Help : Slower performance - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

One more thing I would like to ask, now a days m feeling my phone has become a bit slower than the earlier, is there any way to make it as it was earlier (like formatting was the option in Nokia), even the RAM usage has increased to 400mb from 300mb
Plzz suggest me something

If you don't mind reinstalling everything wipe your phone.
If on stock user dial code to wipe.
If on custom user cwm to wipe.

There isn't Amy other way?

No I don't remember. But the slowness I am talking is general slowness, it isn't caused by any application

Slightly better. But this might be a ram issue. It doesn't happen when I'm fresh off a restart. Hmm.

Yep, that wasn't a fix, try to change your rom with another a let's see if this fix your issue.

There can be numerous things that is creating lag.rom, kernel apps,to many appswrong settings in kernel(oc,uv,script)this was a quick way to see if the issue disappear.
Are u on stock or costum rom.was it like this after flashing base rom or after u installed 3' party apps and I could go on.
Just flashing new firmware doesn't "fix" anything.locating the prob does

Then its probably an app u installed or to many.do u use a cache cleaner.I can easely clean 50-60 mb after a day of heavy browsing."easy cache cleaner" is free in store.
Or try uninstalling the latest apps u installed.
If u have cwm,try clean dalvik cache

Something strange happened tonight.. Now it seems slower

Hey everyone,
I have a unlocked O2 phone it seems, on Monday I tried rom'ing it to Jelly bean.. I found a decent rom from the Internet and went ahead with the firmware update. The firmware turned out to be the most basic of basic jelly bean builds... I couldn't even sign in with my Google account...? So I wanted to restore it.
I found another rom and rooted it first etc but after this one installed it kept looking the Samsung start up logo.. Looked up the symptoms and it seems a mild form of bricked. So I went into recover mode and did a data wipe and restore.
When it restored it booted up and now I had jelly beans with all my old settings and it even started to download my apps etc. Great I thought just what I wanted but I have no idea how it's done this.
Anyways... Been playing on it for about an hour now and it seems dead slow. I've cleared the cache and cleared all recent apps and I'm running at 86% ram capacity it seems. Is this normal when no apps are open? Opening my contacts seems to take a good second or two to open. It never did this on ics.
Any ideas anyone? I've attached a screen shot for illustration.
Thank you in advance.

That's what happens when we don't do FULL wipe. Search megawipe and use before flashing roms.

No.
Do not use megawipe, superwipe or bullish*t-stupidwipe.
They are not necessary, juts wipe cache, dalvik and system before flashing a ROM.
That is all.
@OP
Get rid of that damn monitoring app, don't use task killers or any other pointless apps.

Flash a current JB from XDA .

I've restored it back to standard firmware on jelly bean but it's still saying I'm using 687 / 833 ram. Is this normal? What do others on here have for there ram availability?

My phone shows 684/833MB RAM but it is very smooth. I let Android do the memory management in my phone. Don't bother myself with shutting down any apps or getting more 'Juice' out of my phone.
Running LJ4 version.

YEs, it is normal.
The motto with Android is that "unused RAM is wasted RAM"
The way Android manages RAM has nothing to do with how we are used to see RAM with PCs, since PCs don't cache apps that are not running.
In Android, the apps are cached so they are easier to access the next time you need them. This is specially useful for apps like Contacts, Dialer, etc. Remember that everything in Android is an application.
My phone yesterday had only 80Mb free and yet it was quite snappy, very responsive.
So, in short forget about RAM in Android devices. We gotta get rid of the old paradigm of how RAM works in a tradicional PC.
I want something that feels a bit quicker, can anyone recommend a nice rom that's like stock but lighter? My current model shown below...

I have the same symptoms with stock JB. I updated my G3 via Kies. Any ideas how to speed it up without wiping everything?
You can try Foxhound Rom Essentials Version which has a lot of things removed that aren't needed (Like S Voice, Samsung Apps, Bloatware etc). There's also Hyper Light rom (I think). Have a look in the rom section and look for roms that mention the word light.
I've got a awesome rom installed now... No Samsung crap.
Thanks for all the help peeps.

[XU] ICS .54 issues.

Hi all. Thanks to the people who helped me get ics. I am having some issues with the .54 version.
1. I have very low ram. Around 85 mb free. And the phone is slow.
2. Very bad battery life... It gets drained in one day...
3. Doodle Jump not compatible in play store...
4. Timescape does not refresh Facebook. I have reverted to factory version on ics. But still no luck.
PS: I haven't wiped data and and app logs while flashing .54 ftf. Bootloader locked. Not rooted...

Strangely I haven't got any bugs with .54 (except auto brightness) . As soon as I got my U, I've flashed ics with full erase. It's fast and reactive, RAM rarely goes under 115MB. I have to mention that I've rooted it and deleted a lot of bloatware, including timescape. I think timescape is a memory hog.

Have you tried clearing app data for the 2 apps? Also what about going back into recovery wipe cache dalvik cache and fix permissions?
I'm not sure what you mean about not having up stock recovery, to flash clean ROM you still need a custom recovery. Our maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're talking about

When I go into twrp I can't find my stock recovery its as if I was to excited the night I got my phone and forgot to make a back up of stock recovery unless vi have one and don't bknow how to locate when I go into twrp my only back up is cleanrom 3.5 I also noticed that there are a few features on my phone that are causing me the most battery drain its mostly location settings in partial wakelocks it is showing network location locator I lose about 15% battery life at night when my phone is alseep and the bulk of that seems to be from network location locator I don't even know how to tackle this issue I hear his saying the only losing about 2 to 3 % battery drain at night where as I lose 15% I mean that's not alot compared to other phones but it is if you think about it if my phone is in deep sleep I shouldn't be losing 10 to 15 % battery at night the only way to fix is if I turf of wifi at night when im at home do you even mess with that stuff or do you keep all of your stuff on when you go to sleep and when im on 4g lte I lose about a percent every 5 to 7 minutes with screen on and on wifi I lose about a percent every 10 to 12 minutes with screen on

Application Manager crashing everytime.

Hey folks.
My "Application Manager" keeps crashing everytime I open it. No error message, simply closes by itselft after about 5 seconds.
I can't tell what is causing this. I already wiped cache and dalvik, disabled some apps and cleared some space in internal memory. But nothing works.
I've flashed a new kernel (Speedmod) some days ago, but I'm almost sure that I've used application manager after that.
I've been playing with Clean Master and SD Maid, maybe this problem is related to these apps? I don't know.
I would appreciate some help and tips...

Must have another way...
You've obviously installed something recently or the data of something has changed and caused an incompatibility that's causing this.
If you're sure it worked after the kernel, there's not much you can do without a full wipe
Or restore the nandroid you took before flashing the kernel
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I'm afraid I'll disable each recent installed app until I find the culprit.
Just thinking about a full wipe and I'm already tired. Hehe

I got a recent nandroid backup here. There is an option in TB to restore apps from a nandroid backup. I was thinking about restore "Settings" system app. Is that safe to do? The Application Manager is related to settings app, right? I cannot find an app with that name.
Yes it will be the settings app, but its likely its not the settings app causing the problem.
My sound menu used to do the same thing. I did a wipe and restored everything in titanium one by one to find out what caused it. Guess what it was?
That's right "wallpaper settings"...
See what I mean?
