I got this response from @htcusa yesterday:
We're still working to see which devices are suitable for the upgrade. Check out our latest note here: http://t.co/SSnjbd5N -- HTC USA (@HTCUSA)
..your customer rep and my Twitter rep probably even themselves out. So I wouldn't hold my breath...
Customer service reps need to stfu. They know as much as we do and as soon as they open their mouth and state rumored information as fact next thing you know it's all over the Internet giving false hope to those eagerly waiting and hoping.

Forget HTC and support dexter's work as much as you can!

Oh, it's capable, but that doesn't mean HTC is going to waste any time on it.
If it comes, it will be via independent developers.
I find it hard to believe they will be putting out an update for a device over 18 months after release. If they do, we would of already had several nicely working ICS builds in our development section

As a former Captivate owner, we didn't get a gingerbread update till January but leaked betas for an official Captivate AT&T branded update started leaking out in June of last year. Even the Flyers HC rom leaked out early. We have nothing for ICS, developer's are running blind on it, and by now we should have some sort of leak if we were getting it.

Though I am having hc since the days I bought my HTC flyer 6 months ago, HTC has released hc in India just yesterday. Even HC was released way too late worldwide as well and even leaks didn't occur too early.
Tablets with one by third the hardware of HTC flyer are coming with ICS currently.
But, I, personally won't wait for it.
I have firm belief in developers here. Just a matter of few days and a few donations to keep them motivated, and we will have ICS soon.

I have my hopes for jellybean now icescream is or will be obsolete by the time we have it officially if we ever do with jellybean around the corner I would say the hardware requirement for it have not been confirmed yet though.
If Google releases jelly bean before November I'll be disappointed. Personally they should just stick with ics and continue to tweak it for a couple years but I know that won't happen.

HTC did the same when promising the HC upgrade. They used a Twitter account to make that statement.
Now, half a year later, and without Honeycomb, the support department states "Yeah, but that was only a Twitter statement, not a real promise..."
Draw your own conclusions.
Yep, really dissapointing. HC was announced to be ready short after the Flyer is available. So far nothing at all. Now ICS is in the pipe...and the story begins again...that's boring and customer unfriendly. Instead of realeasing one device after another would be good to see some customer care from HTC.
It would be very interesting to see if we get any update to whatever at all on the Flyer.

Even though there is no solid proof we'll most likely get it. HTC has always been good with updates and most HTC devices should get ICS. You may say "ohhhhh THEY DID NOT GIVE US HC!!!" However there is obvious proof they were trying and ICS should be easier since it's meant for both Tablets and Phones.

The fact that the Jetstream is not on the list either gives me some hope as well. Surely their first HC tablet is capable of the ICS upgrade, so my feeling is they are not addressing tablets with the phones. Anyway, here's to hoping they both ge teh good news soon...

Also, this should give you a glimpse of the chaos ICS updates will cause.
Announcement recently by Motorola (purchased by Google) VP of Software Development Ruth Hennigar, saying "that it hasn't even gotten the source code of Android Ice Cream Sandwich yet, let alone started to do something with it. It will be up to six months, she said, before ICS becomes widely available on devices".

Sprint will begin to rollout Google's latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, to our customers in early 2012. Ice Cream Sandwich will be available via an over-the-air update to a variety of devices including HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and other key products in our line-up. Stay tuned for more details and exact timing.

While I'd like to have it then, I highly doubt they will have it out that quickly to us evo3d owners. Took them almost 6mo to push out GB to the evo4g given you prolly could add a month or so of delay associated with the evo3d release then bc it'd be dumb to update the evo4g then release the 3D shortly after...
Just find it odd they say early next yr which would Indicate before April in my book, really b4 march ends. Now begs the question how they couldn't get GB out on evo4g by March this yr either....

Seems like I had a fully working Sense based GB rom on my Evo 2 months before it officially released. April maybe?
I'm looking forward to the leaks .vs the official build which will be 1/2 way old by the time it really launches.
What will suck is being stuck on the leaked stock ICS/Sense kernel for what will feel like forever.
at least we know were getting it. you wan't htc/sprint to "get off their asses"? how bout you go out and make a near perfectly working product for the masses and figure out how to deliver it effectively then. hmmm?
Well, we can always hope!
It seems that in the past we never really new when until it said "you have an update" on your phone. A lot of rumors and a lot of speculation.
I am hoping that article is correct. I am envisioning a December 19th or 26th update. Merry Xmas from us to you kind of thing.
I think that our chances of getting a update soon are strong. With the last major Android that Sprint released being in September(Epic Touch on Sept. 16th). Other carriers are releasing some big phones. Verizon has Nexus Galaxy and Razor(Mid November), At&T with the Vivid and Skyrocket(Nov 6th), and T-mobile with the Amaze.
Some of these phones might not be "better" but they are all newer.
Evo is Sprint's flagship phone. These are all just my opinions. But, we will know for sure pretty soon. Sprint is going to have to do something for the xmas shoppers. We will see what that is.
I have a reliable inside source at the campus....
It kinda makes me wonder about when ICS will drop. Seems pretty random to send an email asking you to check for updates. Makes me hopeful...but still doubtful as to when.
Are you running 2.3.3? Maybe that's why they sent you that
Edit: obviously you're not lol

Right, that's kind of how I took it. I usually get these emails for 3 different devices. My 3d, daughters OG and my wife's BB. The only time I recall seeing one stating to check for system update, was when one was available, for my wife's BB. Just got me hopeful was all.
Edit-one other thing just came to mind. I have the feeling it may be important to run ICS with some of the newer firmware updates from 2.17. So perhaps this is another way to prep people (general public) to update, prior to Sprint pushing out ICS in a few months?

I'd like to think that too, but I seriously doubt it. Why would Sprint want to release an update to ICS for last year's phone right before they release this year's phones? It doesn't make business sense. When they release next year's phones, sprint stores will get a lot more traffic in and out of them, and the 3D can't be catching people's eyes still because it's on the cutting edge, it has to appear outdated, at least while sprint is dealing with the new phone rush.
When I bought my 3D, the epic 4g touch was out for about a month or two. The employee who "helped" me pick out a phone was straight up lying to me (maybe she really just had no clue, but then why was she employed at a sprint store?). I was told that the 3D was a slow, outdated, single core phone, 1 ghz processor, and she overexaggerated the epic touch's specs as well. Glad I did my research because she was worthless.
I'm not gonna jump on the nexus and one bandwagon quite yet, this phone is plenty powerful for me right now.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here but does anyone have any solid evidence from Sprint that this device is actually going to see ics? I know HTC said June July but that is probably their gsm handsets. Leak Version from May...and now its june 18....HTC/SPRINT/others...put it in ota!!
The reason it was canceled is because the Ice Cream Sandwich melted while being transferred from HTC to Sprint. To salvage what it could, Sprint stuck it in a glass and mixed it up so now we are all getting an altered version called "Milkshake". You know, according to my source.
When they depelete enough stock of 3d they'll release it.. I'm sure well see a price drop soon on the 3d.

Sense 5 will be available on older models. HTC has confirmed the information via his Facebook page. For the moment no "roadmap" official has been issued, only a small non-exhaustive list is available.
"HTC will be offering upgrades to some of its existing devices in the coming months, including variants of HTC One X One X +, One S & HTC Butterfly. However, note that certain features of the new HTC One will not be available in software updates for hardware compatibility reasons ".
The Droid DNA isn't on this list of 4 smartphones, but if the Butterfly will get the update, so it wouldn't be for technical reasons if the Droid DNA wouldn't get it...Normally it will also...

The word variants kind of confirms the DNA. I don't understand why such doubt? Don't say because of the thunderbolt or this phone or that phone didn't get anything. All we can do is wait. We bought the phone for what it had, not for what it might get. I'm happy either way.

I thank that's a Galaxy S IV exclusive.
This is the reason I left HTC to begin with... The promising of updates that never happen... Verizon shares some of the blame for the delays, but ultimately it's up to HTC to deliver quality builds to the carriers.. While on the Incredible 2 and waiting for ICS, HTC delivered a build to Verizon that was so buggy that even Verizon said "no".... But now I'm back and hope this doesn't happen again..

Timely updates are not one of HTC's virtues. But their phones are the best. You might be disappointed again with updates, most likely. But look at the phone you are holding. What is better?

I love how you're comparing the new and revised business plan with the Inc2.......this is 100% on verizon, not HTC. I suppose people also think that the 4.1 and 4.2 updates were delivered to Verizon "buggy" from google for the Galaxy Nexus? or JB update for S3? or many many others that were released worldwide and on other carriers a good 2-6 months before big red? lolz....

ok.... That was a few seconds I won't get back... The first ICS build sent to Verizon was buggy... Embarrassingly buggy for HTC... There was major connection issues among other things... If Sense 5 arrives and in good time then that's great, I'm just not getting my hopes up and rely on my software updates from our awesome developers...

Precisely why I look at the possible dev community rather than what I think the carrier will offer down the road when I purchase a phone. I bought the DNA in full confidence that there would be many great devs supporting it, and I was right. Really enjoying my phone so far.
As for my friend, he bought an LG Spectrum even though he knew I was pretty knowledgeable and could have given him better suggestions. Now he's begging me to root it for him... but for what, there's no development for it at all lol.
I personally bought the DNA over butterfly because of the bigger dev community. Ill never understand why be at xda and wait on carriers.

you might want to go check over on android forums. There is plenty of development. In fact, AOKP and CM 10.1 both are nearing official support thanks to the devs over there. The Spec was a great phone while I had it.

I looked quite a few times and even by the time I bought my DNA, they still didn't have anything concrete. Just took a look too and this all looks like recent dev for it. Agreed though, the specs did look good, but LG messed it up pretty bad.
Either way, good to see that it's finally getting some attention and I can offer him some relief when we see each other in a few months - hopefully they have a stable CM10.1 by then

LG devices are notorious for their poor development. They're usually budget phones (with the Optimus line being an obvious exception).
HTC confirmed via their Facebook page to my question about ICS on the Thunderbolt that it was "coming soon" back in June of 2012. When did it arrive? December? Better late than never I suppose but I wouldn't hold your breath...
