HBoot 1.12.000 and HTC Unlocked Question - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Ok, sorry if this info is readily out there but after reading and reading I am just not sure what to do so I am going to ask what I hope is not a dumb question. I have tried to update my firmware using captain_throwback's instructions to flash at the bootloader with a file on the root of the SD card. It was named correctly and never gives me a successful indication. I do not have any issues with the phone but I am just trying to keep it updated as they come out without screwing my HBoot. Is there something that I have missed or am not seeing based on the info below?
I really appreciate any help, thanks!
My Phone:
HBoot 1.12.000
HTC Unlocked
TWRP 2.2.2
MeanRom 3.5
Base 1.05.11.0606
Build 2.13.651.1 CL99866
PRI 2.28.003

You have to be S-OFF to flash through the bootloader. I highly suggest you run lazypanda to get S-OFF

Ok, thanks! Is there a method you suggest? Reading the lazypanda thread it talks about a few different ways to get there, from reading it I wonder if one is better than the others.

Make sure to read through it 10 times and triple check that you have all of the necessary items before you begin. It would also be a good idea to have a USB drive with Ubuntu on it just in case.

As the others have said, post #2 has everything you need. I ran the LazyPanda S-off tool last Friday and it worked perfectly. I was pretty nervous when I did it, but as long as you follow the directions you will be fine.

Thanks everyone!!!!
It worked just as advertised, and for the record I read the instructions 14 times (I can be a little ADD sometimes)

Running lazy panda was probably the scariest thing I ever did to my phone, my heart was racing as I went to hit the enter button. Thankfully it worked flawlessly.

I am right there with you, while it was going through feeding panda and said "cant find device" I about crapped myself.

Same here, bricked, but got it back with Ubuntu. Anyone still on the first hboot don't realize what they got and s-off otherwise your wasting your phones potential. There is no excuse for having hboot 1.12 and being s-on anymore.

That is not referring to the MR1 build. It says 1.0xxxx. MR1 is 1.13.605.7. That is the pre-release build that was used for downgrading in the original root process. The problem was that build had an old hboot that wouldn't interrupt the flash before the security warning happens. Which was a serious issue when we only had 2 RUUs newer than that to recover with. Anything from the release firmware (1.12.605.6) and up should be perfectly fine.

I know you can get back to s-on from Revolutionary. I was just saying as long as he didn't use Revolutionary the simple method in the thread I linked would work just fine.
Edit: I just realized you linked to the same instructions I did and you can NOT get back to s-on with that method if you used revolutionary. Revolutionary installs a hard patched hboot that prevents it from being overwritten by any hboot without issueing a specific fastboot oem command.

[Q] Have S-Off 1.5 hboot and want to downgrade to 1.4.

I've answered this a few times on this board regarding the CDMA version of the EVO 3D. I'll quote from my previous posts as I don't think anything has changed. Please post back if you still have questions!

2nd time around: shift didn't have the nand write lock on the misc partition, hence being able to temp root and flash a lower version to the misc partition then hboot would allow a downgraded version of software to be loaded.
esseentially it seems as if htc was doing the bare minimum to protect the shift from being unlocked/rooted as all these methods were known and some were used on the HTC EVO prior to the shift software releases.
this has been covered a few times on the forums, but i hope rehashing old ideas/attempts might spark new ones! sometimes it only takes a slight tweak to an old method for it to bypass a patch and work! hope that helps!

If your hboot was soff before he upgraded, then it would still be soff, so if you're on hboot 1.5 with s off, then you can downgrade. If you're s on, then you're stuck.

Yes my S-Off flag is still showing in the Bootloader
I know downgrading from 1.5 with S-on is currently impossible but I know it can be done with S-off
Should've clarified I guess
Edit: yes it is CDMA

I may be the only one that doesn't have any problems with 1.5. With joeykrims flash gui, you can do pretty much anything 1.4 can do.
Man. Wish I have s-off

[hboot 1.50]+[s-off]+[recovery]+[root]

Ok I guess this is nothing new (I'm sorry for making a new thread but here goes since it's already here!) and honestly there's probably no reason to do this I did it on accident troubleshooting a problem with my mic...
First I did the downgrade procedure using Closeone's awesome live cd it's super easy and really not as scary as one would think!
Once the downgrade was done, had used revolutionary and I had installed Meanrom (Meanrom not necessary) I ended up running the 2.17 RUU which left me with "Relocked and S-OFF"
Then I just did the htcdev unlock (it actually won't let you select yes but it unlocks the bootloader) after this it let me flash a recovery image through fastboot.
Once again sorry this was already known I just had never seen it and wanted to share it with you all in case it might help someone

Not trying to burst your bubble but i had 1.5 s-off before...all you have to do is gain s-off through revolutionary and either accidentally or purposefully flash a pg86img/ruu.exe that contains hboot 1.5. Those files don't change s-off/s-on

if you start with 1.3/1.4 and run revolutionary the shooter gets radio s-off. after that if you're ruu'ing to hboot 1.5 in the end result is s-off. hence the permanent nand unlock

Reaper24 explained what had happened on the first page. Just an accident. If you are already on HBOOT 1.40, you can unlock the device (S-OFF) with Revolutionary. Upgrading back to 1.50 will still allow S-OFF to work as long as the device was previously unlocked.
Currently, the only known way of getting S-OFF on a HBOOT 1.50 is downgrading it to 1.40 (see Unknownforce's post stickied at the top of the page or my signature).
Thanks anyways nymica.

Why would you downgrade hboot and then run ruu to install the latest hboot? If you downgraded to 1.12 you should have no problem running lazy panda. Am I missing something?
On unlimited's site it says the rom requirements to run lazy panda is 1.13 RUU. I was confused on that as well but it hasn't been successful. I'm currently 1.12 hboot with 1.22 software version. So at this point just run the lazy panda?
Someone in mac's development thread stated they were able to run lazy panda on 1.12. You should ask about it in that thread and see if anyone can help
i ran it out of the box no RUU just ran it
Was that you that mentioned it then? I was having a hard time remembering who mentioned it lol

The old ones will likely not work, but you're welcome to try. You'll likely bootloop, if you're not sure how to fix a bootloop I wouldn't venture that way. All the mods will come, but they have to be ported to the new base. Relax and give the devs some time, it's only been two days.
Trust me, I'm patient.. I can wait for a while if needed. And since these smart people (unlike me) that can do things like this so well I was just curious...
For avoiding bootloop I'm not sure at if that's what I'll get but I'll try later when I get home since I don't want to screw up my phone while at work.. Especially how restricted my internet sites are..
Thanks for the quick and informative response, I never am disappointed !

DirtyRacun is pretty painless if you follow the instructions to the letter I helped someone a couple weeks ago over gtalk get S-OFF using DR

You don't want to update the hboot just the radios/firmware if you decide to get S-OFF you can udate those pretty easy

I would suggest s-off dirty racoon style. Then flash your radios through bootloader. When the jb base came out I was s-on and decided it would be smart for me to future proof so I took the plunge. Follow the instructions for dirty racoon step by step and you should be okay. I've also read somewhere that s-on users who have taken the ota update to jb and then unlocked bootloader through htc have been having some issues getting radio and other firmware to stick after flashing through bootloader. It made sense to me to s-off. Pretty painless if you follow the directions. Hope this helps you out but to each his own.

For every one that helped I want to say thank you to them officially because now I'm s-off and running radio 1.12.11.1119. Now that I got this accomplished is there anything else I should know or update? I saw pri or prl not sure but was told since I am in roam a lot for my job I should probably get the business prl? Anyways thanks again and if there is anything else please let me know!
You all rock:thumbup::thumbup:
