My nook tablet started boot-looping for some reason. - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Hi. I have a problem which never happened to me before on my tablet. My nook is rooted and has already CWM and ICS installed on it, but today when I tried to boot it after leaving it off for a couple of days, it failed to start android.
It starts up normally and loads cyanoboot, which then tries to launch android from the emmc. After this it gives a black screen for a few seconds and goes back to the first nook screen. It then loads cyanoboot and does the same thing again. I wiped everything and flashed android again but it didn't help.
I don't understand what has changed. I had it working perfectly all the time during the past month. Can anyone help me diagnose this issue?
Thanks.

Maybe it just expired if you dont have the latest version 0.03 then flash it and you should be good again.

Interesting. It worked.
Never knew a ROM could expire.
Thank you very much.

this one yes, due to some people that would like to sell it so ... dev was smart and added an expiration feature

I had this happen and decided to just restore back to a backup but now I'm in a CWM loop. I restore clear cache and dalvik (sp?) select reboot and I'm back at CWM...any idea what I'm doing wrong?

You have to flash the latest version of Cm9. The version you're on (probably 0.02) will never boot again because it has expired. Just flash the latest build from the Cm9 thread (0.03) and you'll be fine again.

If you restore from the backup, and then flash the newest CM9 (still 0.03) itll simply update the OS, not delete any of your user-data ie: apps, music, contacts.

Re-install of 9.03 didn't work

I have the exact same problem and have tried to re-flash 9.03 but to no avail. It still continues to loop. I did not know these things expired. Should I consider moving to 9.04???

On .3 as well and was reading a book tonight and all of a sudden it started boot looping.

I got the same problem then flash again and again too many rom file.
With flash_stock_1.4.2.zip in _https://github.com/succulent/acclaim_recovery_sdcard my Nook Tablet works again like new. Just try it

hi, you try wipe cache when installed cm9? If you do'nt wipe cache, it loop

Try this site and learn how to nvflash, then download the bootloader 1.2 stock rom and reset your tablet. Good luck.

Well I got Team DRH's CWMR Touch to boot now and I got my stock gTab back for about 10 mins. After wiping everything clear I was able to return to stock but after maybe the second reload I got nothing. Seems I lose the the stock ROM and have to start the NVFlash process again to get it to load. Any ideas on how I can get a stable stock ROM?

You might want to try using just the stock 1.1 nvflash with stock recovery first before jumping straight to 1.2 with touch recovery. Granted NVflash was designed to write the stock IMG to you device but best to restore to a complete stock 1.1 go through setup and except the OTA update. This should put you through a better course and update both stock firmware and bootloader. Then as long as everything sticks you can update the recovery IMG using the NVflash package available for what ever ROM you decide to update to. Good luck.

I would try nvflashing again and make sure your repartition and do all the wipe caches n factory reset before and after you nvflash and hopfully that will clear things up. Might go ahead and try the Smooth Bean Rom. U wont regret it. Blazzing speed.
Thanks guys, I did get it up and running but its not stable. When I update to the firmware it crashes and won't load. After a few restarts sometimes it works some times I have to NVF to restore it again. Should I try the NVF 1.1?
At this point I have/had CWM with no rooted ROM, only stock trim.

1.1 seems to allow the OTA update. Getting some forced close apps now.
Do I need to wipe everything now?
Well I found what appears to be a stable stock setup now.
I can't get into CWM now and Rom Manager won't install, neither will Google Play.

First off using ROM manager for you Gtab is just asking for trouble. Don't use it.
As far as Google play how are you trying to install it and what on?

G tablet stuck "booting recovery kernel image"
I tried to restore to TnT using the zip file up date. Rebooted and the only think I get is the View Sonic logo and in the upper left hand corner "booting recovery kernel image" Also also can not access through the USB from my PC. I tried putting the recovery files on a micro sd card but the tablet does not recognize it. Is there any way I can get access from my pc? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

At this point the only thing that would advise to do is NVflash to stock with the CWM recovery image pre-installed so that everything would be correct. When NVflash is complete boot into recovery and perform a wipe data factory reset and reboot into system.

same thing happened to my phone with CM 10, so i ended up instaling the android revolution rom for the time being.
What recovery are you using? Use 4ext if you aren't, try again, if it loops more than once, you either forgot to wipe before install or you need to flash the kernel manually.

I also had a problem when I flashed Speedrom but with versions 6.5 which I had previously working perfectly but then decided to switch to SS3 and then switch back. Now I also had the bootloop issue thing where the thing would just keep spinning. So I re-flashed SS3 with the faux kernel and then just did the two things:
4EXT Recovery btw
Wipe data/factory reset
Clear dalvik cache
Then install the rom and once done, go back to menu and reboot from recovery. It should tell you that the previously used boot.img will be used (that is what I get when I flash my roms and they work perfectly).
+1 is this helped!
Thanks it worked! Though I switxhed back to speed rom lol

[HELP]Stuck on Boot Animation

Ok. so long story short, I rooted, unlocked my bootloader, made a backup in cwm(when i went to restore it i got (md5 mismatch) and then proceeded to install the base .7. after starting installation i clicked reboot now and it's been stuck on the nexus 4 boot animation. Any ideas why?
I've also run into this issue. Havent managed to find any fixes so far. Done full wipes and flashes back to stock and back to base and back and back, no dice on anything I've tried.
Hell, sometimes the ROM decides to skip the semantics and locks up my phone during installation. Have to hard reset & flash backups.
Anyway, back to the point on hand -- I'd also greatly appreciate any input on this issue.
I'd recommended installing the flashable stock ROM available in The Development section. Then flash The Base without wiping anything.

If you got md5 errors you're using an early release of cwm for us that doesn't work right. You need to update it to a good recovery if you can and flash that first. It will help with the wipe issues too. That recovery, if I'm not mistaken, had some issues wiping, too. sk8terwitskil put out a new one early this morning.

And the all have the same green leaf for a home screen, so are my ROMS not being written to the right place or what. this is getting confusing. the ROM form about shows the different versions but all are skipping the setup and I have no 3G/LTE connection, only wifi.
Whatever I am doing I seem to be consistent about it

the AOPK had gapps folded in. what is odd is I have now tried AOPK and a CM10 and CM10.1 and they all seem to have the same start screen, come up after the boot like it is already installed, missing any 3G/4G connection. Now I have flashed back to EG01 and run up though iCS several times and it isn't taking the CWM now, says it installs ok but boots into stock recovery. Now I using the older CWM 5504 for the i-905 and it writes somewhere, but apparently not where it should be. I was going to try TWRP but that doens't appear to run on HC/ICS - is it JB only? I have shied away from the newer CWM for a long time because for a while they just seemed to boot-loop the tablet.
Any one have a suggested working version of CWM? This starting from scratch and rolling in all the updates is getting old - which is why I was wondering if there is a way to build my own ODIN set to just flash back to this point without having to go though reroot and install of the recovery (which apparently now I am not able to do - wts! )
Thanks!
Rob (lost) in Katy.
Twrp is compatible with ICS too, if im not mistaken. Go to www.droidbasement.com and download pershoots's version of cwm recovery. That should work just fine. BTW, you did make a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik) right? And what's EG01?

Ok, i found another recovery laying around that seems to be working. I also found that the bug where you need to delete the script that deletes the new recovery. Once I got that far things started making sense. I guess whatever mod I was on before didn't need it. The next trick will be trynig to decifer how to do an odin backup so that I don't haver to roll though 4/5 upgrades to get here. I know someone is doing it. thanks for the help and a place to bounce ideas. will update if i come up with anything.

[Q] Stuck at launch screem

I have a p4wifi that is stuck in a boot loop. I think the term is 'soft bricked'.
Basically, last night I turned my tab on for the first time in ages, and it all worked fine. I had rooted and flashed custom roms before (I'd been running a nightly of CyanogenMod for a long time, and it worked well), and I considered myself an expert. I updated loads of apps and stuff, and then realised I wanted a new font. I went into ROM manager and found the font I wanted, Ubuntu. It told me there was an update to ClockworkMod recovery so I wen ahead and updated it, checking the thing for Touch (I'd already bought it). That want ahead and it updated, throwing me back into the OS. I then went to get Ubuntu (I downloaded it within ROM manager), and didn't deem it necessary to create a backup, nor wipe anything. It processed it but returned an error, I though ok but never mind and I told it to reboot. Again that worked fine. I realised I was on a very old verson of CyanogenMod (probably ICS, it was around 201304). As I always do, I grabbed the latest version (again, in ROM manager), and elected to install it. I didn't wipe the delvik cache or whatever, and hit 'Reboot into recovery'. That was where the problem occurred. It wouldn't go any further than the 'Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1' boot screen (see attachment) into recovery. A similar thing happened before, but it just eventually went away after an hour or so. This has been running for a day, and there has been no progress. I've tried various key combos, like the normal way to get into recovery, but they won't work.
If I need I could find the instructions I followed, but it would be hard.
Is it completely broken? Can a save my data? Will I have to factory reset it? Will I keep my root/ClockworkMod? Will I keep my rom?
Thanks in advance to the person who can answer this
Do you have any ROM zips in your SD card? If you do, boot into recovery, full wipe and flash it. Piece of advice, don't use the recovery in ROM manager. Download pershoot's version of cwm instead in here. www.droidbasement.com

I have a few nandroid backups, if that counts? I do have a few ROM zips on my SD card too, though. Will a full wipe delete photos etc? I'm guessing it'll get rid of the apps, but that's no problem. But how would I get into recovery? I've already tried to get in with no success.

If you can find a way to get into recovery, then yes you can use your nandroid. You problem now is you can't get into recovery or download mode, right? Well can you try using adb? If you can then type adb reboot recovery in command prompt to reboot to recovery.
Oh yeah, full wipe won't delete photos etc unless you wipe your internal storage/SD card.

So you can get into download mode?
Download mode, yes. I've got it open now, in fact
Now that's easy. Your tab can't boot because it doesn't have any sort of recovery(don't ask me why I don't know ). Apparently ROM Manager wiped your recovery clean and didn't flash the new one. Just flash cwm or twrp via Odin and try to boot. If it still can't boot, then restore your nandroid. Ironically, the same thing happened to me yesterday when I tried to flash latest twrp using Mobile Odin.

I actually have no idea. I think I used a program similar to Odin that did the job. I remember booting into download more before. Oh yes, I flashed the disk image for the root and CWM using the default windows tool. Anyway, I've fixed it now. I couldn't find a .tar to do the job so I converted a random file to a .tar and flashed it that way, tricking it into thinking it had a recovery and therefore booting. In the OS I used ROM Manager to get CWM.
