Hello,
Atrix is available in France for 287 euros and I'm thinking it's a very good price/perf ratio.
But having a look on the threads some criticals aspects appears like heat, android GB2.3.4 only, and high brick risk when modding ?
So I'd like to have some atrix users opinions/comments ...
I like the HTC sensation XE too but for now it continues at 450 euros ...
Other phones are good but with some criticals "deffects" like : non removable battery, no sdcard, etc ... so it's not easy to make a choice ...
Thanks in advance !
Its well capable mobile have an hand in any where in the world..good battery life compare to other android in market..gonna get legal ics after july...dont think it lets try it

If you have large hands, then the Atrix will feel like holding a toy. If I were you, I'd wait for a better phone or save that money for something better. Personally, I don't think this phone is worth anything at this point. There's a high chance that the digitizer will break on you. This is my third Atrix and my last two had problems with the digitizer. I personally can't wait for my contract to end so I can get the SGS3 and never come back to Motorola again, ever.
hmmm... thanks !
I will think about that ...
but I have small hands, it's a point ...

Keep this in mind also: if this phone were really as bad as some people make it sound, these forums would be absolutely flooded with complaints. The fact that this is not the case should tell you that the Atrix is, overall, a very good, solid, reliable phone. I wouldn't have stuck with mine for so long if it were the flaky, unreliable mess that some people imply that it is.
With motorola's latest move - id caution against getting an Atrix (even though I've owned one for over a year and loved it!) Motorola is now making the Atrix to where you cannot flash .sbf files. This means no unlocking of the bootloader... no re-flashing an .sbf file if you screw something up and need to completely wipe things out and start fresh again (above and beyond a factory reset) You may be better off with an Atrix 2 or something else that's similar.... I hate giving this type of advice.... But, I'd hate to see you pick on up thats locked down tighter than a nun!
The Bionic doesnt use sbf's either. We use FXz which is basically the same thing
I actually bought one 7 days ago. I had hard time unlocking it, but It worked and I have custom bootloader and neutrino rom. That being said - out of the box, there was motoblur (which I find heavily anoying) and it was considerably slower. Now I can easily compare power with my friend, which has stock Galaxy S II, but I paid almost half his price.

you can do everything that needs to be done with fastboot, there is no need to use .sbfs / rsd support protocol, reflashing .sbfs to atrix has been discouraged for over a year now, due to being many problems that can occur in the flash process.
Hardware wise it's solid. Software you get Gingerbread now, ICS later. If you unlock the BL, and go the custom route, then you truly have the best of both world in terms or hardware and software...

There are still times when sbf's are necessary - the only reason they were cautioned against is because so many ppl failed to follow directions properly and borked their devices... mainly flashing froyo sbfs over gingerbread.... to those who know what they're doing with sbf's its not a problem. Without sbf capability - you cant unlock the bootloader.... no custom roms.... period.... except a pseudo rom.... which isnt a true ROM.... more like a theme...

ok i dont even know where to start... I dont usuallypost that many threads *****ing and complaining about my phone.. but enough is enough...
I haven't rooted...(well I did a while ago BUT)... I took part in that beta testing update crap so it unrooted me.. but these problems I have been having are since the LAST "update" which was well over two months ago now (I THINK)...
1st problem I am having is randomly I cannot input text into ANY thing on the phone... I am using smart keyboard pro.. but even when i change input methods it still does not register anything i am typing... in fact when i switch the phone to landscape mode the text box goes dark grey...
2nd also when this happens... nothing will happen when i attempt to make a phone call... i click the name .. nothing happens.. i go into dialer... i cant input the number i try other methods of dialing out nothing happens....
those are the two biggest problems I have as I need to communicate with my clients all day long i cannot have this type of inconsistency.
ohh and also the finger print scanner just plain doesn't work when i go through the process of setting it up.. it wont even register the "test" swipes... its like its broken all together.... any one else having ANY of these problems?? please help me
I've never had any of those problems ever and I've had my atrix since launch date. Maybe you have a deffective device call and see if your provider will do anything about.

to be honest... and i know it sounds pretty stupid.. but... i really dont know how to flash the sbf... i know what it is followed the thread on it when it first came out... but never put the effort into figuring out how to actually do it... and right now i just don't have the time to sit down and do that.... (lazy.. it is what it is) but that could very well fix my problem i guess right... ugghh
ok
good luck sell me ur atrix I need a second one for testing purposes
If you feel adventurous enough, try disassembling the device and reseating the LCD/digitizer cable.
I had an issue with a Samsung galaxy s vibrant about a month ago that would register touch inputs when it was just sitting on the table. I did what I suggested above and the problem was solved.

If you took some time to read, your problem would already be solved.
1. Your digitalizer may not be working well. Guarantee will cover this.
2. SBF from scratch to discard a software issue.
None of the issues you are experiencing is related to the phone being a dual-core mobile or not.
I've been able to solve some problems by reading and taking the advice from the forums.
If your Atrix looks ****ty, it's not on it. Mine shines!

C'mon man, flashing an SBF is simple! The instructions on XDA are very detailed. I am a lifelong Mac user, and even I figured out how to flash an SBF via Windows. It would not take more than a couple hours to download all the stuff you need, and re-flash an SBF. What's your build number now?

It´s really a great Android Phone in the mid-class. And with croms you can get a really good phone placed even in the segment of Desire in performance. However, it doesn´t have adobe and camera flash.
I think Qualcomm and Adobe have announced that Flash will be optimized for the MSM7x27, the processor included in our Optimus One, so maybe it will have Flash soon
Yep, it is a great budged phone with pro features.... also there are workarounds for adobe and camera flash....
1) for adobe flash: adobe said that it is working in a optimized version of flash for msm7227 chip (armv6 cpu) that our phone has.. but if you want flash desperately right now you have two browser that can handle it: Skyfire and Puffin (it uses cloud computing to view flash websites)
2) The camera flash: there are plenty pocket flash lights and if you search well you can find a flash light that has better leds than many phones, also there is a accesory that is called Universal camera Phlash
It doesn't have camera flash, but you can easily take pictures for cheating on exams . And someone else said it very well, there are good if not great developers , who have this kind of phone.

What about the dust getting under the screen problem? Has it been fixed by LG?
Do they just clean it and give you every time or is there any permanent fix for the problem?
you are asking owners of p500 so we will say it's worth And I agree with them
About the dust - cleaning is for free if you have warranty (definetly in EU), but i haven't heard if LG did anything with this issue in newest series
(sorry for my english)
So you mean to say that the problem still exists in the latest phones too?
Also you said that they will clean it. I want to know whether that problem gets fixed after visiting the service center once or should it be taken to the service center time and again to clean it?

Someone said they put somekind of cover underneath the screen at the service center, so the dust doesn't build up anymore. But I don't know for sure. It was posted in the thread about the dust.
So my friend gave me his Samsung Galaxy 5.0 (I think it's USA?) today, and I was wondering what I should do to it. I own a Nook Color and have CM7 running from an SD card, but I'm pretty sure it's different for the Player. I think I would rather not root it and would prefer a custom ROM, but I'm not sure how/which one to pick. I found JoyOS, CM7, and CM9, but I don't know which one I should get.
Unfortunately, my friend dropped it a few days ago, cracking the screen. The screen and touch screen still work, but it's cracked and annoying to work with. He never got the warranty, but is it possible to get the glass replaced?
Alright, I've managed to get CWR installed using this guide, and from there I installed JoyOS and it's working pretty well so far.

Your gonna find that a lot of the tips and insight for this particular device are hit or miss. One key thing to remember is that this device is not a phone so the temptation to leap into things may be a bit higher than with your phone (taking the root/rom route on your phone carries a higher risk, so more people that would not normally go this route are). That being said, there are some serious threads and some "not so serious" threads, good advice, and not so good advice. So use your best judgement and ask if your really not sure on something.
Now that's out of the way, your gonna find that the Gingerbread based roms on this device are all relatively stable with minimal bugs - try all of them is my recommendation! The ICS ones, some that are still in development all have some issues one way or another. This is gonna be up to you and your uses for the device to decide whether or not the bugs are ok for you. The Cyanogen based roms are pretty spectacular if their limitations work well for you.
Do research, read, read, read and you'll begin to get a general feel for what people are liking and not liking. I am a pusher of trial and error, but only if your comfortable with continually modifying your device. Flash on my friend and have fun!

Thanks for the advice! I think I like messing with this than my Nook, there's a lot more stuff to do instead of "put this image on your SD card and you're done." I finally got the market to upgrade to Play in JoyOS and replaced the boot animation, and I'm enjoying this one so far. I think I'll give LewaOS a try tomorrow.
So, does anyone know if it's possible to get a screen replacement for this? Or is it better just to get a screen protector and hope this doesn't get any worse.

Yes, you'll have to send it to the nearest Samsung Service Center.
They will replace it for you, but without a warranty you will definitely be paying out of pocket.
I can only speculate that it would cost you somewhere in the range of $75~$100.
Please, do not quote me on that figure! I am only guessing, but I can't imaging that it's a cheap fix.
Considering the obsolescence of the Galaxy Player, I'm not sure paying for a screen repair would be worth it.
Call Samsung's Service Center and get a quote.
But, if the cost of repair is more than the half of the device's value,
I would save the money and get a more technologically current device that is WIFI-only.
Stock-based ROM
I would recommend you flash a stock based ROM unless you know a lot about Android, because non stock-based ROMs have a lot of bugs.
So I need to send my Atrix back to Motorola and need to flash a .sbf file in order to relock it (running CM7 for now).
I've read tutorials so I'm not concerned about the procedure but more about which .sbf file I need. My Atrix was bought from ibood.de so it's probably coming from Belgium or The Nertherlands.
Any idea of the version that is used ?

Do they always lock it ? Don't you think it has to do with the fact that you send it unlocked ?
Sometimes they don't permalock it, but most of the time they do. Just assume it is going to get locked.
That's super ****ty. And there's nothing that can be done to unlock it ?
I mean, I don't even think that is legal, they just can't change my product if they want it. It's mine now and I want them to fix it not to change it.
Not only do they cancel ICS but they would now stuck me with stock rom !

You can blame all the media corps and their desire to control media consumption for that. The primary reason for locked bootloaders has a lot to do with companies and groups like Netflix, the cable industry, MPAA/RIAA, etc. not being willing to allow their services if certain protectionist measures aren't put in place.
As for locking it and it being legal? They can simply give you a replacement and it be locked and claim it was cheaper to swap it than fix it. What's worse is that there is a growing debate over who owns devices once purchased and devices purchased on subsidy could be used as being considered owned by the carrier or manufacturer and only 'leased' to the customer. Now that's what I'd call pretty s****y because if they get away with that then we'd own nothing which is ideal for any company on the ownership side of the deal.
And sorry for being a little off topic but it's definitely something that will only get worse before it gets better.

That may be true for the US but I'm European (so is my Atrix) where Netflix and cables companies don't have any kind of power on that level (for now) + the UE tend to make laws to prevent those situations.
So can I hope that lock issue is US-only ? Did it happen to non-US users ?

By the way, in case any of you were wondering, I'm coming from the LG g3 (ls990). I like the smaller screen, the fingerprint reader is very responsive, I dislike the moved volume buttons, dislike the audio jack being moved to the top although it DOES sound better, actually a good bit clearer. It feels really good in my hand but does get hotter than the LG g3. The material on the back has a good grippy feel almost, it's not particularly slick which is a good thing. I could hardly use my g3 with the stock back because of how slick it was. The cameras are PHENOMENAL. All of the picture modes provided are outstanding and not just gimmicks in my opinion.

JCase claims to have a root method already but refuses to release it... even with his rep I doubt his claims.
If the bootloader is unlockable, it should be relatively easy to do.
I also have the Sprint version. The only thing that's keeping me from getting it rooted so far is the inability to get it into Fastboot to flash a custom recovery.

Well bad news from Tmobile - I currently have the sprint ls990 LG G3 and decided to make the move to tmobile for the G5 because I was sick of locked bootloaders. The tmobile g5 does indeed have an unlockable bootloader however, LG seems to be using a custom bootloader on the G5 that wont flash anything that isnt verified. Tmobile's G5 already has a TWRP build and noone can flash it because of dm-verity. Essentially the tmobile appears to have an unlocked bootloader but lg has changed the bootloader so that it cant flash anything. That's the current status and I should add that I have not been able to try anything for myself because my phone hasnt arrived yet. But if that is the case on T-Mobile, then it's going to be even harder on Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.
its locked but there's an unlock switch in the developers' options.
I came from lg g3 as well. Massive improvement and loving it so far.I have it thru verizon. Hoping for root soon that's all I really care about.

It saves them a lot of time and money. Any noob able to root and unlock could accidentally flash the complete wrong system and recovery resulting in a pretty hard brick and if they allow rooting and unlocking then they would be kind of obligated to help them fix it. Even if they said it voided the warranty then they would still get tons of calls complaining.

That just doesn't make any sense though, if I buy a laptop, and or a desktop, and I install Linux and then it blows up, they're just going to tell me LOL sorry too bad. Same thing should go for phones. But if something unrelated to the software messes up, I would expect them to cover it no matter what, just like on my laptop, while I am not running the original OS software that came with it, they honor the warranty for the headphone jack breaking. Because that has absolutely nothing to do with it. The point is, if I buy something it is mine, I should have an absolute one-hundred-percent administrator privileges on any device that I can purchase. If not I need to get an extremely heavy discount for not truly owning the device.
But this is getting off topic, the whole point is that we really need to get the G5 rooted, because it honestly would be the best Android device out there if it was rooted.
Imagine this thing in running cm13, it will be perfect. Good camera, type c, replaceable battery so that way it doesn't have a finite life span, micro SD for super music users like myself. And upgrade modules , it's the future.

That just doesn't make any sense though, if I buy a laptop, and or a desktop, and I install Linux and then it blows up, they're just going to tell me LOL sorry too bad. Same thing should go for phones. I think it mostly has to do with them not wanting the end user to be able to modify the device to get around things like paid hotspots and such. Carriers like sprint that have unlimited data but a paid by the GB hotspot plan potentially lose lots of money off of users getting it free with root. Also you probably have an ISP that rents you a cable modem. Those things are locked down and while you can buy your own - their locked down one, if modified can potentially increase speeds or bypass a meter. I think that ISPs (including cell carriers) like complete control so they can grab every penny and make it difficult to escape their grasps. Once again these are just my assumptions so I could be horribly wrong.
