I rooted my phone using Revolutionary about a month ago and have had no issues until now. It appears to be wanting to install an update. I don't know if it's the OTA update but I didn't tell it to update (and it didn't say I had a new OTA update).
Here is what happens.
Start up phone, loads fine. Starts loading widgets and home screen.
Get about 30 seconds of semi-function while stuff is loading.
Phone display's "Powering down" message.
Boots into clockworkmod recovery, shows error, press menu and see the error log
Code:
ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.1
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
If I reboot, it does the same thing. Any thoughts? I've searched around but haven't seen anything and since revolutionary is fairly new (no OTA updates since?) I thought this might be a new problem.
A new ota went out yesterday. If you are running a stock rooted ROM there is a chance that it is still will Ty to update itself if he dev didn't disable that function. Try downloading and flashing the latest stock ruu and see if that helps.

I should have added that I did not flash any rom. I only used revolutionary to acquire root access.
Hat would be stock root. You received the ota then. What you need to do is flash cwm in fastboot and try wiping everything. DO NOT WIPE DATA. Just coear caches.

Flash the disable zip through recovery and wipe cache and it should solve the issue.

Received 2.3.6 OTA on my nexus s which was unlocked and rooted but on stock recovery (init script was not modified so recovery restored).
On reboot triangle with exclamation inside was shown (been there for 30 minutes now).
Any tips? Should I switch on/off and see what happens? Pull battery?
Sounds like you're in stock recovery mode. Just reboot and see what happens (it should boot normally).
Had to pull battery to get it to reboot.
A few days later I've received another OTA update, and the exact same thing happened again. Also had to pull battery.
Is there anything I need to do in order to receive OTA updates while rooted but on stock recovery?
That happens automatically. What I would suggest, is that you install the update manually. See here: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...or-nexus-s-available-wi-fi-and-tethering-fix/ .
Thanks; instructions mention it should not be done on rooted devices. Is that correct? (I'm on stock recovery, but rooted)

See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056062 . Remember, you will lose root if you do this. You would need to re-root to get it back.
Tried manually by downloading both the update GRJ22 (2.3.4) - > GRK39F (2.3.6) and the full GRK39F.
In both cases, from CW recovery I get a signature error. Log shows:
Verifying update package...
I:comment is 1604 bytes; signature 1586 bytes from end
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
I:verify_file returned 1
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Any clues?
Ever since I flashed the VillanRom... whenever I reboot into ClockwordMod Recovery.. it shows me an android with an exclamation point. It then says...
ClockworldMod Recovery v4.0.0.2
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whoe-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Why does it say that when I didn't even try to install anything?
Why don't you try format a custom kernel with another version of CWM recovery.
Try either Ninphetamine, Siyah or Void kernels.
i just changed to the niphetamine.... thats when i got probs... im switching to the phenomenal
Do you have superuser installed? From my early days of rooting I think flashing CWM is root dependant
Sent from outer space by aliens on tapatalk using SGS2
yes. I have super user intstalled.. or I couldn't get into CMW... anyways I flashed a new kernel.... still having the same problem
I found my problem.. I wasn't doing it the 3-button method way... ;p
Meh. Can 't beef hooked.
Hello,
I have already asked this in the CM10 SGS3 discussion but could not get any help there, so I assumed this will get more attention.
Recently, I tried updating CM10 using CM Updater but CWM failed to update, complaining about signature verification of the update package. The full error was: E:signature verification failed.
Has anyone encountered this error before? If so, how can I fix this? And also - could have been any harm done due to failing signature verification on CWM?
Thanks!

Not on CM, so, never encountered this error before but...does this happen every time you try and update?

Are you sure you have CWM installed? A signature verification error in this case could result in of two possible things: either you have incompatible recovery (i.e. stock) installed or it is a bad/corrupted download. No harm was done, since failing to verify signature just does not let the zip to install.
@Oomahey, I tried this just once since I was not sure about the exact outcome of this.
@hsrars-d, Yes, I have CWM v5.4, I am not making any confusions, it says that right in the title on recovery
I'll try updating this one more time and get back to you.
Thank you for your time!
I had this yesterday on a note 2 and realised it didn't have cwm recovery installed. When I installed that worked perfectly

Have not tried it yet but is it possible that my CWM version is old enough not to be compatible? It is version v5.4 (dot something-something)
Also, could CM Updater be using a different software on recovery even though when booting into recovery it explicitly says "Clockworkmod"? It does not make much sense to me.
Sorry for double-posting but I had to update that I have tried flashing it again, with the nightly build of 23/11 and it failed again. (after toggling signature verification on "apply new update" and using CM Updater again to update firmware)
Any suggestions?
Well, i have CWM Touch as my recovery, u could try to flash that and then update

Install Rom Manager from market than install latest Clockworkmod recovery for i9300 and that should work , you have an wold recovery
The CM Updater has never work for me, ever.
I'm running the latest version of CWM (v6.0.1.2) and when I try to update via CM Updater I get the following:
Code:
-- Installing package…Finding update package…
Opening update package…
Verifying update package…
e:failed to open /sdcard/cmupdater/cm-10-20121124-NIGHTLY-i9300.zip (No such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I can also say that if I manually go to "install zip from sdcard" and then select to access the internal sdcard I get the same error
Code:
e:can't mount /sdcard/
Browsing the external sdcard is no problem, only the internal.
I should also mention that my phone is encrypted, if that is the reason to why I can't access the internal sdcard in CWM, I don't know.
The encryption is the problem.

Is upgrading CWM different from replacing it with the stock recovery? Since, as I previously mentioned, I already have CWM installed and am just interested in upgrading it.
I am bumping this since it is still relevant. I am about to upgrade CWM and was thinking of doing this with ROM Manager (rather than heimdall/ODIN). Is it possible doing this from ROM Manager? Is it also more reliable than heimdall/ODIN in the context of bricking your phone?
Hi, I was running CM11 for xt910 and was planning to return to stock.
It wouldn't work via bootmenu manager. it would give the following error:
Installing: /sdcard/0/update.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Warning no file_contextsVerifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/bin/app_process", "76c3a9a7a6d400a9ff3e4db391327daa33aa0663", "2a221441bf06f2618aa6c35ae0cade13bd4f6e1b")
E:Error in /sdcard/0/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
or something similar.
So I attempted flashing via RSD lite, after temporary unrooting via voodoo root manager.
It says successfully installed, but at the rebooting process it hangs. (or is it usual that first startup takes over 5-10 minutes and recovery mode gives an android with a red triangled exclamation, not enabling me to do any of the actions?).
So my only chance is to fix this with fastboot. what should I do?

CM11? Are you sure?
If you have the SBF Fastboot file, located Here, RSDLite under AP Fastboot, and start from scratch!
I've never used BMM, I'm a Safestrap advocate (since it's all I've used). It will retain Stock (as long as you don't overwrite it), and then all you have to do, if you encounter a really glitchy rom, is wipe that Romslot (partition), and recreate/reinstall whatever you want.
I hope I was of SOME assistance.

Hi
I am trying to install CM13 to my P9000
I have installed CM recovery using SP Tools booted into it and done all the wipes. I am now at the point where I coose the rom from the SD card, but every time I try it says ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E : signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I have tried downloading the ROM a few times now. what am I doing wrong?
Hmm
Now things have taken a turn for the worse, I cant coax anything out of the phone. It stays dead, no holding power and vol up makes it come on.
If I connect it with SP Flash, SP Flash thinks it is downloading to the phone.
Help
Flash TWRP and then install CM13.
What ROM currently installed on your P9000?
It should be 20160810
