Viewsonic G Tablet Bricked! Help! - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I have searched the forums already, but to no avail. I have a bricked G Tablet UPC300-2.2 and I am trying to find the stock files and instructions on how I can get this tablet up and running again. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Try this site and learn how to nvflash, then download the bootloader 1.2 stock rom and reset your tablet. Good luck.

Also looking for help. I got the nvflash to work but after the reboot it hangs on the "n" after TnT. When I reboot with "vol +" I see the kernel try to load and then it goes to the black Android screen and !. Any ideas were to look?

Well I got Team DRH's CWMR Touch to boot now and I got my stock gTab back for about 10 mins. After wiping everything clear I was able to return to stock but after maybe the second reload I got nothing. Seems I lose the the stock ROM and have to start the NVFlash process again to get it to load. Any ideas on how I can get a stable stock ROM?

You might want to try using just the stock 1.1 nvflash with stock recovery first before jumping straight to 1.2 with touch recovery. Granted NVflash was designed to write the stock IMG to you device but best to restore to a complete stock 1.1 go through setup and except the OTA update. This should put you through a better course and update both stock firmware and bootloader. Then as long as everything sticks you can update the recovery IMG using the NVflash package available for what ever ROM you decide to update to. Good luck.

I would try nvflashing again and make sure your repartition and do all the wipe caches n factory reset before and after you nvflash and hopfully that will clear things up. Might go ahead and try the Smooth Bean Rom. U wont regret it. Blazzing speed.

Thanks guys, I did get it up and running but its not stable. When I update to the firmware it crashes and won't load. After a few restarts sometimes it works some times I have to NVF to restore it again. Should I try the NVF 1.1?
At this point I have/had CWM with no rooted ROM, only stock trim.

1.1 seems to allow the OTA update. Getting some forced close apps now.
Do I need to wipe everything now?

Well I found what appears to be a stable stock setup now.
I can't get into CWM now and Rom Manager won't install, neither will Google Play.

First off using ROM manager for you Gtab is just asking for trouble. Don't use it.
As far as Google play how are you trying to install it and what on?

G tablet stuck "booting recovery kernel image"
I tried to restore to TnT using the zip file up date. Rebooted and the only think I get is the View Sonic logo and in the upper left hand corner "booting recovery kernel image" Also also can not access through the USB from my PC. I tried putting the recovery files on a micro sd card but the tablet does not recognize it. Is there any way I can get access from my pc? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

At this point the only thing that would advise to do is NVflash to stock with the CWM recovery image pre-installed so that everything would be correct. When NVflash is complete boot into recovery and perform a wipe data factory reset and reboot into system.

[Q] Can't seem to boot into CWM?

I flashed my Atrix with CWM from RomManager. Everything worked fine. I loaded CM7 on no problem. I had some issues with it (Pre beta 4) so i recovered back to stock backup i had made. Recently the CM7 beta came out so i wanted to try that. I tried restarting and holding the volume down key and got the normal menu. I went to Android Recovery, but it didn't appear to be CWM anymore. It was a little android guy with a yellow exclamation point? I was able to figure out that if you click both volume up and down together you can get to a wipe/load/ or reboot menu. However this was a bit strange. I went ahead and did a wipe from that menu (I pry shouldn't have - oh well). Anyway. I can't seem to get back into CwM. Does anyone know what could be going on. Do i have to re-root the phone and download rom manager again? It doesn't seem like that should be neccassary. Any help you guys can give would be great. Thanks!
Yes you need root for a custom recovery.
there is one click root now look in general
OP, did you make a nandroid backup with stock + rooted + bootloader unlocked? And it successfully restored with that while you were on CM7?
I have the latest version of Rom manager from the market place (v4.4.0.7) and I flashed what i think is the latest version of CWM (5.0.2.0).
---------- Post added at 09:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:58 PM ----------
I made a back up when i got into cwm the first time i was loading cm7 prebeta 4. I just went under backup/restore section of CWM and made a back up. So what i have done since is redid root. Then i downloaded Titatnium and got back to stock with my apps. Then i opened rom manager, (i flashed cwm again - even though it said i was on latest recovery). I restarted and tried to manual go into "Android Recovery" same thing (little android dude with yellow exclamation point). Then i rebooted normally and from rom manger i clicked "Reboot with Recovery" (thought since maybe it was a command from Rom manager it might work). My phone rebooted into that stupid little android guy again. It seems like i can't get into CWM? Any ideas guys?
I don't know much about this, but is there any way you could uninstall the CWM Recovery? Once that's done, try installing it again and hope for the best.
I don't think you can uninstall cwm. Anyone else got any ideas? Please? ?

Have you deleted the 'install-recovery.sh' file at /system/etc?
no, i didn't know i had to delete that? How did i ever get into that custom recovery then?
Beats me mate, have you tried deleting it and trying again? Let me know how it goes on. If you cant delete it for whatever reason, use ADB and the command
mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak

tried deleting it, but nothing. I don't know what the heck is going on here?

Q. Things are screwy, need some help please.

Ok, I'll try to be short about this.
I did the RegawMOD method and was able to install Liquid Smooth on the phone. (1.45)
When I was going to install an update for that things when odd. (I always back up, reset and wipe before hand)
The update didn't take however I was able to the home screen. As it was weird I went back to restore and the Trwp did not back up correctly. The file was bad.
I was able to get back to the home screen and then setup my phone. I decided to wait for a while until the roms grew up a bit.
Now I was going to install Mean 1.4 today so I downloaded as the post said and installed the radio. Downloaded the rom. When into recovery backup, reset and wiped. When I tried to flash the rom TWRP just started rebooting.
I have tried it several times and also tried to recover and TWRP keeps rebooting. Now I am stuck on the HTC screen.
What do I do now? I feel the recovery is bad.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Maybe a bad recovery flash or corupt download.. Try reflashing recovery through fastboot, download the ROM again, do a FULL wipe and reflash the ROM.

Thankfully I was able to install an earlier backup so at least I am running now. I have tried using Goo Manger to reinstall twrp 2.2. Just stays stuck at the download.
I haven't used the fastboot method before so I'll have to look that up. I want to get to mean 1.4 as included the OTA fixes because I have the wifi issue. Guess I'll have to wait until I have more time.
Thanks for the help.
Ok so I got goo manager to reflash the recovery.
Now I am on mean 1.4 and very happy. No more WiFi issues either!
Finally as useable as my OG EVO and dandy like this phone was ment to be.
Thanks for the help and thanks developers.
Very cool.

[Q] Help, stuck at "dual Core" screen. I can access CWM Recovery though

Hey folks,
So the end of Q3 came with no ICS so I decided it was time to learn about modding these phones. I have modded Xboxes etc so I figured I would try to take this on.
My Phone:
AT&T MB860 bone stock with 4591 on it when I started.
I was able to unlock the phone following a tutorial on youtube. Then I tried to reflash CWM and CM7 using AUTOMATIC_UNLOCK_V4.2. Thats where things went wrong. The phone got stuck at the Dual core screen (to be honest I might not have waited 10 minutes after flashing).
So now here I am the battery is drained so I am using a cut off USB cable for power. When the phone is booting it says "unlocked" in the top left corner I can access all of the menus. When I choose recovery the phone boots into ClockWork Mod recovery. I am hoping I am half way there and the kind folks here can guide me to the finish. If not I'm open to starting from scratch whichever is going to be fastest. I'll attach a few pics for reference

(I went through this today, I needed to use option 6 in automatic unlock 4.2 before I could get a Rom on my phone.) this was wrong, tried so many things I got confused, go to this thread:
[Unlocked Only][RECOVERY][2011-11-14] Custom CWM-based Recovery 5.0.2.7-atrix5 in ATRIX android development
and download one of the zipped recoveries, flash through recovery to get a modified CWM that left me install a Rom. I was stuck at the same screen as you before I did this now I'm up and running with MROM.
Your recovery is too old. Get a newer version of CWM. Try flashing this. If you can't you will have to fastboot flash a newer recovery.
Flash ROMs with CWM, not automated tools. CWM is the safest way. As soon as you get a new recovery installed create a backup. Good luck!
okay guys I'm jammed up I download the file CWM_Atrix4G_5.0.2.0 and copied it to a clean microsd. Then I went through the recovery menu
Install zip from sdcard>choose zip from sdcard>
In the next folder list I am unable to find the CWM file. Any tips on how to get the file straight onto the phones internal flash? Maybe through RSD?
Dude, you're trying to install recovery from the recovery... Doesn't really make sense, does it?
Use fastboot instead.
Avoid RSD at all costs.

You can't do a first install of recovery from recovery. But you can update (assuming recovery is functioning - even partially).

Yeah, I know. You posted a flashable ZIP, the only one I am aware of.
I'd still recommend a standard fastboot flash though.

I have flashed recovery with fastboot exactly once - when I unlocked by bootloader. Ever since it has been flashable zips.
Okay I successfully flashed the new recovery to v5.0.2. Then I chose "apply /sdcard/update.zip" I received the "Install from sdcard complete message" I then chose "+Go Back+" then "reboot". The phone rebooted and sat at the logo with "unlocked" in the corner for a few minutes. I thought maybe I needed to clear it by pulling the battery for a few seconds, which I did. then I let it sit on my desk for 20 minutes at the logo screen.
do need to go in and clear cache? is there another file I should try to flash?
Any input would be appreciated.

You probably need to re-flash your ROM.
Wipe data, cache, Dalvik, then flash ROM.

Umm... That would just install the recovery again. You need to flash a ROM. Seems like your boot partition (aka. the kernel) is borked.

I just installed CM7 on my Atrix last week. Don't forget to install gapps like I did. I had to install them as a zip from the recovery, but I think it's also possible to use the ROM Manager app.
Look for the Google Apps section on this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257574 This will have the Market (now Google Play) so you can download more apps.
After that, play with all the features! I started with Menu > Settings > CyanogenMod Settings and started playing around. Don't play with the performance settings without knowing what they do.
Also, Make a backup! Make a backup! Make a backup! It may save you when little else will.

P5113

Just rooted, attempted to install cyan 9, tablet is stuck on loading screen. Tried to flash a few stock roms via Odin, they all seem to fail. As did my attempts to throw Ubuntu on there.
I didn't backup anything outside of individual files via Titanium. Why? Because I'm an idiot. And because I found out I was supposed to do that after screwing it up.
So, am I completely done? Any possibilities of salvaging my tablet?
Thanks.

Have you tried to wipe Data, Cache, and Dalvik then reflash stock with ODIN.
*EDIT* Also, try flashing stock recovery and then factory reset.
..
Ok, thanks. I'll look into how to do all of that. Maybe I just needed to clear Dalvik, etc. prior to flashing stock rom? We'll see.
..
Update: My tablet won't actually shut off, just reboots, either into cyanmod load screen or Odin, if I choose to. I can't go into recovery to reset or clear cache, etc.
Given that I don't seem to be able to do that, and stock roms are failing to flash via Odin, I'm assuming this is the end for this tablet, no?

What process are you using to enter ODIN (download) mode? If you hold the volume up or down key through a reboot cycle what happens? If you hold the power button for 15sec what happens?

Are you flashing ROMs for the Galaxy Tab or Galaxy Tab 2? The P5113 is a Tab 2 (which means this thread belongs here). Is it possible you are flashing the wrong ROMs?
Any Luck?
This thread was in fact in the wrong area, but your solutions worked all the same. Thank you all.

[Q] Stuck at launch screem

I have a p4wifi that is stuck in a boot loop. I think the term is 'soft bricked'.
Basically, last night I turned my tab on for the first time in ages, and it all worked fine. I had rooted and flashed custom roms before (I'd been running a nightly of CyanogenMod for a long time, and it worked well), and I considered myself an expert. I updated loads of apps and stuff, and then realised I wanted a new font. I went into ROM manager and found the font I wanted, Ubuntu. It told me there was an update to ClockworkMod recovery so I wen ahead and updated it, checking the thing for Touch (I'd already bought it). That want ahead and it updated, throwing me back into the OS. I then went to get Ubuntu (I downloaded it within ROM manager), and didn't deem it necessary to create a backup, nor wipe anything. It processed it but returned an error, I though ok but never mind and I told it to reboot. Again that worked fine. I realised I was on a very old verson of CyanogenMod (probably ICS, it was around 201304). As I always do, I grabbed the latest version (again, in ROM manager), and elected to install it. I didn't wipe the delvik cache or whatever, and hit 'Reboot into recovery'. That was where the problem occurred. It wouldn't go any further than the 'Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1' boot screen (see attachment) into recovery. A similar thing happened before, but it just eventually went away after an hour or so. This has been running for a day, and there has been no progress. I've tried various key combos, like the normal way to get into recovery, but they won't work.
If I need I could find the instructions I followed, but it would be hard.
Is it completely broken? Can a save my data? Will I have to factory reset it? Will I keep my root/ClockworkMod? Will I keep my rom?
Thanks in advance to the person who can answer this
Do you have any ROM zips in your SD card? If you do, boot into recovery, full wipe and flash it. Piece of advice, don't use the recovery in ROM manager. Download pershoot's version of cwm instead in here. www.droidbasement.com

I have a few nandroid backups, if that counts? I do have a few ROM zips on my SD card too, though. Will a full wipe delete photos etc? I'm guessing it'll get rid of the apps, but that's no problem. But how would I get into recovery? I've already tried to get in with no success.

If you can find a way to get into recovery, then yes you can use your nandroid. You problem now is you can't get into recovery or download mode, right? Well can you try using adb? If you can then type adb reboot recovery in command prompt to reboot to recovery.
Oh yeah, full wipe won't delete photos etc unless you wipe your internal storage/SD card.

Just tried that, when I selected recovery it just turned off
So you can get into download mode?
Download mode, yes. I've got it open now, in fact
Now that's easy. Your tab can't boot because it doesn't have any sort of recovery(don't ask me why I don't know ). Apparently ROM Manager wiped your recovery clean and didn't flash the new one. Just flash cwm or twrp via Odin and try to boot. If it still can't boot, then restore your nandroid. Ironically, the same thing happened to me yesterday when I tried to flash latest twrp using Mobile Odin.

I actually have no idea. I think I used a program similar to Odin that did the job. I remember booting into download more before. Oh yes, I flashed the disk image for the root and CWM using the default windows tool. Anyway, I've fixed it now. I couldn't find a .tar to do the job so I converted a random file to a .tar and flashed it that way, tricking it into thinking it had a recovery and therefore booting. In the OS I used ROM Manager to get CWM.
