[Q] Email addresses not loading - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
My brother pricked up a galaxy s 2 yesterday for a new job he has and he needs email on the go - he's not at all familiar with technology so has been slow to get a smartphone but now has no choice. I have a nexus myself so am familiar enough with setting them up. Have managed to add his email account via the built in email app and email sends and receives fine. What it is not doing though is either suggesting an email address when you put in the first few letters or remembering an email address that i have just sent to. I downloaded the gmail app and added a new account to test it on this. Same problem whereby it is not remembering the email address that i have just sent to. I would appreciate any help as he is flying back to Brussels later and needs this for his new job
Many thanks

I don't have this, too.
So only way to get this work is creating a contact.
It will fill up when start writing.
Also u can try other email application (like K9) but I don't think that it is working...
So maybe ur brother create a Contact named f.ex. "JOB" and in this contact he add all the important email adresses... (just an idea)
Hope I helped.
CHEERS

Hey thanks for the reply - i just switched him over to gmail altogether as i couldnt get the other apps to work at all. I know he'll have to type the email address at least once before its saved even in gmail but i think the app is better than the stock one.
Cheers

Patch for email.apk to allow Yahoo Mail over wifi

I've been browsing the web for the last couple of days trying to get out of buying a Yahoo Mail Plus account so I can check my Yahoo Mail over wifi. Anyway, I just stumbled over this in the Alldroid forums. This guy has created a patch for the email.apk for the Droid that allows you to check your Yahoo Mail over wifi. Anyone want to see if the lines are the same in our 2.1 version of Android and create a patched email.apk for the users of the Nexus One? Here's the link: http://alldroid.org/threads/16279-Email-with-Yahoo-IMAP-support
I take no credit for this other then searching for a way to be a cheap skate. Thanks to anyone that can help and possibly create a new patched email app for those of us using Yahoo Mail.
I'll gladly 2nd this request.
I had basically sworn off my sole Yahoo account b/c I can't stand checking ONLY while on Cellular networks.
Thanks in advance for anyone with the know-how to figure this out

Just log in to the Yahoo Canada website and enable the pop server. It will still pull yahoo.com emails (at least it did...).

Nope, the Yahoo Canada site still requires Yahoo! Mail Plus for POP access and forwarding. (At least, it did for me.)
However, I'm not fully certain if this would work, anyway. It appears that Yahoo!'s servers are blocking IPs that do not come from the pool reserved for mobile operators. Unless this patch is a way to force connections to Yahoo!'s mail servers to go through the cellular data connection, and use the WiFi for all other network connections when WiFi is available. (That would be the more likely avenue.)

fyi, I just download the 2.1-update1 version from the thread you linked and adb pushed it to /system/app and it appears to be working fine (can't test the yahoo thing as I don't have/use yahoo).
fwiw, I didn't have Email.apk to begin with (always remove it after flashing).
I was going to try pushing that one tomorrow when I get back to my copy of adb. I'll post how well it works. Maybe we can get it added to the roms if it works.
I tried it, and used the following settings from this page:
http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/15600-yahoo-imap-hotmail-pop3-settings.html
IMAP Setting :
YAHOO IMAP
Incoming IMAP Mail ServerSetting :
User Name : [email protected]
Password : your email password
Incoming Mail Server : imap.n.mail.yahoo.com
Mail Box Name : Yahoo IMAP
Mail Box Type : IMAP
Security (Port) : Off
Port : Default
Outgoing IMAP Mail ServerSetting :
Email Address : [email protected]
User Name : [email protected]
Password : your email password
Outgoing Mail Server : smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
Security (Port) : Off
Port : 587

Totally works over WiFi !!!!!!
CONFIRMED. works here.
Although I don't think push/check frequency is working. I have it set to 5 minutes, email myself from my Gmail and still nothing, that was about 15 mins ago lol
Anyone have a fix for that? thanks!
Just adb pushed it to my phone using the same imap settings that I was before and it totally works over wifi! We should get this added to the roms as a patch. Definitely useful for those of us that use Yahoo Mail.
i'd rather use SEVEN instead...it's almost instantaneous.

I imagine you're talking about this site: http://www.seven.com/index.html
- Which currently does NOT support T-Mobile, unless you sign up for their BETA program.
- Their BETA program requires you send an SMS message upon activation and for each email account setup...To their Isle of Man location, which would incur international costs, especially since I don't have a texting plan.
Are you using this, with Yahoo? Can you give more detail?
Just change your yahoo settings to Yahoo! Asia and everything works fine.

Remove your SIM card before adding your first email account to avoid sending the international SMS. You will need a Wi-Fi connection.
But there is a bug where it will keep the phone's awake time 100%, see the android section in seven's beta program forum for more info. (requires registration to access)
I just set-up the SEVEN app, and it rocks.
And I didn't need to do the SMS thing either.
You can download the software directly to the phone.
I tested it with my standard free Yahoo account, sent myself an email, and received it almost instantaneously.
Why this isn't all over every Android forum, I don't know.
Small tip. If the app FC's after initial install, just reboot the phone, and it should boot fine.
yes it rocks...
the notification icon also differentiate the emails account.
Push doesn't work, I've email myself multiple times from my gmail to my yahoo, with the fetch interval to 5 minutes (guess it's not push after all)
Am I using the wrong server settings?
If anyone has push/fetch working please PM me or post in here for others to see! thanks
Just wanted to let anyone know that cares that I uploaded the patch to CM's github yesterday and it's already been approved to be included in the next version. So, as of ver 5.0.5.3+ it should be included. YAY!

the email.apk works fine. The patch is to trick yahoo into seeing your wifi connection as a mobile connection.
Yahoo doesn't allow access to their mobile site through wifi, only through a cell carrier.

Best email app? POP and gmail?

I'm looking for a basic but functional email app for pop and gmail. The only requirement is really support for pop accounts and gmail. Live account support would be a plus but not required. Also it needs to clean up after itself. Like when I delete an email instead of leaving it in the trash I want it to empty them. Don't want it to ever delete emails from server unless I specify it in settings.
OK. I just named a bunch of requirement. LOL
By the way, free or really cheap also. Whatever the default email app in Task 14 Fat is haa all my wanted options except for emptying the trash when I exit it or even if I could just press one button to empty all trash it would be great.
TIA

I've yet to find an email app on tablet that I would like. I use inomail on my samsung galaxy s2 phone but it doesn't work as well on tablet. I've tried k9, maildroid, moxier mail, kaitlen mail, enhanced mail, stock email and touchwiz. I want something similar to email app on my iPad but haven't found anything so far. All the email clients I've used works but I didn't like the ui.

Can I suggest an alternative that makes the gmail app better, and makes email much easier to work with?
Instead of having the app aggregate your different email addresses, have gmail do it. I have 7 addresses (work, school, personal, spam, other work, old, and really old). Gmail checks the pop addresses every 10 minutes or so, the others just forward. Then I set a filter for each (to:[email protected]) to tag it. Make the tags different colors. When you load up the gmail app, you'll see the tags (so you can immediately see which email address it's coming from). Advantages: 1) never mess with more than one email address no matter what computer/phone/tablet you use; 2) shared address book; 3) security; 4) ease of use; 5) awesomeness.
You know what? I've thought about it for a while now, so I'll make a how-to post about it. I'll link when I finish.
A how to would be sweet. I also use too many email addresses so this sounds like a wonderful idea. I've just been figuring out too too many thing lately to really want to hop about this without complete reference in one place. Thanks mate for the idea even if you dinner get around to the how to.

Virus on my Lumia???

Hi Guys,
I have recently installed the 12070 F/W on my Lumia 800 phone and last night an email was sent out to all 500 contacts that I have for no reason. There was an email attachment in the form of a web address which, when opened, brought you to a page in a magazine called Business Journal.
I am really worried this morning. I need to email all of my contacts to warn them of this. But what do I do with the phone, do I have a virus on it? If so, how did it get there and what do I need to do to remove it??
Guidance right now much appreciated.
It's nearly impossible to send something from wp7 without user interaction.
I think that your PC is a victim or someone guessed your password to e-mail account.

I doubt that something can send emails from your WP7 without your consent. Your contacts are also saved in your Live Account accesible from your PC. It could be possible that something has logged the Password on the PC and sent to a third person. You should make sure that your PC is always equipped with the latest antivirus. Also you should Keep in mind that Windows Live offers to sent you an one time Password via sms in case you Need to sign in from un untrusted PC.
It's absolutely impossible it has something to do with the phone. My guess is that someone got your Windows Live password and sent it from there...
Change you password asap
Done today, thanks. I was so surprised. I guess if someone had the password they could have done this online in my account without me knowing. First thing I knew was 66 undeliverable notifications on my phone late late night

So it was also sent to every Contact in your Live Account and/or Google Account. I guess someone had access to one of those.
Yes the mail was sent to every contact in my live account. It was simply a link to a buisness journal wzine as far as I could see; not a virus but a spam message. I have changed my password to access my LIVE account in th ehope that this will end it.

It's your email account that got hacked. Happened to my friend too, and he has an android. It's not your phone and possibly not your laptop either. It's your live account that got hacked by spam or virus.
actually not impossible
I also think that its impossible to mail/edit through wp phone api, making it nearly impossible to make viruses in traditional terms. Also for marketplace there are are some virus scanning made of apps on submission.
However app behaviour is another thing...
Think about the following scenario:
You install a smart dialer (for example) that requires access to contacts, owner identity and data services.
Without Your consent and knowledge the app harvests and sends of information from Your device.
The sum of all is that: yes, it might be a app on Your phone that is behind the mailing as well as it might be malware on your pc.
Don't install apps from unknown developers that requires more permissions then what seems ok.
Thanks for all your replies.
Seems like it has been an attack on my windows live mail account. Have changed password and will now do so every 90 days or so as recommended by microsoft. I have also checked all apps on my phone and there are none that i can see accessing my contacts. But I will continue to check.

There is no API for sending emails without the phone owner's confirmation so it is impossible. Though be careful when giving your email to websites (and apps too) as they can use it to send spam. Sending email from any address does not need a password.

Well, I wonder why there's a need of email client to do that again you can forward the email which was sent previously to the employer !
Because it takes time to search in the sent folder 4 the mail with the CV

E-mail client with text formatting on Android, how?

Hi,
I am coming from Apple world, now I am an happy user of a Samsung S6. But I was writing an important email when I realized that my favorite email app, Gmail, was not allowing me to make a word in bold or to create a bullet list..crazy!! I checked online and unfortunately didn't find anything yet.. I tried the stock Samsung one and Outlook, both very nice but nothing there too.
Now reconsidering to go back to Apple again..but not before to ask in the XDA forum..
Do you have any idea for solving or why in 2015 there isn't this feature enabled per default yet?
Thanks in advance!
Fabio
