I'm thinking about getting the RAZR maxx for my graduation present but are there any roms available for it that are stable and don't have too many issues?

There's Eclipse, Gummy, and Black Widow are the least bugs. I would say that Eclipse is best as it has no bugs, but it is no longer supported by nitroglycerin33.

I can second that Eclipse has no bugs. Eclipse is great. I haven't tried Gummy on the RAZR, but it has a great reputation across most phones. As far as Black Widow, I had never heard of it until purchasing my RAZR, but everyone seems to be singing its praises, so it is definitely worth looking into.
Also, you can check out the .75 ICS leak. Do not do the .84/.85 ICS leaks, as you cannot return from them. .75 does not have this problem and runs pretty smoothly. I rarely notice any bugs, and when I do, it's something minor like a few-second transition freeze or something.
If you like to run ICS, try Black Widow, very stable and fast, only issues: no h/w accel. and no camcorder (taking photos is working fine, also frontcam working). You also can flash the new ICS-Leak, but NO WAY BACK for now...so take you time to think about it
Eclipse all the way if you want all features working. If you dont care about camcorder or netflix Gummy is really nice. I used it for a few days, but i NEED a camcorder so had to go back to eclipse. As far as I know, the leaks have full working camcorder, still have to try them,
I'm currently on black widow and is running great with little to no issues. The only issue I've come across is using juice defender, but other than that, awesome ROM.

So I know that there are a number of available ROMs out now for the X2. I just wanted your guys' opinion on the "best" one. And by "best", I'm talking performance-wise. Is there one that clearly stands out in terms of performance or are they all generally similar?
Btw I'm running Eclipse remix and it's pretty great. Thanks guys!

Eclipse is nice. Mostly because it was the first one out and has received CONSTANT change feedback and support. I am sure the others will catch up to the following eclipse has and get the feedback needed to create amazing roms. With that said I think ALL the roms are great considering we have a locked bootloader so it is limited in what can be done.
My smartbench productivity score hovers around 3000. The gaming index tho has dropped to 2100 from 2700 on the remix5 test version. I been trying to figure out what changed. All I know is my gljellyfish only gets 22fps when I used to get 36 easily. And I notice my screen pixelates while watching netflix movies a LOT now. Just awaiting blurless 7 as I think it is the blurless I have been waiting for. I have stayed true to blur remix but I think that might change me.
My personal opinion is that the new Atrix update is the best current ROM. I like eclipse, but I didn't like the camera functions. Performance-wise they are pretty similar IMO.

+1 less blur, the better imho. Eclipse v6 is very snappy and responsive and the battery life is great! I liked the performance of the Atrix stock port, but it's too much like stock. Take some time and flash away. Forget about scores and see which ROM feels, and performs, the best for you and what you use your phone for.

I like Alien and Liberty!!
The new atrix rom is awesome and very fast no problems for me at all
I'm personally on the atrix rom, i deblurred myself, installed the modified qhd twlauncher from the atrix forum, and im using the "way blur should have been" theme in the X2 themes and apps board; my smartbench is disappointing me (1600 productivity :X) but it's the smoothest my phone has ever been. If you're not a benchmark reliant user, it's awesome.
I use the stock atrix port.
I dont understand why people complain about blur, theres alot of blur thats way better than AOSP.
Camera, music, widgets, ect.
For me the widgets may have been the biggest deal. i like my homescreen crowded

It seems that people have a mixed opinions on blur or no blur. Im pretty sure that there are strengths and weaknesses with both.
What I like about nitro's rom's is that he has somehow found the best of both worlds and somehow makes them play nice together. That's an amazing feat in itself!

Eclipse. I tried the atrix port but went back
I was on v.6 of Eclipse, downgraded to v.5 for the red ICB theme. Going to try out others. My first smart phone, and its a blast trying out tons of stuff! I say pick one that has a cool name like Alien, flash it, then move onto another weather you liked it or not, and keep going, even if it feels like the best one ever, there's always another to try! Figured I might try some ATRIX port ones tonight!
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Atrix with the Alien theme (not Alien Rom). I read on another forum that you can flash pretty much any theme thats compatible with the Atrix version 4.5.91. So far so good, I'm running Navens Atrix port with very little blur look, will probably try to De-Blur as much as it permits.
after running the Atrix port for about 2 weeks, I'm going back to eclipse, the atrix port has been giving me problems using wifi tethering and honestly, the longer I use it the more it lags and the slower it gets.
eclipse gave me NO problems whatsoever (except for crappy battery life) but that was version 5, I'm trying to hold out for blurless 7 but I don't know if I can wait that long.

used both atrix port 0.4 and eclipse v7, and i have to say that speed of Eclipse v7 is unparalleled...so far battery life is also pretty good...
Plus i am definitely liking the default cyan theme...
Id go to v.7 if there was a red and black theme. I like the Win 7 ROM that Peperm1nt just released. Its still in its beta with some fixes coming soon, but I like it because its fast and looks different because of Launcher 7. Might want to give it a try!

I am curious as to what is the best ROM for X2? Eclipse, molten...or any others? Why do you think it is the best?
Well it all depends on what you are looking for. I personally think that Eclipse is the best, solely because Nitro is always working on it. It is fast, and smooth. Liberty is also nice, I just don't care for the design factors of it. MIUI is well designed, but if you'd go for that I would wait for the newest release to come to x2, because it is pretty slick looking. I haven't a clue about Molten, but there are like no screenshots of it, so if you want to try it, please post a thread of them lol.
I'd personally say try Eclipse to see how you like it, but if you'd like to try more always keep nandroid backups so you can have a selection of ROMs readily available.

They are all pretty fantastic! I say start with one, test it out, make a nandroid if you like it, then flash a new one and test it out, and go until you find one you like the best. If you get flash happy, make nandroids of a couple. I have a nandroid for liberty eclipse and gp7. I'm running molten 2.2. Its fun going back and forth between them. Haha

No they don't. Seriously I don't get your issue. Eclipse has been far better and more reliable than both stock 2.3.3 and 2.3.4. I would experience several force closes of factory loaded software every day. That isn't the case with Eclipse or Liberty.

I dont want to argue with anyone but I ran into more issues with stock blur(puke) then any custom rom on here.
The camcorder thing might be because of the bionic camera being in eclipse and not the stock blur camera.. I don't know but I have used the camcorder a lot and never had a force close until i purposely hit the screen after pressing record. I guess when its recording I dont press the screen....

Okay, I did what you said in Liberty3 and it worked just fine. No FCs, nothing. Worked like a charm.

Eclipse works great for me. I highly doubt you will be disappointed.
Yep ill second the eclipse 1.3 I've followed eclipse since the early days. Currently I'm using the 2.3.5 OTA and have been slowly freezing bloat and have applied supercharger v.7 so far its nice not as much free ram not as snappy and not as much battery as say eclipse on 2.3.4 but better that but stock 2.3.4 or 2.3.3.

It's been over a month since I flashed my X2 to Liberty and I got bored. Then, I saw Nitro/Scott tweet that Eclipse v2.0 for the X2 was coming and as of last night, was 90% complete, so I decided to flash back to Eclipse.
Lo-and-behold, I experienced the FC with the camcorder. So, I just pulled the BlurCamera.apk from Liberty3 for X2 and all the FC's are gone!
All I did was delete the Camera.apk from /system/app, copied the BlurCamera.apk back to /system/app, set the permissions to 0644 and then rebooted. FCs gone!
Can't wait for Eclipse 2.0.
I've been using CM9 for 4-5 weeks now, and I like it. It's nearly perfect, but the rotation and camera bugs aren't exactly deal breakers for me, though I would like to have full use of my phone. CM9 just got an update, but CM7.2 is updated almost daily, and I suppose everything works due to the Gingerbread drivers being available. Plus, Gingerbread uses fewer resources. It's not overclocked, but I imagine in running at 1GHz it gets better battery life.
So just wondering what the Photon/Electrify users think, and a poll for nice statistics.
I was using cm9 as my daily for many months. When the newness wore off I started experimenting with other roms including cm7. And I must stay, after using cm7, cm9 seems to feel very sloppy and forced. This is no fault of joker, just the current tools he is given. Cm7 is absolutely a dream and is leaps and bounds more customizable than cm9 in its current iteration. You'll find that everything works without flaw and that battery is much better. All in all, if you need to be on the bleeding edge, run cm9. If you want full functionality and everything to just work, run cm7.

Thanks for the input. That's all very helpful. I love the hell outta ICS/CM9 and I have it set up nice, but I'm going on vacation in a couple months, and, while I'd like to show off ICS, stability and fluidity will be more important, as well as battery life.
And no, I don't wanna knock Joker either, he does great work, I'm just not sure if I'm a bleeding edge kind of guy. Part of me is (the whole geek thing) but another part of me wants something that just works. I'll get something that's risky and cool (Paranoid Android in tablet mode, for example) and then I'll go back to something safe. Actually using Paranoid Android in phone mode right now. I like the centered (yes, iPhone-like) clock.
I like CM9 but the camera stuff is a deal breaker for me. I've used the CM7/2.3.5 hybrid from peetr. It's smooth, fast, battery-sipping, and wonderful. I love the 1080p video camera. I tried overclocking it (you can do that with CM7 roms, by the way), but I didn't really notice a difference in speed, and it seems just a bit unstable. I think the biggest difference people notice in speed with overclocking, other than benchmarks, is the fact that they don't have a bunch of apps and settings slowing their phone down when they first load a new ROM, so of course it seems faster than what they were just working with.

Jellybean will be less stable than cm9 and hellaless stable than cm7 for a while. Try to remember that it's taken joker months of hard work to make cm9 this stable on a gingerbread kernel and components from other devices. Jellybean is exciting, but it's a generally small update that is meant to fix bugs and introduce a couple new apps. The problems we have with cm9 (lack of libs, kernel) will still exist.

I'm pretty sure Butter will require working drivers to work properly, so as excited as I am to see a JB port to our Photons, I doubt it'll be nearly as smooth as it seems until we get proper drivers =/.
I'm currently on CM 7.2 and loving it, but will move over to CM9 once we get some leaked drivers/kernel from Motorola. Joker does some great work, and it's impressive to see how much is working on ICS without those bits from Moto.
I agree. I am using Cm7 because it is stable. I really like Cm7 but am ready to move back to a more stable CM9.

I like Eclipse. It's just a ROM I've used since my X2 days. I've gone to so many different ROMs, but I always come back to Eclipse. Nitro (Scott) is really good at what he does. Updates come pretty quick when there are issues. Once the release is stabilized, a new version might not come out for months, but that is a sign of how stable the ROMs are. Also, HDMI still works with it. I haven't tested Webtop as I didn't have a dock. I just received my RAZR dock, so I'll have to try out Webtop tonight and see how it works, unless someone else can attest that it works.

Im on Eclipse 1.5.1 with safestarp . So far great battery , buttery smooth performance . I flashed the Razr M launcher with circles widget and loving it. A very stable ROM so far. If ur on Safestrap try it on one of ur ROM slots . MIUI is still under dev , once its stable it would be a great option too. I am going to trying Black widow now on another slot.
I'm using Simplex Revival as my daily driver and I have been for about two months now. I love it so far, great battery life, and with the UC/SC/OVERCLOCK script that is with it it makes it easy to save battery life or get better fps playing games.
But with everything Android it's all about choice. I found this list of roms a while back I hope it helps you as much as it has me.

Yes! I liked how both the eclipse and simplex sounded as far as stability. Either of y'all have issues with MMS? That seemed to be main thing i was bothered by because i use my MMS several times a day.
Also, yell find they are easy to customize and devs steady coming out with cool new stuff and themes for them? I know thats main reason I'm excited about a stable miui coming out for my phone...i am all about customizing.
I'm also wanting to get more out my battery and simplex, eclipse and black widow sounded like you get significant gains with that.. i am over having to take a charger everywhere :-/
