Using No Wallpaper With ICS - HTC Amaze 4G

Within the last 48hrs I have gone with no wallpaper, I'm using Apex launcher, just decided to test it for the heck of it. The lockscreen wallpaper remains, cannot be changed (far as I can see)
Your screen - icons/apps etc remain, just select no wallpaper.
My battery life has improved a minimum of 20-25%
Anyone else want to give it a shot and report?

Makes sense. This was also true with Gingerbread. Mainly because its the display that is the culprit of most battery drainage on this phone. Also, use dark theme for tapatalk and other apps helps as well.

Yeah, I always heard that it makes a difference in batt drain, but its really surprising just how much of a difference.
I was using the stock ICS wallpaper, nothing really light color or too fancy

Sh*t wrong thread... my bad for the thread revival

Do you use live wallpapers?

This poll is to see how many people actually use a live wallpaper.
Not really, they look nice but I get better battery life without.

No. I just haven't found one that I love.
Powered by Axura with a dash of Voodoo
i get bored with them too quickly. plus i think i get bettery battery results without it
Sent from beyond the Galaxy
for the most part... no.
i mean i use them from time to time maybe for a day or two. but i always find myself going back to normal wallpapers.. unless im showing off then i'd be like check this out lol
I've used microbes for a month. It looks good with gingerbread themed beautiful widgets. Also my battery lasts from 630 to 9.

I usually keep an empty (black) wallpaper. But that's just me
I used one from time to time until I found Solar Winds and I have been using it since (about 2 weeks) I have not seen any adverse effects on battery life. I still get 20-25 hours.

Vibrant w/ Nero v4.1 + Voodoo = Beastmode
I use them, I usually have the Nexus S live wallpaper, but just switched over to the Solar Winds one. I have a hard time using a stationary wallpaper now, I sigh when I see my boring desktop wallpaper!
Nope. It's nice to show off your Android phone Live Wallpaper to your friends, but for practical use, I would still just use a static wallpaper.
I think this poll should have more options because I barely use Live Walls but from time to time I do and keep it for a while.
I voted No but only because its only every so often that I do.
I use Live Wallpaper on my Samsung Vibrant its called Solar Winds its so cool!!!

Sometimes, but mostly I just keep a static one.
I mean, they look nice and all, but they drain your battery faster.
I used 8-bit waterfall for a while (recommended for game nerds) but it was harshing my battery. Then I used solar wind for a while but I just got over looking at moving **** all the time.

Yes. I'm using Original Flurry. Goes good with my black theme (Obsidian v5 beta).

I use microbes and the swirling galaxy. I bought the phone to use it, f all about batterylife, im where it can be charged usually and have the spare battery pack. I have no idea what battery life will be with a static wallpaper. My phone works great with nero, I was about to give up on it until I started putting roms on it

I too use a live wallpaper. I find my self partial to the nexus and nexus s style wallpapers so I use this one called pl3x highly customizable to the point where I experience little to no additional battery drain. On an average day I still get 16-20 hours worth of battery (50-100 txts, ~40MB web usage, no gps, no wifi, occasional tethering)

Poorly made live wallpapers have poor battery life. Well made live wallpapers like solar winds, however, have virtually no effect on battery life at all.

[Q] Go launcher

Anyone else get terrible battery life with go launcher? I absolutely love the launcher but its almost not worth it for the extra battery drain im getting. Id like to see what everyone elses experiences are with this launcher
i dont use it anymore but when I did have it, my battery did not drain any faster (at least not that I noticed).
I just went to go launcher ex and it seems to be draining a bit faster but too early to be entirely sure
I wouldn't say terrible, but the battery drain rate did increase. When installed, I saw 2-3% drain during idle. I switched back to LauncherPro and it has gone back to <1%.
I'm in a bad service are at the moment but I can for sure say it's absolutely guzzling it right now with internet significant use. I think I'm going to just go back to touchwiz or try adw or some other one. 5 rows for apps and customizable themes isn't worth the drain.
yes I have notice a atleast 3% drain on idle. I absolutely love that launcher but cant do that. In 3 hours I was down to 88% with little use...
Is there not a way to get an extra row of apps on TW Launcher? How about the bottom row at least?

I love Go on this phone, but I don't use any widgets and keep syncing off. Overnight after 8hours I only loose ~2-3%
So you're saying everything setup identical between Go and TW or another launcher you see a noticeable idle drain? Would love to see some numbers showing that.
Yessssss!!!! Between the launcher and all the stupid Widgets I found myself force stopping constantly...extremely annoying if I may say so...

Live Wallpaper

Just a quick question, how do you guys feel about live wallpapers?
Too much of a battery drain? Ruins performance? Anyone use them?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
I don't use them, I think they slightly impact battery life.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
They are pretty, and in some cases they are even useful... but they certainly impact battery life.
They impact battery life, but the screen is so much better to look at. I personally use the nexus live wallpaper. I get through the day with about 30% battery left on moderate use so no biggie.

This is hilarious, I just installed the free matrix one to see how cool it looked. Setcpu bounced back and forth from 200-800, with a normal picture wallpaper it sits at 200 at idle. lol I used to use beautiful live weather(or whatever it's called) and loved that because it showed the current weather for my area in the wallpaper...so cool. That was always my favorite by far.
its my understanding that they only use more battery when being displayed, and stay idle when not displayed, correct?
I use Ice Galaxy wallpaper and get around 12-15 hours with moderate to heavy usage.
i could be wrong here but it almost seems like they use more battery regardless of whether the screen is on or not. anyone have any input on this?

Can a theme use more battery?

I have been running cm7 for a couple of weeks now and my battery has been stable and pretty good life. However last night I put a new epic blue theme on and this morning after a full night of charging after 1hr and 11 minutes and I am down to 81%? Looks great but does it pull more juice? Thanks in advance!

I suppose its possible, I have definitely noticed that some themes produce more lag than others so I don't think your idea is too outlandish...

I did not think it would matter I never noticed it before. However this theme looks awesome but curious if all this extra color and extras could cause more batery drain? I just turned down the brightness I am sure that did not help being on brightest setting.
In theory, I would say its possible. If a theme has more complex images then I would say it could take a little more effort for the phone to render them. But I wouldn't think it would make that big of a difference.
No, not on our device anyway. SuperAMOLED screens I think get better battery life on a dark theme, but not 100% on that. No matter what, the same amount of light is used on a color choice for our device. The "lag" users are getting is possible due to a conflict with image size or an image missing; not 100% on that either, but 99% sure that the answer to your question is no. UOT or Theme Chooser CM7?

Theme Chooser on cm7. And I did have to accept that it does not fit my screen and use anyways. It probably is not the theme it might have been a coincidence that it happen after the theme. Thanks for the clarification pretty much like I thought but it was weird to have a unusual battery drop right after I changed themes. Thanks again.

I have been using cm7 and it does AMAZING with the battery. I can actually last a day. What kills my bat life is leaving the data on, I think there is an error somewhere with the data controller with this port. If I turn data off with screen off,I can probably go 5 days (but little to no usage). But if I turn data on and leave screen off,I might last 10 hours

Best wallpaper for battery life?

Ignoring live wallpapers, is there a good "blank" wallpaper that would minimize battery usage? all white? all black? My phone is a tool, I don't really care about fancy backgrounds, and I saw something on cnet about certain wallpapers causing greater battery drain based on the screen technology. (Obviously live wallpapers would).
Black or dark ones
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah just get a totally black wallpaper, that would be best. CM9 and 10 even have a "no wallpaper" thing built in for totally black. that would use the least. Though as the poster above said, preferably ones that are darker tend to use less battery life.
I've been using android since I've had my HTC dream/g1. And back then things would help with battery life. I've played with sync on, sync off, brightness on low, wallpapers, dark themes, etc etc you get the point.
At this point in my android "career" I have come to the conclusion that if i keep sync on, Bluetooth on, have whatever i want for a background and the battery life will always be the same.
If you want good battery life buy an extended battery, or don't use your phone. With eveyything on except wifi(I don't have it) I only drop a bit over half a percent every hour. That's on my sgs3. The next step is rooting and running different kernels which can make a difference.
