Okay I have a few questions. I have had my Rezound for a couple months now and tired of waiting for the OTA update. So I was wanting to switch to one of the leaks. My phone is not rooted and still all factory with Sense 3.5. My main question is if I decide to use the Leaked version and then later the official comes out will I be able to do a update and go back to being official? Or maybe like a stock rom that will erase your phone and install all back to factory including the root?
Also do you absolutely have to root to install the leak? Please if you have any answers for my questions please let me know. Thank you.
You don't need root at all to use an RUU. I would advise against upgrading. Most of the ICS ROMS support the gb firmware. Just be patient. Only a little longer till ICS!!
Yeah thats what I have heard many times. Its coming in Jan, It's coming in Feb, Its coming in March, Its coming in April, It's coming in May. WAIT LET ME GUESS its coming in JUNE?!?! lol So sick of all the delays with it. Although I suppose waiting another few months wont hurt nothing.
I jumped on the last ICS leak when the May 9th release didn't happen. I have no complaints! I think the update will come to my phone even with this... If it doesn't, someone will leak it!

Okay question is do I have to root? Do I have to install something special? what are the steps to installing it? And what are the steps to resort back?

You can upgrade without root to the latest leak, in the event you need to downgrade firmware, it will require rooting the phone and s-off.
No, I was completely stock gb before the leak. I hadn't done anything...

There's never been an official announcement of a date, just rumors and speculation....
As for getting back, I am not so sure about that... Find the thread about the latest leak. The answers to your questions are in it.

If you don't know how to get back to stock you shouldn't do it.
You don't need root to upgrade, but you need to unlock, root and s-off to get back to stock gb.
Even if you got somehow off the upgrade path, of you were to s-off then it wouldn't matter.
If you do go from GB to ICS firmware just remember to factory reset the phone after the RUu or you "may" have data issues. Not everybody does, but some do so do it anyway.

UH after an ruu everything should be set i don't see why you would have to factory reset...
Well...there is probably a couple hundred of us who had this issue right when s-off came out. It only happens after s-off. Least that I have seen. 4G will Drop connection like mad if you don't factory reset immediately after the ruu completes and rom boots.
I also mean the factory reset in hboot, not in the rom.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
I say do some reading, familarize yourself with the process, then go ahead and s-off and get ICS. Never know if getting the official ICS update will screw you or not in terms of keeping locked down, and the current ICS builds are pretty well done. But only do what you are comfortable doing.

I am also one of those hundreds of people. It only takes a minute, so why not just do it. Most of the other issues people had were fixed by a factory reset in hboot also.
Contacted HTC and they said June or July for ICS.

As per the title - I called HTC yesterday and spoke with one of the CS reps. I asked and after a brief wait, the representative stated that the device should be updated to ICS in June or July. With the HTC Amaze 4G rolled out (not VZW)--at least they have one less phone in front of ours.
I'm in the same predicament. I am very interested in the OTA but the speculation on has only led to more disappointment. In the end, for me at least, I'm pleased with my bone stock Rezound. Zero issues. I am looking forward to making it even better like many of the current owners have done.

So I've been hearing alot about GB being transmitted OTA for us to update lately. I've been holding off flashing a ROM, waiting to see how this OTA looks. But I'm impatient, what can I say! I've read all over that they are staggering the OTA updates and I have yet to see mine yet. So I decided to call HTC and ask them about it. They said no worries when it comes out it will just pop up for an update one day.. so the next day I call the HTC tech support and ask them when my device is scheduled to receive the update.. the HTC tech tells me she's not heard anything about a GB update coming OTA to all the Thunderbolts and acts like a dumb blond wondering what I'm talking about. I got frustrated and hung up on her. Does anyone know how they are staggering it or how you can tell when your update will pop up? I'm getting impatient and I want to flash to like BAMF or Bamf remix and load netflix etc.. but if the OTA GB updated is gonna pop up in like an hour or something I'd rather wait and see how that looks.
Since I got my phone I have yet to see it update anything and I've had it for about a month now. I'm rooted and everything else is stock, When I check status in software update the only thing with anything listed there is the Source : Verizon Wireless,.. all the other fields are blank. Every single time I try to do "Check New" for software update I get nothing happening or a failure of some sort. Sometihng about it being unavailable..
I'm just wondering if a GB update really is coming and how soon and if my phone is up to date at all. Liek i said it's stock rooted and I'm really tempted to use Rom Manager Premium and switch to BAMF... Thanks for any help anyone can offer!
GB is so far away bud. The ota update that's coming is the MR2 froyo. Just like the leak we got

Settle down Bevis, the GB OTA won't be coming for at least another 2 months.
Make the switch.

Dont forget the MR2 radio also

And dont flash anything from in CWM, use recovery.
And verify MD5's
And dont forget to wipe data/factory reset from recovery,,, After you make a back up that is.
Pretty sure you meant "don't flash anything in ROM Manager" since CWM would be recovery

Theory of Candy > Bamf for the GB builds.
what makes u think gingerbread will pop up in an hour? first thing i did when i got the phone was get rid of sense. cant stand it.
I really dont see what all the hub bub is about OTA's. By the time they are pushed to the phones, we generally have months of notice here via the forums. And besides which, what they push is out dated by the time they push them out. We do currently have GB builds available in the ROM section and they are great. If you want GB flash one of those. If you must wait for the OTA, then be prepared to wait for a while. Even if HTC came out tomorrow and said "Oh HAi Guyz, we has GB for all your phones and it is ready" then guess what.....VZW has to approve that build before it does anything...and as we all know...VZW takes forever to do so.
I am waiting for a relatively stable CyanogenMod 7 build that includes the permission override feature. Yes, I know you can do that with any rooted rom with permissions denied but the CM7 one is supposed to work better (for example, when you deny an app network access it does not cause a security exception but is told that there is no network available).

Stock stinks!
You will know when an OTA GB update is coming on these threads long before it shows up on your phone...Imo the GB ROMs based on the leak are buggy, although I do flash them every time there's an update. However, the Froyo based ROMs are awesome and run extremely well. I flash different ROMs regularly, but always go back to Bamf Remix because it is...well, bad ass. You need to get off stock now if you want your phone to live up to it's potential. Even if it's just for better battery life...I get DOUBLE the life using Bamf 1.7, no joke, 20>24 hrs on a charge using my phone all day with 4G.

I have a question. I just flashed the GB 2.0-6 from bamf last night but just received my replacement last night. So do I just adb root again than flash the mr2 and 2.0-6 all over or is there an easier way? Hope this wasn't confusing and thanks for the help.

If "No", please let us know why you chose to hold off, and if/when you plan to upgrade to the leak/ and or OTA.
I will start.
I chose not to upgrade yet.
Mainly because, if anyone reading this was around during the Eris, 2.1 leaked fiasco, you will understand my new and improved policy of waiting at least 3 full days on anything leaked.
Anyway, I also am holding out because
1) Joelz (I hope) will be making a patch for us folk who are waiting.
2) I have been getting better batt life on GB
3) hasn't been 3 days yet.. but now that the firmware is out, I may be editing this post in a couple days.
Reminds me of the 3 day rule for not calling a chick after you get her number. HAH!
I went ahead and updated....we'll see how this goes.
I just upgraded to CleanROM 3.7, so I'm going to wait for the official release of ICS before I flash a next ROM.

I voted No... ICS is not that big of a deal for me. My phone is #1 a business tool and having it work is more important that how it looks. That being said, I am quite content right now with GB, how the device looks and works. Battery life is acceptable and I can use all of the tools I need to use. It is one very AWESOME phone as it is right now.
This might change if I see a lot of users using it without a lot of issues, but I might just wait until the Official OTA arrives.
There are more things to life than ICS....
Never ending... after the masses gets ICS they will want JB and then they will demand KLP.... it never ends.
I did almost bricked in the process as well
But all in all I say its worth it. We atleast have a method to downgrade the hboot if needed

I am holding off until I see there are no issues AND there is a way to get back to stock GB via Ruu in the crazy case I need to return to Verizon.
They may not check much but I'd rather be safe since 4.0 is noticeably different.

I have upgraded but I'm having trouble with the service.
Phone keeps telling me to insert a sim card when I already have one...
Just saw in Scotts ics thread you can't go back to Gingerbread after Ics ruu (he even updated his op).....so I will be holding off....at least until gets proven otherwise
Edit: now Scott is saying you can go back but there's a sd issue...however he said there is a fix....

I didn't vote because there's no option for "I'm on the second ICS leak and waiting for more ROMs to be based off of the third leak".
I just hope there will be a Rom that doesn't require the ics ruu as a prerequisite.
I am sure those of us with our tin foil hats would really appreciate it.
Also I can only imagine the forums whenever the official release comes and by chance it doesn't play nice with the leak.
Looks like gb for me, unless there's a Rom that doesn't require this leak. Guess time will tell...hopefully everything works out for everyone but I will just err on the cautious side.

I got the AndroidPolice all-stock zip of the new VZN ICS. Experimented all day with it including the TAMPERERED warning, and other stuff. Found out that when 100% bone stock, the new ICS will allow you to freeze/eliminate all the things I don't use, like VZN Navigator, Twitter, Trneds, NFLMobile, Lets Golf,Hot Pursuit, Freindstream, etc. So, I am ReLocked, and stock and happy because a bunch of bloaty things don't start and can't be seen in the app drawer. Bottom Line: the new ICS is gonna be so great, some folks won't have to unlock to get exactly what they want. Warning: if you check it out, getting back to GB isn't impossible, but it's a hassle.

Yessir, no root was for me. lol, after about a week, I ended up calling CS and getting a refurb, they said nothing about the phone being on a leak lol.
i would rather wait a get the official OTA firmware. rather than some leaked ****.
So I have a 2-3 month old Rezound that is still stock-everything, not rooted, etc. etc. Honestly, I am really tired of these ICS rumors failing every two weeks, and I have finally lost my patience. My question is, if I use the unrooted method for getting the leaked ICS on my device, will I still get the OTA update when/if Verizon finally releases the official version?

Can't really give you a definite yes or no to this as unsure of what the version revision numbers would end up being. Adopt s-off, and don't worry, from there you can flash ANYTHING your heart desires. But remember "with power comes great responsibility".

Thank you so much for the reply, I figured the old rumors were a bust, but the May 9th one seemed more legitimate to me for some reason. I should have rooted it the day I got the phone, it's just the [expletive] warranty; with my luck, the second I root it, is going to be the second it screws up royally. Oh well, guess I'll have to rely on the total incompetence of the people at the Verizon store. Thanks again!
If you do an unlock/root, it's practically unbrickable. S-off there is more chance. From what you gain with custom roms/leaks on this phone is astoundingly a night/day difference.
EDIT:
Even if you unlock and flash Ineffabilis 1.4, that even helps and won't need to mess with any radios or hboots.
Getting my rezound today, although not a poster a very frequent lurker. My question is, I rooted my Eris almost immediately after I got it, and I rooted my Incredible the day I got it. do as i say:
1. HTC Dev unlock
2. flash amonRa Recovery
3. Root
4. s-off
at this point you will be **LOCKED** and s-off. Do whatever you want to it at this point, just don't HTCDev Unlock again. If you need to get back to stock from this point for warranty fears... just flash the latest official software via RUU, and run the s-on procedure, you will then be **LOCKED** and s-on, and fully stock.
peace.

I'll be the one cautionary advisor.
DON'T root your Rezound until you've had a chance to play with it at least a month.
What happens if you root it today and have to swap it out tomorrow under warranty?
There are no confirmed reports of being charged for a returned rooted phone, but rooting does put you at risk. And there are plenty of confirmed reports of hardware issues.
Give yourself some time to make sure you have a good phone.

I completely agree with this. You have 14 days to play with your Rezound and decide if you want to keep it.
If developer support is important to you and you're hoping to get a slew of AOSP options, you might want to think twice. AOSP is coming, but we have no idea in what capacity it will be supported or if we'll get an official CM9 or what.
If you love Sense and want nothing more than Sense ROMs, then stick around; there are tons of them in all sorts of variants (Sense 3.6 & 4.0).
It's a fantastic device no matter how you look at it. The hardware is truly superb. Just make sure it's right for you.

If you're going to root, you might as well do S-Off if you have the time and patience to read through all of the material. You can actually return the phone to stock, ROM installation is easier and more straightforward, you can switch radios if needed and RUU upgrade or downgrade.
The biggest reason to do it now is that there's no guarantee that S-Off will work in the future. I held off doing S-Off for a few weeks at first (mostly because of lack of time), but looking back I would have done it sooner if I could have. Pretty much all of the bugs have been encountered and sorted out.

Ya I know. I'm going to s-off soon since the ota will be out somewhat soon. I just saw no point in s-off with no official radios to flash and flashing kernel in bootloader and fastboot is no big deal to me. When I got my rezound, s-off was still somewhat uncommon but now it isn't. I really want to have everything figured out first before I do it and make sure I understand everything before I attempt so I don't end up like these other people posting "ahhh I bricked my phone with s-off!!!!" Even though they really didn't and just made a mistake due to ignorance or not paying attention. After you obtain s-off in control bear, you just flash an ruu in bootloader? Is that right?

I rooted mine 10 minutes after I got it out of the box. If you end up not liking it, you could always trade or sell it. If you try to exchange it in the 14 day period Verizon charges a $35 restocking fee. If you have issues and want it exchanged just call customer service and tell them you have already tried multiple factory data resets and the problem persists. Just go s-off and enjoy it.

Just need to create a nandroid containing at least boot image. ControlBear, IIRC, reboots you to recovery once completed, so you can then restore boot. As it does all the work from the boot partition.
@OP
Wait about a week. Any defects should show within that time.

After you obtain S-Off, what you do next depends on what you want to do with your phone. If you want to upgrade/downgrade the radios, hboot, and firmware, go ahead and flash an RUU in the bootloader. The 3.13 and 3.14 leaks are fairly stable, though I had better luck with the 3.13 radios (which are the same as 3.11). You can then reinstall your recovery (for example, use a PH98IMG.zip to flash AmonRa back on your phone), and restore a nandroid if you want. Otherwise you can just install a new ROM. Depending what firmware you're already on (leak or OTA), you may need to flash the appropriate file to get your nandroid backup to run properly, as the newer firmware changes the SD card mount points. But from now on when you do nandroid restores it will properly restore your kernel. Similarly most new ROMs are oriented towards S-Off devices, and will just require you to flash once in recovery and not go through the install kernel in bootloader process any more.
Edit: You probably have already read this, but do not unlock your phone again after getting S-Off. You can't get back to the "Locked" status without redoing the S-Off procedure. Either flash one of the modified Hboots, or simply flash the PH98IMG.zip version of your recovery of choice. I'm on the stock hboot and did the latter.
Do it right meow!
How long will it take you to find a paperclip?
Edit:
BTW you guys really get into some detail. All he asked was how long he should wait. You guys are like typing out books and ****..

Here is the link to the global update: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/ Lucky for you, since you haven't unlocked you bootloader or done anything otherwise, you can flash this in your bootloader and get the update with no problem.
Two notes on flashing that...first it's unofficial, so flashing it might risk your ability to get OTA's in the future. Second, it will wipe your data, apps, and internal storage. However, with those two caveats, it will work just fine.
I appreciate the input guys. However, both of you state I need to "flash" to do this - which looks to me (as stated above) it's an unofficial method of getting this update. I'm curious, is there a way I can do this a legit way? How come my phone did not take the update, while others did? How can I force my phone to update? I'd like to keep my phone as stock as possible and not do any modding to it.
If I really have no other options, then I guess flashing is my best bet. And considering the last phone I had that I took any time to mod was the first-gen iPhone, I have no clue what any of this lingo means - but I guess that's what Google is for. However if any of you have a quick link in mind you could post that might help me or at least point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated. I looked at the link posted above to the actual ROM file and it has some simple install instructions, however I'm not sure if that's all I need to do considering I'm still fully stock. Thanks again guys for all your help.

If I really have no other options, then I guess flashing is my best bet. your phone is up to date! like they said above and the global is unofficial, therefore putting the global ruu on your phone would be the latest!

I've heard this came out a couple months ago, but my phone as yet to update on its own. When I try and check for an update, it says there are no updates to be found. And when I check my phone, my current software is 3.14.605.12. Anybody know how I can upgrade to the latest? Ever since I upgraded to ICS, my phone has been nothing but trouble for me, and I'm hoping if I upgrade to the latest that some of these problems might go away. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Run the 4.03.605.2 RUU. Let it boot 1 time, then wipe and install shrike's CounterShrike CM9 ROM. It's seriously a great ROM and super smooth in comparison to stock. Basically, what this phone should have been from day 1.

My apologies, but I don't quite understand. You're saying my phone is up to date with the 3.14.x.x software, and the 4.03.x.x that I'm looking for is actually some "custom" ROM and unofficial?

think of it like getting a Blu-Ray Movie Early. They say when the Blu-ray should be released but some guys who know people can get an Early Copy but modify it to make it Better than its original Release. And this is all totally legal.

So this 4.03.x.x is just not out yet? I've been seeing news articles of them reporting on it as far back as August. Has it just not rolled out to every phone yet? If not, then I will continue to wait. I just thought my phone was messed up and wouldn't take the update.

But waiting on Verizon to Roll out the Update will take a loooonng time. but Sites have the Latest (Unofficial)Build. Unofficial is kind of like Alpha, and Beta. Unofficial is inbetween Alpha n Beta.
It basically gives u global function so if your not going to other countries don't even worry about it. I promise if u take the time to figure everything out and flash it you won't be able to tell a difference. Just skip it

A few people got 4.03.605.1 a week or two after the 3.14.605.12 OTA, but they never mass rolled it out. I know of one person on XDA who got it as an OTA. 4.03.605.2 surfaced a few days later on Android Police, but I haven't heard of anyone getting it as an OTA, and there hasn't been a peep out of Verizon on it.

Awesome, just what I needed to know. I will just be patient then. Thanks!
Yep, basically the only reason why the global update ever made it to light is because the manufacturers like HTC like to "splash test" on a few customers, let them report back bugs and what not, at this point if there aren't any bugs or the bugs that are present are workable, they will release the update in mass to the rest of the public.
Basically, a splash tester knew what they were doing, whipped together that nice little "flashable" ruu package and released it for the rest of us to hack up for our own uses. Usually, we look forward to these little splash test releases because they do contain newer bug fixes, but they also contain new kernels, libs and other useful things we need to continue making roms like aosp or sense 4 work better
I'd say if you want it, go ahead and flash it. Its just not official as they say because it did not arrive onto your phone via ota update directly from htc and verizon. Although it is an official build built by htc.
