Hello all,
Would anyone have any recommendations for screen protectors that would work well with the Transformer? Whilst I realize that it may take a while for screen protectors that were specifically designed for the Transformer to be released, I will be doing quite a bit of travelling with the tablet over the next few weeks and would like to have something to protect the screen (I will also buy a case for it)
Many thanks!
You dont need any screen protector. It's got gorilla glass. If you can scratch the gorilla glass with anything other than a diamond ill buy you a new one myself.
Here's one of many videos of it on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avhQGzTld08
Thanks for the reply stuntdouble: I hear you on the Gorilla Glass, but I want to try to keep the screen prestine for when I try to sell my current unit when the Transformer V2 comes out. Maybe I'm being a bit irrational here but, for the small price of a screen protector, its more of a "why not" sort of thing.
Thanks dude
Well like I said before, the only things that will scratch it will be things like diamonds, and they will easily go through any screen protector you use anyways. All any gorilla glass screen needs to look pristine is a good wipe with a lens cloth every once in a while. So unless you are Kanye West or Lady Gaga with all the bling, you'll be fine.
A case however is a good idea for the rest of the unit's protection.
That's awesome, thanks for the vid.
You won't need a screen protector. It will look prestine forever. If it gets oily/greasy, just use an LCD/Plasma screen wipe on it and it will look good as new.
I am a SysAdmin at my company that has Macs and PCs, I steal the Mac screen wipes for devices and those work awesome lol.
What about one that helps with sunlight. It seems that it will be pretty unusable outdoors otherwise? Correct me if you know different.

That's why I buy screen protectors too, it makes a difference having a matt one.
I think a matte one would help with glare and annoying fingerprints. I've had two gorilla glass phones and I often like a protector for these two purposes, not just for protection.
Any links to matte ones ?, There's only ipad ones on ebay.
This is what I found, I may get one for myself.

How about this? Anti-reflective apparently...
EDIT. Arg, can't post the link yet. However go to Amazon UK, it's called:
"Vikuiti screen protector ADQC27 for Asus Eee Pad Transformer - PREMIUM QUALITY (crystal clear, anti-reflective, scratch-resistant, easy mountable)"
I'm a bit torn as to what to do about a screen protector for my transformer. Unless you get a really good matte one, they often reduce the clarity of the screen and introduce a kind of rainbow grain, and I don't want that as it was bad enough on my iphone.
However, I don't want a protector that doesn't really reduce the reflectiveness of the gorillaglass by much - the matte ones are brilliant for this and are really silky to the touch as well, but you do often have that trade off with image quality. At nearly £30 a pop, it's not the sort of thing you want to experiment with either!
Anyone got a protector they like yet?
I'll have to test this puppy outdoors before I start hunting down a anti-reflective screen protector. Reviewers tend to complain about glare and reflections much more than I do, so it is a wait and see situation. It's a huge trade off, matte faded colors with a cover, or bright, vivid display without? Plus, Corning gorilla glass is so silky smooth to the touch, I hate the feeling of cheap plastic screen covers.
@dandmcd Have you actually got one of these tablets? I have, and I can tell you that outdoors the thing is pretty much unusable and even in bright indoor areas like offices you'll need 100% brightness to be able to look at it without glare.
Also, my gorilla glass isn't what I'd call silky smooth. It's nicer than the iphone, but can still get sticky sometimes depending on how clammy your hands are. With the matt protector I have on my iphone, it's always silky smooth, just like The Zohan likes

I've not got any experience with touch screens (and especially multi-touch ones) used with screen protectors... Is your experience that you have to press harder or touches are detected less accurately when using a protector? If so, I'd likely prefer the glare issues to touch issues, but if not, a protector might well be worthwhile to cut down the glare...
To people saying it's not scratchable....yes, yes it is.

Yeah, and Corning's own PR folks have confirmed it is neither scratch *or* shatter proof in their own marketing videos. In several videos they reference having sand-blasted the glass to simulate normal use, and you can clearly see the scratched, sand-blasted area. In one video the Corning rep even states during the pressure test that "you could break it if you really bear down on it" or words to that effect.
Gorilla glass is neither scratch proof nor break proof -- it's just more strongly resistant to both than regular glass.
@dandmcd - It really does depend on the screen protector, but on the whole most are manufactured thin enough in that they don't affect the touchscreen sensitivity at all. I can only comment from my experience with two versions of the iphone, I haven't got a screen protector for my transformer yet....

The Flyer magic Pen would work better, for note taking, when using a matt surface. any ideas on a good matt screen protector?
I can confirm the Scribe works better with a Matt screen protector.

Too bad they're not shipping this to Germany. Why on earth are the good things only available in the UK ?
I put a zagg shield on mine and prefer it over the "naked" screen. I like the feel of th zagg when using the Flyer w/wo the pen.

Thank you so much, I already dug through Amazon.de, but I couldn't find any matte screen protector - is that one a matte one? I am after a matte protection in order to receive more natural writing experience as reported.pe
Edith speaking: this is the only matte one available in good ol' Germany. Thanks for the notice! Finally, the Navitech case is shipping here as well .
Well I'm pretty sure it's matt.
But you can also take the one from mumbi. They are available as "antiflex" and "cristalclear" ones... I bet all of them are pretty much the same so I bet you could go for the one I posted before or you can get the mumbi screen protector which is even cheaper.

Could you post where you purchased one in the US?
I just took off my matte screen (GreatShield from Amazon US).
I didn't think it helped that much with using the pen and it really dulled my screen. Maybe there is another brand matte screen that doesn't dull the screen as much as the GS shield does?
Additionally... there is no cutout for the front facing camera.
Tried two matt protectors, this one was easy to apply and does not dull the screen too much but enhances note taking: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004S79VE2/ref=oss_product
I think this is Euro product.
I just applied the GrestShield product from Amazon referenced above... Both posts are the same product. I bought mine from and Amazon UK, but was fulfilled from the US.
I prefer the matte / anti-glare because it reduces fingerprints on large touchscreen devices. The screen protector is made of a thicker plastic which builds confidence from a protection perspective. It does reduce the brightness of the device slightly, but I've had my flyer set on the lowest brightness setting for indoor use. Increasing the brightness should help.
I haven't played much with the pen yet, but I see no added affect good or bad. Again its the reassurance of protecting the screen with a metal accessory in such close proximity. Especially if you plan to use the other end of the pen as a capacitive stylus.
Overall very happy with the screen protector so far.
UPDATE: the screen protector makes the front camera unusable, but mine was such a poor quality I had essentially written it off. But I will keep an eye out for one with the camera cut-out.
I found the matt GreatShield was difficult to apply (caught a lot of air bubbles) and dulled the screen too much, but does make it easier to use the stylus for detailed notes.
I got the GreatShield clear screen protector and it works great. I don't even notice it's on and the pen works great. Now I can apply pressure when drawing and not worry about scratching the screen. Not too difficult to put on. It does cover the front camera, but since it's clear, I don't really notice a difference. I got the screen protector from Amazon in the US.

I find it a little strange to look through. My screen really lost on clarity, it is now all like covered with dust, a bit like through snow or something... definitely not the best experience with the FoliX. Maybe I need to get used to it, but I had a better experience (though no anti-glare) with glossy protectors on my smartphones back then.

Yes my one seemed like at first, but I seem not to notice it now. Also the feel when using finger input (swipes etc) is better.
The mate screen protector deteriorates the clarity of the screen slightly... It like a haze. For now, it's worth the sacrifice for protections sake. But self definitely keeping an eye out for more options in the future.
Hi,
i bought a screen protector for my 3D and the thing is, on whites, the image gets full of those pixel colors (green blue and red). It happens also on other colors but not so notorious.. 3 of these screen protectors cost about 3€ so they might be of not good quality.. any reference on any screen protector that will "respect" the colors and keep the screen quality? where can i buy them? ebay, amazon?
thanks in advance

Did you get a Matte/Anti-Glare screen protector? They are known to do that and its a drawback, but the positive is you get less glare.
Other wise get a crystal/clear protector, they will look just like the naked screen, with the same mirror reflection.
The zagg ones do that until they've dried or aged-----the one on my ipod was awful looking for a day or two until it just disappeared. If it was a applied with a liquid it might need to dry out a bit before it has its final look

Re: matte screens. I have the bodyguardz version and don't have that problem. If you look closely you will notice in white backgrounds. But not with other colors. I'm happy with it. Plus they offer free replacements.

It was the same with me in the beginning with the matte screen protector...but it seemed to have worn of lately with some use. I'm guessing the material on top of the screen protector isn't as sufficient as it was on day one

Quite a number available on eBay. Not sure if they are any good, as I don't use screen protectors myself.
Plenty. I'm using Momax and I found a light scratch on the screen protector only after a week. Glad that I have the screen protector installed. I think it gives you peace of mind especially when you do not use the folder type jacket that can protect the screen. I dislike the folder type and have only the PVC back jacket protecting the back and side. It's thin and make the device still holdable.
U can get the Skinomi screen protector from Amazon. Very high quality and is a wet aplication. Helps a lot to ensure it gets in position.

I saw that too. Do you recommend it?
It's a whole lot pricier than the Empire on Amazon.

Ah yes. Def can recommend it. I always struggle to apply screen protectors. Maybe im just clumsy dont know. But I love the ability of the Skinomi to be re positioned once applied. The moisture you see after the application disappears fully after about a day.
I had a Skinomi screen protector on my old Viewsonic g-tab (eww), and it was pretty slick. If you take the time to apply it per their instructions it will be virtually undetectable with no bubbles.

I dont use any wet apply screen protectors anymore after i tried them once and screwed my phone up - water got into the phone.
Dry ones: With careful application (there is a good video on youtube) the dry ones go on perfectly. And for the price you pay for them on ebay ie $3 buy a couple and if you screw one up have another go. Its really not that hard.
I got both a low priced matte and glossy screen protector (same OEM make). I don't recommend anyone use a matte SP. It gives a dotted rainbow effect to the screen, making it terrible for viewing the AMOLED+ screen.
The glossy one is OK. I'm competent at applying SP's so didn't have any issues with bubbles/dust. Can't notice the SP is there and viewing angles/brightness doesn't seem to be diminished at all.
Just got the Brando ones today.
They are excellent. Really great quality and super crystal clear. Cant even tell its on. They are a little pricey but well worth it I think.
Shipping from Hong Kong to NY took about 10 days.

I got the ADQC27.....perfect fit, and no rainbow effect.
Glossy....almost feels like the Tab's glass in terms of feel but fingerprint doesn't come off as easy as it is non oleophobic.
They ship REALLY FAST which is a huge plus........

SGP Steinheil Ultra Fine Anti-Fingerprint (Matte) LCD Protection Film
This stuff is incredible, can see my screen in full daylight when set to 10-20% brightness.
resists fingerprints VERY well, and wipes clean easily... definitely the best enhancement product available... will probably net some battery improvement as well... It says on the packaging enhances light output by 30%, I think that's an understatement... it feels exponentially brighter, even though I have it set to a lower brightness than usual (about 40%)...
and phone doesn't look like crap when the screen is off...
only thing I'm mad about is that I didn't have one on since day one!
Is this your first screen guard, or have you tried others and this one is that much better than previous ones you've had?
I'm pretty sure a piece of poly material does not have the ability to increase light output, that sounds like a placebo effect to me.

no sir, it's not my first, I've had (on my G2) InvisibleSHIELD, and Skinomi (very similar to InvisiShield), and on my Amaze, I had the one that came with my Trident Kraken AMS case, I also tried the glossy SGP Steinheil which was better than the trident one and easier to install, this is by far the best screen protector of them all... the invisi and skinomi on my G2 had that rubbery feel and rainbow effect, the first two I tried with the Amaze were almost impossible to see in full direct sunlight, the Steinheil (glossy) was a little nicer than the first one I used, but both made your phone look dirty and grungy when the screen was off showing every little finger smudge... this product is so far superior in ever way possible, that it's not even a contest... the only thing that could make it any better is if it cooked me bacon and eggs every morning!
P.s. in no way am I saying I've tried them all, but of all the ones I have tried this definitely the best yet... Also it would be better to say it makes the light 30% more effective at reaching its target (your eyes)... I guess it's something you have to experience. I will just finish by saying I removed the glossy steinheil and replaced it with this one immediately and the difference was night and day.

Took the suggestion...
Based on blast0id's glowing recommendation, I took the plunge and tried out the ultra expensive, matte ultra fine screen protector and I would have to agree, its a pretty nice protector.
It goes on easier than wet application protectors, its reasonably easy to re-position if you don't put it all the way down. There is a slight imperfection in the glue that is only noticeable with the screen off and at an angle.
I love the no glare!! It's not entirely without finger prints, but they are so much better than before. A big win for me is the feel when using swype. With the old glossy protector it was almost better if it was a bit dirty just so it was easier for my finger to move; with the matte finish, it just feels more comfortable with swype.
Again, its a matter of preference, but this is is the best of four screen protectors I've tried.

glad you guys are enjoying them, yeah the swiping with this protector is very nice, I use FlexT9 (because when not swyping, I use voice input and I prefer the dragon engine to any of the others available) and it's way better swiping on the matte than it was on any of the others, especially the rubbery ones like invisibleshield (which the name itself was misleading as it was far from invisible)
Thanks for the suggestion, will have to try this one out!

nice
I've been using mine for the last two weeks, and I far prefer it to the cheap glossy ones I'd used before. I clean fingerprints off a couple times a day now instead of every damn time I use the phone, and it really does improve the tactile experience of the phone.
One heads up. I first ordered it off Amazon from a third party vendor because they were cheaper than Amazon, but instead of the SGP product, they sent me 6 HTC clear protectors. I returned them and ordered direct from Amazon, and got my delayed, more expensive, but worth it, joy.
