ADB and HTC Driver issue - HTC Amaze 4G

Hi, I am pretty much an advance user and I have searched the boards and google for the issue that I am experiencing. So before I go into here is my system in a nutshell.
HTC Amaze 4G
ICS 4.0.3
I am rooted and S-Off with Hboot English
I do have usb debugging enabled
I do have unknown sources enabled as well.
When i go into command prompt and enter adb devices it does indicate my device is active and showing.
HTC Sync 3.2.10
HTC Driver 3.0.007
Win 7 ultimate x64
Now the issue, when i enter a command into command prompt like for example fastboot oem lock i get waiting for device hanging message. My phone is connected via oem cable that came with the phone. When i go to device manager it show under device "My HTC" listed as my device.
I have also downloaded the latest fastboot and adb from andriod SDK however it does for some odd reason say sometimes using an outdated version of adb server.
So can anyone share some insight on what I am doing wrong? I hope all the info helps and any help is much appreciated.

A couple things you could try are:
Restarting your PC
Try using the USB ports in the back of computer if its a desktop
And double check that USB debugging is on. And you select charge only

Ill give the restart a try. USB debugging is indeed enabled and I do have charge only selected. Thanks any other things I could try?

Make sure nothing else is interfering with the same connection. Like a rouge program trying to connect with the phone. Did you leave try hasoons tool? Does the all in one tool fail also?

This a new fresh install of windows. hasoons gives me the same issue

Is there a separate version of the adb installation, one for 64bit and another for 32bit? I think I remember someone saying that they had to install the 32bit drivers for our phone in order to have success. Worth a shot?

I don't see any x64 version of htc sync from htc website. Hmmm

No I don't, I am not by a computer. Just my out of the box suggestion.

Once you are at a pc and find it let me know

Ok dude, here you go.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161769
However after thinking about it, the most likely problem is HTC sync being on the same time you are trying to adb. But these drivers on this link mentioned 64bit. I really hope this helps.

Frustrated :(

I know that I have seen posts on this, I have searched and searched.
I am trying to get back to bone stock and there are some great guides.
The problem I am having is my computer will not recognize my phone all of a sudden.
I have rebooted phone, and computer. I have tried all 3 USB ports on my computer.
It will not recognize my phone with htc sync (just installed) or the regular way.
How to I relock the bootloader if I cant even get adb to recognize the device?
Thanks in advance
Heather
Ok, check under your "device manager" when you have the phone plugged in. You should see it under "HTC ADB device" or "Android ADB Device" if you don't see it there, your drivers may not be working properly. Also does the phone go into charge mode when plugged in? Do you have USB debugging turned on?

I feel stupid.....I googled the drivers, just like in the link you sent me. I tried before I asked the question too. All the links are saying htc sync drivers, and all point to the software to sync phone to computer. I already have that. I did find a link to the actual drivers but it was broken.

If it's already installed then there's not much you can do. When you plug your phone in, it's in charge mode right? Not USB Mass storage or HTC Sync?
Uninstall and reinstall the htc sync and drivers. Then reinstall htc sync and the drivers, then uninstall htc sync only.
Then try a different usb port than usual. Maybe try hooking up your phone while it is in Hboot when you try to ruu or something.

Unless you're comfortable with using adb, know how to find or compile adb for ARM CPUs and have a tablet or device that allows usb host mode, then you're going to need a computer. As you need a computer to actually attempt to do that and cross compiling is a pain, that will likely not be an option.
Honestly, I wouldn't even bother doing that myself. Just a pain in the ass when it takes like 10 minutes to do on a PC without that versus some hours and a prayer.
Also you dont need to install anything to use adb on a PC, just the files for it. You could do this on a internet cafe pc, a friend's or a school computer. I mean if you can't find a computer through some means with given that, then I hope you're currently working for the Peace Corps in Sub-Saharan Africa and there's no electricity or phone lines.

Yeah you should be able to just grab adb from some random post on xda and run it and you'll be all set for what you need to root the manual way by downgrading and such. No install needed on the pc as long as you have a pc that runs windows, osx or linux. Just stick it on a usb stick or something and run. If you have issues, just post here again.
If you're using windows, then this should have everything you need in it to use adb without installing it:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?a3sx25laka08g0n
You'll just need to go to the directory you unzip it from and run adb in it from the command line.

I understand. I'm just getting frustrated. This is my first non-Samsung device since I came to Android world and already missing my Note . First the locked bootloader and now a simple task is giving me issues.
Odd question, but have you tried using a different micro usb cable/different port on your computer? Also, does the phone popup a "USB Connected" notification when you connect to the computer? You might try looking in Device Manager on your computer to see if the phone is showing up as an unknown device which would indicate a driver issue. Also make sure you've restarted your computer after installing the drivers just in case.
Got it working. Usb cable was the issue. The cake that I was using only charged the phone and did not transfer any data and that's why I wasn't getting any popup on Windows when I connected the phone.

If you are sure that cable is good, do the following:
- Uninstall all HTC related drivers from your computer.
- Restart computer
- Install HTC Sync (latest version). You can uninstall it later and leave the drivers.
- Restart your computer.
- Plug in your phone.
Hopefully, that should fix the issue.

CASUAL hangs up in Download mode

I'm trying to run CASUAL on my macbook; it starts up fine, begins to run, and puts my phone into Download mode, then hangs up. The phone never leaves Download mode (with the android logo, says "Downloading...do not turn off target!!"). I've tried both ports on my MB, tried using my OEM cable and my Nexus 7 cable, and I'm at a loss. Do I need to put my phone in ADB mode (voldown+home+power) first, THEN run CASUAL? I've updated Java, rebooted phone and mac, and made sure I'm running the latest mac-enable update for CASUAL.
Any help would be awesome!!

my thoughts also.
If it's getting to Download mode it has to be set to debugging, because it wouldn't get the adb commands to reboot otherwise. I had the same issue on my Kubuntu machine and never found a fix. I ended up doing on on a Win7 laptop instead (because my Win8 desktop was failing too).

good info! i have only used windows 7 so never had that problem.
I am definitely in debugging mode. That was one of the first things I turned on when I got my phone. haha
I'm still getting the hangup. I think Adam said CASUAL for mac is working for some, but others are having the same problem as I am. I just figured I was the only one, since no one posted on the forum about it.
I honestly think there is some dependency somewhere that Heimdall needs that we're not getting...something that's on some machines and not on others, and probably something Adam isn't even aware of. I was using my Kubuntu Linux machine that is specifically built for Android development and it was stopping at exactly the same place as your Mac. It was seeing the device just fine, able to send adb commands to it all day long, but as soon as it went into Download mode, it could no longer communicate. If you figure out the issue, I'd love to know what it is. I didn't spend much time on it since I had alternatives.
Yea I'm just waiting to hear any word from Adam on a fix. He confirmed to me that it does work on some macs, and not on others. I, apparently, am in the "others" category. haha Wish I was lucky enough to have a Windows PC layin around. The only computer I have is my mac, and it's the only thing I have for work and personal, so if something goes screwy (like a VM or Bootcamp installation), I'm effed. lol
Guess I'll just have to wait till someone figures it out.

Okay so I installed Windows 7 ultimate 32-bit in VirtualBox on my mac, got it up and running, got the latest Java update installed, installed CASUAL and got IT updated, now I can't get VB and Windows to recognize my phone. I've tried to install the latest drivers direct from the Samsung website, but they don't install (little popup in the taskbar tells me so...). At this point I'm ready to download Ubuntu and run that in VB. This whole thing reminded me why I hate Windows. hahaha
Any confirmation that CASUAL runs correctly in the latest Ubuntu build?
Plenty of people have gotten it to work. I didn't, but others have. I recommend a LiveCD instead of a VirtualBox. No weird VM issues that way.
Help needed
Was trying to jailbreak GN2 using Casual but my phone is stuck in the download mode and says,"do not turn off target" HELP!!!

[Q] I'm Convinced...

that CASUAL does not work. Oh wait, let me guess, I don't have the right (1 of how many different ones suggested) usb driver, right? And I'm not in ADB, right? And I haven't tried different cables, and ports, and CADI on its own, and zadig, and usbdeview, and pulling the battery when it stalls in download mode (when CASUAL was still recognizing the phone, now neither CASUAL nor ODIN connect to it)? Sorry for the sarcasm, but I'm incredibly frustrated here. How does "one click" turn into a week of trying and trying and trying, and not only not making progress, but seemingly moving backwards where now I can't even get programs to connect? Is there something less messy, contradictory (seriously, the dev thread says "stock anything" but when trying the battery pull and reboot it goes off on me: OMFG WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? I WARNED YOU! YOU NEED TO ROOT FIRST.) way to unlock? Or a more concise thread of troubleshooting CASUAL (And please, I don't need a link to the same dev thread I just referenced, again.)?
Well I guess the rest of us that followed Adam's thread and were easily unlocked and loading ROMs daily are magicians or something?
Try a different USB port and a different computer. I could not get it to work at all on one PC in Windows or Linux, but it worked first try as soon as I tried it on my laptop.

definitely having the same problem, my solution: going to reinstall Windows 7 and see if that fixes my problems. if that doesn't then I'll just install a Linux distro on my computer and install java and see if i can get it to run that way. if anything I'll try it on another laptop running Windows xp or another till i get this **** to work. it honestly can't be that hard to unlock the note 2. maybe I'll try to root first and then try to unlock.. idk but i have faith in Adam and the other devs who've helped him and tested for him. I'll get it to work or die trying, because Verizon deserves that middle finger, big time.
anyway good luck on your journey!

that CASUAL does not work. Or a more concise thread of troubleshooting CASUAL (And please, I don't need a link to the same dev thread I just referenced, again.)?

that's the best line I've heard today.
If you go the Linux route, just be sure to update the lib files, as stated in the casual thread. Linux worked perfectly for me, and I am a complete noob at this stuff.

definitely having the same problem, my solution: going to reinstall Windows 7 and see if that fixes my problems. if that doesn't then I'll just install a Linux distro on my computer and install java and see if i can get it to run that way. if anything I'll try it on another laptop running Windows xp or another till i get this **** to work. it honestly can't be that hard to unlock the note 2. maybe I'll try to root first and then try to unlock.. idk but i have faith in Adam and the other devs who've helped him and tested for him. I'll get it to work or die trying, because Verizon deserves that middle finger, big time.
anyway good luck on your journey!

Yep ive been through this to and finnally got it to work on my moms laptop. Our desktop is the only one I can use odin on and my moms laptop is the only one I can use casual on. When I have some spare time (or feel like it lol) im gonna try loading up a fresh install on windows 7 on 1 of my spare hard drives and see what happens from there. But for now im not really woried about it, just gonna roll with the flow.

I feel your pain but hang in there and keep trying. It took me 3 days and several hours to find the right combination that finally worked. If you follow the dev thread for a few days, you'll see that most everyone having problems eventually gets it to work through a combination of trial and error and support from the devs.
If you haven't already, try the driver suggestions in the last several pages of the dev thread. This seems to be helping quite a few others. Another thing to try is running the Casual jar file from an admin command prompt instead of double clicking the file. This worked for me.
