If "No", please let us know why you chose to hold off, and if/when you plan to upgrade to the leak/ and or OTA.
I will start.
I chose not to upgrade yet.
Mainly because, if anyone reading this was around during the Eris, 2.1 leaked fiasco, you will understand my new and improved policy of waiting at least 3 full days on anything leaked.
Anyway, I also am holding out because
1) Joelz (I hope) will be making a patch for us folk who are waiting.
2) I have been getting better batt life on GB
3) hasn't been 3 days yet.. but now that the firmware is out, I may be editing this post in a couple days.
Reminds me of the 3 day rule for not calling a chick after you get her number. HAH!
I went ahead and updated....we'll see how this goes.
I just upgraded to CleanROM 3.7, so I'm going to wait for the official release of ICS before I flash a next ROM.

I voted No... ICS is not that big of a deal for me. My phone is #1 a business tool and having it work is more important that how it looks. That being said, I am quite content right now with GB, how the device looks and works. Battery life is acceptable and I can use all of the tools I need to use. It is one very AWESOME phone as it is right now.
This might change if I see a lot of users using it without a lot of issues, but I might just wait until the Official OTA arrives.
There are more things to life than ICS....
Never ending... after the masses gets ICS they will want JB and then they will demand KLP.... it never ends.
I did almost bricked in the process as well
But all in all I say its worth it. We atleast have a method to downgrade the hboot if needed

I am holding off until I see there are no issues AND there is a way to get back to stock GB via Ruu in the crazy case I need to return to Verizon.
They may not check much but I'd rather be safe since 4.0 is noticeably different.

You can ruu back with the mainver fix
Unless you haven't unlocked it yet

Nope still on GB. when the ota comes and custom kernels for ICS ill take the plunge. Still hoping for cm9 as well.
I have upgraded but I'm having trouble with the service.
Phone keeps telling me to insert a sim card when I already have one...
Just saw in Scotts ics thread you can't go back to Gingerbread after Ics ruu (he even updated his op).....so I will be holding off....at least until gets proven otherwise
Edit: now Scott is saying you can go back but there's a sd issue...however he said there is a fix....
so looks like I will keep on waiting for everyone else to be the guinea pigs lol

I didn't vote because there's no option for "I'm on the second ICS leak and waiting for more ROMs to be based off of the third leak".
I just hope there will be a Rom that doesn't require the ics ruu as a prerequisite.
I am sure those of us with our tin foil hats would really appreciate it.
Also I can only imagine the forums whenever the official release comes and by chance it doesn't play nice with the leak.
Looks like gb for me, unless there's a Rom that doesn't require this leak. Guess time will tell...hopefully everything works out for everyone but I will just err on the cautious side.

That was the worst.. What was it? something like a few days after the 2.1 leak had been out, root was attained (but only if you hadn't installed the leaked firmware)?
Anyways, I installed the newer firmware despite all this. I have confidence the Dev section here will carry us through any issues that arise
I did last night. Scary but easy. Clean Rom 4.0 seems absolutely flawless this far. Battery is great. Stopped using extended battery its so good lol.

new firmware
I got the AndroidPolice all-stock zip of the new VZN ICS. Experimented all day with it including the TAMPERERED warning, and other stuff. Found out that when 100% bone stock, the new ICS will allow you to freeze/eliminate all the things I don't use, like VZN Navigator, Twitter, Trneds, NFLMobile, Lets Golf,Hot Pursuit, Freindstream, etc. So, I am ReLocked, and stock and happy because a bunch of bloaty things don't start and can't be seen in the app drawer. Bottom Line: the new ICS is gonna be so great, some folks won't have to unlock to get exactly what they want. Warning: if you check it out, getting back to GB isn't impossible, but it's a hassle.

Yessir, no root was for me. lol, after about a week, I ended up calling CS and getting a refurb, they said nothing about the phone being on a leak lol.
i would rather wait a get the official OTA firmware. rather than some leaked ****.
ive got a feeling the 605.5 update was the update we were supposed to get, but maybe vzw decided on holding on to it till they can patch the current s-off exploit.
call me cynical but coming from a droid x and i remember these type of things happening before with moto and vzw...to the point where devs waited for a new update before revealing how to get root or run cm9 using the 2nd init...
perhaps we should have waited for ics to drop first before unveiling s-off...
It was gonna be launched on other phones regardless.
I highly doubt it..we are a minority to the rest of verizon rezound users...so i doubt they would postpone it....but i can be wrong with some of big reds past behaviors
Sent for my vigorous rezound
My worst fear about it is that it is worse than the newest (5/7) leak and has S-OFF patched with hboot 2.26 or something. So people on the official track are screwed.
Hopefully that doesn't happen though.
just saying vzw is not above going all out against the dev community...even the gnex updates are subject to verizons approval even though the carriers were supposed to be cut out of the loop...vzw does not like anything they dont get money from that they could be charging for...extra functionality w/ no money=evil bad murder kill to them
it's more likely that verizon postponed it for a business reason, like waiting for the inc 4g to drop. it's a flagship device and they're going to want it to be the first HTC with ICS.
exactly my point...technically the only thing holding us back is kernel source which wont come out till the official ics is released...lets say, if they did decide to patch s-off first and then release ics we would either have to stick to these leaks or upgrade to the official...upgrading to the official and presumably a new hboot which would then leave us at the mercy of verizon until devs can find another s-off exploit., if they can...i know there will always be workarounds and exploits to be had but dev unlock and s-off gave us the keys to the kingdom but what if vzw changes the locks completely
Even if the OTA patches the S Off exploit, then we just don't take the OTA, and wait for our devs to use the OTA as the base for their ROMs.....that's how we used to do things on the OG EVO. Once you're rooted, you never, ever, took an OTA. I don't even think they could turn the security flag back on with an OTA update if they wanted to, but I'm not sure. I'm sure there's someone far more knowledgeable who can confirm or deny the truth of that.

What would that do for those who don't have s off?
I'm running stock gb, rooted, that's all. I was going to wait until the update then s off.
Are you saying I should s off now? While I have the chance? Im not skilled or comfortable enough with flashing yet, to flash everything seperate like you can with s off. The main reason I would want s off is so that I can go back to complete stock, and locked. Is that enough to do s off?

Yes...absolutely! You don't need to flash separate radios and kernels if you don't want. You should do it now just in case...
if youre not comfortable with s-off then dont do it...as im sure htc will not revoke our ability to unlock the bootloader, and you dont need s-off to gain root...im just wondering for those of us that have s-off if we just made it harder for ourselves by unveiling the s-off method before we had the official ics and source... but as tspderek said, it may have just been a decision to sell a few more of the newer phones

I would get it done now. There's a chance, albeit small, that HTC patches the new HBOOT to block the exploit. Considering the steps we take to get S OFF, I'd doubt it though.
I understand people wanting to wait todo SOFF or being a little scared of the risks but i don't think anyone should be waiting or worried at this.
The SOFF method has been out for a while now, and alot of successful runs, with alot of troubleshoot threads, solutions - why be scared and wait? Id say just do it. Its running great for everyone whos done it and it gives you way more options with your device if you need to switch between firmware at this time. Why restrict yourself ?
Definitely s-off.
no reason not to.
Especially if you are still on the stock GB OTA release. It took me all of 3 minutes... start to finish. I'll even mail you my wire-trick wire if you need it
no. you need a blank sd card, that's all. when i did s-off i popped in my sd card, started the process, got it on the first go, installed the juopunutbear hboot, flashed recovery, and booted right back into my rom.

yes, you must unlock your bootloader... and root your phone (via installing amonRA recovery is easiest)
then you are ready to s-off.
I was stock GB phone, I unlocked/rooted and s-off'd it didn't take long at all.
yes you'll have to re-set up some things on your phone, but that's ok, you'll be fresh! All my important stuff is sync'd with google so I'm pretty rapid at wiping and starting from scratch. The benefits after doing this will far outdo any inconvenience of setting your phone up again. You can run a nandroid backup after you flash amonRA before doing s-off as well if you want, but the unlock procedure does give you a wipe unfortunately :-\ use Titanium Backup for your apps if you want to keep specific data about them, otherwise just re-install after you get setup again.
s-offing with a stock GingerBread phone is easy and fast.
Isnt the S-OFF method more hardware related than software related. That's why they tested it on all the S3 phones? Plus, I dont see VZW worrying about the few hundred of us that actually did S-OFF. We're such a small portion of overall users. I would think they would hold it back over greed rather than hardware exploits. Such as Droid Inc 4G is about to drop with ICS and Sense 4. They'd rather people buy that than this phone.
It's both hardware and software dependent IIRC

This. But I think the exploit is both hardware and software, so theoretically they could patch the software side, if they cared enough to.
For new users, just my advice, worrying about this is pointless, it's kinda like us making threads that say next summer gas will be $7 a gallon (or $6 liter) and you keep yourself awake at night worrying about the "what ifs".
Okay I have a few questions. I have had my Rezound for a couple months now and tired of waiting for the OTA update. So I was wanting to switch to one of the leaks. My phone is not rooted and still all factory with Sense 3.5. My main question is if I decide to use the Leaked version and then later the official comes out will I be able to do a update and go back to being official? Or maybe like a stock rom that will erase your phone and install all back to factory including the root?
Also do you absolutely have to root to install the leak? Please if you have any answers for my questions please let me know. Thank you.
You don't need root at all to use an RUU. I would advise against upgrading. Most of the ICS ROMS support the gb firmware. Just be patient. Only a little longer till ICS!!
Yeah thats what I have heard many times. Its coming in Jan, It's coming in Feb, Its coming in March, Its coming in April, It's coming in May. WAIT LET ME GUESS its coming in JUNE?!?! lol So sick of all the delays with it. Although I suppose waiting another few months wont hurt nothing.
I jumped on the last ICS leak when the May 9th release didn't happen. I have no complaints! I think the update will come to my phone even with this... If it doesn't, someone will leak it!

If you don't know how to get back to stock you shouldn't do it.
You don't need root to upgrade, but you need to unlock, root and s-off to get back to stock gb.
Even if you got somehow off the upgrade path, of you were to s-off then it wouldn't matter.
If you do go from GB to ICS firmware just remember to factory reset the phone after the RUu or you "may" have data issues. Not everybody does, but some do so do it anyway.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
UH after an ruu everything should be set i don't see why you would have to factory reset...
Well...there is probably a couple hundred of us who had this issue right when s-off came out. It only happens after s-off. Least that I have seen. 4G will Drop connection like mad if you don't factory reset immediately after the ruu completes and rom boots.
I also mean the factory reset in hboot, not in the rom.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
I say do some reading, familarize yourself with the process, then go ahead and s-off and get ICS. Never know if getting the official ICS update will screw you or not in terms of keeping locked down, and the current ICS builds are pretty well done. But only do what you are comfortable doing.

As per the title - I called HTC yesterday and spoke with one of the CS reps. I asked and after a brief wait, the representative stated that the device should be updated to ICS in June or July. With the HTC Amaze 4G rolled out (not VZW)--at least they have one less phone in front of ours.
I'm in the same predicament. I am very interested in the OTA but the speculation on has only led to more disappointment. In the end, for me at least, I'm pleased with my bone stock Rezound. Zero issues. I am looking forward to making it even better like many of the current owners have done.
I've heard this came out a couple months ago, but my phone as yet to update on its own. When I try and check for an update, it says there are no updates to be found. Here is the link to the global update: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/ Lucky for you, since you haven't unlocked you bootloader or done anything otherwise, you can flash this in your bootloader and get the update with no problem.
Two notes on flashing that...first it's unofficial, so flashing it might risk your ability to get OTA's in the future. Second, it will wipe your data, apps, and internal storage. However, with those two caveats, it will work just fine.
I appreciate the input guys. However, both of you state I need to "flash" to do this - which looks to me (as stated above) it's an unofficial method of getting this update. I'm curious, is there a way I can do this a legit way? How come my phone did not take the update, while others did? How can I force my phone to update? I'd like to keep my phone as stock as possible and not do any modding to it.
If I really have no other options, then I guess flashing is my best bet. And considering the last phone I had that I took any time to mod was the first-gen iPhone, I have no clue what any of this lingo means - but I guess that's what Google is for. However if any of you have a quick link in mind you could post that might help me or at least point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated. I looked at the link posted above to the actual ROM file and it has some simple install instructions, however I'm not sure if that's all I need to do considering I'm still fully stock. Thanks again guys for all your help.

Run the 4.03.605.2 RUU. Let it boot 1 time, then wipe and install shrike's CounterShrike CM9 ROM. It's seriously a great ROM and super smooth in comparison to stock. Basically, what this phone should have been from day 1.

A few people got 4.03.605.1 a week or two after the 3.14.605.12 OTA, but they never mass rolled it out. Awesome, just what I needed to know. I will just be patient then. Thanks!
Yep, basically the only reason why the global update ever made it to light is because the manufacturers like HTC like to "splash test" on a few customers, let them report back bugs and what not, at this point if there aren't any bugs or the bugs that are present are workable, they will release the update in mass to the rest of the public.
Basically, a splash tester knew what they were doing, whipped together that nice little "flashable" ruu package and released it for the rest of us to hack up for our own uses. Usually, we look forward to these little splash test releases because they do contain newer bug fixes, but they also contain new kernels, libs and other useful things we need to continue making roms like aosp or sense 4 work better
I'd say if you want it, go ahead and flash it. Its just not official as they say because it did not arrive onto your phone via ota update directly from htc and verizon. Although it is an official build built by htc.
Hi all, im just wondering if anyone knows the current status on the development for rooting the 4.3 (MJ7) update, or unlocking the bootloader, if possible. I am going to inherit a gs4 a little over half a year from now and im wondering if i will even be able to even root and put a rom on it like i did for my gs3. Do you think they will ever root & rom the last version they ever release for the phone? The owner always updates it no matter what i say, so would it be okay for him to update to the latest update in the future, or should i push even harder for him not to update?
Thanks

Maybe it's me. But if I'm dealing with people who do this kind of thing purely for the challenge of it, I don't ask them when they'll be done.
I'm not trying to be a smartass, but this kind of work is dealing with a bunch of unknowns. Like all other phones, eventually it'll likely be figured out. Until then, best you can do is tune into the channels they use to communicate with each other and you can gain an appreciation for both what they're up against and how they're progressing.
Should you continue to update? Each update will usually close the hole exploited to gain root. The process begins all over again. My experience on the two HTC devices I've had is that it takes several months to find the first exploit and several weeks to find new ones after each update.
You're a year and a half out from owning your own S4. Be comforted in the fact that by the time you get it, it'll be a piece of crap compared to the new phones that'll be out then.
Then again, my original Incredible and the Rezound are still quite usable phones today.

Thanks

I can't see where it makes any difference. At this point in time I believe it's safe to say the S4 bootloader will never be unlocked. As for finding an exploit such as LOKI, I doubt it.
We do have SafeStrap which is a great achievement but not as good as LOKI as it won't allow ASOP ROMs to run.
Conclusion, learn to love the stock ROM, I believe you're going to have to live with it. You may be able to root which will allow you to remove bloat, let's hope so anyway....
NOTE: I should point out that 2 years from now I believe the manufacturers and carriers will have made ALL phones locked with no way to unlock or flash anything.
Meanwhile, the developers are still working so hope for the best but expect the worst.
