Sony's techs have made a gift to Xperia users by lowering the write denials on /data directory, allowing some simple exploits to work (see DoomLord's works in Xperia forums).
Have someone taken a look at the mounts and permissions set in the new released ICS ?
No,but U can try it,i just use HTC phone
I wouldn't ask if I could do it myself...
My tablet is HC 3.2.1 kernel #10 (unrootable) and ICS official release hasn't reach France for now.
Mounts check and looking for write permissions are the first steps of a root-searching process. I don't expect the Xperia exploit to work on our tablet but if Sony give some air to Xperia, why not to tablet S too...
So if you've got ICS, you may find usefull to type "mount" in an adb shell and navigate a while in the file system. If this means nothing to you, wait until someone does it and hope for success.
sony is not willing to see TabletS rooted because of PS Certificate?

Don't know if there's a link but that could be a reason.
Must recognize that tablet S is a good product on the security side...
So it's not the easier device for geeks or rooting maniacs

Sorry but this isn't a good translation,
I tried to re-do the translation to understand it myself the ~~ says what i don't understand but i'll give it a try:
1. Since you have Kernel build 6 you "Can" root your tablet,
2. And there is a guide how you can do this,
3. You must have a working ADB
- If you don't understand this you must first learn more about this you need google drivers for the STS and you need the Android SDK tools etc.
first make this all work and make your device compitable with your pc,
then try the rooting steps.
will have some link or tutorial?, my pc if you recognize my tablet because the roots had with honeycomb and honey When I upgrade to official ICS lost the root

So if i''m right you lost root after updating from a rooted 3.2.1r2 and flashed a non pre-rooted version of ICS,
Then i have to tell you that you won't be able to gain root anymore,
you had to Preroot the Signed update zip ~after downloading the UK ICS update~ and then flash it,
now yoú have a kernel above 8 is it?, but like you said you have build 6 so you still can root your tab,
alright its simple just try the AiO tool from Condi
Click here < Warning! reading is a must, so try to use other translations too, since there are some lines that will not be translated correctly.

root xperia tablet s with 4.1.1 from factory
hi, i have a new great tablet S and it has androd 4.1.1 installed from factory
how can i root this version?
i have been trying with S.onyTablet.S [ALLinONE] v5.3
but i cannot root, when i choose 1.- root the device it says "waiting for the device"
im sure i have the usb debbuging selected.
as a note: i have never seen before the option "app to debug" this an option below from usb debbugin, when i select it, there is nothing to select
i guess this is a new way to avoid the communication with adb. as my opinion
i dont know how can i root, because i need the ad hoc patch
thx bro

So you downloaded the flasher but didnt read any of the faq or the op you would have seen that the bootloader is lock after realase 6a and is not rootable
Sent from my SGPT12 using xda app-developers app
Instead of asking random one to unlock it why not flood sony's forum instead asking about it while stating that sony allows this already for sony mobiles.
nothing gonna happen here because people here can't wave their magic wand and unlock the device.
Please check this tread it realy works on 4.1.1
for better help iss this Threads http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2268646;)

The easiest way imho is vroot.
Search xda for it, there are threads about it.
You will need a windows computer to run vroot on.
Good luck.

That was the root kit I used on my 321 tab z. Don't forget to backup DRM key before unlock bootloader.

DooMLoRD's tool is for earlier firmware releases and will not work with Android 4.2.2. Use the Vroot tool instead. Search this forum for information about the Vroot tool.

Thanks Xperia Tablet Rooted:good:
firewall of china
I purchased an xperia tablet z and I've had a lot of fun with it. It has its issues. But what's bothering me most is that because I bought it in China, it does not have access to any of the google services. So, no PLAYSTORE. And I am not a techie either. I looked into what rooting is and what flashing is. I was wondering if I could somehow root the device and install a new firmware from some other country... (or maybe its a new kernel.. I don't know what the difference is!) would I be able to run Google services ??
I have seen some devices here in china that have access to google services. So I know that it is possible. Just don't know how. HELP! And ya, I tried downloading Vroot and it took me to a Chinese website! Root"dashi".... in Chinese. And I don't think rooting is sth I can figure out in Chinese language. Can I get a link for the English version of it?
Details on device:
Sony Xperia Tablet Z SGP111
Build number: 10.3.1.C.0.136
Android version: 4.2.2
Kernel version: 3.4.0-g7eaf37a-01078-g2ebac89.

You should be able to flash a firmware from a different region.. Also make sure the firmware you flash, matches your tablet specs for example if your tablet is wifi only, then pick a European wifi only firmware.. if it's a 4g model then pick 4g European firmware.. Good Luck...
Rooted and enjoying google services!
Thank you for replying to my post. I was able to root my SGP311 android 4.2.2 with Kingo Android root software. vRoot works too.
But after that it was quite complicated. hard time installing CWM recovery. Trial and error until i was finally able to flash the japanese firmware. it took me back to and 4.1 which was great because now i finally had the tablet UI and could access small apps like it was meant to.
Thankyou all developers at xda for making it possible.
Hi all, I drunkly ran into the sea with my Nexus 5 in my pocket so that is long gone.
Next week I'm thinking about investing in an xperia z ultra, however I have seen and heard of many of the methods used to root it will capture your IMEI number and use it for malicious reasons.
I was looking at following this guide (presuming my phone software/firmware will even be compatible) and just want to clarify it works fine with no danger.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569904
This is the link to the phone I'm looking at buying
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-Xper...68398?pt=UK_Mobile_Phones&hash=item35cff8fe2e
If I cannot root the phone, I will not be buying it as adblock is a must for me, and if xposed works then I'll be delighted also.
Can someone please help clear up my confusion?
Thanks!

That would work, or there is a dual recovery installer(CWM and TWRP)that you could use if you want recovery. Whichever you use let the phone update to .108 firmware then run it, if you unlock your bootloader be sure to back up your TA partition beforehand.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...de-root-android-4-4-4-ver-14-4-0-108-t2801587
As the ever helpful @adfurgerson said. EasyRoot is the best tool or [NUT]'s recovery installer. They both use the same exploit.
Any other questions just ask, after searching
Thanks guys :fingers-crossed:
For me the easiest one I use is the Dual Recovery installation files. It has an option to root and install dual recovery all in one.
I used Flashtool for rooting, few clicks and done.
Then i flashed dualrecovery and GPe ROM :good:
