I'm trying to unlock the bootloader via HTC's method and when I go to use token it can never open it. It's coming up as a vlc media file when i go to view the file. Does it need a different file extension or should I just uninstall vlc player for now. Thanks for any help.

If uninstalling is a hassle, I believe in the VLC settings you can change what file types open with VLC. Just unselect the token file type (can't remember what it is).

No. But in cmd it says cannot open it and does not recognize it so I'm wondering if it has to do with file type. I'm just guessing though.

Open up vlc media player. Look for options or settings. Then uncheck all flies types that are associated with vlc by default. Then reboot. See if that helps.

I would just restart the whole unlock process and see if that works.

I'll try it but I actually went back in the steps on HTC's site and now they say they r aware of the problem and tell u to download a certain ruu. But what makes me even more nervous is they say once u do that u will probably not receive future ota updates if u do so. It is the fix but if for some reason it doesn't work I don't want to be stuck on an ruu I can't change and not ever be able to unlock or get ota. Thanks for everyones help but I'm gonna sit this one out and just wait for official ota.

Is the phone S-OFF?
How much access do you have to that phone if it is?
Nope S-ON. But I have unrestricted access for the next 30days
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I may be wrong here (I assure you someone will chime in if I am ), but at this point we may need to keep a look out for any S-OFF Phones as these have the best chance of having a SD Card we can take an image from. If I'm correct in my thinking, this alone wont help us as the individual card should be tied to that phone. Unrestricted access to such a phone would allow it to be studied at the very least.
Anyone know of any CID spoofers for mSD cards?
Well we have more than one. I'll check them all out and get back

Right. Only the OTA won't download on mine. I have a 30mbit connection for my wifi and Angry Birds downloads in seconds, but took the OTA 7 hours to get 3.5mb.
All of ours have S-ON RL...
Any idea what rl is?
Also if you can't download it OTA, I would assume renaming it to update.zip would work.

For some reason the Wi-fi on mine is screwy. 50mb connection from comcast and the router is right next tomine, same as my non 3d evo was on and I couldn't download a few games that needed to install data, would sit there and after about 3 minutes would say no internet connection....
It seems to work for apps and such in the market so I don't know. Just trying to provide as much info as I can. Just got it today too. Kind of buggy.
At one point would wake to lock screen and as soon as I pulled ring it went black, several times, not sure what made it work again.
Also, hit top button showed lock screen as only top half of screen. Had to reboot for this to clear....
I also know someone at the sprint store in my location and could ask him to look for a phone of that nature if we need it. Let me know.
i think the build number is old 1.11.651.3 i have 1.13.651.7

Then one might be able to find a chink in HTC's armor. For example, running fastboot/adb commands etc and comparing the output to normal phones. The missing functions between s-off and s-on would be significant.

I read in a few places that I need to use Goldcard to use OTA....any ideas if this is true or if I need to do something else??
BTW, I now have Hboot 1.40.00...instead of 1.30.00 so it won't even let me downgrade to factory shipping ROM.

Just curious after all these weeks and keeping up with the old threads. I'm assuming it's no longer a secret
Many apologies if it's detailed somewhere as I have yet to discover it.
It's not been released yet as to what it does exactly. And hopefully it stays that way... so HTC can't figure it out and stop it in a future update
I'm willing to bet HTC downloaded it like the rest of us, parsed through the file and figured it out fairly quickly. Unfortunately, I downloaded it like the rest of you, parsed through the file and have no idea what any of it is

Nor will you know what it's doing because they didn't release the source and it is nearly impossible to decompile it and figure it out the way they did it. I'm glad they did it this way even though I would like to know, it's just better this way.
It's a binary file. Which means it is extremely difficult to decompile and see the code to know what it's doing. Some strings may show in it, but it's near impossible to know what the rest says without out knowing what kind of data type every bit of data is.

It's only there so that if something goes wrong (bricked phones, etc.) the Revolutionary team can pull the tool and not just have others uploading it and having more phones bricked. They r not interested in getting your serial number because it's unless without the IMEI anyway (as far as I know). Basically if u can't get a beta key you can't run the tool.

Just do some reading. I did HTCDev unlock earlier this week. I have had my 3D since launch should have rooted it before I took updates but to be honest it really isn't that big of deal as people make it out to be once it's working.
You just gotta boot recovery using your computer instead of using the phone. Even when I had my evo I was always using my computer with a usb to copy rom files over anyway so taking an extra few seconds to boot recovery isn't a huge deal. I guess if your flashing like crazy and have roms on your sd card it could get annoying but I don't go that flash crazy. I like to setup my phone and keep it that way for a while.

Because revolutionary didn't work I updated back to hboot 1.5 cause I already had root with that. With the New ics roms coming out and having to update the firmware, I decided to do the downgrade again, but revolutionary refuses to work. Invalid beta key is the message I get. And to get to the point, I want to know if anybody has any solutions for this. I've heard of a few people that said one week it didn't work and next week it did, or other stuff. Does revolutionary actually use your actual serial # to check against the beta key? Meaning, if you had another one that worked (like mine) and used it, would it still refuse because it doesn't match your device?
This sounds elementary, but are you typing in the Serial yourself or are you cutting and pasting the serial # from the revolutionary prompt? When I ran revolutionary, it prompted me for the beta key and had my serial # in brackets, like [HTC2018482] or whatever. I copied everything into the brackets, pasted it into the site, and got my key that way. It might be a good way to make sure you're getting the same values that revolutionary is seeing.
When I used it, I had to copy and paste the key, manually retyping it didn't work. Hopefully this helps

I'm thinking about intentionally bricking it and taking it to Sprint and I'll either get another one or something else. Not sure what to do yet. I guess I'll wait till official ics and see if there is anything new to help with the hboot and if not I'm getting rid of this. What I think could be :
When you have generated the Revulutionary key you were in HBoot version 0007/8
Now your HBoot version is 1107/8.
I do not know if there is a kind of check intergrated between the generated key and the tool which could cause your trouble ?
I had this problem when I was first using it. What I did was to copy the key and then paste it into wordpad and then I typed it manually when asked and that worked for me.
