Evo 4G LTE indefinitely delayed at US Customs - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

What # shipment was this into the US by HTC? This can't possibly be their first shipment into the US if their release date was the 18th for the Evo LTE.
If so, I don't know how they would have gotten off into the scheduled launch date anyways.

I was just about to post this. I have yet to go and reserve the new Evo, but was going to do so on Thursday. WTF Apple. Dirty move.

They must already have some in the country. And I bet they're at the sprint stores.

The US availability of the HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE has been delayed due to a standard U.S. Customs review of shipments that is required after an ITC exclusion order. We believe we are in compliance with the ruling and HTC is working closely with Customs to secure approval. The HTC One X and HTC Evo 4G LTE have been received enthusiastically by customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to get these products into their hands as soon as possible.

I was just thinking the same thing. There's no way they set up a launch date without securing some stock first?

In store early upgrade promotion 3/18-5/20???

I chatted with a rep about getting an early upgrade and heres what he said:
Francis S.: Yes, I have check that the early upgrade promotion is running from 3/18/12 - 5/20/12 on stores.
Francis S.: For that you need to visit your nearest Sprint store as this offer is only offered on Sprint stores.
Anyone have any clue about this?
How far in do u have to be to get the early promotion

Even if its true it sucks that its in store only. I buy my phones from bestbuy to get the discount upfront

Even though Sprint ended early upgrades for premiere customers, you still get one last one. Just an FYI. A lot of people probably got the Evo 3D on launch day, so come June people in the premier program should be good to go.
Not sure what program the Sprint representative was talking about here, but is there really any phones dropping before 5-20 that you would want to upgrade to?

Sprint also has early upgrade Buyout options for some customers, not sure what the formula is for who qualifies but several people have an option to upgrade early (with a fee of course).
Good. I can't wait to drop the evo 3d. The 3D gimmick hindered so much development

If you are a premiere customer you get an upgrade every year, or at least used to. Sprint ended early upgrades. However, every premier customer gets one last one before the end of the year.
I used my early upgrade on the 3D and am eligible for an upgrade June 6th.

Did you get it on launch day? Or after they ended the rewards program?
I got mine on launch day. Was an early upgrade from the original evo, which I believe was an early upgrade from the pre.
Anyways, according to Sprints website, I'm good to go for an upgrade June 6th. The upgrade must be used before the end of the calender year.
Idk, check your upgrade status on sprints site. Maybe I'm just awesome.

I'm the same way, except I didn't qualify for my upgrade until July 3rd. I believe I have until the middle of December this year to use my final annual upgrade. Still trying to decide what that next device will be & after I got ICS on this bad boy I'm not too sure I'm in much of a hurry - I may have to wait to see what's on the horizon behind the EVO LTE & the GSIII.

It's almost here

Thanks again for pre-ordering the new HTC EVO™ 4G LTE from Sprint.
This revolutionary smartphone is available to the public on Friday, May 18. So we'll do our absolute best to make sure you get yours first. Soon, you'll have unlimited access to all the things you love, only from Sprint.
We're processing your order now so look for your shipping confirmation email informing you of the specific carrier used for delivery, as well as the tracking number on the day that your phone ships.
I hope they plan to ship it sometime today. Your thoughts?
Hrm, I just got this email as well... Hopefully it comes before Thursday as I wouldn't be able to play with it until Friday.

Sprint cancelling ICS for 3D?

I heard another strong rumor from another strong source that Sprint is giving consideration to cancelling ICS for 3D and offer an early end to contract as good-gesture solution. I think we can see where this is going, right? Early end of contract = full discount price on the next phone.
I don't want one of those LTE phones until the stupid service is available here in Oregon. Right now, I have tons of WiMax and if switch to LTE, I lose 4G!
Why are we putting up with this crap?!
source?
but i think its crap, desire hd etc got 4.0 too...so fare...
This can't be !!
Why would they do that when the Virgin Mobile version has ICS? It wouldn't bother me though since we have 3.6 and 4.0 (minus 4g) available here now but it sucks because my contract is up in July so I would not reap any of said benefits.
Would like to see a credible source on this rumor.

Rumors. People are too gullible these days.
To pick the other side of this, most people on this forum probably have or will get ics one way or another. So if sprint would give us an early out i would welcome that. You know, when you think about it, sprint has all but kicked us 3d owners out the door anyhow. Try and get a refurb replacement. It's pretty tough right now. I can see how it would save them a bunch of hassles by not doing the update. I love my 3d even more after putting myn's ics on it. If i had an early upgrade i would probably follow him to ss3 land.
I was going to wait for the official update to be released, but it just got tiresome. I like running stock-rooted ROMs, and who knows when Sprint will get their head out of their ass to get this done. I bought my EVO 4G LTE, and it's made me happy now.
I would actually love that, sorry guys.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it ends up that we (Sprint 3d users) never see an official ICS but I can guarantee that there will be no "mass" early contract out to make up for that.... Doing so would open the door to a mass exodus from Sprint with no etf. This WILL NOT HAPPEN!

HTC has announced the 3d will get ICS but that means the 3d in general, the Sprint variant of the 3d has never been officially confirmed by anyone, neither HTC or Sprint. The update has to be officially requested to HTC by a carrier on a branded devices. It is entirely possible that Sprint may not do so. The only sure thing is that unbranded GSM 3ds will get ICS. Just sayin.....
I have already all but decided that this will be my last HTC device, if it does not receive the official update, it will also be my last Sprint device.

How Do Updates Work?

I've complained to Sprint on the delay of ICS for the EVO 3D. They have told me that they don't have the software and are unable to send it. Also they have told me that they have no control when HTC will send the upgrade to them.
Now, this makes no sense to me. I would think that Sprint has something to do with this and it's not just a HTC issue. In fact, HTC told me that it's a joint effort between them and Sprint, which makes sense to me.
This BS with the update is really making me consider getting a Galaxy Nexus for my next phone. But, I have concerns about Sprint just refusing to let the update happen, which is what I think is going on with the EVO 3D ICS update.
So, to my question, how do system updates work?
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D using Tapatalk 2
I truly don't believe its a sprint issue at this point. HTC has been less than forthcoming about updates for the 3d (or any HTC phone, for that matter).
I'm sure sprint has to QC check and approve/push the update (and probably has final say as to whether or not the update gets pushed at all) but I'm fairly certain the ball is in HTCs court right now.
Then again, this is 100% opinion and speculation on my end - I'm probably completely off base.

Oh yeah, that. That's been known for a while.
Regardless, that still gives HTC 25 more days before they have to provide sprint with software to test (assuming that is, in fact, the way it works - I still don't know) just to be compliant with their own schedule. On top of that, sprint will have to test and approve the update before pushing it out.
IMO, I think we'd see leaked RUUs for sprint if they actually had a functional ROM in testing right now. But at the same time, we've got the leaked ROM from virgin mobile, so who knows?
Either way, I'm glad I jumped ship and left sprint
Sent from my HTC One X
Ok, so I just revisited the 3d forums for the first time since jumping ship.
I revise my opinion. Based on the fact that pretty much every other carrier seems to be receiving OTA updates (based on the massive number of threads in the general forum), I'm gong to go ahead and assume that sprint has, in fact, dropped the ball on this one.
Sent from my HTC One X
I would assume that once HTC finally developes the updates, Sprint test it and adds/deletes anything they want to before it is released to the end user.
Ok, yes, we agree that Sprint sucks on getting the upgrade out.
However, my question still stands. How Do Updates Work? I'm presuming that Google sends the upgrade to HTC, they make it work on their OS. Then they send it to Sprint, which makes their changes to work on their network and then they deliver the update.
Anyone got a clue?

LTE - Long Island NY / NYC

They've been saying July/August for the roll out for NYC but alas still no LTE.
Also been hearing Long Island should be blanketed with LTE. I really hope it's not like how it was with WIMAX and only have coverage in NYC/Queens and us Long Islanders get screwed.
I only had 4G when I was at work in the city which is garbage.
Anyone have any legit info?
Thanks
NYC should be getting it soon, the delay is probably QC. Long Island, NY is on a different schedule though. Hopefully you work in Manhattan lol or its going to be a sad trip home. Unless you have decent WiFi.

I am relaxed just fed up. Don't get me wrong Sprints customer service is the bomb I've had no issues in that department. But when we were promised 4G with the OG EVO we didn't receive it. We were paying $10 extra per month and it only made its way to NYC and queens. Now they are it and promise us LTE and we purchases out phones in May/June and for some of us we won't see it till Summer/Fall of 2013. I think that's kind of bull crap.

I feel the op's pain here on long island. Never having gotten any Wimax in a market as large as ours and being so close in proximity to nyc always poised me off too. Now with lte having to wait again sucks but what can you do? Wait it out or move on to another carrier. I'll wait it out. I'm happy with sprints service and pricing overall and when I'm home my Fios kicks ass for all my internet needs.
