None, I repeat, NONE of the apps of Samsung apps install. - Motorola Droid RAZR

I am beyond the point to understand if this is the right forum or not cause I am just plain angry.
NOne of the apps of the TouchWiz UI install on my RaZr, let alone work.
They just don't work.
Any help is really appreciated.

Why the hell are you posting in this section? Sorry to be blunt but grrrrr
To answer your question, the applications may not work because they need Samsung framework like HTC sense items. However do not quote me on this as I view TouchWiz as junk and have never personally tried to use anything from samsuck on the Razr

They won't install and aren't supposed to install. Samsung apps use TouchWiz framework, HTC apps use Sense framework, Moto apps use Motoblur framework.
Vendor specific apps can only be run on vendor roms that support the framework.
You can not install them on other roms.

Got it. Mods can happily kill this thread.

cyanogen mod missing apps?

when i flashed cyanogen mod 7 last night the android market and other google related apps were not in my app drawer. If i download Latest gapps on the ROMs listing page will it fix this issue? its really annoying me i don't understand what the point of that is... anyways, if that will fix the problem, do i flash that entire zip as it were a rom, or do i explore it on my PC and copy over the apks to my SD card. please help

CM7 is straight Android with some reasonable improvements and modifications. No apps come with it but the bare essentials. Some people very much prefer it sans gapps, as the Google apps pack is know, because once it's in there it's like an octopus. To answer your question, yes, just download the gapps.zip and flash it as you would a ROM.
i was pretty sure that the android market would be considered a bare necessity for your phone.... i guess that would just be stupid to include something that's really important and makes sense.. i dont understand why all roms don't come with the same apps, if you can flash a rom im pretty sure you can figure out how to go into file manager and delete some apps, it doesn't come with titanium backup either which annoyed me..

The cm roms are not allowed to include gapps. Early on the original dev received a c&d order to stop putting them in, so now you flash them separate. It's not that hard, nor does it take long. Download rom, download gapps, download kernel if you want, flash all in recovery. Done.

No, it's not in any conceivable way a necessity for Android. There's many ways to install apps and different markets to use as well. MOST devs don't make habit of making as many personal choices for the user as humanly possible. Some people don't use Ti backup. A HUGE part of a custom ROM is not having to deal with the bloatware. Some consider all that crap you're talking about useless bloatware and CM7 is aimed squarely at the folks who'd consider Google apps unwanted bloatware. Why are you even trying it if you don't like it???
not wanting an app market to me is just plain stupid... whats the point of going that out of the way to put apps on your phone when you can download them in seconds with the market - the right way.. i tried it because i wanted to check it out but i just dont think it's for me and i'll probably just use a th3ory rom

Yes. Please do. You're DEFINITELY NOT a CM7 kinda guy. And can ya do me a favor? Stop calling things you don't agree with stupid and presumptuously proclaiming what the "right way" is for something to be done? I can fully understand why someone might not want Market on their device. I've got plenty of apps I install from other sources. It's not like it's a big deal. You just install them, and it's faster than Market most of the time.

He's not mad, he's right. lol, you look like a real lazy guy. If you love market so much and don't want to flash gapps after cm7, you definitely don't belong to custom roms section as such. I'd recommend that you stop Modding your android and use stock rom that came with your phone.
Again, law prohibits use of weed and inclusion of gapps in cm7 by default. You got to learn to deal with things even if you don't like them.

I don't use the market much anymore, everything I use I have backed up in Titanium Backup. One really nice thing about not having the market installed is I can use my apps without requiring a update first, this really annoys me especially when the update sucks and I want to re-install the previous version through Titanium Backup but can't use the previous version because there's an update. I add the apk's I want into the zip before I flash it, that take 2 seconds and its tailored to my liking, not the Dev/other users.

Just not keen on the attitude. I'm not a huge fan of AOSP myself. It's just too spartan for me and I've never felt like building up a ROM to do what I've come to enjoy from Sense. My girlfriend thinks it's the best thing ever. I appreciate what it is, why she and others likes it, and why they develop it the way they do. I'm VERY glad it's out there because, as a project, Cyanogen contributes immensely to the Android community. Just doesn't seem like you respect CM for what it is.
Just flash the google apps zip in recovery and you'll get the market back she whatever else you want that google makes.
umm...wow @ this whole thread
Market still missing after flashed gapps
My market still missing even after I flashed gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip..how to solve this guys?
It's because of the lawyers
See here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version/Google_Apps
Technically no ROM can ship with Google's app bundle out of the box; you have to flash separately. CyanogenMod, being a much bigger organization than most ROM producers, have to be more by-the-book.

Non google roms?

Are there any roms for this phone that are just basic without all of the google crap and other bloat?

Android - Google = nothing.
Sooo.....
But to answer your question, no. Android is kinda based fully around linux and google services. Well I guess you could install an aosp rom and use titanium to remove all the googls aspects of the phone but at that point it'd be kinda useless....
You can remove anything you don't want...but, removing *ALL* Google applications would remove most functionality from your smartphone. You would be left with a phone that is able to make/receive calls (i.e. a phone), text, browse the web, and run any apps that you have installed prior to removal of app store (unless you're sideloading)
It'd basically be a regular phone with a touchscreen and wifi. If that is indeed what you want, take a ROM that is already without Sense (check the dev section for senseless ROMs) before or after you flash the rom, remove Google apps from /system/apps/
Removable apps (AT YOUR OWN RISK) are in various threads. Here is a link to one from S3 board: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634624
And from SG2 board: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572191
Right now CM10 has a separate zip for gapps to be installed...so you could do that and not complete the flashing of gapps.
*I'm not responsible if you decide to go on a delete spree and somehow make your phone unusable.*

CyanogenMod doesn't remove Google stuff, it removes HTC or Samsung stuff. Maybe you're not sure what Google is vs. what bloat the hardware manufacturers put on phones?
The entire advantage of having an Android phone comes about through Google's apps and the slick way they are integrated into the OS. As others have stated, removing all the Google stuff renders your smartphone almost useless (beyond the bare minimum).
Anyway, just go to the CM9 thread and download CM10 from IRC.

I am pretty sure there's a way to just not get it to install the google apps. gdrocks mentioned it in this thread. Something to do with getting rid of the zip file which contains them.
Making calls, sending messages and using the internet is all I need.

I don't consider google products an advantage. As somebody who doesn't use google products, not even their search. It's not something I really want. Unfortunatly the market doesn't really offer much else. Apple or android. Android should be a better option considering I should be able to use something that doesn't compromise my privacy from the start.
Thank you for the recommendations.

Simply put I'd like a device that has many of the same hardware features of the evo 4g lte while not having to worry about my privacy. I see android as an open source OS which if there was any ridiculous measure being taken by google or other companies it would be found quickly. Though you can't say the same for other apps which aren't open source. These may be from anybody, not specifically google.
I don't use google's products so their apps and integration don't appeal to me.
Privacy is an illusion. You shouldnt be putting confidential things on a smartphone.
What you are trying to accomplish has nothing to do with a ROM
. Look at an apps permissions. If you dont agree with them, dont install it
Android is pretty much Google.. if you want to remove everything Google.. buy a phone without Android..

It's not installable apps I am worried about. Also you don't neccesarily need to even put anything on a phone for it to be a privacy risk. You say it's an illusion but that's a false dichotomy. There certainly are ways where privacy does not need to be an illusion.

I don't really understand what you are trying to make. Possibly you don't understand. I am saying android being open source lends itself to privacy. Something like OSX could be doing all sorts of spying under the covers even when disabled and nobody could even really know. Though if the OHA tried to do it with android it would would be easy to tell. The way around this ofcourse is to put those features in proprietary apps which come default.
Sorry, I misunderstood your point. I see what you meant now.

Actually being open source makes it easier for devs on xda to discover privacy issues not being fully disclosed. Look what treve discovered about HTC. That was huge and it was just some amateur dev who shook up every company who used keystroke data logging.
And google isn't bloat. That's just a bizarre statement. Your phone runs google software. Period. You really should get a different phone.
Non google roms? I don't mean to be a douche but you really should change the title of this thread if you want to be taken seriously. Nothing wrong with having privacy concerns but that statement makes you look completely clueless

Help Speed Up Development for AT&T Users!

So I want to speed up the process since I do get pretty busy in school. Let's create a list of safe to remove apps/files so I can have builds uploaded quicker and lighter! If I test everyone by myself, it'll take a while to do. So you guys tell me, what can be safely removed? Let's try to remove all the AT&T junk!
Remember, 99% of the stuff removed can be downloaded through the Market. You could also create a separate zip to allow people to install the apps that were removed. Just a thought...

Anything with AT&T on it can and should be removed. Just keep Beats audio in there, all I can tell you
Also, do we have an ETA on AT&T HOX+ CM10? Are there other AOSP-based ROMs in development for the One X+, particularly the AT&T version?
It would probably be easier to grab one of the international hox+ Roms that's been debloated and take a look to see what's missing to determine what can come out or at least use it as a base to know what can be removed....not a base to rom build though just to be clear

Can we look at de-bloated At&t HOX ROMs to get an idea of what's safe to remove? Or at the very least, like someone else mentioned, we should compile a zip to have a safety net of sorts.
Also, I'm no expert but I'm more than willing to help test things and speed up our dev process. I should be getting my HOX+ middle of next week.

I've personally removed: stocks, fm radio, flickr, htc mail, htc mail widget, jetcet print, teeter, htc messenger, watch, play music, play books, polaris office, picasa and locations (ATT or HTC's pay GPS, sucks compared to google to me) from this phone. you can add those to your list of safely removable apps.
Another option for app removal..After all ATT stuff is removed.. some of the ATT HOX XL Rom devs (most rom devs actually) use an aroma script or installer before install which asks the user which apps they want to keep or remove. I never use stocks, fm radio, flickr, htc mail, htc messenger, etc, etc. Those are the first things i would personaly uninstall with titanium backup if there wasnt an aroma script. But there are plenty of people who use those apps everyday and couldnt live without them. With the aroma way you can make everyone happy. Which is hard to do in this business.. Everybody wants something different. Scotts Clean Rom for ATT hox has nice aroma features, might want to use parts of it as a template. Also i'm sure you've made some Rom dev friends over the years.. Hopefully some Sense ones Now would be a great time to hit em up for tips and tricks! They could tell you exactly which HTC apps can , should, and shouldnt be removed. Good luck with the Rom building... You seem very excited about it, thats good for us.
And here is a goody everyone on ATT will like. This is a must have app for me.ATT visual voicemail. Market says its not compatible and wont let you download it.. but it works great. transfer to sd card or download with phone, install from phone using a file explorer. make sure unknown sources is checked in security settings. I'll stick my sim card back in my HOX on monday and download the latest version of ATT VVM, this one says it needs updating, but wont let you. Still works great, no problems at all.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10203258/com.att.mobile.android.vvm-1.apk
I just got my ATT HOX+ and I'm willing to help in whatever way I can. I personally removed all ATT stuff manually (in /system/app) and used Titanium Backup to get rid of BN Nook app and a few others. I'm admittedly not used to this bloatware as I've had a GNex for quite a while now. However, I wanted LTE speeds and had an upgrade available so here I am.
Currently, my phone is dev unlocked running twrp recovery (in the original dev section here on this forum) and I'm rooted (obviously, lol).
On another note, do you guys think we'll get our own forum? It seems like the ATT HOX+ is different enough to warrant it, at least to me.

I actually like the HTC mail but not so much the htc messenger. Maybe he can make an "ultra lite" Rom version in due time which is basically as naked as the stock Rom can get and allow people to install whatever they like and ALSO have a zip download of all the HTC stuff taken out for people like me that want say something like fm radio, HTC mail, etc type stuff to install if the user wanted to . I've seen many roms built this way and users basically love em!
Since you don't use the htc text messenger, what sms/mms app to u use? I configured and use go sms now and love it! Does everything the htc messenger can't and fully customizable! Love the quick sms pop up too from standby, was missing simple features like this from my iPhone. Not anymore

I use handcent messenger. i like it a lot better than stock messenger. The aroma installer would do away with the zip download. You choose what apps you want and dont want at the beginning of the install. No need for more than 1 version. No need for an ultra lite version when you can choose your own apps. Its almost like your own little rom kitchen. to take stuff out or add stuff. Add battery percent or a different style battery. Add blue icons or red. Use Android boot animation or ATT. Remove sense and add a different launcher. Many Many different things can be done with aroma. I'm not sure how hard or how easy it is to use in development, but it seems to be the way everyone is going. I think its great.
So I decided the first ROM will be senseless (Not AOSP. It'll have Sense stuff removed) and make it as slim as I possibly can. Want it to be a super light ROM so it can be customized as needed. Should I put Apex or Nova launcher?

Reason I said a Senseless ROM will be first is because I'm backing up all the files I removed. After I upload the Senseless, I just have to drop in the Sense files and bam, a Sense ROM is made! lol
EDIT: Also, isn't 2 ROMs better than 1? It will be something quick to slap up and if I modify one file from one ROM, I can just do the same mod to the other. It'll be easier to work with both side-by-side. Don't worry man. I got this!
Looking forward to flashing my first rom on this device. Light is fine, and whichever launcher you find lighter on the battery life.

No 2 is not better than 1 IMO. Aroma with a sensless option is the way to go. 1 rom to maintain.
Am also aware that this isnt going to be instant, you are learning to build roms. Aroma may be an advanced rom dev option, i dont know. I do know though that no one said they were looking forward to a senseless sense based rom in the donation thread. Almost everyone said they wanted a sense rom. :fingers-crossed: But ultimately it is your decision. Do what you gotta do. :highfive:

Try using an app freezer first then if there's no negative impact un install frozen app. Of course do a back up of each app incase there's a problem later. That way you don't have to reflash rom.
Titanium backup
System tuner
This is the most recent list for Sense I could locate for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197265
If you're flashing ROM's with some regularity, I do. And I don't feel like removing apps from the zip. Here is an app that makes it simple to do after the fact: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32849928
You could also set up ROM Cleaner to take care of it for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832162
Hope that helps
really just looking to get rid of the garbage, like news and weather i don't believe sense uses them besides the widget which i delete anyway.

Wow. ROM Cleaner is the shiz. I made my own NO-Sense_user.txt file and was able to trim off almost 100 apps(starting apps count from MeanBean).
care to post that list?

Just get the NO-Sense_user.txt from here and use Notepad++ to customize it just remove the # from anything you want to remove
I could if you'd like but it would be better to edit one for yourself as I probably have A LOT of things deleted that you might want to keep and might have kept a lot of what you want deleted. It's really simple to edit as you are only putting in or taking out a # sign.

[APPS][PORTED]Latest app for custom roms

Hey guys, i know this is demanding but i really miss the stock apps from OOS. There are few available but are pretty much outdated by now. Apps i wanted where phone dialer framework. Like literally the whole dialer. As well as sms app and the launcher which as is previously available to work with quick switch will do. Only these 3 apps i would like to see the most. If anyone would help me to get the port is much appreciated
Thanks in advance.
Note: twrp fashable or magisk module will also do work.
For most of the apps you can download them on https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/oneplus-ltd/
Frameworks obviously a bit more tricky.

You are right, we do get apps from various links. Bur as you know they don't work with custom roms. Thats why ports are needed. Thanks for the reply though
