Hi everyone.....so does anyone know a way to remove those stupid stock apps that come with the prime?? and btw I'm NOT rooted.

You can 'disable' many of the stock apps with standard apps tool under ICS. To remove system apps you can't disable you need to be rooted.

If you are on .21 firmware it is not so easy to root.
1. you have to downgrade to .15 (see here). Beware this is not without risk please read the instructions very carefully.
2. root (see here) and protect the root status with 'OTA rootkeeper'.
3. update via OTA to .21 and restore root with OTA Rootkeeper.

Thanks for the answer but i disabled the apps from the settings like you said and everything is fine, thanks anyway.

Be aware if you uninstall stock application you may not be able to receive OTA updates!!
As in software updates???

try to Root the Tf201 with all of tools, like vipermodPrimeTimev4.5 (fail), UnlockRootv2.3 (fail), Sparkyroot (fail), TransformerPrimeIcsNew (fail)

Yeah man, that's bolex!! & you are out of luck.
I missed the OTA rootkeeper as well before I updated . No way yet to root 21, as far as yesterday midnight from what I remenber.
I did bring the unit back to the shop and exchanged it into the last showmodel ( still on HC)
Now it is updated and rooted.
Hopefully -vipervoy_ will find a new solution.

1. With Prime on .15 update (or earlier), get root
2. Install OTA rootkeeper
3. Upgrade to .21
4. Use OTA rootkeeper to get root back
This is the only way to have root on a stock .21 build.
If you upgrade to .21 before rooting and installing OTA rootkeeper, your cannot root (currently).

It's really simple, you must root before updating to .21, save your root with something like Voodoo RootKeeper, and then restore your root after updating. There is currently no way to do an original root on .21.

I just got an update for Superuser from Google Play, v3.1(42), released today. In the changelog, Temp Unroot and OTA survival options have been added. I think this might be useful for those of us who are rooted when getting the OTA update. I plan on trying it out.
I don't have a third party "root keeper" type application installed, is there any possibility that this is just as good?

Yeah, Superuser has to compete with SuperSu, that's why those new features are in there, SuperSu has them. And yes, OTA survival works better than Voodo Roor Keeper.

The OTA survival on SuperSu and Superuser are slightly better than Voodo, as they automate some processes of regaining root, but it's the same concept.

i didnt even bother to look at the change log, i should have, im glad it is built in so now i dont have to use a third party.
Has anyone tested this on their AT&T S3? I'm rooted with stock recovery.

I am actually wondering if this works as well. Would be nice to unroot, get the update and reroot without having to redo everything ie home screen settings etc

I can't speak to other devices, but for my Transformer Infinity and Droid 4, Superuser's OTA Survival did nothing for me, and Voodoo worked perfectly.
if you have superuser in the system\app directory then you cant use the unroot as it needs to be in the \data\app directory for it to work. I tried it with both sueruser and supersu and each would only unroot if the superuser app was in the \data\app directory... i would move it their then reboot and do that... or just use the droid razr utility which will make it all stock.... best way really.
Actually, after searching around more, I think my problem may have been that the means of using the ota survival in superuser is spectacularly un-obvious and un-intuitive and nearly un-documented. I just tested using Voodo's temp unroot and then superuser to restore root and that worked.
For anyone else that finds Superuser's method confusing:
1) Before any update that might un-root your device, check the "ota survival" box in superuser
2) After an update that un-roots your device, open superuser and *uncheck* the "ota survival" box. This will restore your root and, for reasons that flabbergast me, REMOVE the backup, so ...
3) After restoring root, re-check the "ota survival" box
Compare this to Voodoo:
1) Create backup of su when rooted
2) When un-rooted, click "Restore Root"
Repeat just #2 when you get the next OTA

How do you root again after a temp unroot? unchecking the temp unroot doesnt work.. it does something, but afterwards the temp unroot is still checked. Also a phone restart doesnt help. Anyone else have this issue? (I'm on motorola defy+ with quarx jelly bean cyanogenmod)

Title says it all. I understand it screws up the search function (but can be fixed with an APK reload, but will the OTA cause any other issues?

If you are rooted with a stock rom, you can not install the update because you are rooted. There are 2 ways to install the update 1) unroot your phone, accept the update, and reroot your phone or 2) flash a custom factory rom with the update already installed.
And yes the update does disable the universal search on your phone and not sure if there are any other issues.

Future ROMs will have the update, right? So, if we wanted to, we could just wait?
As the title says, I'm currently rooted and using the original .532 firmware.
What is the simplest way of upgrading to the latest update keeping root intact?
I'm able to update via wi-fi or over the air.
I read somewhere about rootkeeper?
Please could someone advise me on how to do this without wiping data and root.

A user claims to have updated ota without losing root only by using rootkeeper.
I don´t know, but that method is quick and easy.
You must have the bootloader unlocked, do not have recovery installed, only change the build.prop with rooy explorer (you can try without changing it), keep the root with rootkeeper and update with sony update center.
You can try it with your original 532, I think.
rooted and on original software (condensed from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502185). You do not need unlocked bootloader for this.
1. OTA Rootkeeper - install and protect root
2. Perform OTA to 257
3. Enjoy
If OTA fails
1. TiBu - make full backup of your apps & necessary system apps (wifi locations, SMS, etc)
2. FlashTool - Reinstall 532 FTF
3. Root (vRoot is suspect, but go ahead if you like living dangerously, we all do)
4. OTA Rootkeeper - install and protect root
5. Perform OTA to 257
6. Restore Apps via TiBu
7. Enjoy
* Of course, if you're doing it via OTA failure method, you should make sure all your app config files are exported out and saved (Nova, LightFlow, etc)

That's what I did last time but root was lost.
I may skip the update and wait for Kitkat 4.4 and root.
I noticed no difference or improvement whatsoever when I had 257.

If I root this phone (don't intend to unlock bootloader), however:
Will OTA stop working? (because of modification)
Will doing an OTA update on rooted phone remove root?
If so, is it possible to preserve root while doing an OTA?
Will removing all traces of root be as easy as SU uninstall?
With some phones, the OTA will be broken after rooting and some it will not. This is my first Sony and I wanted to confirm if this was also the case.

Thanks so much for your clear and concise responses. Previously I've never been concerned about the unrooting of a phone or access to OTA. I just got so comfortable working with Samsung that I feel a bit out of my depth at the moment with the Z2.

On my phone OTA won't work on rooted device. Firmware downloads fine but it fails verification when trying to install.

I can understand, I am also coming from SamsungS4. this is my first sony phone.But trust me sony has lot less hassles compared to Samsung Knox Bull****

So, we can just click unroot in supersu, not have to flash FTF using FlashTool ? After this method of unroot can we safely do ota ?
