Bootloader? - Motorola Droid RAZR

I've got RAZR coming in the mail, which I'm pretty excited about, and I'm just curious if any of the devs here are still working on unlocking the bootloader? I know Moto locked it down pretty hard, and considering the current bypass ability I was just wondering if it is even still a goal. I've been reading through here pretty diligently and don't see any current threads in its regard.
I know it's pretty easy for me, someone who knows very little about such things, to ask "how's it coming along". I'm not trying to be ignorant. Just wondering if this phone will ever reach it's full potential with stable custom ROMS.

As yet there is no way for the bootloader to be unlocked despite several people looking into it as it's heavily encrypted. People are waiting in hope to see if there will be an option when we finally get an official ICS update as is rumoured.

Why were they able to root and unlock the boot loader and everything else on the thunderbolt so quickly but yet no one can do it on the atrix?

Sorry, I don't know.
Because it's not locked or signed?
There's seems to be some discussion regarding it being locked or not. Engadget wrote an article about it being locked but there are a lot of comments from readers with evidence to the contrary.
With it being broken so fast, I believe it wasn't locked or signed.
Um. The phone is not unlocked. In fact the devs were in for a surprise to see the phone has signed bootloader. Signed karnel. Everything is sihned. Which is a furst for htc phone . The only thing they managed to do is root it. And they already did with the atrix. Once you have a signed bootloader and karnel. There is not much you can do.
The article was posted new today or yesterday at engadget. And nothing happened since then.
Its safe to assume all companies right now will use a locked bootloader and karnel. They dont want you to keep your phone. They want you to update.
So basically unless an employee leaks the codes we are s o l.that really sux.

Android police is reporting that the Bootloader has been unlocked.

Exactly and since the bootloader will never be unlocked on the Atrix then its going back next week. Suck it moto!
Right. So like I asked earlier, why were they able to unlock that one and not ours?

Yea I'm in the same boat, I might just go back to my captivate in the next week. I really like this phone but I don't feel like much progress is being made. I know there are a few busting ass trying to crack this thing but that doesn't necessaraly mean theyre making progress. Although they did get a copy of that unlocked/deencrypted phone from ken so maybe we'll see something soon.

most android hackers are on verizon, because they went in with android first. the least amount of android hackers are on at&t. also, they had better resources, they were leaked a beta bootloader that was unlocked, and also a previous ruu image (like sbf but for htc)

I don't know the true reason, but historically, HTC phones are more "open" and "hackable" than Motorola phones (excluding the original Droid). It's just a different company policy more than likely. Is this policy different with the Thunderbolt? I'm not sure...
there is a definitive difference between 'Locked' and 'Encrypted'

Verizon Bootloader

I am about to upgrade my phone, and Im eyeing the Play, however, will the bootloader be unlockable(or bypassable) on the Verizon variant? Since I got a DROID2, that's a must have feature. Any help would be thanked greatly.

Unlock is not possible yet on CDMA Xperia phones. It's currently being investigated, and hopefully solution will come soon
Well, is root and flashing roms similarly to the Droid2/X/X2 possible?
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA Premium App
Nothing of the sort is possible but everything is being worked on.. We are all waiting.
Yes. Its possible. The difference will just be whether we find people willing to do the work. If all dev work stopped now, the process would go like this: wait for new root exploit, root phone, use second init process to boot cm7.... Just like the d2 and dx

People are trying to work on getting the bootloader unlocked, despite SonyEricsson not willing to give any help to the CDMA variant folks (R800x). The document you pointed gives pretty much the universal variant of how to unlock and root for all of the R800 series _EXCEPT R800x_ (which is what Verizon carries). Since you can't unlock the bootloader, you can't currently flash a new/different ROM.
So for now, people are working on it, albeit slowly. Don't expect a unlock/root method in the next day, but it will happen eventually. I know I'm eagerly awaiting it.
I'll work on that too when I get the phone.
I believe Verizon's phones aren't unlockable because Verizon wants total SW control over device.
I'm patiently waiting as well.

Droidx2 THEORY and Explanation

Ok so p3 said "Good Morning, and hang on to that DX2 folks: It will get an update and looks like its going to be 2.3.4 - no eta though." in theory what this means is that it might have an unlocked boot loader, if so, we just have to be patient this is only a guess and credit to finding this post goes to "quadjacks" again this is true speculation on my part...
______
and for everyone wondering why the cwm for dx2 hasn't been released by me is because the restore feature can't mount the sd card, after this issue is fixed it will be released, if not i'll still probably release it soon if the dev of this app doesn't get back to me
Have a good one

Not sure if it's a truly unlocked bootloader or a work-around to custom Rom's from what I've been reading. I could be wrong. I think the only way to get a true unlocked Bootloader is from Motorola and it looks like that's never going to happen..

Except... That's exactly what people are saying WILL happen when Gingerbread comes. OR at least I'm pretty sure that's how the Atrix got it's unlock. It even had the "Warning" from Moto about the warranty violation.
We'll just have to wait and see
Hopefully it happens soon so that I can keep this and not spend 200 on the bionic or tbolt

Moved to proper forum.
I doubt this means unlocked bootloader. It just means that a lot of the glitches/problems with the X2 will be resolved with this update, as well as the system utilizing both cores effectively. It should resolve the majority of issues X2 users have been suffering from. Now, considering p3 mentioned it, it does lead me to develop the idea that p3 has obtained a leak of the update and will be releasing within the next 2 weeks. The IT'S update is speculated to be here by the end of August.

Since a method hasn't been discovered yet, I doubt it will happen without a leak from Motorola. Try out Peetr_s hybrid ROM (located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587770). That's what I'm using since I'm stuck on 2.3.5 as well, and it's much better than stock. Sorry to say that I doubt anyone is really going to put much more effort in finding a work-around for our bootloaders or a way to crack them. Once Motorola said NO to us regarding ICS, many people jumped ship.

[Q] ME7 exploit status?

I hate to ask this, but, I am curious as to the status of the VRUAME7 bootloader unlocking. I haven't seen any status updates since the bounty thread was closed. I'm aware root has been achieved, but seeing as I just got my S4, I'd like to experiment with different roms a bit.
Thanks.
Agree
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. If anyone has any information about this that would be awesome!
I hope soon - with over $5k in bounty, it shouldn't take long. LOL
It better be soon because I'm so sick of not having TWRP lol. 5k bounty should be more than enough!

Agreed.
I'm debating whether or not to return this for an MDK version, because I really don't want to wait for shipping, and I've been really impressed with the S4 coming from an iPhone.
I think I'll just wait.

I came from an iPhone 5 too and tbh I'm glad I did I love this phone and I was on MDK when I got it but I updated like a dumbass. Not knowing that I had just sealed my fate for ever having custom ROMs and recovery. Oh well.

Hi im new to the forums and pretty knew to modding phones, but i was wondering the status of this as well? and when any of the developers here on the forum think that maybe the bootloader will be unlocked? A family member passed away so i kinda of inherited the phone and i want to use it since its newer and better than mine but they had updated it to ME7 so im stuck now i guess until they can crack it Also i wanted to ask if since that might take a while, if its possible to like reset the phone to factory settings and would it put it back to MDK maybe? or is there a way to like flash it back to MDK or something so i would be able to root/unlock the bootloader then? If not its fine i guess ill have to wait. But i had cynogen on my old phone (the original droid lolz) and it was awesome so i was hoping i could put that on the S4 as well and get rid of all this crap bloatware on it too. Well thanks a lot for all your work nice to be part of the community now, so i hope they keep working on this and keep us updated ^_^

I tried to flash it back thinking it might work but it didn't all it did was fail and leave me without a phone until I flashed ME7 again.

ahh damn that sux sry that happend lol. soo much for that idea i guess lol T_T what about restoring it to factory settings like through the option on the phone itself? Will it just like reset and wipe everything but not rollback the version? Thanks for your response and with the bounty being so high and they managed to get a root for it pretty quickly i really hope they can unlock the bootloader so we can put custom roms on it soon :/
Useless thread...
Don't you think the news will be all over XDA if anyone does unlock the bootloader of the S4?
Hint: It's not because they haven't managed to unlock it yet and probably never will.

The best we can hope for out of future updates is that they have a vulnerability that's easier to find than whatever's still waiting to be discovered in ME7 (if any such vulnerability is hiding there).

Yes and you do realize me winning the Powerball 25 consecutive weeks is more likely?
I believe in the devs here, many are working on it and too much time has passed w/o results, I believe if some exploit were possible it would have been found by now.
Sorry to be pessimistic but I think Samsung got it locked permanently and forever and, sorry to say it, but this probably means all future devices will arrive permanently locked down. :crying:
I'd sure love to be wrong about this.....

the motos got unlocked over 6 months after release, and that was considered by many to be completely impossible. Seeing this phone is more popular I think the chances are better, just will take time!
I put in an RMA with Negri electronics, and they're going to exchange mine for an MDK phone. Really should have done my research before updating...
