[Q] General Radio Questions - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
Sorry but I'm having a hard time of making sense of all the different Radio options.
When you flash a ROM does it install it's own generic Radio? Are you then expected to flash an alternative one to improve battery life and data speeds?
I'm located in Toronto with a Bell Atrix CM7.2 RC1 with a base band version N_01.07.05P(I'm assuming that is the radio). Lurking in the radio threads I can see that there are several different Bell radios. Should I be testing each Bell version to see which one gives me the best personal results, or is their a general consensus that one version is the best?
Also, I'm still pretty much a newb to all this, is their any warnings or issues that I should look out for when flashing radios(bricking, etc)?
Thanks

You should try different Bell radios. Some ROMs work better with particular radio version...

New Radio?

Ok, so I have searched and read thru the current radio treads. But havent seen much on 2.41.04.02.02, which i currently have. But my signal is not to great in Brooklyn. Should I try to flash to a different radio, and if so which one? Can you go down, or only flash up? Thx
Radio Search
It was about 3 pages back in the thread July Radio?, This is the radio from the Verizon 2.1 OTA update back in July. I can't attest to how well it will work but since it is the most recent radio that Verizon has issued I would assume it should be good 2 go.

Appearances are that you can use any radio version with any ROM (on the Eris, at least). I've mixed-n-matched all sorts of combinations, with no apparent (i.e., readily-observed) troubles.
IMO, it is somewhat unlikely that you will see any difference in signal strength. The radio firmware codes are pretty mature, and the minor revisions in their behavior are things which are probably only detectable by the carrier. (There is not a shred of credible evidence of people observing "beter signal" as a result of radio firmware upgrades on the Eris.)

[Q] Poor signal quality using KaosFroyo v39

I recently acquired a Droid Eris on Verizon since my Blackberry had been stolen and I didn't want to renew my contract or pay an ETF. I have flashed KaosFroyo v39 and have been experiencing poor signal quality with the device since then. Wherever I go, I never seem to get above 1 bar, even when my Blackberry got full bars at the same location. Is this a known problem and are there any fixes? Would downgrading the radio potentially solve the problem, and if so, where could I get the previous radio version? Thanks for your help!
First: What radio are you running?
Second: KF39? Why not try something newer?
I'm running 2.42.01.04.27
As for KF39, when I googled how to root my Eris, it's the first thing that came up and many people recommended it. What would you recommend for a newer version? I assume newer versions will provide better performance?

I'm running 2.42.02.10.29
KF is probably one of the best Froyo roms out there, but isn't being developed any more. I'd recommend GSB or one of the other Gingerbread roms.
Oh, where can I find that radio and does it work with KF? If I were to upgrade to a Gingerbread ROM, is there any way to back up all of my apps and what not? Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm new to all of this Android stuff

Sprint Hero's have mostly the same hardware as the Eris and the radios are interchangeable.
Just flash the radio from the recovery menu.
Thanks! I'll try this out and see what happens.
Upgraded radio and it stays the same, but data speeds improved. Whatever lol!
Oh, I also flashed GSB and it's working well so thanks!

[Q] Radio for CM9 in Israel

hey guys,my first post here, tho been reading a lot on XDA...
i'm currently running Turl's V9 CM9 with 1.3Faux kernel,my question is should i update my radios aswell?and if i do?which one should i use?
my carrier is Pelephone in Israel.
another question : what are the effects of those radios on the device?
Hello.
As far as I remember, when flashing cm7/cm9 the radio doesn't change and so it should still work.
I used CM7, CM9 and blur based ROMs and had no issues with the radio. (I'm on Rami Levi)
Generally different radios could either improve or worsen reception over the cell network (and WiFi?) also might improve or worsen battery drain.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it .
Ok thanks for the answer, thought it was important, now i see it's not
Sent from my CM9 1.3Ghz Atrix 4G
European 100 radio is OK in Orange Israel.
Not sure for Pelephone.
Effects? Mostly in how your WiFi and GPS work.
I still have the stock N_01.95.00R from orange, never bothered changing it and it works fine with rami levi.
is there a page which lists all the released radio versions?

Which Radio will work with this ROM?

I am about to flash this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312201
I'm wondering which radios will work with this. I'm new to rooting/flashing, fyi. I've been studying immensely.
The reason I'm wanting to flash a new rom is because I'm running cyano 7.1.1 and my bluetooth piece will no longer connect to my phone. Would you folks recommend I flash a new rom? Or only new radios?
The current radios I have are: 1.48.00.0817r AND 0.01.78.0802w_3.
ALSO, if I may ask, what is the difference between RUU and Radios? How are the two linked?
Thank you very much.
Radios really aren't rom specific. more like whatever works best on your phone.. sometimes updating to a radio that works or fixes someone else's problem isn't necessarily going to fix someone else's . If that makes sense.. I honestly haven't changed radios since I first rooted in 2011..
Really what works great for one person might not work great for you. Most you can do is just try different radios over s few days and come up with your own conclusions of what worked better on your phone.
reestipt reactions.
RUU = rom upgrade utility. Basically usually the stock roms from HTC.
The radio usually affects signal quality and speed.

Best Radio

I don't spend a lot of time in the AT&T thread. Mostly just the general M8 area.
Lately I've noticed what I thought was some worse cellular radio reception.
My baseband is 1.21.2533xxxxxxxx
Had anyone had better success with a different radio. All of my ROMs are Lollipop
I would reccommend only using at&t or dev edition radios, but usually the newest ones available is what everyone uses, I personally am using the newest dev radio right now with no problems with reception

Based on what? dBm, battery life, download speed?
There is no "best radio" for everyone. It depends on lot on the reception in your exact location. But I agree with the above, most folks have better luck using AT&T or US Dev Ed radios on AT&T's network.

Thanks - the worse radio reception is based on nothing but general usage poor reception (which is what I posted in my original question, ie, no mention of battery life, download speed, etc). I have just noticed that after firmware and radio upgrade it just seems like I am having cellular call issues with worse call reception than before. No objective data to present ...
@ZeRo2o9 could you be so kind as to post your current baseband so I can compare
Thanks
I am currently using the 1540.8 firmware package from the thread in the AT&T dev forum, from wonders never cease, it's from the lollipop dev ed firmware with red text removed already I would say for you just to try that, but I also run the Rom that is edited for AT&T, best thing to do is try it and see what works best for your area

I'm on the same radio, and the number is: 1.24.21331147A1.09G_20.68.4196.01_F
I need to take a look at what's in the radio thread. Since the OTA to 4.4.4, my radio has sucked to the highest order. Drops, hangups, complete lost of signal. It's been horrible. Is it possible the changes for VoLTE could be causing this?

Did you try a factory reset (backup any important personal data first)? If not, all bets are off when you OTA. Simply too many variables with pre-existing settings and apps that can conflict with the OTA and cause random and major bugs.

Yeah. Did all that. I actually went to a clean version of stock 4.4.3 before upgrading.
Does anyone know the radio for 4.4.3?
