Does anyone know how to unroot my 3D that is Hboot 1.40 S-off because i need to take it back to Sprint and i can not find a thread on it only for 1.50 which from what i read seems to only work for the 1.50. please help thanks
Just do this. Download it, rename it to PG86IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sd card. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21593454&postcount=564
Then if you want to restore s-on run this in bootloader
Code:
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3

Moved to q&a, even though I've warned about deleting question thread in general section, also this has been posted with a walkthrough and a search or even just barely looking would have saved this thread from ever existing.

This site also has something called forum structure. Just FYI. When you tag a question [Q] and there's a section called Q&A, is it really freaking rocket science to know that your question probably goes there? Yeah, I'd say so.
you can install a rom using 1.5 hboot and the latest firmware/radios
after doing the HTCDEV unlock. i spent over 1 hour walking someone thru it on chat this evening.
there is a nice 'kanged' write up on how to in this forum.

Look, you can try to downgrade your radio's, pri's etc using the RUU below. It will revert you back 2.3.3 Radio 0.97.10. 0530. Then you can root your phone(you can use the revolutionary method). Let me know if this works. Download it and it will guide you through the process...

Ok, sorry if this info is readily out there but after reading and reading I am just not sure what to do so I am going to ask what I hope is not a dumb question. I have tried to update my firmware using captain_throwback's instructions to flash at the bootloader with a file on the root of the SD card. It was named correctly and never gives me a successful indication. I do not have any issues with the phone but I am just trying to keep it updated as they come out without screwing my HBoot. Is there something that I have missed or am not seeing based on the info below?
I really appreciate any help, thanks!

Make sure to read through it 10 times and triple check that you have all of the necessary items before you begin. It would also be a good idea to have a USB drive with Ubuntu on it just in case.

Same here, bricked, but got it back with Ubuntu. Anyone still on the first hboot don't realize what they got and s-off otherwise your wasting your phones potential. There is no excuse for having hboot 1.12 and being s-on anymore.

Then you´re probably s-on.
Did you unlock your bootloader? Do you have root access?
When booting into the bootloader it will say s-on or s-off.
I s-offed my phone yesterday with the same hboot, using the wiretrick here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743466

extract the boot.img from the rom, put it in your fastboot folder and type in cmd 'fastboot flash boot boot.img'

Used it myself, simply boot up into hboot with that file on your sd card, and accept.
Then it'll restart bootloader and voila, hboot 1.49.0007
The hboot wil also say 'locked' on top.

Damn somebody got hamed on by coal686. By the way homie, hamed is a term in Detroit used to describe somebody that got told off. But on a serious note, this site doesn't need pompous jerks trying to act like they are better by trying to sound intellectually brighter than somebody and having a smart mouth. This site is full of devs and users collaborating together to help one another. So there's no need to be a ****. I'm not name calling I'm just merely stating facts

It's all good. I edited mine to to be more straight to the point. Some people do need to be reminded what this site is all about and I don't think you were in the wrong. Although sometimes we all make mistakes its recognizing them and being the better man sometimes. Btw I liked your comeback as well. Not too harsh and got the point across
Thank all of you guys for all the help! I appreciate it. I have another question. I flashed the 3d to metro pcs. If i flash another rom will it delete the flash? and i downloaded apn backup but it says that ics doesnt let it back up or restore anything...
No it shouldn't. And are you flashing a aosp or sense Rom? Either one ics won't allow third party apps to write to the apn xml file. But here are a couple solutions. On sense you can download msl reader and get your msl code. Once you get that code go into your dialer dial ##3242# and punch in your code under edit. Once you do that click on advanced, go to the bottom of page where your mms settings are located. If you know the setrings, edit the settings to your liking. However if its aosp, you will need to make a copy of your apn file. It's located in system/etc folder if you didn't know. Place it in your pc. Use notepad to edit the settings and save it. Copy it back onto your sdcard. Then copy it back into the folder and set the default permissions for the file and reboot. If that don't work try go sms as an alternative until devs fix the issue.
I have the EVO 3D with the 2.89 RUU installed with HBOOT 1.5858 S-OFF
Is there anyway I can put a JB ROM on my phone?
I've read that JB is not compatible with 1.5858.

He was probably looking for clarification
hboot downgrade
Well I've also read that I can downgrade my hboot to 1.4, but that I have to brick it to do that. In other forums people talk like downgrading to 1.4 is simple. When I got the 1.58 upgrade it updated all my radio filestoo.. So I'm wondering if those radioh files are stored on the same partition as hboot. If they are I know how to flash my hboot with fastboot flash command so that would be simple.. Any help, pointers or info would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, since youre s-off, all you need to do is find a copy of the hboot ( pg86img.zip) and place it on your sdcard, and boot into the bootloader, the phone does everything else from there on its own

The purpose of the forum is to get the right info I've seen conflicting points on whether or not you still need to unlock the bootloader after s-off.
My understanding was that once your s-off you don't need to unlock because it bypasses the bootloader security checks. I am probably wring but I was hoping to get a clarified answer with this forum what do think choochoo

Just got my phone back from the JTAG service and this was the exact procedure. Flashed the ENG boot and then flashed recovery. Bootloader still says 'LOCKED' but allowed me to flash.
I've JTAGG'd 18 DNA devices so far on the OTA update (I do this on the downlow due to specific "developer" who can't understand how to get all phones to take the RIFF JTAG flash software.
Flash ENG Hboot if you want the options available to it, though not mandatory. Install a root program (SuperSU is my recommendation), then flash a recovery.
Immediately backup your current setup, then go for any ROM you see fit. Profit.
