+1 For Galaxy Ace
Sent from my GT-I5800 using xda premium

hmmm about 250$ tops

HTC Explorer is quite a nice phone, well below your budget I think and it has 3.5" screen. Not sure the resolution of the camera.
The HTC Desire C, mentioned above, also looks pretty good, you could wait for it if you don't mind waiting. That way you get ICS (Android 4.0) and Sense 4.0 instead of Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.5.
EDIT: Scratch that, HTC Explorer is 3.2" screen. HTC Desire C looks good though, if you don't mind waiting.

Galaxy W, or Sony Xperia Neo are both good single core devices with not bad cameras.

Worth getting S2?

I would would like to know of it is worth getting a Galaxy S2? Would it be durable? Is rooting as simple as flashing a kernal? I'm considering if I should upgrade to this from a desire z.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
i would wait for the Galaxy SIII to come if it was me, but if you get the SII, you won't be dissapointed.
Rooting IS EXACTLY like flashing a kernel (CF-Root, uses Odin). It's really easy.
And SII is a great smartphone, gets a LOT of development and it's really popular, so it will be supported for a long time imo.
Yes if you don't want to wait for the SGS3. Rooting SGS devices so far have been the easiest. Flash CF Root, job done.
Unlocked bootloaders are a plus on the SGS line unlike some other phones...
It's still a powerful phone and will last you for a while yet.
Yes!!u wont regret it
It's a very good phone although Samsung customer service leaves a lot to be desired . I had a problem with the phone not charging and took it to Sammy
They said it was moisture damage and they could not fix it. Thought they were talking rubbish so opened it up myself and found that one of the plugs was a bit loose. Fixed it and been working fine since. One thing I do have to add is that if you will be spending so much money on this then you should root it to make full use of it

The Beast would have the following features
DISPLAY: Type Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size: 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.6 inches (~319 ppi pixel density)
Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass
- TouchWiz UI v4.0
MEMORY: Card slot microSD, up to 32 GB
Internal: 16GB storage, 1 GB RAM
CPU: Quad-core 1.4 GHz
Honestly its more like a galaxy nexus but with slightly better specs.

don't hestiate
don't hestiate, buy and enjoy SII. i'm really happy with my Sii until now. Using from May 2011 and never see others devices better than Sii until now. Sorry for my poor English.
Far easier than the Desire Z anyway. No commands at all. All I did was flash a rooted ROM through ODIN then flashed CWM and flashed the ROM I wanted. But I wouldn't suggest getting one now, the S3 is around the corner. Most likely to be comparable to the HTC One X, if not drastically better.
I honestly don't like the HTC One X. It doesn't fit for my uses. It doesn't have external battery and memory card. As I also don't like sense. As I have helped friends to root Samsung phones, they seem quite easy. My main concern is that the phone wont last me long as I seem to have a habit to drop my phone. What preventive measures can I take to not crack the screen?

SgSIII vs Xperia S Help?

am thinking on getting the Xperia S or the galaxy SIII
but i find both phones ok, but help me which one i should pick!
the SIII has better camara?
on some reviews they said the SIII has better camara.
help or give your opinions
bigger screen on SIII
sony suck..
they already mention they only support 18 months for the update
Sgs III
Go for the sgs III. The cameras are almost the same, the cpu on the sgs III is faster, more storage, many features, bigger vut not better screen.

Is you are a Sony lover then either buy Sony S or wait for next Sony handset to come out... Sony's camera is very good.. See the reviews, one of the best out there, probably better than s Samsung, Otherwise go with Samsung SIII

SGSIII is Optimus Prime and Xperia S is Bumblebee, so its ur choice, something fastest on the market or something with soul but fast enough!

Go for the SGS3. If you need some reasoning, read the article about this phone in the September issue of Maximum PC. They LOVE it, almost as much as I do.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
I don't think anyone with the right mind would buy any Sony phones right now, they are under-specs handsets with heavy price tags. The only reason someone would buy the Xperia S is because of camera. But the GSIII's camera is also not bad (though I haven't seen any comparison between the 2 phones, probably because the Xperia S is not so popular).
Quick check list:
Battery life: GSIII (much longer battery life and replaceable battery)
Screen: GSIII (the SAMOLED HD is better)
Hardware: GSIII (quad core Exynos is too fast for Snapdragon S3 in Xperia S to handle). Oh, have I already mentioned how outdated the Xperia S is in terms of hardware? Snapdragon S3 is a two years old SOC!!!
Software update: guess which phone will have Jelly Bean first?
And personally, the major disappointment I have with the Xperia S is how Sony screwed up the media playback capability of Snapdragon S3. The same videos that play smoothly on my Sensation (same SoC, snapdragon s3) became pixelated on the Xperia S regardless of players I tried. It's not a common bug but it is a dealbreaker for me.

I love my sgs3 but still find it just a bit too large. What's a phone with as many features, solid hardware but smaller size?

If you don't need NFC I'd say the S2 is the next best for a smaller phone.
But if you have tiny hands just stick your fingers in fertilizer manure and hope your fingers grow.

Xperia V. Not out yet though I believe but soon. It will be missing some features but Sony usually has some of their own to make up for it sort of.
The LG Optimus G as well. The screen is almost as big but it's small for such a beast. Probably the same size as a 4.3 inch phone. Probably because it uses on screen buttons.
Another vote for Galaxy S2. Tons of good ROMs and developer support. 4.3" screen makes it easier for one-handed use.
GSG2 resolution isn't nearly as nice though. Ppi way down on the s3 if I remember correctly

Honestly, go for the LG Optimus G. Quadcore Qualcomm S4, 2gb, LTE, higher than HD screen, 13 mp camera all of that into those dimensions somehow.
4.7 mm shorter, 1.7mm less width, and 0.1mm thinner. Not sure if that is small enough for you but that is a noticeable size difference except in thickness, where the GS3 is already thin enough.
Oh, no. Don't go for the S2! After using the HD display on the S3, you won't be able to use the S2. Trust me.
I would have suggested the Galaxy Nexus but I recently discovered that it's only 1mm shorter than the S3. It's not quite as wide, though.

Xperia T is pretty cool and its performance is just as good as the S3.Only downside you will find is the screen, even tho it's HD but it got bad viewing angles and is kinda reflective...Not to mention that AMOLED got more vivid colors and better blacks. But the xperia T got Bravia engine so pics and videos will look better on the xperia(but it's just an image processing chip so it only works in videos and images).Other pretty good option is the galaxy nexus,it's more compact than the S3 while performing as good since it's a nexus phone but you won't get an sd slot and the camera isn't quite impressive.

I have the pocket as a backup phone and it's frustratingly slow. A lot of features, but hardly any development on custom roms and comes with android 2.3.6.
Don't think of it as a small replacement for the S3.

Samsung NEEDS to make an S3 mini for those who want a smaller device with uncompromised specs. Look at the iphone 5, it fits so much tech in so little size. I have said it before that samsung is really missing out on lots of customers due to size of S3, S2 is not an option for those looking for a flagship phone. Galaxy nexus isnt either and it's not that much smaller to begin with.

Is your eyesight really that sharp that you'd be able to notice the difference in everyday situations?
The S3 Mini.

Is the desire x recommended?

Hi guys,
So I'm looking into buying an new smartphone and now I have to chose between the s3 mini and the desire x!
Coming from an HTC desire c running on 4.0.3 I have quiete some experience with sense and unlocking HTC devices
Now just asking: are you guys happy with your desire x? In Belgium it's just 199 euros
Sent from my TF300T using xda app-developers app
I was also in dillema between Desire X and S3 mini. I am now glad that i have chosen the HTC because for the same specs u pay more for s3. I think it is just for the name and more mainstream phone that u give more money, and the desire x has better design and quallity of materialls. The only negative side is the video resolution. So i vote for DX Friend got the s3 mini and i was not impressed with what u get for that amount of money, so overall the ratio of price and what u get is beter for desire x.
That is my opinion.

Yeah the desire x is my choice I'm gonna see if I can get one tomorrow

Ok so here is my opinion on both phones.
HTC Desire X
Pros:
Great build quality
Great design
Sense
Beats audio
Super LCD 2 screen
Cons:
Not really a great support (HTC) the devs are giving their best
Samsung S3 mini :
Pros:
Front camera
1GB ram
720p video recording and output
16 GB internal storage
NFC support
Android 4.2 update
Cons:
TouchWiz
Not really a great build quality
It's Samsung
I don't like the Amoled screens
I'm used to the bad support from HTC on our HTC desire c we spent months on getting Wi-Fi to work on 4.1.2 ROMs because the file wasn't in the source once I asked HTC a question they said that they didn't support that lol
Sent from my TF300T using xda app-developers app
go for s3 mini.
why?
amoled screen.
front facing camera.
720p recording.
built in jellybean.
1gb ram.
faster than desire x. (tested both myself)
almost same price as DX.
better battery life than DX. (again, tested by myself)

Cake...
Development is pretty stagnant for DX. I'm with all the above - S3 mini is a better choice.

[Q]What phone to buy?

Yesterday, my Galaxy SL fell on the ground and half of the touch screen stopped working, so I am thinking of replacing that phone.
The new one must be around the same size (123.7 x 64.2 x 10.59 mm) and I'd like it to have some support from the modding community.
I've been thinking of HTC One, it really looks good.
Thought of Nexus 4, but I'd prefer a phone with external microSD support. I'd also like to have the chance to replace the battery (I know the One doesn't allow that).
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Galaxy S3 mini or the S4 mini would be good. Both phones are great budget devices that fits your description (though S4 mini is slightly smaller and has IR Blaster, as well as a more sensitive and accurate GPS)
Galaxy S2 would be another consideration if you are tight on budget (though the sound quality is not the greatest "YAMAHA DAC" lol)
