Edit: Now CM7 is stable, can we plz get custom kernels
Old:
Kernel Devs refrain from making custom kernels for CM7 because the CM team asked them not to, in the alpha stage of the development.
Today i asked Atinm if he could give the green light to the Devs, he replied:
atinm said:
Actually, we don't care if people run other kernels. We just say that we will not debug other people's kernels - so if you have bugs, you go to the kernel developer's threads. Same as on the other Galaxy phones. And there is more chance of your phone being unstable with each nightly when you are on a different kernel and we change the kernel.

Great to see this.
I have 2questions.
1. Once we have these kernels will we be be able to flash files to enable Samsung stuff like Samsung dive, camera etc
2. Will new kernels be able to incorporate files from stock rom to fix the Bluetooth issue.
Thanks

CM 7.1 Stable has working bluetooth, and it wasn't a kernel issue, it was a driver source problem, Cyanogen either cracked it ahead of everyone else, or, got access to the missing source code, either way, winning like Charlie Sheen.
I have added my i9100 CyanogenMod 7.1 kernel with BLN support.
Details available here.

Correct, driver issues are not the same as the kernel.
I'd love to see some kernel supporting gpu oc-uv, it's a good feature for battery saving purposes imho.

There is no option given by dell for any update on venue. so ICS for dell venue is mostly no...
I think so too
Maybe Dell won't support ICS for Venue...

Changkho1908, I see from the tinhte forum you installed the ICS ROM but it was not stable. Did you load MIUI 2.4.24 or 2.4.20? Is there a link for 2.5.11 on that site?
Is it true that the list of things not working for the ROM to you loaded is:
usb not recognized,
3G is not enabled,
no dc Keyboard entry pass to set the keypad ???
wifi
TV
Play Market Server Error error,
gmail is FC,
not sync contacts.
Thanks!

The MIUI works much better than the previous version. Still, I can not tell if it is based on CM7 or CM9. The MIUI website seems to indicate that it is CM9 based, but beats me. The build.prop shows 2.3.7 in the build description and build fingerprint. I am downloading the MIUI 2.5.25 for HTC One X, I will see what the build.prop says for that one, I am pretty sure that would be based on CM9.
Edit -
After digging around the 2.5.25 file, I am convinced this is built on CM7 and not CM9. It still looks nice though, much better than stock Froyo.

Thanks for the update mate.
SO it isnt ICS
Hi.
My question is that is there an Android 4.0 ICS ROM for the Dell Streak 5?
Or is there one which is beta, or that is in development?
Had you searched the forums you would have found the following answer to your question.
No ICS ROM is currently possible unless someone comes along who is capable of reverse engineering the drivers. Consequently there are no beta ICS ROMs either.
DJ_steave is doing it, he has for streak 7 already

Thus the word "currently" in my post. Any reason why you felt the need to resurrect dead threads?

Yes DJ and giveen got us ICS for the S7... but lately its pretty much giveen with some quick help from DJ and a few others. But DJ himself said that unless someone provides the ICS drivers for the Streak 5, he has zero intent on tackling the job so you may wanna get your facts straight

This is a port of AOKP.
/// I'm having a few issues with building from source, and wont put too much time into it until the 3.0 kernel has progressed a bit more. It's making it a little harder to test on the 8GB also. That's not to say that the devs aren't doing a great job because they are. I will try to get some more ports up when I get the time.
Be aware that any and all issues that are present in AOKP and in the current CM9 for the Nook will be here and then some.
CM9 Thread : Currently using Alpha 0.03
The AOKP Port used the build for the Kindle Fire ("Otter")
Remember that this was just for fun and not to expect any major fixes from me, also that this is less functional than any current CM9 build.
If anyone wants to help out feel free. And if any one finds any other issues post and I'll update the Op
The instructions will be the same as CM9.
The 8GB uses a different recovery and instructions can be found Here

Screen rotation fixed in build.prop, thanks Modded Darts
Original Release-------
The nook displays the screen as if it's orientation is 90 degrees off to one side, yet the touch points on the screen will correspond to the way that it should be. You'll see what I mean if you try it
Thanks to everyone involved with with development on the Nook without you I wouldn't have a CWM to flash with or a CM9 to port from (especially getting it working on the 8GB too).
Also thanks to the AOKP team.
Thanks

Any other details that might be necessary for anyone else wanting to take up this project or wanting to help you?
I did a port(no source build), and used aokp for the Kindle fire ("otter"), as it was the closest device I could see.

Is this running Kernel 3.0 or 2.6?
Could we have a link to the original rom thread? Is this it?
Screenshots?
Specific rom install instructions, if any.
I found this collection of themes and mods, maybe some will work.
Flashing
Flash it like you would Cm9 if you have a gingerbread based rom. If you have Cm9 simply flash over it.

I guess that was the thread for it although I didn't go there I just downloaded from the aokp server. Alot of mods may somewhat work, but remember that they are usually device specific so more issues may arise if you flash them.
And yes it should be what ever kernel and hardware files that cm9 is using as that is where they were all pulled from.
Rotation
I haven't tested it but about half down on the build.prop it says ro.sf.hwrotation=270 when it should say 360 instead of 270.
Edit:It works fixes the touches and rotation.
If Keith puts that fix in the .zip I'll try it. I'm exited for a new ROM to flash!

Well I went ahead and flashed it. Found out I need some kind of gapps, I'll just wait until you link them. Overall the ROM is very...... alpha. Pretty much everything is laggy and when I tried to change the processor speed and governor under rom control it crashed settings. I did try changing some of the options under rom control and it worked great. Not a daily driver yet, but I think it has potential. Keep up the good work. I look forward to when I can use this full time

Yeah no daily driver here either, running CM7 until I can run video and probably until the kernel gets farther along.
I assuming that governors and different cpu states (at least ocing), aren't supported in the kernel.
I'll link gapps when I get to my pc its the same as cm9/ics.

upgrading would always have its significant problem ... if you are prepared to handle all the problems that may arise...

like i said... if it is working as it should, dont upgrade... but if you want to try and experience it yourself, try dsc 1.0 first... then try others when you become familiar... there is no absolute problem because everyone face issues quite differently...
This is my first android phone so flashing roms was a huge challenge for me. But well worth the time. Currently using CM7 port and it has a lot more functions that I enjoy.
must be in gingerbread ,because more fast ,more stable ,front face camera. I flash all the roms that post in xda-dev.,now i am on [ROM] Miui-Lewa 2.3.7 beta.
I'm still on stock, never had a problem with it so never had enough urge to try anything else. I will probably flash whatever rom DJSteve comes up with though. (if he does) as it's bound to be a major step up.

Hi byakuya,
There are many many topic to read, sure you will be confused, so did I when I started. The best advice given to me by senior members here was to get familiarize with xda-developers.com. But anyway, here is how I got started:
1) There are forums divided into 5 sections at here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=695
I think you know this already, correct?
2) There is Dell Streak 5 wiki here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dell_Streak
a) Scroll below, and you will find Stock ROMs and Recoveries links. - Note, still you have to find specific forums to tell you more. The more the better!
DO NOT go blindly doing things.
b) Scroll below more, and you will find Custom ROM title with link to the Custom ROM page.
Or you could just go to this link directly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Dell_Streak_5/ROMs
On that ROMs page I mention, scroll below until you see
_n0p_ DSC 1.0 2.3.3 407 Yes Mar 26, 2012 Link Mirror
***You must click the Mirror that will start the downloading. Note, the Link is no more there, maybe _nop_ has taken it out.
I just recently download the DSC v1.0 and flash it, it works, but I did not use it more than 30 minutes as I was just testing a short while. I can't say more.
One more thing, you really got to read more, I am still learning too. It does requires patience and calmness, but it would help from getting into big trouble later. Reading is a MUST.
A Senior Member, Strephon Alkhalikoi, shared me this link that explain Kernel & Baseband difference :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574886
And in that post you can find, Theonew, Recognized Contributor, share this link on Android Terms,Slang,Definitions & Guides !Revised! UPDATED!! 06/12/2013 :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466228
OK. Hope that will help.
