I have my Droid X2 rooted and I have never tried to flash roms. Can anyone please give me a detailed layout on how to go about flasing roms? Prefered Roms that you like to use would be helpful.

Hi I'm new to all this and tried searching and this thread was the closest thing I could find. I just recently rooted my x2 and OTA updated to 2.3.5. I was wondering how I can install the cm9 a5 on my droid? thanks for the help
CM9 is pretty good to if you want ICS on your DX2. I was using it on my X and loved it. Then my X crapped on me by the ear piece speaker going dead and Verizon is sending me a X2 for replacement. Will be putting CM9 on my X2 when it arrives.

Eclipse is probably the best problem-free ROM right now. Very good and very stable. I personally like CM7 the best because of the level of customizations it includes. You have a lot more control and settings readily available to you. CM7 does have a bit of a Wi-Fi bug that makes it less than perfect but I still prefer it over Eclipse. Some would say CM9-A5 is good enough as a daily driver but for me battery life and multiple random reboots keep me from using it as a daily driver.
I was on eclipse for about a week then I decided to switch over to cm7.2. I'll never go back to eclipse. I found that I still had a lack of memory comparable to stock. Once I switched to cm7, I have a lot more ram available and it runs smoother. I've only noticed the wifi issue and a few app fc every once in a while. A quick reboot fixes the app fc. Reboot is literally less than a minute. Also, love the customization with cm7.

I used cm7.2 rc 1&2. I used cm 9 & 10. I went back to eclipse because of stability and added adw launcher to make a fake 4.1+ aosp face on it. flash and dolphin browser seem to work better and Netflix works as well. just my experience have fun with all the flashing!

I have found that I don't really miss flash being on cm7. I tried cm10 a2 but there were too many bugs and it was slow. Eclipse with adw used too much of my ram and wasn't as smooth. Any hints on how to make eclipse run smoother and not use as much ram? I do love adw ex using eclipse more than the adw launcher on cm7 because there are more options with it being a newer version.

Maybe Eclipse with a combo of Holo launcher and V6 Supercharger. Works great for me.

the launcher 2 that comes with eclipse uses the same amount of ram. varying by 1 or 2. just saying. i use the new adw with elcipse and i have no lag. i also dont really use widgets and such though, as our phone cant really handle it.

also, just to metion, on CM7 , superuser will either stop working randomly in the middle of tasks, or just not work to begin with. i found this frustrating enough to just stick with eclipse. eclipse leaves everything functioning. and has themed swype! the old 3.26 ! just sayin.

I am brand new to the flashing game. Gave up a night's sleep a couple of nights ago because I was frustrated with my X2 and will have it for another year.
I just went strait for CM10 for daily use. I am finding it adequate but buggy.
What I LOVE is the way the contacts work now. I am a heavy group texter for volunteer groups and work. I find the contact interface worth the work around for FB and GoogleNow and loss of NetFlix.
I was wondering if I flashed to eclipse or CM7 is their an app or way to use my contacts with the same that comes with JB? Is there a way to save the format of my contacts from CM10?
It will take me a while to sbf stock and flash to Eclipse or CM7, lol.

With installed ADW Launcher EX:
This build is for Viewsonic Viewpad 7. I’ve made this build mainly because I had one big problem with stock one – it was offering little space for my apps. I've used this opportunity to add extra features and remove some annoying ones. Here is the list of changes:
based on latest official stock Viewpad 7 firmware Android 2.2.2
added Darktremor Apps2SD 2.7.5.2 functionality (require that you have extra partition on your SD card for storing your apps; exact procedure to create one is described in installation procedure)
fully deodexed and zipalligned ROM
ROM is rooted (Superuser.apk + su)
installed BusyBox with support for init.d scripts
replaced "Welcome" boot animation with stock android 2.2 animation
installed Gingerbread keyboard
installed Morelocale2 for more languages
modified framework-res.apk and services.jar with Gingerbread look like + % battery
removed Aldiko,RSS, TouchPAL_M20
updated gapps to newest version (Gmail, GoogleQuickSearchBox, Maps, Market, VoiceSearch) & YouTube
modified host file for ad-free
Now you don’t have to worry about decreasing internal storage when you install more application. You don’t also lose access to application when you phone is connected in drive mode to computer, because application data is being hold on ext3 partition on SD card. That partition isn’t mounted when your phone is connected to computer. The things that are redirected to this partition are: /data/app, /data/app-private and /data/dalvik-cache. Firmware should also work with compatible devices such as: Cherry Mobile Superion, Commtiva Linx N700, Olivepad VT-100, Spice MI700, and Camangi FM600 but I don't have these devices, so I cannot verify. As always make a backup before installing any custom firmwares.
Requirements:
installed Clockwork Recovery Partition as described here [TOOL] Viewpad 7 Backup, Root & Recovery
Changelog:
V1.0
initial release
Installation:
Power down your device.
Power on device holding power button and both volume keys simultaneously.
Upon power up you will see the birds logo and 'enter recovery' text in the top left corner of the screen.
Use the volume keys to step through the menu, power to select and back. (there is bug in clockwork when you press volume keys it jumps 2 steps; to jump one step press and hold volume and then press power to select)
Select the "advanced->Partition SD Card" item, next select size for your Apps2SD partition (1024MB recommended), next select 0 as size of swap partition. (Remember that this will delete all data on your SD card, so make backup of SD card if you need !!!)
After the partitioning will be done select the "reboot system now" item.
Using USB cable connection or SD card reader copy CleanViewpad7_signed_v1.0.zip to root folder of SD card.
Power down your device.
Power on device holding power button and both volume keys simultaneously.
Select the "backup and restore->Backup" item to make a backup of the current firmware in case something goes wrong. The backed up ROM should be located in: /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/date&time/
Select the "wipe data/factory reset->Yes – delete all user data” to clear old stuff.
Select the "install zip from sdcard->choose zip from sdcard" item and select CleanViewpad7_signed_v1.0.zip.
After flashing will be done select the "reboot system now" item. First boot may take a few minutes.
Migrate from stock or another build:
Make backup of your phone using Titanium Backup (select all user applications).
Copy all files and folders from SD card to local folder on your computer.
Install Clockwork Recovery Partition, create partition on SD card and install ROM as described in installation guide.
Copy all files and folders from local folder on your computer back to SD card.
Restore applications using Titanium Backup and reboot your phone.

Nice work bro.although it would be better to use the latest a2sd version of darktremor(2.7.5.3)
which supports ext4 partition and data2sd feature.so instead of adding a2sd 2.7.5.2 you can provide a link to the flashable zip of the latest DT-a2sd (http://www.darktremor.info/files/a2sd/dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip). it works i have tested it.

yes i have it rooted. what i had to do was boot the stock rom boot.img with this rom. working great right now.
I followed the directions in the first post and then downloaded the file from post#2.
Once you have the file from post #2 on your SD card, rename it to update.zip and then boot your device into Clockwork Recovery and select the "update from zip" option. Rebooted and my device now has 167MB of available space on the internal phone storage.
Thanks guys... this is the way the device should have shipped from Viewsonic, and although it aint no Gingerbread, I'm finally happy with my Viewpad after several months if dissapointment.
One thing that I find to be very strange is that it appears that some data is saved somewhere?
Even after I performed the following:
Formatting the SD Card
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Wipe dalvik cache
Load the new ROM
Did not log into any kind of google account and basically skipped all the setup options.
The device still shows all the wireless hotspot data that I logged into before. Why does it have the password for my WiFi router after all those steps were performed.
If I were to sell the device to someone else, is there any way to be sure ALL data has been cleared from the device?
Cheers!
Great work, good to see another ROM for the Viewpad!!!
Will for sure try it...
A few questions:
You are using the a2sd version of darktremor(2.7.5.3), I personally use Link2SD which also moves all data, cache,... to the 2nd partition of the SD card...
It's actively developed and it's free, so check it out...
Is this ROM with the kernel from tj-style? Then we can overclock to 824Mhz and it gives a nice speed boost...
If then you do not want to use it for your ROM, you can set it to the stock speed with SetCPU...
Thanks,
Nick
Since many people are requesting for TJstyle's oc'd kernel.I modified this ROM to add the kernel and some other stuff.

Crysis Battery Mod
For ICScrewD, ShoStock, UnNamed, and CM7Hey everyone,
I recently made this for my phone, and thought it would be a good idea to share this with everyone. This is the Crysis battery mod, I just made this work with icscrewed rom. This works with the blue, and green editions. This is cwm flashable.
EDIT:
I have realized that i did this all wrong. The charging animations were off because this was the wrong pictures. I have gone to the kitchen and made this both again. The charging animation now works like it should. Sorry. I guess this happens when this is your first try.
EDIT again :
I made a new battery icons that go really well with the blue edition. Link for download below.
Due to request, made the crysis mod to work with shostock and cm7. Battery is the same as the icscrewd pictures, down below.
CM7 battery is now working. To apply, go to theme chooser, and then select uot kitchen as your theme.
Thanks for your patience.
Installation Instructions:
Download right file for your rom
Nandroid backup (just in case
flash
reboot
go to theme settings and choose uot kitchenDue to request, I have made a version of this for UnNamed. Download below. If you would like this on the rom you are on, just ask.
And another one!
This is a big battery for UnNamed, something different. Screenshots and download below
New battery for UnNamed. Same as first screenshot.

Oh, I'm not really sure what to do then. Are you using a custom theme for cm, because I noticed that under the options, and also your using the nightly version right? Because that is what I downloaded. I will try to fix this when I get back from school.
If I had money, I would get a credit card. If I had a credit card, I would donate.
yeah its the latest nightly and no custom theme used. will wait for the fix. thanks!
Yes, same here. I am on the latest nightly (actually Vanilla nightly from Sam3000) and siyah 2.6.9. When I flash the battery mod my rig goes into a bootloop. Tried a bunch of things including wiping the cache etc. but still going into a bootloop at the CM7 start animation. Any ideas? Love to have this and thanks for trying!

I downloaded this, flashed it, and flashed my battery mod. I was not able to replicate the boot loop, however, i made a cwm flashable zip with the two apps that i changed in the battery mod. Download this, and go into cwm, then to mountst and storage. Select mount usb storage, and copy the zip into your phones sd card. I havent tried this, but then select reboot, and let the phone loop a couple of times. Then pull out the battery and go to cwm and flash the zip. I'm sorry that this happened, but i can't do much more than this, because i cant replicate this issue.
Hope This helps

You can download it to either sd card. If you can't get into cwm, then download the fix file, and extract it. Then use adb push to send the two files there into your phone. SystemUI.apk goes into /system/app, and framework-res into /system/framework.
If I had money, I would get a credit card. If I had a credit card, I would donate.

2.3.5/413 phone info:
The "Nandroid port" is my term for a CWR restore of a system (wiped means all-3 and leaves nothing but system) from another phone. This is not usually possible but the only thing distinguishing these two are "Star Wars" & $$!
Hell the Mx2 could even get ICS.
This is Easy as pie, just like restoring your last Back Up!
If you are on 2.3.4 you will need to update to 2.3.5/413.
If on 235/412 is ok, some minor issues and no wifi.
You need to be on 235/413. Which gives kernel... 00008.., for everything to work.
YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GET BACK TO CWR BECAUSE OF ReRecovery!!!
As long as you are aware that the wiped nandroid is bootstrap-less and flash ReRecovery before you reboot system.
I must digress here for Noobs: (BSR = CWR)
You do not have run "MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk" aka "System Recovery" in your app drawer to get to BootStrapRecovery! Once you choose recovery mode and the phone goes to CWR thereafter the phone will always go to BSR when you plug-in and power off. If this is news to you try it right now. More news: while you are in BSR unplug the charger & pull the battery, put the battery back and plug-in. CWR will boot. ReRecovery sets up the same conditions (files and stuff) that you just tested to take your phone into BSR. With ReRecovery you have no choice, power off OR a battery pull along with plugging-in Boots BSR. BUT ReRecovery is flashed from BSR so you can refresh BSR anytime! Like after a Data wipe which kills BSR OR after a ROM flash which kills BSR OR after restoring a wiped Nandroid which also kills BSR. Sorry for the long rant but that is life with a locked bootloader.

ReRecovery thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426062
This is the process condensed:
It is an "out of the box" Stock backup folder. Backup your current system before anything. Kernel upgrade path is: sbf the 234 leak > do the 235/413 OTA. Run VooDoo before and after the OTA. Restore the mx2 BU. Wipe all 3. Flash ReRecovery. Reboot. Install super user to gain root.
Zurgrush will root 2.3.5/412 but not /413 so for our port we need VooDoo.
Zurgrush requires a computer. VooDoo does not.

First get the latest VooDoo. Old VooDoo is not good. (really I had problems on v1) http://androiddev.orkitra.com/download/apps/?appid=-2821155941944302146
How to use VooDoo Root Keeper before you apply the an OTA update: ( "VooDoo" )
Run VooDoo Root Keeper and choose protect root so all the boxes BECOME checked (see note).
Note :if all the boxes are ALREADY checked you may have saved SU with an older version of VooDoo. Run VooDoo and choose delete SU BackUp (do not unroot) then uninstall VooDoo.apk then install the latest VooDoo and get all the boxes checked
How to get to 2.3.5/413 Blur (kernel 00008)
Update: use the 2.3.5/418 for a slightly advanced kernel & a radio/baseband to better match the mx2.
Nand port with 2.3.5/418 phone info:
All instructions are the same for both the above.
Stock Mx2 phone info:
If on the Leaked 234: Nandroid to your 100% stock BU then "VooDoo" and apply the OTA.
If on 235/412 (there is no direct path to 413) OR you have no 100% stock BU : SBF to 234 (leaked), Root with Pete's, "VooDoo" and apply the OTA.
After the Update run VooDoo and restore root.

Mx2 Nandroid downloads and updates are at end of post.
I use Root Explorer to Extract the MX2Nandroid236.zip. Use no spaces if you rename a Nandroid. Put it in your normal /clockworkmod/backup folder .
Restore it from cwr then wipe all 3 (data, cache & dalvik) and flashed ReRecovery.dx2.zip then "reboot system now".
If you activate or do a factory reset be sure to choose Setup first rather than Sony Home.
Tap quickly on the android to get around activation if you like. If you are in landscape mode when trying to accept the Moto user agreement you may miss the hidden check box. *228 works and Backup Assistant not there to bother you.
You will need to install Super User to gain root after the nand' restore.

Newest update:
All updates are Deodexed & based on the 1st deodexed.
With the newest beta I no longer have the semi random reboot while waking after charging.
I have less issues with the beta than the original.
This is my daily driver. It is very good.
Updated nandroid: Beta Atrix/Mx2 system apps. Moto Phone Portal and other extras in addition to all of the pervious version. This ver has SE Home only, Blur Home has been removed.
I put this as a beta BUT I have few problems with it.

With the following "2 home" nands- the older beta & Deodexed - you may have problems if you don't delete the unused home. "Moto home fix" is what you need to access the blur home btw & clear its defaults to get se home back. All the various home choosers do not work.
You want to keep one sys home always so "safe boot" works. It's like a temporary data wipe for apps only.
For system/app(Home apk's), after you are sure of the one you want to keep, just add ".bak" to the one you don't want. You may get a Forced Close but a "battery pull" reboot will fix it.
Updated nandroid: Beta Atrix/Mx2 system apps. Moto Phone Portal and other extras in addition to all of the pervious version. This ver has BOTH SE home & Blur Home.

Skwoodwiva so is this a stock 2.3.6 nano for the dx2?
Yes fully bloated! But Pure Moto bloat not Verizon!
Will this give developers more options to build roms on this as a base? Thanks for putting this together. Would love to try but after running custom roms for so long stock is painfully for me
I am sure, if no problems are found, this would be equivalent to a real 236.

Hey I am just providing it for those that want to RESTORE IT. YOU can just restore it while on your present kernel - 234 leak (which I have not tried) you get no wifi and m aybe a lot of FCs but it should run. If on 235/412 it works well but no wifi.
EDIT
You know, I did not think I had to say THIS: Make nandriod backup of your present rom (= system & data) before you restore this Mx2 backup!

What is this?
This is a simple android application, which makes the most common features available in android, without having to reboot manually to recovery. (Not ALL features!)
Latest release: 0.4 - 2012-04-22
Changelog
0.4 - 2012-04-22 (Download)
- added reboot to download mode option (i717 only)
- added backup scheduling, including optional confirm dialog to cancel in the last 10 seconds
0.3 - 2012-04-19 (Download)
- added reboot recovery option (if you don't have it in the shutdown menu)
- bugfix: non i717 devices should now be able to install zips
0.2 - 2012-04-18 (Download)
- added "menu" infront of the sd select with
- backup is selectable alone now
- wipe is selectable alone now (including wipe dalvik)
- added check for i717
-> if it is not a i717, only "external" sdcard should be available, which "mounts" to /sdcard
- back button now goes back, doesn't exits anymore (except from the start view)
0.1 - 2012-04-12 (Download)
- initial release
Known Bugs
- you can add folders to the install queue (doesn't make sense...)
How to use
- Select a zip, click on it to add it to the install queue (and repeat if wanted)
- click on the zip again, to remove it from the queue again
- after you've selected all zips you want to flash, click on "Install Queue"
- long click allows you to add/remove the zip from the queue
- clicking on apks allows you to install them (if it is enabled)
- In the Install Queue:
- long press allows you to remove an item
- if more than one zip is in the queue, you can re-arrange the installation order
- checking the backup button, allows you to create a backup before installation (to the selected device)
- selecting the wipe mode, will wipe after the zips are installed

Braway, believe it or not, I was planning on asking you this very question this morning, only to find that you've already been working on it.
It does not let you create a backup without a zip in the queue, however. It aborts the action.
Also, is there a specific CWM version that needs to be installed?

HSD thanks for this thread!
Probably someone will find a way to increase the memory in the future, the memory is 600 MB because the phone is loading two kernels in once,so it has to share some memory with the first loaded kernal, this is at least my opinion.
meanwhile i have three questions:
1.Will users would be able to load other kernals in the future?
2.Kexec is integrated to cm9 only? or is it possible to run Kexec on other roms?
3.Is there any change log or some information on what Kexec integrated kernals offer?
Thanks in advance .
I assume this is the thread to talk about it.
I think so.
But for more Information we have to wait for an right, working Link to add in OP. It's hard to follow all these Links that changes daily an till now I wasn't able to access rombot again.
I use KeXec ICS the first time today and it's new for me, too. So we'll see what happens in future.
@ the moment I'm just thankful, that these Guys released it for XT910 today

And when kexec'll be adapted to bootmenu, Which advantages will Safestrap have over Bootmenu?
Thanks for the post!
When Whirleyes is back from vacation I'm sure he will KeXec get running on BootMenu.
Personaly I miss it, because it's a lot faster than Safestrap is.

Well nice work hsd again but I would I like to say saying something its currently better not to switch to kexec cause battery life is not good and animations in the rom are slow also camera is not working
It would be better to wait for the final rom and then flash it

OK thanks for the answers regarding the memory but i'll just wait until kexec become bootmenu compatible
I recommend an clean SBF Flash of your Stock ICS Rom to kick all Leftovers of CWM (Touch) out of your System!

Finally! I've been waiting for gsm safestrap, no more softbricks! Thx a lot!
@Pilot: Are you running Infected Rom with kexec?? Is it possible to get the CDMA-CM9-Kexec to work using the GSM-Patch? Because the CDMA-CM9 has less bugs..
No, there's only the CM9 KeXec. I changed the Rom & Signatur already.
I've not tried it with the CDMA Rom. The No Deepsleep is an huge problem for me, because of the bad battery drain. I'm not sure if it's fixed on the CDMA Roms already.

I think, it's never an good idea to flash Customs, when you're not able to handle RSD. You play russian roulette with the Phone
