[Q] Step By Step Tutorial for Rooting with ALLinONE Tool? - Sony Tablet S

I just took a look at ALLinONE and realized there are a lot of different options and I'm not sure what all of them do.
My S tablet arrives tomorrow and I want to root it safely, with the "backdoor" option in case something goes wrong.
I would really appreciate it if any of you could tell me step by step what I need to do this. I have ADB installed already.
Thanks for any assistance you can offer!

If ADB is already installed, just run the latest AIO tool and follow the on screen instrutions for root, thats it !!
from xperia PLAY

Any news on rooting the 3g model

Sadly, my Sony S is, unfortunately, build 10 ... Not sure I'm going to keep it. It pisses me off that Sony locks their devices down so tightly and I'm stuck with all the "system software" (i.e. bloatware) that they put on it ... (sigh.)

[Q] Root method for latest update.

I've recently acquired a Photon 4g and would like to root it. I've been using guides on XDA for a while now. Ive been rooting since the g1 and I've tied every method available for the Photon to no avail. I have the latest update so I think thats why the tordpedo method isn't working and I've tried both AIO roots with no luck as well. Can anyone give me any advice as to what I can do or point me in the right direction? Been searching the forum and google and I can find anything.
Side note, is it possible to downgrade and then root? Been searching downgrade on the Photon and again... no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You don't need to downgrade to root it. I used the one click AIO root on the latest update with no problems. And fyi you also need to unlock the boot loader on the photon, its not like how on other phones where once you root it your done.
Here's everything you need to know http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20331544

Wrong, just for this person to ROOT the phone he/she doesnt need to unlock the bootloader.
For them to root the phone you need to before running the AIO root you need to enable USB debugging on the phone.
To enable you go to settings >> Applications >>> Development >>> then enable USB Debugging..
Good luck chances are good that this was your issue.

I also used shabby's AIO one click. I bought my MoPho and activated it. I think it happened during activation, but may have been right after, it updated immediately updated to the latest firmware. When I set up one of the things I did was enable USB debugging. When I rooted it worked perfectly first try.

I used the method described by qbking77 in his youtube video.
Go to youtube and search for "qbking77 photon" Its one of the videos that gets listed.
Hope this helps.

I tried that. I've installed the proper drivers. enabled debugging and it still won't root my phone. I've been rooting for a while and I followed the instructions to the T.

You're not giving us info to allow us to help:
- Error messages?
- Screen shots of your PC's DOS window?
- Was your Photon new out of box? If not, hard to tell what may have done to it. Maybe flash back to stock.

I guess you don't understand what I'm saying. On other phones when you root them that's all you have to do to run custom roms. On the photon to run custom roms you have to unlock the bootloader unless its 1 of the 2 roms where you can be locked. I didn't say you had to unlock the bootloader to root the phone.
No problem, just seemed as bad advice compared to what the OP was refering to.
He was having trouble rooting, he is obviously new and it seemed that telling him to unlock his bootloader was only clouding the issue.
He/she was having trouble rooting, so what would cause that? Certaintly not the bootloader.
Im at work so i dont have my laptop to give the exact error but ill give a brief explanation from memory. I installed the 32 bit drivers on my laptop running windows 7. I ran the aio and when it says thanks to creator(i forgot who but my version doesnt say edgan) i make sure o have debugging check and proceed. It recognizes the phone and runs fine up until it says erasing all your ****. Then it reboots and says device not recognized repeatedly then says you should be rooted.

Thanks guys for all your advice and help. I found my problem and I'm now rooted.
For anyone interested in the solution. I switched laptops from one with windows 7 to a xp laptop and every time the AIO said it was rebooting I unplugged my phone until it was fully booted then plugged it back in to be sure the program recognized it. Worked on first try with new machine.

Hello XDA Members!
I just changed from galaxy mini to sony ericsson live with walkman.
The phone comes just out of the box.
It has android 2.3.4 installed with sony ericsson firmware 4.0.1.A.0.283.
So what do i want to achieve with my new phone?!
1. root acces
2. update firmware to 4.0.2.A.0.62
3. install cwm to use it later for installing other roms
4. flash a new kernel to use link2sd and move apps to sd-ext like on my mini.
So anybody out here willing to give me hints to achive the above mentioned points?
As i am from germany the phone offers me an upte to 4.0.A.0.69! Is it possible to maintain the above achievments with this update?
Thx for any support!
hi and welcome to the sony world!!!
so first let me ask you a basic question is your phone branded sim locked??
Thx for welcome.
No the phone isn't branded / sim locked.
Its a stock sony phone which i bought from amazon here in germany.
Great then the easiest way to root it is a custom kernel rom.
So first you will need to unlock your bootloader; you can do it in two ways:
1.- the offical way here http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ you will lose drm and be unable to use the official track id app from sony.
2.- the test point method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285285 you will not lose drm and track id and be able to update your phone with seus no problem. in this video http://www.google.com.mx/url?sa=t&r...tMG1Bg&usg=AFQjCNFe_MgteNSvfQYkgBoh7rwpwSVoAQ it shows you what points to use and you can do it with a paper clip it seems hard to do but it is pretty easy.
Take into account unlocking your bootloader will void warranty and may cause damage to your phone bla bla bla. You know the same thing from always.
i think this is the first step if you do it and need more help let us know or if you don't want to let me know and i will point you to some good threads for modding your phone without unlocked bootloader.

That was only about unlocking bootloader, which is needed if you want to install custom kernel and/or ROM.
For rooting, I have written a tutorial to root, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792. First root your phone and then make Over the Air update(directly from phone via 3G or WiFi) to newest firmware(which is .69 in your case).
Root will stay if you do OTA update, PC Companion/SEUS will remove root.
Also CWM installation is included in my tutorial.
Installing custom kernel is not yet in tutorial, but I will explain here.
First unlock bootloader like written in previous post. Then download the kernel you want, you will need .img file. Next, if you don't have it yet, then download Android SDK, because you will need fastboot. Move the .img file to the same folder as fastboot(C:\...\android-sdk\platform-tools), start Command Prompt, enter the following command
Code:
cd C:\...\android-sdk\platform-tools
and then
Code:
fastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
Replace C:\...\ part with the path to android-sdk directory and boot.img with the correct file name. Mostly it is boot.img, but can be different on some kernels.
thx, again a member willing to help my!
So happy.
I wont to do anything wrong. As you explained i first should root the phone and then install the latest firmware.
So i downloaded this file DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip.
This will do the following
[*] This script will:
(1) root ur device using latest zergRush exploit (21 Nov)
(2) install Busybox (1.18.4)
(3) install SU files (binary: 3.0.3 and apk: 3.0.6)
The text goes on with
[*] Before u begin:
(1) make sure u have installed adb drivers for ur device
(2) enable "USB DEBUGGING"
from (Menu\Settings\Applications\Development)
(3) enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES"
from (Menu\Settings\Applications)
(4) [OPTIONAL] increase screen timeout to 10 minutes
(5) connect USB cable to PHONE and then connect to PC
(6) skip "PC Companion Software" prompt on device
I am confused and blind
Where can i find the adb drivers?
just install pc companion and it will install the drivers for you once you connect your phone for the first time that's all.

Just googled
Thats the software i get for example from sony page hxxp://www.sonymobile.com/de/tools/pc-companion/ .
Am i right?
If so, then i am ready to root my live with walkman. Finally
yep you are right
Yeah got it!
Superuser is in list for apps.
Now i will start the firmwareupdate ota.
New question again
Why can't i connect to my fritzbox via wlan without my simcard plugged in? I get an error out of reach. If i put my simcard in, i can connect to my router.
My old mini didnt bother if the simcard isn't plugged it.
It still connects to the router.
never heard of anything like it. maybe it's a bug of the firmware?
Update
Firmware 4.0.2.A.0.69 installed, Superuser still there.
So what should i do next?

Managed to enter cwm

Hope that is the latest one.
yeah it is well there is a 5.5 version but i have only seen it in 1 custom kernel, by the way don't try to flash any custom rom with it or you will have trouble ok.
Enough for today.
Here in germany it is 8pm (twenty o'clock).
Time to chill now.
Thank you very much to my 2 supporter helping me managing the first steps.
Hope you can help me again when i go on.
Wlan still not working without simcard inserted. Any Ideas what could be the problem or is that a normal behaviour?

Yeah if i understood right, i have to unlock bootloader first flashing a custom rom.
But now with cwm installed i am able to backup my rom and restore it if i need, am i right?
On galaxy mini we werent able to back up the stock rom via cwm.
yep you are right. As of the odd thing with the wifi and the sim still no ideas.

[Q] Root ICS with New Lelus method & Offline Flash - Newbie question

Hi thanks for looking.
I'm a new register and newbie to rooting. And I'm currently following
[ROOT ICS L9 GUIDE] Root ICS with New Lelus method & Offline Flash [11-Mar] guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173465
Unfortunately, I'm a new user register so I can't post on that message thread. So, I was instructed to post my question here.
So, I'm following the guide word-for-word from steps 0 - 8 and now I'm up to the part where it says to "When done, REMOVE USB CABLE AND POWER OFF THE PHONE."
Okay, now question:
[Q]1: For step 9a and 9b. When do I actually perform these steps:
So, currently my USB cable is removed and the L9 is power off from the above step in STEP8.
9A. says to Add lines in "hosts" file as mentioned in step 1 of this post.
So, I'm going to assume that I add the Hex-Edited BIN file and related KDZ file that I've downloaded in STEP1.
But where do I add said lines to?
[Q]2: okay so for step 9b. Start "SmallServer" as mentioned in step 2 of same post.
Where is this "SmallServer?"
In step 2 of the same post, I've already Downloaded Root_and_Flash_Guide_byCMahendra(date).zip file (attached with this post) and extract in your C-Drive.
and gotten three folders named "C:\RootLelus" and "C:\RootFlash" and "C:\shttps"
[Q]3. Okay, now that I'm just advance reading to STEP10 that asks to follow Steps 3-10. Does that mean now I have to reconnect my phone back to the PC from STEP8 and go through the steps 3-10 again, since I've already gone through it the first time around.
[Q]4. the Actual Magic.
So, which LG UPDATE TOOL is the step 11 referring to? Is this when I'm installing the driver to my PC in Step 3? Or is said LG UPDATE TOOL sometime during step 4-8?
Sorry, for all the confusing NEWBIE questions. I'm just trying to follow all the steps without bricking my new phone.
Thank you in advance for your patience and assistance.
-Peter Wong

OKay, sorry... another question.
So, I'm now flashing with the PHONE UPDATE TOOL and after going through all the steps and the 'MAGIC' swap. My phone reboots and when it turns on I get an error message:
[Driver Software Installatior
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed.
OMAP4430 Device unplugged]
Please let me know what I did wrong and at which point in the process do I need to repeat all the steps again to root my phone.
Do I go back and use the [GUIDE] FLASH L9 Factory ICS/JB ROM WITH OFFLINE FIX + UNBRICK
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36351786&postcount=1
And start with STEP7 and rerun the PHONE UPDATE TOOL and MAGIC swap?
Thanks in advance.
Hmm I remember getting a driver installation error when trying to put the phone into 'software upgrade mode'. In my case, I held the 'volume up' button down and plugged the USB cable into the phone. Then I got the error notification that the OMAP driver didn't install. Yet right after this, another set of drivers installed (I'm guessing the computer took a minute to recognize the different mode of the phone?). These new set of drivers installed successfully and I was able to root with no problems.
tl;dr I disregarded the OMAP error, and rooted just fine with no problems
Have you checked if you got root after flashing? If you do have root, then you should be fine.

Protomartyr,
Ohhh..so that error message isn't the cause of my phone not being able to successfully root, huh? No, my phone still isn't rooted. Basically when my L9 is successfully rooted is when all default icons on my phone are gone right?
So, a couple new questions then.
[Q]1: Okay, I know when it's time to flash you have to hold down the volume button and then plug in the USB cable into the phone. How long do you hold the volume button down? I hold the button down until the phone turns out with the S/W flashing message and then I let go. Do, I need to hold down the button throughout the whole flashing process?
[Q]2: How can you tell if the phone is rooted? Does it look different?
I'm guessing my phone is still haven't been rooted and I'm only getting this error message.
[Driver Software Installatior
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed.
OMAP4430 Device unplugged]
So, if the above error message isn't the cause of my failed rooting. At which step do I go back and reattempt to root my phone?

You wouldn't see a difference once you rooted right off the bat. You should see the SuperSU app in your apps list if you followed the procedure. However, having the SuperSU app doesn't mean you are rooted (SuperSU binaries must be installed as well and this requires super user privileges).
To check if you have rooted successfully, the best way is to just download 'Root Checker' here (Click Me for Link)
Once you install Root Checker and open it, you should see a notification asking for Root Checker to get super user privileges. Accept the notification and you should see 'Root successful' or something along those lines.
Let me know if Root Checker says 'successful' or not, and maybe we can troubleshoot after that?

No problem. Congrats on getting root :highfive:
As far as removing bloatware safely is concerned, you might have to ask someone else (I'm still a newbie at these things). You can remove/disable them using Titanium Backup (from the app store). Proceed with caution though, as you don't want to remove an app that the phone needs to function. From what I hear, it's safer to just disable unneeded apps (though even then you must tread carefully). Titanium Backup is also useful for backing up all your apps/system apps/user data.
As far as what you can do with root...well that's like asking how many drops of water are in the ocean You can fully customize your phone and even install a new ROM; just naming a few. You can get a better picture of what people are doing with their phones in this thread [Click Me] as well as the other LG L9 threads.
Enjoy!

You can root this device using the method described in this thread.
Thanks again for everything Protomartyr,
You've been really helpful. Okay, another question. So, now that I've rooted my phone. Do I now go back and turn on the Lookout Security Antivirus, that I've had to turn off during the rooting process steps? Or would I need to allows need to leave it off to keep my root active?

Cannot root xperia U

Hi
First and foremost thanks to anyone that helps - another user helped me get mine out of a bricked state so im grateful to say the least.
Where im at:
Unlocked bootloader.
Ive tried to root it using the flashtool but that give the appearance of working but doesnt. Then i found out it doesnt work on post 2011 models, which i have.
Ive also tried using the exploit using the runme.bat to install the hacked restore file - again it goes through the motions but doesnt.
Also tried to get a pre rooted firmware file on there - it says to install in fastboot using adb from command line but that just sits there saying waiting for device - if i reboot the phone and do an adb devices the phone pops up as a listed device so i know adb is working ok...no luck there...
So, ive tried every way that i can but no luck...
Information from the phone is:
ST25i
Android 4.0.4
Build: 6.1.1.b.1.54
Im reasonably practiced in reflashing phones but this one is the first xperia ive done/not done.....so far
Cheers
Comfy
I think you need to reinstall all the drivers carefully & uninstall any 3rd party app like bluestacks if u have
I m not earning money by helping you so if u think I gave my time so pls press thanx button
Nope - nothing to do with that - i got there in the end....i reflashed to this firmware...obviously after unlocking the bootloader and using the flashtool - used the 64bit version as im on win 7 x64
ST25i_6.1.1.B.1.10_O2CZ.ftf
then i used the runme.bat tool which then worked. I thought id put it in writing then anyone else who has the problem will come across this thread

Complete noob and new to Androids!

Hey peeps,
Am totally new to android as I have only just binned my iphone contact and got a Ultra, the issue am having, I am reading and reading and getting nowhere fast
I would like to root my phone but I seem to be getting stuck in an endless loop which I don't know how to break!
Phone is brand new, no contacts, nothing, I just want to do the following, which I would have thought would be in this order,
Backup the TA (As I have read and read that this will save the DRM keys, which once lost are gone)
Now, I read to backup the TA, I need to root, to root I need to unlock bootloader, to unlockboot loader you have to root all of which then I read is warnings that you can lose the DRM's
Arrrghhhh
I have the flashtool installed
Am on .757
My bootloader is locked but unless the .757 update changed it I was able to unlock it but everything I have tried and read doesn't work
I have my unlock key as well, and I have vague idea's what I want to do but there are so many threads and everything seems to loop back to to root, you need unlock, to unlock you need root to flash you need root lol am going crazy.
Am not sure why am struggling so much with following the guides but I guess it's cause I have zero experience with doing this.
any help would be greatly appreciated
Yeah, I'm not surprised by this at all; and welcome! You have to downgrade to 532 using Flashtool, then root, and then backup the TA partition. You're free to upgrade to 757 again after that, unlock your bootloader and root 757.

Thanks for that info mate, so far that's made more sense than searching all of these posts
Am thinking about two steps in this guide to downgrade
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2593918
First one seems very simple, but second one seems to flash them back to solid stock from the look of it.
Once downgraded,
I thought you require bootloader unlocked before you can root, and from what I read you need root to unlock/backup, or have I missed something?
(hopefully will be back to 532 shortly after files finish downloading.

Hey mate, yesterday i had successfully root my XZU with locked bootloader and no backup TA or else, because I'm not yet decided to unlock.
Currently your device is locked or unlocked bootloader?.
Perhaps i could help you.
Currently mines locked.

Just do as has been said a thousand times...
Downgrade to .532 - see my downgrade thread
Root using either [NUT]'s dual recovery or bin4ries tool - see thread in step above or LordManhattans guide
Backup the TA - see LordManhattons guide
Upgrade to latest FTF
Unlock bootloader
Root using jackies099's kernel
...
After hours of reading and searching around and trying to follow what LordManhattan said.
I have the phone down to 523.
I now have the bootloader unlocked
Just not sure on the rooting of the phone..
With Flashtool can I simple press the Lock key and root it that way? I don't know the difference between Superuser or SuperSU
Or do I have to do it another way?
I have looked at a number of rooting options and am unsure what to do, one way the links on the guide didn't work others are little confusing!

The order you have done it in is just wrong, so wrong... But what's done is done
Now that the bootloader is unlocked just flash a 757 FTF and install jackie099's kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714511 and then flash SuperSu from recovery
Did you just skip backing up TA partition? Because if you did, that just defeats the purpose of downgrading

Morning peeps,
No atm I stopped at unlocking the bootloader after the downgrade, I have tried to run the Backup-TA-9.10 app but it fails on detecting Root cause obviously mines not rooted.
So regarding backup am not sure what am supposed to do, as all threads seem to point to that you require root to backup o.0
blueether I have read so many threads my eyes feel like they are going to bleed, like my original post stated, it seems to be a loop I was getting stuck in.
I cant backup without root from all the threads comments
I cant root without backup for safety and bootloader unlocked, and to unlock bootloader it seemed I had to be a specific version namely 532 to unlock.
So I have got somewhere, instead of pulling my hair out going no where
I hope the way I have moved forward doesn't or hasn't caused any possible lose of keys etc, so the question is, how do I backup before trying the next step of root?
Read post 6 above, follow all the steps in tat order
Sent from CarbonROM on my Z-Ultra
Blue I was going to use the Binary link but cant figure out how to download it, it mentions in the post to ask members for a working link if you have difficulty.
Do you have one by chance?
Thanks!

Hey dude, what's going on? .. have you successfully root yet?
Which step is you dont understand to ROOT? .
Done the downgrade!
2.Root using either [NUT]'s dual recovery or bin4ries tool - see thread in step above or LordManhattans guide
Its the above, gone to Bin4ries post, the links don't seem to download for me? so cant get the tool to do the root
3.Backup the TA - see LordManhattons guide - should be able to do that, its working to the point of seeing it's not rooted, so not worried about that part!
4.Upgrade to latest FTF
5.Unlock bootloader - Already done by mistake thinking it was done easiler :S
6.Root using jackies099's kernel
7....
The thing I have noticed as well atm which am slightly worried about, is my sim card says invalid atm, hoping that changes when it's all finished

Lol, you shouldn't unlock bootloader =.=" if you only required ROOT =.=".
if you worried, flash stock rom and redo to root?
Well am confused and lost atm.
Point 2 and Point 6 to me, are they not the same thing?
Trying to carry out Point 2, I cant get any of the software it seems as I cant get the links to work
So atm I have a phone working but telling me my sim is "invalid card - no service" currently
Any help for links to the Nuts, or Binary software would be grateful

the sim/imei problem shouldn't have happened if you followed my guide, but dont worry, it will come back after step 4
for step to use http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=WlUtbG9ja2VkZHVhbHJlY292ZXJ5Mi43LjEyMy1CRVRBLmluc3RhbGxlci56aXA= from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647492 and follow the instructions in post 2
Step 2 is only so we can get a backup of the TA so that it is safe to unlock the bootloader
Step 4 when you update to the latest FTF you will lose root
Step 5 will allow you to get root any time you want without having to do the downgrade dance
Step 6 is needed because the stock kernel wont keep write access to the system. This step also re-installs recovery so that you can flash the superSU update binary
Hi Blue,
Feel like am getting my self further and further into the **** with this
I was able to find bin4ries tool after searching on the net for awhile, and used that as advised, which has worked and didn't seem to be a problem, the SU appeared etc.
I then did the Backup which again has gone fine.
I updated what I thought was the latest TFT C6833_14.1.b.2.257_euro-lte.ftf from one of the links but looking at the phones version am still showing 532
That's the stage am at with still the sim/imei issue
I have downloaded the link you have provided for the lockeddualrecovery looking at it, I get options to
1. installation on ROM rooted with SuperSU
2. "" "" " with SUperUser
3. installation on unrooted ROM
4. exit
at this stage am not sure what to do, as I thought getting all the other steps completed now would have solved this.
Think am starting to regretting trying this and feeling like a total tool!

OK so you are past step 3 now and you have a rooted phone with a backed up TA partition.
Step 4
You will want to flash https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B51NBUj0yr7FNmtzWlhrT2JaOU0&export=download with the lates flashtool from https://unrestrict.li/flashtool instructions are in LordManhattan's guide I think
Step 5
Unlock the bootloader - see LordManhattan's guide again
Step 6
Follow the steps in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714511
Hi Mate,
