sorry to start a new thread but.... - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've looked and the answers I found for my previous sgs2 are gone?
wether I use the stock browser (about:useragent,, which resets every home button press), skyfire set to desktop( which doesn't work for YouTube), nothing works when I press a video from the Facebook app, the video I want to watch is not optimized blah blah.
How do I set the browser to DESKTOP every single time?
Again, sorry to start a thread but I have looked and can't find it

Using Multiple Broswers without setting up the default

Hi guys, I had a quick question regarding using multiple browsers in your android os. Everytime I use another browser, it keeps asking me to pick a browser when I click on a link.
For example, If I am using skyfire and i click a link, it will ask me again if I want to use skyfire or stock browser for the link.... im like.. im in skyfire I'd like skyfire to complete the link.
I know I can solve this issue by setting the default program for internet but if I do set the default to skyfire, it won't let me use the android browser as a link pressed in android default broswer will open up skyfire for any link I press in the stock browser....
Any help would be appreciated thanks!
Solution: Either keep pressing the select browser to open link every time or use the default browser and switch to using only 1 browser.
Opera is a really good choice btw and better than both stock and skyfire.
There really aren't too many other "solutions" for this. Find a browser you really like and use it for your default.

Hey thanks for the help. I guess I'll just have to stick to manually clicking my choices each time because I do want both. Sometimes, other browsers just have problems and I need to use the stock android browser.
I also tried all of them, dolphin(s), opera, miui, etc... I came out liking skyfire best other than the stupid social network bar at top.
one quick thought, it only makes sense that this needs to change. it's kinda like using chrome on my desktop and it asking me what browser to use everytime I click a link. Is this a fix on the os side or the app side??
I use 2 browser which is the stock and opera, I don't have this problem.
try this, if you're on the stock browser select the stock browser as default, then when you're on Skyfire when it ask you again choose Skyfire. I think that's what I did.

There is also a free app in the market that lets you input a URL and choose which browser to use for that specific URL.

It's OS-side and I don't see it being changed simply because most people use a single browser and never have this issue.
Here is yet another "possible" fix though: Set your default Android browser as default. Get an icon to skyfire on your homescreen. Every time you click a link from within another app (XDA, Email, Messaging, etc), it will open it with the default browser. Every time you wish to use Skyfire, start it up from its icon.
You should never be asked which browser you wish to use again.

youtube

I tried out my SGS2 today with youtube and I always had an iphone and I was able to stop my youtube video's pause and answer calls look at emails and go back to where I left off, But I couldn't do that with this SGS2 What's up with that !
I'm not rooted if that matters
I also found another problem that I'm not sure if the iphone did this or not also and that was while listening to pandora I wanted to take some pictures and when I started up the camera pandora was cutoff, what's up with that ! I thought maybe because I had the GPS active on the camera but that wasn't it
hope some could shed some light on these two problems I have found so far and I'm sure by the weekend I might have more to add to my list -Hope Not Thought
I tried putting a mobile version on the home screen and still youtube won't pause my video , I have a feeling Google dropped the ball here ! Not sure but if no one answers this means Google + Android + Youtube dropped the ball and apple somehow gets this working, How could that be Am I right LOL No tell me no ! can't be.

I am currently listening to Pandora and decided to see if I have the same issue. I am able to click pictures while the pandora is still streaming songs. I could change camera, take pics etc. I am currently in CM7 instead of the stock OS and I don't know if that is a reason! But I am guessing it is not.
Update:
You are right about Youtube. I paused it, clicked home button and came back to Youtube app to find the video I paused starts playing from first instead of where I left it.
Well I tried it again with the camera and Pandora and it still cuts off
I did find that the volume rocker Zooms the camera
Maybe someone else can try and report back

Is this youtube like this on all android devices or is it just this SGS2 ?
This only seems to happen when you load the mobile site of you tube. If I set your useragent to desktop then you can switch back and forth to your hearts content and start where you left off.

I just went into setting on my mobile youtube and set to desktop - didn't work
I went to the app of youtube and found no settings for this.
I went my home computer and can't find anything in setting to make this work.
please post how to do and i'll give it another try APPRECIATE IT
You can pause youtube. Tap the screen and press the Home button not the back button , the back button exits the app or any app. When you ready to go back. Press the YouTube icon not the widget, the widget opens to the main screen.

Might be some sort of restriction that the camera app imposes. Clicking on phone and any voice search also turns off pandora. I don't have any problem with youtube.

Open stock web browser and type in about:useragent and switch to desktop. Then load your YouTube video. When the phone prompts you to use youtube app select web browser (I also click default because I don't like the YouTube app) now watch your video as you would on a desktop machine. You can zoom or pause or switch to full screen or go check a email. The video will be waiting where you left off.

Are you connected to a different WiFi network then what you normally are? Are you tethered to a phone, or using 3G?
It works now, and i havent touched or moved the device since posting the forst post.. why did it happen in the first place? I was on house wifi

Sounds to me like it was having trouble contacting the google servers. I'm not really sure what would have caused it though!!
Strange. I've had a Flyer now for about 6 months and never seen this.
I think i got it,
I.have opera mobile beside the normal browser, and haven made any by default, so every time i search sth it dims the screen and asks me which to choose, but yesterday the choose option didnt pop out.. strange though

its seen on other devices as well.
next time, rotate screen and you will see that it will go back to main menu and show the selection window where you can choose the browser to use.
as it happens on all devices its a google bug, which seem to follow from 2.2 and up.

YouTube as default app?

OK...Love this phone, but there is one thing bothering me that I can't find the answer to. I've looked in the One X/S forums, and tried searching to see if there are any apps that would help. So far, no luck.
I know, due to the Apple patent BS, that they had to remove the functionality of popping up the menu when you click on a link to ask what app you wanted to open it in. For the life of me, I cannot find any way of setting the YouTube app to be the default app to open up Youtube URLs. I've cleared the settings in the browser, but every time I open up a Youtube link, it sends it to the browser.
Probably even harder, but I would also like to make Google Maps URLs open in the Maps app when clicked from the browser. I looked for those defaults, and the Maps app is set for those URLs, but in the browser, it still opens in the browser.
This is the one thing that is seriously bothering me about this phone.
Might be a glitch, try a different browser like chrome beta

It isn't necessarily happening just in the browser. The Maps issue is, but if I open a map link in G+ it opens it in Maps. But if I am in Reddit News or G+ and hit a Youtube link, it always opens in the browser.
I would like to know this as well. Viewing YouTube videos through the browser is very bad and doesn't do full screen correctly.
Mainly for reddit news app.

Did you look under settings, app associations? I think that's how google made it work.
"We're coming from a pure power source."
Yeah, there isn't a way to add a new one, and there are some for Maps but none for YouTube. I think that is why Maps links in G+ work right, but YouTube always opens in browser.

This thread should answer your questions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657319
It's because of the stupid Apple patent that held our phones up in customs HTC put in their own custom app Associations link which kills internet links.
I'm thinking of rooting just to get rid of this.

There is an HTC link app, you can try opening it up and configuring it, if that doesn't work try renaming it.
My EVO is still lost in the wirefly black hole so I can't confirm if this works

Thanks for the replies. I saw that link app as a default in an app called Default App Manager, but couldn't do anything with it. Suspected that was the culprit.
The HTC workaround doesn't seem so bad, but they should have given us more control to manually set things. Wonder if they have an API for it. I wouldn't be opposed to writing a more full featured app. Will have to do some more research.
I don't blame HTC, I blame Apples's patent trolling.

i just came to post about this, it seriously is a problem. youtube links in texts, emails, anywhere go to the browser. its terribly annoying!!!
shouldn't the Youtube app itself have a setting to make it default for youtube links? that app has like nothing in the actual settings. grrrrrrrrr
This whole 'new' way to choose what link opens which app sounds like a huge pain. I f*ckin hate apple. Buncha tech nazi's. How did they even get awarded that patent anyway? How much money did they throw at the patent office?

It's not the app that decides it's the os. The problem is Apple made them take out the app chooser

How to disable Facebook's default video player?

Hello dear posters,
I think my question is clear. You know Facebook gets updated almost every week. I don't remember but, for older versions of Facebook after hitting a video thumbnail, I was able to choose any player that installed my device ( MX Player, BSplayer etc.)
But after nowadays updates it's changed. When I hit a video it starts directly in Facebook app without asking which way I'd like to play..
I don't want to turn back to previous versions of Facebook and don't want to install 3th party apps.
Is there any ideas how to disable Facebook's default video player?
Can we change some permissions via Root Explorer?
Thanks in advance,

Thank you for your help dude but this is not the solution. You mentioned clear defaults. I know that ?
But The problem is, in Facebook app it doesn't ask you which player you'd like to play. After hitting a video it starts directly.
Therefore; you don't choose anything by mistake so as to clear defaults.

should be a similar thing in the app?
“Auto-play videos on Wi-Fi only”
will still do it on wifi but that's the best you can do for now until FB changes/fixes it.
maybe do FB through a browser instead of the app?
I think that there is a built in player in the app, so the solution should be browsing through a internet browser, which has been said.
No it's not working native browser, either..

Try using not the desktop version of Facebook, but the mobile version.
I've tested, also tested user agent switchers but failed.. I think the only solution to change Facebook files and change permissions via Root Explorer and text editor
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
Downgrade to older versions of Facebook app? The ones that allowed you to choose your vid player. You'll have to Google search it.
Thank you dear friends. These are solutions of think differently but i've been searching for a technical solution. Yes i know there are so many older facebook apks to solve that but that's not a real solution for me.. I want to use latest
