Has anyone been having issues with Titanium backup "hanging" during batch restorations? There seem to be certain problem apps for me that pretty consistently cause the issue. Where's My Water is one of them.
Typically, what I see happen is that the batch process will hang on one app until I force kill TiBu. Then if I go back and run the batch restore again, and choose Restore Missing Apps, it will not include the app that appeared to cause the hang (the app did actually get restored). This seems to be happening more and more often for me, on multiple devices - not just the tab.
I have tried changing to the "indirect" method of restoring in the preferences, but it still hangs.
Does anyone else have issues like this?
Thanks
Same issue. For the problem app, I can restore the app only then data just fine. Can't do both at the same time.

Thanks for the feedback...
So you do app only batch restores without issues? And then a batch restore of data only? Or are you doing this as a restore of a single app?
I will have to give that a try next time I flash a new ROM.

I've had the issue on other devices before. You could try going to preferences in tibu, change 'processing mode' to 'indirect', and try again. See if that helps

Thanks, lollee76. I actually did try that and it didn't seem to help. I filed a help request with the developer to see if they have any ideas/suggestions.

Same issue here - clearly not limited to a certain device - I've got the same issue on my EVO 3D. It's always Where's My Water, Sam's Club, and NFL'12 that hang up like this. Maybe next time I'll try app only then data only in 2 separate steps. But would like to hear if any feedback from TiBu developers...

I sent my support request in several days ago and haven't heard anything back yet. I am always amazed at how frequently the app gets updated yet the issue persists.
I have tried the app only restores combined with using the indirect method pogroms the preference settings and I still have the same issues...
A new version just came out.
This is my first attempt at using it. I only rooted my P7310 today and wanted to do a Ti backup after doing my nandroid.
All I get from TiBkup is an FC on start. Not sure if this is the same for others w/ the new release or whether I have a bad system. Given that the new release is dated today it may be that this is a new issue.
I'm using stock 3.2 w/ CWM. My next step was to add 'motley V2d' but now I'm a little hesitant due to TiBkup not running.

I actually ran my first successful restore under cgmod last night. I did a restore with apps and data without a freeze. Granted, none of the offending apps I have had issues with in the past were included, but but this may be progress for me, at least...

TiBU v5.2.0.1 fixed the FC issue. Not sure if it will fix yours, spiff. GL
Problem solved by latest update! (so far)
Hey all,
Just wanted to post an update to the issue. I got another update from the market today (5.3), and one entry in the changelog grabbed my attention:
Version 5.3.0 ============= - Fixed an old bug that caused app restores & Market Doctor to hang while processing an app that had apostrophes in its name.
It was the stinking apostrophes in the names! This explains where's my water, Sam's club, and NFL'12. Not sure about flight control for me, but I successfully restored that one today too.
So get the update and give it a shot next time u flash a new ROM!
Thanks
Jeff

Hey guys,
I just got my replacement prime today. Got it updated and rooted successfully, and everything seemed alright. But when I installed Titanium Backup and my Pro Key for it, I get the following notification "titanium backup failed key check with google", and the app only runs as the free version. I know the key is good, as I've been using it on my phone for months with the same account as what's set up on my prime, so that shouldn't be an issue. I don't really know what might be causing this though.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue, either specifically with the Prime, or in general, and what might be causing it?
Make sure you're connected with wifi. Some paid apps do a market check to make sure you have a legit license.

I have the same problem. What date/time settings should be changed ?
THANKS!
Finally! Took me like 4 hours trying to fix this! Thank yoU!
Hate to bring this thread back from the dead, but I'm having the same issue. Can someone explain the "fix date/time" fix?
I also have the sae problem and would appreciate any clarification regarding the date/time setting fix please. Thanks in advance.
no thanks to the cryptic d-bags that posted before, but I finally figured it out. I had to change my Android time zone to Pacific Standard and restart Titanium Backup. I assume this is because Google is located in that time zone and Titanium Backup is looking for that to confirm the pro key purchase. Changed back to my normal time zone and its still working as pro.
Try upgrading to Pro key v1.3.0
Hi,
Try to upgrade to v1.3.0 of the Pro key - it resolves a long-standing problem with apps (such as lucky patcher) corrupting the license data coming from Google servers. The new v1.3.0 should be immune to that now.
Btw: you can use any timezone you like - as long as your date/time is set, you won't need to worry about it!
The past few times I've done a full titanium backup (All apps and system data), it will reboot immediately after finishing. It has done it on 2 different ROMs (Flex and Mean). Anyone having this issue? Did I miss the change log for TB and this is now supposed to happen?
You should avoid restoring system data, especially across different roms. Only user apps/data.

Thank you - yes, I typically do not restore any system data, but I do back it up just in case and also - I am a pack-rat.
Just to clarify - I am getting the reboot after the backing up of apps/data - not on the restore.
Ah, my mistake. Did you try un installing and then reinstalling titanium, then run the backup again. Or maybe creating a new backup folder?

Titanium is reinstalled whenever I flash a new Rom, so at least one of these instances it should have been a fresh install. I have not done anything with the backup folder, I like that idea. I think I'll dump all by backups and create them all again. Thanks for the idea.
Yea, I've had to do that before, it sucks, but sometimes things get corrupted.
"We're coming from a pure power source"
Update: one backup in particular was causing it to bring the while phone down. It was the wifi access points saved by titanium.
I noticed this was the last thing it was backing up before the reboot, and also ran the verify backups batch run, which turned up the bad backup.
Deleting that one particular backup did not make a difference. Had to manually go into the wifi settings and "forget" all the networks I don't use daily, and then it would make the backup just fine without crashing.

Nice, glad you figured it out
"We're coming from a pure power source"
Searched high and low and couldn't find this thread, so figured out essentially the same solution on my own after couple hours of running batch backups and reboots. Backing up the xml version of WiFi Access Points and only if WiFi was actually on was the culprit, but the reboot usually happened 1-5 apps after it, so it took me a while to pinpoint the exact cause.
Figured I would just uncheck it every time I run a full batch backup, but your solution of forgetting unused APs in WiFi settings did the trick for me. It must have been some public AP with a weird name that Titanium didn't like. Thanks again.

BIG thanks for figuring this out - was having the same problem with HTC One S, and it was driving me mad - I have a PIN on my SIM card, so every time it backed up during the night, the phone sat at the PIN entry until I entered it in the morning...meaning my phone was "offline" for a few hours!
In my case, I found it was actually a duplicate SSID that seemed to cause the problems - not sure how it got in there, but was probably when migrating backups from one phone to another. The duplicate only seemed to cause problems for the XML backup - deleted it, and all is well!

I've had this problem for awhile now myself, have written to Titanium Backup support twice now and they still haven't responded. How Rude! Especially since I'm a paid customer and I told them this was causing my backups to fail.
Like y'all I was able to determine it was the XML version of Wi-Fi Access Points that was causing the crash, but since there's no easy way to exclude just a single file, I had to create a FILTER I named "Not Excluded" and added everything except the Wi-Fi XML file to it. I then used that Filter in the scheduled Backup job. The only problem with this method is I have to remember to manually check for new items I've installed and manually add them to that filter group myself or they won't get backed up.
I can't believe they won't address this issue for us, particularly when their release notes say they did so for another model phone.
Oh and unfortunately, I did try the suggestion here about removing/forgetting the open Wi-Fi networks saved in my list but that didn't help. It still crashed on that one file.

Hey guys, I just ran into this problem and I figured out how to workaround it without having to add new apps when needed. Instead of creating a filter that includes the XML WiFI Access Points, I excluded it. After I created label, I think it wasn't until I backed out, came back in, then (maybe) created filter did I see the invert option in regards to the label. So I checked it and the label, then I noticed XML WiFi's weren't even listed in main list as I had it filtered (excluded), then I selected the filter (didn't try label) in the scheduled task, then voila! It worked! I just wanted to share so anyone with this problem can utilize this solution.:good:
This solution actually worked for me on my Galaxy note 2. I Could not figure out why my phone would reboot after running TB every night. I deleted both WiFi entries and ran the backup with no reboot. Thanks
Afternoon guys,
So i've just updated from ICS (XXDLI8) to JB (DLJ4), used the download from samfirmware and Odin, then factory reset in the phone so that my internal SD was completely fresh/new, all good so far, but afterwards, when I tried to restore the backup I had made in ICS of my SMS/MMS, instead of grouping all my messages together in a single thread per person, it had a separate thread for each individual reply... giving me over 4000 threads O_O
Has anyone else experienced this? If not, I guess there might be a glitch that occurred during flashing with Odin and i'll just re-do it in a bit
I did the same thing but mine worked perfectly. Just try again and good luck
Hmmmm
Ok, so i've just wiped and re-flashed the ROM with Odin, restored my messages and the exact same thing has happened, every message has it's own thread... I was hoping a re-flash would fix any glitch but it doesn't look like it!
Anyone have any ideas?
I had the same trouble with all JB Roms I tried, asked the same question and got no answer/fix. So for now I'm using CM10 based rom's and no trouble.

It's a bit frustrating! But at least it's only SMS/MMS rather than something OS breaking haha. I guess i'll just have to live with it!
Wow, finally I have found this thread....... oh, and I guess im not the only one having this issue then.
Yep, same here. I flashed a rooted stock rom (DLJ4) too and same issue here. I restored all my messages but the conversation/threaded messages are no more.
I did reflash a few times but to no avail.
Can someone please advise me and the OP.....
Many thanks

Same ROM?
Also, I have just recieved a few messages from someone and all three messages show up seperatley!!
Forgot to mention, the SMS app I am using is the AOSP (google)one.
As you guys have figured out, My Backup sucks sometimes for backing up and restoring SMS messages. I flash various different Sammy JB ROMS fairly frequently. I would suggest using a dedicated program. I've always used the free app called SMS Backup & Restore by Ritesh Sahu, and have never had any problems.
Use titanium and use the .xml restore methods in future
AOSP SMS on Samsung based ROMs has that issue. Happened to me on Dragon ROM when I chose AOSP messaging. Worked fine when I flashed again, this time with stock Samsung messaging app. Try reverting to Samsung stock messaging and check. Who knows, it might resolve the issue. Good luck.
Alternatively, you can use SMSBackup+ to backup your messages and call logs to your Gmail account. Works like a charm for me. You won't need to restore the messages as they are just a click away.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Really appriciate the responses guys.
Just to clarfy a few things.
I have been using "SMS Backup & Restore Pro" (for a while) and it has always restored my messages without any issues (threaded messages restore properly). These were usually ICS Roms and "AOSP" JB Roms.
So I'm guessing its not the app itself. Having said that, I will try the app someone mentioned a few posts above- which links to Gmail. Sounds good.
Also, the person that mentioned about Titanium backup, I think you might have the answer.....I usually restore all apps and settings via Titanium. When it gives me the option for XML or Snapshot (I think), usually I choose XML but this time I chose Snapshot. So, I will reflash again and restore with Titanium but this time choosing XML. I will let you know if this works.
Finally, the person who mentioned about reverting to Stock Samsung messageing app, I have tried it but still get the same issue.
Thanks to all of you for responding and for your suggestions. :good:
I will get back here once I have reflashed. :fingers-crossed:
Thank you
ok guys.
I have flashed a few different Roms now and still have the same issue.....even with the samsung messaging app.
This is really frustrating me now!!
@ Slaphead20, can you advise me on how you did the .XML restore?
I tried but can not seem to find the option.
The option after I flash a ROM where it asks me whether I want to choose XML or snapshot doesnt seem to have appeared with the Roms I have been flashing. (Omega/sotmax & Haldric)
Hi, well tbh I just tap on the titanium loss for each one and restore, so I'm going to check in the preferences menu and see what I might of set up to get it working.....back in a bit!

I can't find the exact setting, so it might be a case of having to delete the titanium app settings backup that it creates on ext sd and re configure the app, but in the menu there are two relevant entries but I'm not messing with them to experiment as all is working for me......and if it ain't broke........ ..
Edit: SOLUTION: Go into Advanced wifi settings and disable WiFi Optimization. It appears that the function disrupts the WiFi connection which disrupts the upload. The tradeoff of disabling it is your phone uses more battery while idle on wifi so I make sure I only disable it before bed and re-enable it when I wake up and the upload is done.
Edit: SOLUTION 2: I read somewhere on Reddit to take note of which app the upload fails at. Delete the backup of that app and manually make a new backup. After that it should sync fine. I've tired this and so far uploads to Dropbox and gdrive have been completing successfully.
So for the last few months every time I try to sync TB with Dropbox, box, or drive it immediately fails with the message "Upload Failed: Network Error". This happens on every wifi network I've tried. Been searching the Googles for a good while and See other people are having the same issue. Someone suggested that it fails because of apps that exceed like 180mb in size. I have since excluded those apps from the backup but still no deal.. Has this issue been resolved yet? I figured it would fix itself but it's been months and I'm becoming frustrated.[/QUOTE]

It's possible that your Titanium Backup file exceeds the amount of space available in your Dropbox account or your Dropbox upload limit.

More times than I can count. This has been an issue for months now. Started on my last phone. When the problem persists over multiple devices, multiple ROMs, and multiple installs I can't help but believe it's the app. Especially since I'm not the only one experiencing this.
bump
I've been having trouble with this too, but only since I got my new HTC One a few weeks ago. Before that, it always worked fine with my Galaxy S3. I have yet to complete a full sync with my One.

I have encountered this from time to time on all 4 Android devices I have used. Sometimes it's just a network timeout, and rerunning the backup (sometimes multiple times) usually fixes it. Other times it may be a particular file that kills the process. The problem is that the app messages disappear when you try to access them.
Generally, at least for me, eliminating the offending file, either through labels or deleting it (if it is defective or doesn't belong in the backup directory, and happened to have been saved there).
If there is a TitaniumBackup log, I haven't found it, and I don't know whether or not the logcat would reveal anything.
Dumped down the innertubes from my Asus Transformer TF300T
I've tried deleting and excluding backups that are more than 250mb and had no effect. Nor does retrying the upload endlessly.
Same issue for me on Dropbox. Box works but Dropbox fails everytime. Getting a server error everytime.
So lame... In the mean time is there a way to get one of the automated task apps set up in a way that it can upload the tb folder to cloud on schedule?

It is annoying that we are unable to access the error notification as well, anyway
i followed the advice from the guy above saying keep rerunning it multiple times, and it does it bit by bit so have got there in the end, thanks to good ole XDA forums
Just a shame i didn't receive any support at all from an app that was happy to take my money
So after todays update, forget about the network error.. Now I'm getting the Insufficient Storage error so cant even do a backup on both my devices. This app is just trash now a days. Sucks there is no comparable alternative.
I'm also struggling with this. I've tried a load of different options with no luck either. I'm hoping we'll find a fix for this sooner than later.
I will say though that I was able to sync to GDrive at one point. Just lately, its been giving me a lot of problems.
I have an issue that I cannot pinpoint the cause of figure out a solution to. Maybe someone here can help.
My Sprint G3 is always crashing and rebooting the launcher (phone doesn't turn off, just closes evwrything). I'd be in the middle of any app and it will randomly close every single app. The running apps page always displays after every crash. It's as if too much ram is being used, but it will happen even after a fresh phone restart and launching something simple like WhatsApp.
My phone is rooted via the Stump one click method. I don't have any type of rooted mods enabled, only Adfree. I use Nova launcher (paid & updated).
Is there some sort of event viewer that will log the activity of the phone so I probably someone here can see what might be causing the phone to crash? I'm tempted to Unroot and restore back to stock... But if I can avoid that, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks. I've reverted my adfree hosts file and uninstalled it. But I think the issue persists. If I try to use any app that clears cache, specifically Clean Master, when it's doing the scan of apps it'll crash midway through the scan. If I go to system settings > Apps & wait for all the downloaded apps to load the details, it'll crash there too.
This is the oddest thing.
Edit:
This visual may help. It's a video of me running Clean Master & seeing how it just crashes. I can replicate this issue every time like this, but the crashes are random when using other apps.

Ok, so I began uninstalling some apps that I thought may have been the issue... Which they weren't as the crashing still continues. I decided to reboot under safe mode and the problem occurs there too.
I honestly cannot recall if this began before or after rooting with stump. I may have to Unroot & factory restore. =/

I'm at a loss... The 2 things I mentioned can be the culprits, but not for you I guess. Some other ideas?
Did you uninstall Stump after getting root?
Have you froze or uninstalled any system apps/ priv-apps?
It might even be Nova is having issues.
That's all I got.

Thank you for your help. Nova was one of the apps I removed. I did remove the stump app after rooting & did not freeze/remove any system critical apps/files. I'm also at a loss.
I would try a restore to stock as the final option. If that doesn't fix it then I dunno man.

I plan to do that this evening. Was hoping to not restore to stock... It'd always a pain setting up themes & apps again. Lol.

Pssh all of that stuff can wait and can be downloaded again. My main priority would be getting my phone working again lol

Tried to unroot but the phone doesn't move past the "Firmware Update. Do not unplug the phone..." screen after holding Volume Up & plugging into the computer. I installed the drivers before hand. But the "CDC Serial" doesn't update. I attempted to manually update the driver by browsing for the folder, but no go.
I may end up having to go to Sprint and exchange the phone for another one.

TL;DR version = Yes, I did fix it. Factory restore did the trick.
A few days after my last post the phone wasn't as bad as the video. It would still crash and reset but mainly after heavy app usage or when trying to clear app cache using any app like Clean Master.
Once my storage reached about 40% used and I couldn't clear the cache, I began to get constant Play Store error messages. No apps would update. I think it was error 483 or something close to hat number.
Since I couldn't flash back to stock because the drivers wouldn't install, I gave up and tried a factory reset. I nearly sh-t myself bc once I confirmed the restore, the phone didn't want to automatically reset per the instructions. I pressed the button multiple times and nothing. I pulled the battery and when I turned it back on, I got the initial screen with the "powered by android" and then black. It did not wanna do anything. Pulled battery again, same outcome. It left it for maybe 10min and still nothing.
I was ready to go back to sprint and see if I could exchange the phone. While researching the closest store, the phone beeped and the initial android setup screen appeared. This was about 25min of waiting on a black screen.
The phone is now back to working order and it's still rooted. There must have been a corrupt file that was erased/restored once the g3 decided to behave.

Congrats!
My G3 is crashing in the similar manner as the video you uploaded.
Except that it only happens when I'm in office connected to office wifi with almost no cellular reception.
On top of that, as far as I could tell... only two apps are causing the launcher to crash... the game Clash of Clans and LINE.
Very very strange....
