[Q] ICS for Galaxy Player 5 ? - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hello everybody,
I am new to this forum (props to all for their contributions). I just wanted to know whether there is a chance that the Galaxy Players (I have a GP5) will have an official update to ICS ? I've looked everywhere (Samsung HP, google), I can't find any information about it.
Does anyone here knows anything ?
(Sorry, in case that I'm not in the right forum group)

there is an ICS release in the development section, just look at the CM9 or AOKP threads, those roms are both ICS based.

Very unlikely that there will be an official ICS upgrade. Samsung is having a hard enough time updating their flagship devices like the Galaxy Note, and they've already said the original Galaxy S will not be getting ICS. The Galaxy Player 5.0 is essentially a 5 inch Galaxy S (same cpu/ram) so i doubt it will ever come.

Yeah man... as the other users have said, no chance of original ICS for our player. I imagine even the new Galaxy Player plus won't receive it. I've been using android for a long time on many devices and android atualizations are a pain. Fortunately, we have XDA. =p

There is nothing official from Samsung - though they have said that there is no room in ROM for ICS and Touch Wiz and Samsung seems to be intent on not losing Touch Wiz. Most would have no problem losing Touch Wiz and Samsung is making a wrong decision not to support these relatively new units with updates.
At this point if you want ICS you will have to rely upon a ROM from a site like this. The last thread that I saw here about the ICS ROM for the 5.0 was that it was still in development - there is a beta that is being troubleshooted as there were features that were not working yet.

Anyone???

ok so the galaxy player has been out for a while now...so my question is when and if anyone at all is creating any custom ROMS for the device? i just think its weird that within a few days there's was stuff out for the galaxy nexus. why cant it be the same for the galaxy player?
I guess you have not seen STeVEs rom .
Make sure you have the right version and country device before installing.
May want to look through the forum first.
A quick look through http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1423 and I see a few Roms for the different galaxy players.
You should not compare the development of these to the Galaxy Nexus. The Galaxy Nexus probably has a larger user group so it probably has more developers working on it. This may be do to the fact that it is a phone so it appeals to more people and the fact that the galaxy nexus was advertised more than the galaxy player so they were able to get more people to buy them.
If you don't think there enough ROMs for the Galaxy Player, you can always start developing one yourself, The android source code is available to you.
if your like me and want a GOOD, reliable rom, then wait. because steves rom is still in its early steps. and has caused many problems for many people. including me.
so just wait for a cyanogenmod or something.
Im trying out the newly released version of Eryigit rom of eng_matt for the internation SGP. touchwiz 4.5 looks great and lots of nice tweaks
I have gone through the forums and checked if not I would not be posting this question. I seen Steve's rom and its just not for me. I my self have the SGP5 some of the stuff on there its for SGP4 or international version, I thought by now there would be tons of rom being that the player has been out for a while.
edit: and while there are some stuff out there for SGP5 its not full roms, that's what I think.

[Q] Best ICS ROM - Closest to stock with little to no mods as possible

I am trading my Galaxy Nexus today, for an S2 (international version) plus $200 cash. I think its worth it! Main reason is because I miss micro sd support and I used to have the S2.
The only thing is, I am taken back and am lost in the S2 forum. No clue whats best anymore so i need help!
I want an ICS ROM that is closest to stock as possible with fewest possible mods and tweaks for the S2?
Also, I heard something about official ICS coming this week?
Thanks everyone.
We don't allow "what's the best ROM" threads in this forum because we get several of these threads every single day.
Read and search the forums, the information is there. Several users have done extensive write-ups on the state of the various ICS leaks.

[Q] Android Jelly Bean for Galaxy S II

Hi there
I'm in the process of needing to upgrade to a new phone and have narrowed my choices down to the Galaxy S II or the Galaxy Nexus as they are the best phones in this price bracket. The main problem I'm currently having choosing between the two is the hardware advantages of the S II vs the software advantages of the GN.
The main thing holding me back from purchasing the S II is that I'm not sure if it will get the jelly bean update promptly seeing as it took 6 months for the SII to get ICS.
However this disadvantage would be nullified if there would be custom roms that would support the S II for jelly bean shortly after it is released on the GN without having to wait for the official support to arrive for the SII. Would these custom roms be released just as promptly as the jelly bean custom roms for the GN? Also how stable would those SII roms be compared to the ones for the GN?
I'm also curious as to how custom roms based on AOSP work in this way. Wouldn't developers just be able to just take the source code from google and apply it to either the GN or SII and have the custom rom released in the same amount of time for either phone or is it simply faster to develop a rom on the GN?
Basically as I see myself using a custom rom on either device if the SII would have a custom rom based on jelly bean released in pretty much the same time as one for the GN that is just as stable, I see no reason why the SII isn't a better choice over the Nexus in all areas and am looking to confirm if this is true. Also if I am to use a custom rom this would mean that I wouldn't get the prompt OTA updates from google either which defeats a lot of the point of the GN. Looking to confirm this point also.
The reason why JB support, and thus the attractiveness of the GN, is such a concern for me is that I believe a lot of the value in the phone you pay for is in how up to date it stays. Where hardware on a phone remains constant, if a phone can keep up to date with its software it will never age in this respect and keep getting better for the money you pay.
Thanks for your help guys!

Sorry! Would a mod be able to remove this please or shall I go ahead and create a new post there? (Kinda a newb to all of this)
Also, my question is more along the lines of how roms actually work. Is it that e.g. google releases a generic ICS source code that works for all devices and the OEMs take that code and add their own skins to it where devs here can take that code too make a custom rom? In that case how come it still took months before the first ICS custom roms were available on the SII? Or is it that the custom roms have to be based off a device specific ICS that google/OEM releases to the devices which come months later after they are released on the nexus which would explain why it takes much longer for devices other than nexus phones to receive the updates?

[Q] Samsung phone call made me want ICS now (Kang ROM) and PLEASE HELP!!!

I was on the phone with Samsung Tech Support, and they were upset to realize I was the crazy irate mad customer who spent the day finding EVERY single ICS update article and new Tab 2 articles and commenting that Samsung could Go to hell! I purchased the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 (wifi) p7510 with a Samsung salesperson on the phone saying ICS was a week a way... Then marketing and advertising and launch of Tab 2, and ICS on hold for customers like me made me wanna find that saleperson and hit him in the head with a giant slab of meat! JERKIES!
ANYHOW! I rooted mine. NOW - I want nothing more than to install ICS (ROM) preview (KANG)? RIGHT THIS VERY MOMENT to be justified!
QUESTION: can someone please direct me to the most RECENT - stable ICS preview link (cynmod9) install??? and final question: Is the Camera working yet???
PRETTY FRIGGIN PLEASE?!!!!
or recommend what to do for the best ROM or ICS install??
~~##RAPTORZE##~~
there are nightly builds in the Development area of this forum that are pretty good.
NONE have the camera working and that wont come anytime soon as drivers need to be leaked/released to make it work.
i used the KANG roms for a while but flashed back to stock recently because the battery performance was not good.
that being said its really easy to back up and flash between stock root and CM9 KANG builds
Questions go in the Q&A section

Its only a tablet.
Camera will be working after official update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1053 and read!!!!
There's several ROMs out right now. AOKP and CM9.
If you want the feel of ICS, those are great to flash and experiment!
On the other hand, if you're concern of the camera issue, you may flash Task14 which will enhance the tablet with a slight feel of ICS, yet keeping the camera, although it's still on it's 3.2 platform.
how about searching the forum and finding it yourself? Its not that hard to click the development thread and look in there!!?

LOL
i mean common really , im not trying to be an asshole here but rather than posting this it would have been faster for him to just look around this fourm and all his questions would have been answered. thats why noobs keep getting flamed from everyone on here. they come in and ask either questions that have been asked over and over that have already been answered (solution: xda search or search google for something like this "galaxy tab wont boot XDA") or something that can easily be obtained by simply LOOKING in the dev/q&a areas. The dev's put so much time in to bring us this awesome stuff and when someone is simply too lazy to just search something out or do their own research they get offended and so do the other members who have been ACTIVELY posting/following in their threads. you remember that video you had to watch b4 you could become a member here??? well watch it again its very informative

Granted its annoying when people fail to use search. But you know what is even MORE annoying? When people DO use search, and end up on a thread like this, where people just ***** at the OP for not using search themselves.
I wish everyone would stop and think about the fact that their replies aren't just for the OP, but are also for everyone else who SEARCHES and lands on a thread in the future.
