[q] how hot ???? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hi everyone. I have a galaxy ace, rooted, stock kernal so no overclocking here and my battery is 40 c most of the time and when its on charge ive seen it touch 45.
Is this normal or should I worry ?
I have a gel case so i'm wondering is this harbouring the heat?

Its probably the case. I usually hit 45 when charging and using the phone (almost always with games). Most of time is 30-35, sometimes gets to 40 when using browser and playing games.
The weather also plays its role, if you live in a warm place loose the case.

My battery gets really hot when it's charging especially when I am using the phone while it's charging
It gets so hot that I sometimes put the phone in the freezer
Lol
Be kind everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

I live in the Caribbean...just north of the equator and ambient temps here get up to 33c and yet I have never seen my temp go beyond 40c (that is with a 864mhz OC) it's never bothered me or hindered the phone performance or stability as of now...so I guess if you're hitting 40-45c i would guess you are ok.

Oh thats good to no

I love in the uk by the way and I dont really want to lose the case as i want to protect my phone, can you suggest a case that maybe dissapates heat alot quicker ? Also what do you guys think about using my phone whilst its on charge?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium

You're OK (the UK doesn't count as a warm place), leave the case on, just don't let it go over 50.
Heating is normal on smartphones. My brother has an iPhone, that thing will melt through your hands when it gets hot.
Ps: keep the love going in the uk

Singapore can get real warm sometimes , it makes my Ace go to 52 degrees :/

Okay it should be fine then. What about charging and using the phone at the same time?

Again same temperature rise.... Screen Becomes hot and battery drains much...

Once my Ace got too hot. It touched 55 degrees when it was charging and stayed till there even when I removed the charger. A reboot fixed the problem. I wonder why it happened as I do not have OC kernel.
But it is normal for batteries to get hot during charging due to a chemical reaction inside the battery!

dude i got 60degree n was like

mine always using it as Wifi Hotspot for my PC. temperature can get 45 degree celcius then i put a PC fan behind to cool it down and my maximum temperature now only 40 Degree celcius,

sorry for my bad english,

Verify the services in execution, any app can use more memory and process, but the case influences more for the high temperature.
Disable live wallpapers and widgets, that's can reduce the consuption of energy.

While charging 55°C. While using 40°C.

Charging issues with hot battery

With this hot weather, my battery temp got to 53C. Even plugged in and saying charging, the battery still drained to 0. When home, the battery down to 34 it resumed charging. Any insight into this?

I live in a fairly cool place and mine gets up to 45 when charging. I suggest take all cases off and charge the phone near a fan or AC. If you cant leave it on a cool metal ssurface screen down and it should help also avoid using the phone while charging as it gets even hotter, maybe charge it overnight. its not your phones problem its just u live in a hot place.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Sounds like you have a process running in the background that is using up a lot of CPU cycles, causing the battery to drain at the same rate as it is charging. Then after doing this long enough, the battery gets hot and the overtemperature protection kicks in. I recommend checking which process is chewing up CPU cycles. You can use OS monitor to check in real time when it happens again.
I never had the.problem with my htc desire in similar heat. This has been the hottest day in 20 years so I'll see what happens tomorrow. Thanks all for your input.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I don't think the issue is caused by environment temperature. It is more of a charge/discharge issue where heat is generated from the inside of the phone from being overworked.
It can usually be solved by restarting the phone. Those running process would generally get killed. Then, start to charge your phone as usual.
Kinda rabdom but my batter just went to 67 C!!! It didnt let me charge!

Hi. I searched the forum for this problem. Experienced exactly the same thing. Just got an GSII three days ago. Experienced this a problem few minutes ago. Started charging my phone when I got home. It was at 36% at 46deg c. Then I talked to my friend on the phone. Checked back 30 mins later and it was at 33% at 53 deg c. It was the hottest the phone was ever. I panicked and unplugged it and shut the phone down. Turned it on 5 mins later and I just plugged it now.
Is my unit faulty?

BMS (Battery Management System) will not allow you to damage the battery by stopping you from recharging the battery at around 51 degree Celsius.
Are you using a ROM that uses Ninphetamine kernel?

I had this problem with one of ours (I bought 2 on the same day). Everyone told me it was apps etc., but they were identically configured and only one had the problem. After the 3rd time in 4 days when it did it (twice on charge and once when it wasn't on charge) I returned the phone, Samsung tested it and gave me a new one which is just fine. I believe it is a known but not well advertised fault - I've seen a few people with the problem posting on forums. In every case Samsung has given them a new phone and this has fixed the problem.
The phone runs red hot (too hot to hold for more than a few seconds) and sucks the life out of the battery even if it is charging - can drop from 75-80% to 15% in a few minutes.

How much screen on time did you have? how long has it been since you flashed your current set up?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
sorry forgot that shot....i rooted and flashed on either Sunday or Monday this week.....now i do use bluetooth for work so i'm thinking that kills the battery big time....
That is kind of good battery life considering you got almost four hours of screen on time. If your really worried then you should get one of the 3500 mah batteries. I have this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21589969. This battery gets me through at least a day and a half of heavy usage, and it works great for the price.
yeah i wasn't sure...i always keep reading about people getting 1.5-2 days on a battery...it's a new toy so hopefully when the excitement wears off that screen won't be on so much
That's exactly what will happen. You have new phone syndrome. I did too, when I first got my Galaxy S2. Except that I, unlike you, was running stock unrooted, and my battery life was more like 8 hours. I'm now running stock rooted with Entropy's kernel, plus I don't use my phone as much, and I get between 15 and 20 hours.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Yeah...with almost 4 hours screen on, and mostly on cell data (assumption based on your 2.x hours of wifi on) that isn't too horrible. Your total awake time is about an hour more than screen on, so assuming you had phone calls, music playing, or some other screen off background task to account for some of that, you're doing pretty good...

LOL so I'm guessing the best way to really conserve battery is to keep the screen off. Just outta curiousity (which I will test tonight after full charge) what is an acceptable drop rate when phone is fully asleep for say 8 hours or so. Like what 1-2% an hour?

I think the best I have seen reported is 0.5% per hour. Mine on wifi has been as good as about 0.8% per hour, but usually a little over 1%.

2%/hour idle drain I consider bad - that's why I haven't released a kernel since 1/2/2012 - I have a power management regression that pushes drain to a bit over 2%/hour when connected to wifi.
I strive for 0.5%/hour and get very close to that frequently when in a good signal area. In a weak signal area (like at my desk at work), it's around 1%/hour.
4.5%/hour or so is the idle drain you'll get if the phone is unable to enter deep sleep.

Is your Facebook app running in the background?
My phone has been doing that too; pretty sure it is the Facebook app. Have you tried Fast Facebook? I'm running CM9
Let's take a stroll. Through the useful information garden. And over the obvious bridge. Look! Its a butterfly! Let's name it What kernel u running? So beautiful. It'd also be helpful to know if yer overclocking, messing with voltage settings, if u were charging the phone, and....anything else that could help someone actually solve the problem.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Dip the phone into the bucket full of cold water and see if it actually drops a few degrees.
Rule one of messing with electronics is to keep track of what you did so if something like an overheat or reboot issue suddenly arises, you know what the probable culprits are. without knowing what you were running before the heat issue and now, the only real advise is to compare your setups and see what is different.
I'm not overclocking. I haven't touched the voltages and I'm running the latest shostock with the kernel it comes with. I'm posting this because all I'm doing is browsing the web or just sending a text and my phone is literally way too hot to even hold
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372473
(As a note, the temps quoted in the above link are conservatively low. But better safe than sorry in ruining your phone)
Your phone will likely be fine. Most of the components that get hot in electronic devices (cpu, gpu, ect) can handle well over 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Obviously it is still a very bad idea to let any electronics get overly hot -and hard to hang onto because of heat is overly hot.
The first thing to be affected by heat will be the battery life. Batteries "can" (not guaranteed) be irreparably damaged by +160 fahrenheit.
Could lowering voltages cause a phone to run even hotter? I would think it's the other way around...
My phone gets very hot from time to time. Only when it's on the charger though.
"Seasons don't fear the reaper, Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain"
I noticed the same problem when on the lastest version shostock a week ago. It would only happen when the phone would lock-up. I can't remember exactly what programs I had running. I believe I was just sending or reading a text at the time. And I don't use the FB app that much. Maybe once a week. Happened 3 times during one day and it would good from nothing to hot in a matter of seconds. Almost too hot to touch. Took the battery out one time and place it under a fan to cool it down. Kind of scared me so I was checking the phone all day long to make sure it was not doing it again.
I honestly just thought it was a bad rom install so I downgraded back to GB after those events. Hasn't happened since. I had no OC or UV going on just stock settings.
I hope there is software and hardware fail-safes in place if the temp gets too high.
I noticed the XDA app after I closed it was still pulling 10-15 cpu power after I killed it my temp went down quick. See if that might be doing it....
Heat
Ok.... The more you have going on...the hotter the phone will be. The cpu's under loads will definatly create temps. So kill apps. Check how your cpu package handle and read up on cup settings. In on smartaz 2 with ioa .

SetCPU is a great idea to get. You can setup a profile so that when it gets over a certain temp a notification goes off and can lower the processor speed. Mine is set to go down too 500mhz if it gets to warm.

I spent a lot of my time outside this weekend so I would say my phone usage was "lite" but I got over 36 hours and still had 30% left. Today I've been on it all day and im at 55% and I've been off the charger for 10 hours. The battery is a LOT better than my OG Evo but I'm SERIOUSLY impressed with this phones ability to "sleep"
I'm reading 59% after 7 hours and my first day of usage. My EVO 4G would have kicked the bucket hours ago. Though I haven't ran any hogging apps today, I have had my phone on a lot.

Play a game for 5 minutes -> phone slows down to a crawl.

Wha the **** is up with that? I'm actually raging right now.
I play any game for 5 minutes or so, and when I quit it the phone has it's performance basically halved. It goes like this: Run Quadrant Standard -> get 3300 points -> play 3D game for 5 minutes -> game slows down noticeably -> close game ->run quadrant again -> get a score of 1600.
What's up with this crap? It's so insanely aggravating. I restored my phone from PCC and it still happens. The only way to get it running decently again after it starts crawling is to reboot it.
Seriously, I've had it with this piece of crap of a phone. I think this **** crossed the line, I'm selling it.

But anyway, I think it's related to overheating because I noticed that if I let it sit for a while after running a game performance goes up again.
Anyway, I don't give a crap about what's causing it. A phone should NOT overheat from normal use. Ok, it's summer and it's hot, but seriously, I've had it with this phone.
I can't deal with this. I'll just sell it and go back to my trusty ol' Xperia Ray on Gingerbread.

All high power phones have problems with overheating and becoming slow. Install a custom kernel and undervolt it, that should help. Also using a custom rom and kernel has reduced my heat problem a lot.
Of course your xperia ray doesn't have issues because it is slow. A dual core in a phone is going to heat up.
I have played shadowgun for 30 minutes without any slowdown.
