ICS OTA with sense 4.0 or 3.6? - HTC Rezound

i've been seeing screenshots of the ICS leaks, they all show sense 3.6. am i right in assuming no OTA sense 4.0 for the rezound?

correct but there are very awsome sense 4 roms

Yep unfortunately so... I'm using pokemon so I don't really care at this point.

bummer. ROM flashing was like crack when i was using my Inc2. i guess won't be kicking the habit after all.

Sorry, but no such luck. HTC in there infinite wisdom has been using the new sense versions as a selling point for new phones. So even though the Rezound will get ICS, it will be with Sense 3.6. The good news is though, you can use a custom ICS ROM that has Sense 4.0 like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630696
Just a suggestion.

If I could just interject with a question of my own...
are these Sense 4.0 roms fully working? I thought I heard that the radios or something didn't work on ICS ROMs but I really don't know what the hell I'm talking about

Just only a small quirk here and there. They work very well and can run them as dailys.

Radios work, wifi works. Animations not so much, it has some strange quarks like wifi will randomly give out and the keyboard for me sometimes just stops working. Has to be lock screen on/off'd.

That's really a grey area imo, for heavy use it's not good. It bogs down quick and just seems like it'd be best to wait awhile before claiming it as a replacement for your daily driver. I wouldn't count on it in any situation where you have to have your phone.

I am running Rezrom S4 2.1 (sense 4) as my daily driver. Besides bluetooth not working 100%, i have had ZERO issues, no reboots, no lags, no force closes. No camera issues (i tale lits of pictures), i use go-keyboard so i have no issues with in that area. I have never dropped my wifi while at home or public. i prefer unlocking my device with lock screen versus other methods using stock lockscreen. If there is issues i have not found them or i do not use the apps that cause the errors.
For me, this rom is definitly ready for everyday use. Results will vary for each user.....
My advice try both sense versions and all of the roms before making a judgmebt based off other users experiences.....
Good luck.

The newest pkmon works almost 100%. It is smooth, good battery life, no real downsides over sense 3.6. It is an upgrade to move to pkmon.

[Q] What would you say the most stable ics rom is??

I was wondering what you guys would say the most stable ics rom is??
Ive been using scotts senseless rom and its been ok just a few problems. before that i had his cleanrom but i just cant like sense that much something about it kinda turns me off..
what do you guys think?
ima add one more question to this thread.. Where i live my signal is finicky as it is but im thinking running ics has made my signal drop is this a problem or is it just me trippin out?

I'm running CleanROM 2.3 completely desensed and it's as stable as Gingerbread.
yeah i was thinking about going back to it to many system ui crashes and other lil bugs in the aosp roms is it updated to the 4.0.3 with sense 3.6?
&& how is it desensed?
I really didn't like the battery life on cleanrom 2.x or desensed. I switched to cleanrom 1.6.5 and getting nice battery life.
I found Nils business sense ICS to be the most stable. But the small pluses of ICS didn't make the cut compared to the battery life and ease of use of Gingerbread. Especially once the new wore off. Back to CleanROM 1.6.5 for me too!
All of the ics roms have the same root issues really- that being blue screen flicker, etc. I'm on nils currently cause I like his out of the box notification mods.
Ics rules but I think may go back to gb (until an official) for some issues that are irking me. Vid chat doesn't work on skype, gchat, etc. Can't crop pics or do certain effects in the gallery. Beats eq is not working correctly. Again, most of these are probs that follow all of the ics roms and the devs have done a fantastic job -but I may just end up going back until these talented folks get their hands on an official build. I think they've reached a point where there's not a whole lot left to do with this current build. But like I said, what they've managed to do with this early build is damned amazing.
i flashed back to clean rom and desensed removed everything and so far it seems alot more stables im not getting any word that things are crashing even when making calls like it did before not to shabby i say plus the gallery from the camera i was having that problem in senslessrom
You guys running ICS, can someone confirm whether the folders are the new ICS folders like the Gnex has.
do you mean the folders in the launcher? then yes if you have the stock ics launcher
I'm loving Business-ICS
The skins, overall stability is pretty awesome. The one huge issue is battery life. On stock, I had it to where I could get at average just under 2 days of battery with my extended (2750mah) battery. With this ROM, with almost nothing running, and leaving the screen low-use, and LTE turned off, etc, I still can't get more than 6 hours at BEST on a full charge! Is anyone else seeing this? Do I need to look at flashing to a ziggy kernel or something? Or is it just part of the leaked ICS that the devs have to work from?
I was getting 10 hours on my stock battery running senseless ics rom with a hour of navigation and pandora on pretty much the whole time (lte disabled) +texting+ facebook and what ever else and i was left with more than 25 %
I've been using Scott's senseless since it was launched its an awesome rom but alot of fc's figured I'd try tachi's senseless 4.0 (which is based off one if Scott's roms) with the USB fix and HTC mms fix and runs super stable best senseless ics I've tried so far. Sounds like there are some pretty good rooms on the way though. Feel free to try them all out and find what you like best though.

My personal favorites would have to be by NilsP, lllboredlll, and Scrosler. All are pretty stable roms.
I've been holding out on trying any roms, still on stock. Just the topic I need to follow here

I must echo that Tachi's 4.0 rom is pretty good (with the fixes). I can't wait until we get a fully working AOSP rom. Scott's are good as well (the CleanROM 2.3 is actually a bit better than the Senseless, but... has Sense).

I do get worse battery life on ICS (running cleanrom 2.2sp1), but not that bad, I still get 10-16 hours before swapping extended batteries.

Yes, I'm talking about the launcher. When I had the GNex and I created a folder, it showed the icons stacked on top of each other rather than the plain folder that GB has. So the stock ICS launcher on the Rezound shows the icons like the GNex does? I'm asking because I was worried that Sense would not have that feature.

do not get ics all are unstable and i bricked my phone doing this well my friends extra phone I had to wipe the phone completely clen and starting over. I am downloading all roms tring to find something that works again. but like all post ineffabilis is the only one that comes close to restoreing the phone. I will update later to see if I can restore a dead phone but leave ics only until offical update.

Benefit of current ICS Rezound ROMS?

Hi guys I know we have a bunch of roms for the RZ based on the leaked ICS. I took a look and see that overall everyone seems to be happy w/ these ROMs. I'd just like to ask what kind of feature beneits from the "full ICS" have been implemented in these ROMS ie hardware acceleration, improved interface etc and regarding the stability of these ROMs?
I like the fact that Rosie is actually useful, for a change. You can put groups of icons where only one used to fit before. For instance, all of your various communication type apps can be grouped together (Mail, Gmail, Facebook, etc...). This gives your desktop lots more room instead of being cluttered with icons.
The interface seems a little less clunky, and just flows better.
I also enjoy being able to run tether in infrastructure mode, something GB has been unable to do for me. The grouping folders on the launch bar is great. I also noticed that the roms run extremely smooth. Sense also seems to have lost a bit of weight from GB.

Another thing i noticed, when I connect my car charger, on ICS it's connected as "AC plugged" rather than "USB plugged". This charges my phone much faster and I can actually use GPS, Waze, Pandora, and Text/Browse (when stopped of course!) and my phone battery percentage is still going up!! =)

I havent seen this yet but this makes me very happy. I had taken a trip and used navigation a few times along with spotify and even with my car charger(a nice cheap universal one), I was still putting a drain on the battery.
Shouldn't hardware acceleration make a difference?
Good question.
I'm unlocked and rooted, but I haven't installed a rom because I really dont know what a rom is. I read about a few things that dont work and the blue flickering(which I get VERY rarely on stock GB) with the lastest ICS roms.
But how is an ICS rom different from getting ICS OTA? If everything worked in a ICS rom(or atleast everything I needed) is there a difference? or reason to want ICS OTA
With the current ICS roms does the following features work?
face unlock, new voice input engine, improve battery life
most app from the market work with ICS roms?
thanks
ICS
ICS is very stable in most of the ICS roms at this stage. I would reccomend either the rezrom or inneffablis roms, though the cleanrom series should not give you trouble unless you try to desense it. I have not noticed a significant difference in battery life, but like it says above there are a few specific improvements such as with charging via a car charger and overall performance is very good. Personally i really dig the look of and function of ICS , I don't use cleanrom because the last version i tried still used some sense gingerbread/sense apps.
If you need any assistance or have any questions id be happy to help ill be flashing some new roms tonight.
I beg to differ.i would say none of the ics roms are stable. And this is from user experience. There are numerous bugs and glitches. I'm in no way knocking any of the work the devs do. They are remarkable individual. Those builds need work before they can get the stable stamp of approval.

Stable means they don't crash..and they don't. If a feature is broken that is a deal breaker for you it doesn't mean it isn't stable.

Maybe you should say "your" stable stamp of approval. I have used clean icse and now Joel's rom and both are very stable I have had zero issues with Joel's latest release.
It seems many people's issues are caused when they insist on restoring from titanium and I don't care what Rom or os version your run you are opening yourself up for trouble when you do that.
Another common issue seems to be when people install apps that are not upgraded for ics, and with any os this takes time.
By far the most common instability in these roms is chair to keyboard interface. That's right user error lol it astounds me the number of people that can't even be bothered to read simple instructions!
Take your time, back up and play around, if you take the time to do it right I'm sure you will love ics as much as those of us using it now. If you find it lacking, or your favorite app is not ready for prime time you can always go back.
One more thing this is my 4th android device and the devs that are slaying this device are awesome! Thanks to you all and if I haven't already bought you a round or two, its coming!

Face unlock and voice input work. Battery life varies like always but seems good. The apps I use work fine but there are some that don't. Read about some.folks having problems with launcher apps. I think at this point most of the ics features are there but remember its not either or, when the ota ics drops you can just switch to that or a rom with that as a base. There will be plenty!

Just wondering what app/method you're using for infrastructure tethering? I'm trying to tether my Rezound running stock ICS to my HP Touchpad running CM9 but the Touchpad doesn't work with adhoc.
But to join in on the discussion, I'm very happy with ICS on my Round. Very stable for me.
My response was pertaining to the asop ics
I had repeated crashes.camera, mms,Email, lock screen, wallpapers, and widgets all crashed. Sorry what I perceive as stable, and what you perceive as stable differ.

The most notable things in ICS are hardware acceleration and multi-core cpu support.

the way i got it to run in Infrastructure mode was under the device settings or whatever its called where you select your device, change it from auto to galaxy nexus cdma/lte, DO NOT turn on the encryption, if you need to keep ppl out enable access control, turn on router fixing, and it should work just fine. some devices might still have an issue with it, but not many.
I'm running Newtoroot's Senseless ICS ROM and it's fantastic. I'm probably not going to flash another ROM for 2, 3 days tops (sigh). I'll actually probably wait until they have CM9 up and running as a daily driver. They finally fixed the ICS camera, which I was able to extract from the CM9 build and install in the system / app folder. I finally have all the mega pixels back.

Opinions on the ICS ROMs?

Just curious what people think of the latest ROMs, what the fastest, smoothest, best looking are, etc...
Been using Scott's CleanROM ICS a lot and really like it, but was thinking to myself, that most of them seem to credit the same devs for various contributions and things... so in the end, are they all pretty much the same?
I know that if you ask a Dev they will say how theirs is different, but I would love to hear from end users who have used them all extensively, which ones they prefer and why.
I think that they are all great, but perhaps some are better in certain areas than others, and so a conversation that lays all that out might be beneficial to people who want to just to an ICS ROM, but don't know what one is right for them, and the "trial and error" process might be more than they are able to willing to tackle.
For reference, CM7 that I had on the DX is my all time favorite ROM, and it is the benchmark for me, so any ROM I go to, is to try and get as close to that experience as possible.
Thoughts?

Ok, cool, I will check that one out as well. Just ran a Nandroid backup so I guess I am ready to experiment. All of these latest versions are based off of the latest RUU, so I should not have to mess with that, or kernels for that matter, correct? Just the ROM itself, and if I don't like it, a simple Nandroid restore?
Of course I have to wipe data and cache before each install, but other than that, nothing else to do?

I'm running RezROM and loving it. One of the best things about the Rezound is the list of developers. Whether it's Bored, Nils, or Scott, their ROMS are rock solid and well-supported. Other devs are excellent, too, but these 3 are the ones I look to first.
ive been running Rezrom 3.1 on old firmware with the patch and it seems very nice. only small issue ive has was it seems like ringtones want to go off the media volume and not the ringtone volume setting but i think that is being worked on for the next version.
my only concern on the current wave of roms would be whether it could run on old firmware or not.

I would assume that patching the new ROMs to run on the old firmware will be phased out. It will probably be around for a little while to make it easy for those who may want to go back to GB. Since the new ICS ROMs are pretty much rock solid the only real reason anyone would want to do that is for returning their phone though. Once the official OTA comes I'm sure noone will be making the patches any more. I could be wrong though.
I kinda hope they keep making patches personally, I for one, have had no rush to get the leaked firmware, unless a ROM blows me off my feet that requires it, none have yet.
I've got a feeling that once the AOSP ROMs are working properly they will probably be built around the new firmware. The battery life improvement was worth the 20 minutes or so to do the flash for me. I assume with the patch to run the old firmware with the new ROMs the data arrows are working? Kind of a small thing, but sure is nice to have them back. LOL
Cleanrom DE is pretty nice, has an aosp feel but still has some sense parts, seems pretty smooth but I can never get any of the ics launchers as smooth as sense was
They are all great!!!
Personally I don't like running non official firmware. When HTC releases the official firmware we are probably going to have to go through the entire process again anyways. Also if HTC doesnt deem it fit for official release then i am not using it unless I am having a major issue that needs to be fixed. I wonder if the New firmware would fix my ics performance issues though
I am running ICS now as a daily driver on the old firmware. It is still a tad slower than gb performance wise for me. I have gone back and forth a couple times. I can see why people would want to stay on old firmware or gb til official ics is release. Hopefully ics performs a little better when it becomes official.
Sent from my Rezound
I used to love Sense, but as time has gone on I've grown kind of sick of it, plus it takes a heavy toll on the battery and resources. So now I've been looking for something closer to AOSP. The first ROM I used was Xtreme Outcast's ROM. It was slightly themed and close to AOSP. He hasn't updated in a while so I've tried scrosler's CleanROM DE, because he's on the newest leak, and so far I really like it. It's got some Sense elements, which I still have mixed feelings on, but it's really smooth, and has improved my battery life loads.
I am still using the original ICS leak based off 4.0.1. I have put so much time into it, and have it running so nearly perfectly that I am hesitant to even bother with the more recent leaks and will probably just hold off until official ICS is out or until AOSP RIL is working.

My thoughts exactly, my setup is working completely stable so I have no issue to change until a similar situation.

Why, oh WHY is the rezound So laggy for a duel core phone?

i have tried almost all the roms out there, sense, no sense etc and the rezound is SO laggy. especially on ICS. the last thing i tried yesterday, was the stock LEaked ICS, and i debloated it myself, and it is so slow. i had to do a battery pull 4 times on the way home last night while using instagram. honestly, im using my INC2 now, and it is so much less laggy and faster on both, ICS and GB
the specs are so nice, but man, its terrible. the ONLY thing i have not tried are custom GB roms. i SO love the look and feel of this phone, and the battery life is good. but man, i cant take the laggyness. i sooooo want to solve this
thoughts?
maybe you have a lemon?
Not sure what lag you're seeing. Mine is pretty good. Every now and then some lag will creep up but overall its lagfree and snappy.
Most roms I've tried even gb roms are somewhat laggy except rezrom gb. Nils business ics is also good for me. Ics lag is mainly due to kernel as there is no source yet. Is the stock Rom laggy for you as well? I've noticed this phone doesn't respond too well to underclocking like my EVO did

Stop using Instagram? I thought I had read somewhere that Instagram and ICS don't always play nice yet (at least on our ROMs)

hummmm...maybe..ill research it
How does one define lag anyways? What I might think is fast and quick maybe to slow for you. But as the others have said you may have a lemon. Look in the general thread for on how to s on. You will have to run the latest Gb ruu then do the s on command. I do not know it of the top of my head right now.. but make sure you are on a signed stock hboot before you s on
there's got to be something wrong with your phone. i'm still on stock & performance wise it's comperable to the galaxy nexus. oh and battery life sucks on all 4g phones.

Very true....i define lag as, when i press the home button, it takes a sec or two to get to home, all other phones i have owned goes right to home. opening apps, kinda slow compared to other phones as well. typing, VERY laggy unless i shut off vibration and the pop ups...
try factory reset it help sometimes after debloating
is ur rezound getting hot ?
its lags everytime ?
what the score u get from linpack ?
did u use setcpu ? or same app ?

I've used it with a few Sense 3.6 roms without issue. I'm voting on you have a bad phone also.

Mine does not do that at all.
I do a fair bit of texting all day & using Smart Keyboard Pro with vibration/popups on I get absolutely no lag whatever.
My phone will run weeks at a time without rebooting or freezing & I don't remember it ever FCing in any situation.

Ahh hrm maybe it's just the Sense 4.0 ROM's that Instagram may or may not work on....haven't run a 3.6 ROM in a long time
I have a similar problem to the original post. It has been taking about 2-3 seconds to enter settings, bookmarks within browser, etc. I have boiled it down to maybe a hardware issue. My phone ran great on GB though, so idk.I am rooted with s-off on the ICS leak with the fixed kernel. It usually runs good after first installing a rom, but then lag along. And this is with no apps downloaded.
I have another unrooted, non s-off Rezound with GB and it flies. I think I am going to switch to that. Hopefully when we get official ICS I can compare the two devices.
Long story short, I have the same problem but I am finding most people don't have this lag issue. Don't know what is causing it. Maybe I screwed up my hardware during s-off.

I have no clue, good question though. Worth looking into for others. Although I think there is a way to get back to S-ON in a thread in the Development section? My phone was Stock S-Off so I lucked out with that, so I'm sure I can, I'm sure you would be able too as well.

Do you have to sacrifice something with each rom?

I was given a Verizon HTC 4G Thunderbolt today. My wifes old Fascinate was on the verge of dying, so it was perfect timing. I got her all setup with her apps/contacts and she started learning how to use her new phone..... but now that she's sleeping I figured I would "enhance" her new phone and maybe learn a little something in the meantime. If I don't manage to turn it into a paperweight
I've never flashed a ROM before, but I've rooted many phones. I managed to get this one rooted and have downloaded a few roms (haven't flashed them yet), but after going through the different options it seems like you are always sacrificing something with a rom, is this normal?
I found that one rom where the wifi didn't work (this is a must for my wifes limited data plan), I found another rom where the camera didn't work (We have 3 kids and her phone is basically her camera), I found another one where 4G wasn't supported (she's going from a 3G to a 4G phone, I want her to use that feature).
Anyway, it just seems like each one has something that doesn't work...Is this normal or did I just happen to click on the ones that have issues?

Which ROMs have you downloaded? I'd recommend ThunderShed for a Gingerbread base. I used that for several months without issue. I'm on Liquid's ICS now and only have the reported camcorder issue although the camera still works.
I haven't flashed anything yet, I just started downloading roms and happened to notice that Liquid didn't have a working video camera. I can't remember the names of each one, but as mentioned before, one didn't have a working wifi, one didn't support 4G.... so it just seemed like each one was missing something.
I'll look into the one you mentioned, thanks!
If youre looking for a ics sense 3.6 based rom with everything working I suggest trying out nusense 3.6. its pretty good and everything seems to work. what I am running now.
If you want a GB then for aosp thundershed is the way to go. If you want a good sense gb rom skyraider is perfect when it comes to sense roms and everything works on those 2.
Oh and might want to ask your wife if she wants you messing with her phone. Messing with a womans phone is like messing with her kid not a great idea lol. I know my wife has told me if I root her phone she will kill me.

LOL, I'll check them out, THANKS!
As for me rooting her phone, she doesn't have a clue what that means, she just knows that now she doesn't have ads in her games and she likes that.
She did complain that the HTC interface is way different than the Samsung interface (DUH), are there ary roms that would make it look/act like her Samsung?
Samsung usually runs aosp so if you flash liquid ics she may not notice if you use a touchwiz theme.

Lol I forgot about that because I never use it.

Also some people has had the camera to stop working also after while. Yeah sense is way different than touchwiz. You could look for a theme that mimics touchwiz.
You could download a launcher like HOLO, Go launcher and AWD (think thats what its called.) .
I will second the recommendation of Thundershed 1.6, which has been flawless since I flashed it (everything works, runs super fast and smooth, and battery life is way better than stock and most other custom ROMs). You do need to bear in mind that these are custom ROMs, meaning each is designed to reflect the priorities of the designer and involve a certain degree of risk (rooting and replacing the stock ROM invalidates warraty), but in my experience the custom ROMs I have used (only two: BAMF Son Of A Bliss aka SOAB 1.4; Thundershed 1.6) have been as stable (if not more stable) than the original Thunderbolt. Also keep in mind, *every* device is different and custom ROMs act differently on every device.
Those caveats in place, I'd research different custom ROMs, and how each can be customized with different launchers, lockscreens and themes, and try one or two out. The Sense-based ROMs will act more like the stock Thunderbolt. Sense based ROMs include SOAB, Skyraider Zeus, and BAMF Forever, and the AOSP ROMs include Thundershed, Liquid Smooth 3.2, and SFK's CM7 build. While everyone is excited about the new ICS custom ROMs they still seem pretty "BETA" (Santod's NuSense 3.6 seems furthest along) like and so I'd wait until all of the bugs are worked out and focus more on Gingerbread ROMs for your "daily driver."
Hope this helps.
