever been complied CM9. Touch, Vibration, Wifi, Sensor, Bluetooth(with some problems), Audio, RIL(Only MMS doesn't work.), GPS are work. (without Hardware Accelation)
At that time, I used config files from CM7.
mediafire s3dvjw58kpw9by2 <- cm9dev file
Kernel is also based on CM7.
You know that HWA needs modifying gpu driver and many other sources.
And now I don't have streak any more. So CM9 work is stopped...

is it better than CM7.2?this rom isnt more attractive. I think CM7.2 is enough for me to work and play. If its not better than that, maybe I'll be waiting for ICS
There are a few differences, but not enough to switch from CM7 in my opinion.

[DISCUSSION][ROM][P500] MIUI.us v4 ICS [2.8.17] by Zackconsole

Any questions, problems, or comments? Leave them here for others to reply! Let's keep the developmental thread clean of stuff that is not related to the development of the ROM (untested features, untested kernels, third party apps, etc; pretty much anything other than what comes stock with the rom). That's why that thread is in the development section. Now with that in mind, post away!
Keep up-to-date with the rom here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1821523
can we make thuis thread cover all 3 miui v4 2.8.3 roms in this device section?
Nope .. its better to ve separate threads.. coz all three are different.. it ll be a kinda mess:thumbdown:
So it's not exactly official? Or is it? I couldn't tell from reading the posts in the dev thread
it's an unofficial build
There will be any problem if i flash the rom with amonra 3.06 instead cwm???

To Prevent Any Confusion
MIUI Wont Support LDPI/MDPI Phone
But We From Miui.US might give this little phone official support(might be) but mostly you will get the weekly build for this device if it stable.
That all.
All Miuiv4 ROM are based on CM9/AOKP/AOSP/

Zackconsole, first of all thanks for your great ROM. It's almost stable for me, no problems except of known ones.
Just one thing i've noticed: could you check why vtb24 app(sorry, can't post the link because of posts count) isn't compatible with your ROM? It's compatible with all the ROMs i've tried(Lupo's, hep's, all MIUI ROMs) except of yours. Maybe something wrong with build.prop?
Thanks in advance.
Installed the new version. Did a full wipe, clear dalvik, cache.
Bugs i've encountered:
1. Crash when trying to enable Wi-Fi through settings.
2. Missing strings in settings(the first one leads to VPN and Tethering settings, the second one gives a crash.)
3. As mentioned in the development thread the com.android.media process crashes sometimes.
Thanks for fixing signal strength though:good:
Edit: can't get a log at the moment due to the missing Wi-Fi.

To be able to use and apply themes you have to create a folder @ /data/system/(Create New Folder)theme
Make sure it's lower case however. I think it matters.

Hi scritch007,
I have a suggestion for you, Fera and other devs. Since the ICS release from Fera is very much stable now and I believe next release of Fera Kernel and ICS (which will be included all your patches etc) will fix the problem reported by ppl so far. The rom is CM9 based rom is in stable state now thus you can focus on CM10 which is nascent while CM9 on which Fera is already working there must be a final release for CM9 and complete focus of all testers/devs/themers on CM10.
What you would say fellows?
Thanks
OK on another note
If you keep only the es209ra device tree on your laptop and keep it updated, I can run you the builds on my server. I have a full set of cm10 and cm9 sources there.
We can figure this stuff out once my semester exams ending.
Since my X10 is not daily, I am looking to help with it. ...
Changing LOG to ALOG itself was headache enough and then the gralloc was crashing on my face....
It's really amazing to see how far this one boots and works.

I don't totally agree in here with you. Fera made an amazing ROM, but it is ported from other devices libraries. I'd like to have a CM9 built that is fully working. On CM9 there is also stuff that don't work (properly). Wifi tethering for instance. Video recording/decoding
I tested your latest build its much stable than the cm10 build which tomgus and I had i can see that many minor bugs which were present in FXP cm9 are fixed. Good luck
Edit:- One thing have you ported any overlay parts from KTG or 3.0 kernel .
wow 4.1, this is like christmas gift :good:
I'm going to test, I have seen that
EDIT: i had replace kernel.sin from rom to tft kernel, then i can get to cwm

I feel what Faisal meant to say is that let's get the CM10 party started full-on.
Am sure it's hard to let something that's so close and so long that you have been involved with. It would be very community thing where Fera is already onto something and Scritch onto something better for the entire community. Pardon me if i 've been pushy. You guys got me X10 loving! Everyone always wants what newer and shinier, but cm9 still need some work. right now it's really good but im sure he knows it can be better thats why he continue working. And remember the devs are people just like you and I with offline lives and as you probably know that this kinda thing takes lots of time and especially since the cat was let out of the bag early people would want work to start on it and want it finished over night. hype aside, all we can do is wait and contribute in anyway we can.
In my opinion the devs must continue to develop CM9.
We should have a full working CM9 before going to CM10.
That way you talk, about leave CM9 and go on to CM10 will leave us without any completed stuff to use.
Next will be CM10.1 (Android 4.2) and then others, and if we always want the newest one we will end without anyone of those working like they should.

In case anyone is interested I tried every fix I could find in xda for reducing CM10 display flickering issue like disable/enable ing force gpu rendering, disable/enable ing hw overlay, changing minimum & maximum cpu frequency but none worked, they made a difference and changed the flickering pace & pattern but didn't solve it
Thanks a lot for you great work & contributions scritch007, truly a fan of your amazing work
btw is it me or this really seems smooth, a lot smoother than our current ics roms?

and the app drawer is basically blank screen so can only access the apps on the main screen only...
