Fix Bricked or cwm bootlooped 16gb nook tablet - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

* Please note, If you get into the n bootloop then you will have to create a bootablet cwm sd card and flash a backup or albert wertz's r3 recovery rom. Then after it boots into stock you can run the nook unrooter app to do a factory reset.
Just download this zip and flash it in cwm and reboot. Then it will just restore factory stock and fix your tablet.
Here`s the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1092658&d=1338298057
This may most likely work, however if it doesnt and you get into an n logo bootloop, then all you need to do is make a bootable cwm sd card and flash/restore albert wertz's stock recovery rom for your model. Then you could just boot nook os and flash stock recovery through the nt recovery flasher app already installed and run the nook unrooter app. Or a more simpler way would be to flash this stock recovery zip after you have went to backup and restore and restored the albert wertz recovery rom.
I had bricked my nook tablet by using the origional nt recovery flasher app to flash cwm recovery (the old version) and i flashed cm9 alpha 0.2. When I booted cyanoboot had an orange backround and it wouldnt boot into cm9 it said something about a disk majic errot. After I kept on rebooting and booted into cwm recovery. I then flashed my backup and made the mistake of selecting reboot recovery. When I rebooted I kept booting into cwm and I now know its called a cwm reboot recovery bootloop. This zip willl filx that and do a factoryy reset because I tried flashing the latest nt cwm recovery and it upgraded but still cwm bootlooped.
I think this may have fixed my nook tablet 16gb's partions. While I was in the cwm bootloop I had mounted and formatted each option. Including the rom partion. PLEASE! Dont do this because you might have a different situation and this may not help restore your partions. When I flashed this zip and rebooted my nt it booted into the clearing data which took a little while and it the factory resetscreen. To mysuprise after setup and regristration my serial number i still there. This is just an assumption.

What is this though? You should provide a little more information before people go downloading and flashing things...

It's a factory recovery cwm flashable.

Worked for me, it will flash over bootloader to stock, so you can use this if Cyanoboot is giving you trouble.

can you please provide more detailed instructions, i downloaded the file and it does not have any extension, anyways i just put .zip to it and tried to install from sd card using cwm running on internal and it gives me error...

Okay.Sorry for the confusion. After you rename the file with a zip extension. Extract that zip. There should be a folder inside called nt cwm 8&16gb or something of the sort. Then go inside of the folder and select every thing including the folders and recovery img. Zip those files using 7zip. Then flash it. I will update the file today so mostlikely you wont have to do this. Before 12 am today.

Haven't tried it on a 8gb Tablet, but the filename says "8gb-16gb_cwm_internal.zip" so it should probably work.
By the way, some people reported it helped, but some reported it didn't.

I am getting the n logo boot loop. Can you give me links/instructions for next step?

For nd restored and ok. But after flashing again cwm with nt cwm flasher apk loops in n and on boot and no going to cwm recovery. How unbrick this now???

[Q] Unable to factory reset NT

Hi everyone...
I rooted my NT using this walkthrough (blog.the-ebook-reader . com/2012/01/02/nook-tablet-rooting-guide-complete-walkthrough-video/) and I found it to be a bit unstable. My problem now is I want to factory reset it. Any method I try to use results in it displaying an error message ("Please restart your device and try again. If you encounter the same issue, please contact customer service.")
I have tried holding down the power + n button until the n logo screen comes up, Indirect's unroot apk, chainfire 3d apk, and Adam's Ubuntu recovery. I have also tried the 8 failed boots and erasing and deregistering the device.
They all result in a regular start up or the error message.
Thank you for the help!
chainfire 3d apk is what messed your device.... prep an sdcard with CWM to boot into it then wipe data > advanced dalvik cache and flash a new ROM.
There are 1.4.0 stock ROMs as flashable CWM zip and backup format with root, apps and more ready to be installed in CWM easily.
Read here -METHOD#1 and use this instruction for prep your sdcard.
~ Veronica
Thank you for the information...I'm attempting it, but I'm not off to a great start.
The EASEUS program isn't giving me any create partition options for the sd card. The card is blank and isn't showing any partitions or unallocated space. I've reformatted it several times trying to make it work, but it's not. I've tried FAT32 and NTFS file systems.

Hmmm that's odd are you using a card reader or directly from the nook? make sure its not locked the card reader. A screenshot can help to identify the prob.
I always format my sdcards with SDFormatter for windows.
~ Veronica
OK, I used a different sd card and it worked just fine.
Now, I selected the wipe data option and advanced dalvik cache and when I rebooted, nothing had changed. All the data was still there.
Also, not sure about how to flash a new ROM.
Any ideas?
I just noticed that when I run the factory reset wipe, it says it failed...I attached a screen shot...

That is not a failed wipe, the wipe completes and that error is normal we all have it so dont worry.
Now that you made all wipes go to mount&storage and format system ONLY system, if you format any other partition apart of /data, /cache and /system you will brick your device.
Reflash a ROM (With all wipes and format system that will be a "fresh install")
~ Veronica
OK, I was getting really frustrated and decided to take a couple days off to calm down before I threw the NT out the window (haha)
So now that it's been a few days, I decided to try again!
Unfortunately, now it won't even boot CWM off the SD card. GAHH!! haha...
(side note: I went to Nook online support to randomly see if they'd wipe the device in store if I brought it in. The woman goes "we can't do anything for a rooted device...by the way, what's the serial number of your device?" Like I'd fall for THAT one! ;] )

maybe is the battery that i dead as you waited for few days, put it to charge for some hours and check back.
You can plug it to your computer while is off and it should boot up too... works for many users. But still you need to put it to charge first.
~ Veronica
No, that's not it...I leave it on the charger and I've been using it like normal.
It skips over CWM and boots up like normal. Well, actually it starts to boot and then it restarts and boots again. Sometimes a couple times. But either way, it doesn't go to CWM at all.
I have the same issue after using chainfire 3d apk. whenever i restart it takes me to CWM-based recovery mode after 8 restarts. I tried to reinstall CWM , after install when i restart it , it still takes me to the same place. I dont know what to do///. Is there anyone who can help me with this.
I actually don't think chainfire is what messed me up. I was trying to reset using several different methods and that was the very last thing I tried to factory reset it. It wasn't resetting BEFORE I used chainfire.
Also, mine isn't rooted using the cyanogen mod root.
I did wipe data, advanced dalvik cache and formated the system only and then used sd card to install NT16GBV46.IMG. Now it just takes me to the white screen with "N READ FOREVER" and it doesnt do anything after that. It also lets me go to CWM recovery mode. It not doing the 8 times flashy thing before it goes to recovery mode due to chainfire 3d pro apk file. Does any one has any ideas what do i have to do next for NT to work normally.
That's an unrelated issue to the original post. I'd post your own thread so that you get more relevant information.
I think I am going to install Ubuntu on my home computer when I get out of work and maybe try giving Adam's Ubuntu total wipe another go.
Cross your fingers! Haha...
Well, I couldn't get Ubuntu working right on my computer so I just tried using the image writer to put the file on an sd card. Still no luck.
It flashes the "Please do not turn off the power" screen and then immediately jumps to "Please restart the device."
Guess I'm just stuck with a poorly rooted device
Stupid question: what would happen if I try to root CM7 OVER the NookandZergy root? Wouldn't everything be wiped clean because it would reformat everything? Or would I end up bricking the NT?
I'm wondering if this was a solution all along...
So now your NT boots right? CM7 already comes rooted i dont understand what you tried to say in your latest post (its very confusing) Please explain better the status of your device so we can help better. Post what exactly steps you have done so far for your tablet to semi-brick, what exactly does when it boots and if you can somehow boot into CWM now.

My NT has always booted up...However, if I have CWM on the SD card, it skips over it and boots like normal.
I rooted my NT using the NookandZergy method. I'm wondering what would happen if I tried to re-root over it using CM7. It's not bricked at all right now, I'm wondering if rerooting with CM7 would make it brick.

Try to find the Barnes and Noble factory image in the Development subforum.
I can't remember where it is but you write the image to an SD card and just power on the device with the card inside and observe a complete restore.

I somehow screwed up my partitions recently. Couldn't get out of bootloop. Let me look for the method I used. Brb
ok. to begin, here's how i screwed mine up. i was running cm9 with cyanoboot and twrp. i was running through several backups and compressing them. after one, i ended up in a bootloop with cyanoboot that continuously went to recovery. i do not know what all was wrong with the device specificly, but i tried adamoutlers ubuntu, and various other steps. nothing worked. i found my solution using several different threads. ultimately, this is what worked....
i can not claim any responsibility if this screws up your device more than it already is.
read all of this and these links before performing anything. fully charge your device beforehand!
get SDFormatter to have properly a properly formatted sdcard
my NT is a 16gb, and i use a windows 7 pc.
first, create a bootable cwm sdcard. NOTE: i was able to get both steps below onto the root of the sdcard.
second, run this zip to clear the boot count... you may or may not need this. i dont see where it would hurt starting fresh.
http://www.mediafire.com/?lybnkrvgjnqc65b
(original post- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26570960&postcount=18)
third, replace partition 1-4 and 6. i presume this restores the b&n recovery. run this zip...

(original post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26575066&postcount=20)
fourth, restore the stock 1.4.2 rom, unrooted.
i used this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26329581&postcount=1
you may already have a copy of the stock rom, but if you are getting errors, i would download another. CHECKSUM!!!!! i have dicked up more devices than i care to count because of a bad download. i now use MD5_SHA-1 Utility. google it for download.
then i re-rooted using this sdcard method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21275927&postcount=1
again, i can not claim any responsibility if this screws up your device more than it already is. i do hope this helps. it fixed mine.

[Q] Stuck at Flashing CM10

I followed a post on here from malloneem - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037368 - but I ran into an issue. I have CM7 running just fine on NT (thanks by the way ) but I'm trying up "upgrade" to CM10. I can boot into recovery and then into TWRP but it hangs after selecting the acclaim.zip file and gapps file. It states "Flashing file 1 of 2 /sdcard/sgt7-10-20121124-UNOFFICIAL-acclaim.zip" I let it run for 2 hours, but no luck.
Thanks in advance!

The method you're using is rather old. Before you try anything else I will interrupt your possibly long strenuous process of flashing CM10.
Before you attempt anything else, restore your tablet. You might be mad at me for saying this, but it makes things easier using the newer methods for flashing ROMs. You can restore your tablet by writing this repart.img to an SD card and putting it in your nook. It will write stock BN ROM to your tablet. Use this:
http://raywaldo.com/2012/06/how-to-un-brick-a-nook-tablet-8gb-or-16gb/
A lot of people have problems with TWRP. I could never get it to stop freezing up. Assuming you want to internally flash CM10 I'll give you this link to follow:
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/03/cm10-0-jelly-bean-for-nook-tablet-uploading/
If you are new to flashing ROMs there is a very simple way of using CM10 from an SD card. Just write it to your SD card and you're good! You can use a partitioning tool such as MiniTool to expand the different partitions of your SD card. Use this method if you want run from an SD card.
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/
If you run into any problems along the way, just ask!
I appreciate the reply. I was able to flash back to factory, but I'm a bit perplexed on the second link. I do want to run CM10 internally. I was able to grab the file, but the link isn't exactly noob friendly on a "how to". Could you point me in the right direction to get started on this?
Thanks

Try this out.
Mega simple super duper easy way where you don't have to set up any partitions at all:
1. Download one of the ready-made CM10 sd-card images on Iamafanof website. Doesn't matter which! These images contain Cyanoboot.
2. Burn this image
3. Put your CM10 and gApps on this or another sd card.
4. Boot into Cyanoboot by holdninh "n" during bootup. Choose "sd recovery"
5. Clear cache and dalvik
6. Choose your zips and flash them
Once CM10 is installed you'll have Cyanboboot and CWM installed internally so if you need to reflass you just boot into Cyanoboot by holding the "n" at bootup.

Go to recovery and do a factory rest/total wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache. Then install the ROM again. If it still doesn't work try a different ROM.

It indeed takes 2-3 minutes but then it just flashes the Android home screen and goes back to the cyanogenmod boot splash screen.
I am guessing I should install another build perhaps?

By "cyanogenmod boot splash" do you means "Cyanoboot splash" or "Cyanogenmod boot-animation"?
You need to say more on what you did to "flash the ROM" so that we can discern what you might have done wrong.

Thanks dude, that did the trick. I guess the problem I had was with a corrupt image that I have downloaded.

Samsung Galaxy Note II stuck at bootscreen [OS flashing?]

Well. It's my worst fear. Launched the DPI changer app, attempted to change my DPI (to a valid amount) and nothing happened, no big deal. My wireless connections stopped working and my shop stopped working. I downloaded a different DPI changer, everything was working except Google Play. I attempted everything then decided to tell it to "change" my DPI to default. Went to reboot then bam.
I get the following:
The standard splash with the Verizon 4GLite then it goes on to loop at the Samsung splash for a bit then loops from the beginning (4GLite).
I've tried getting into "recovery" mode but it won't go, I do not know why. (Vol up + home + power). Need help please, thanks.
(Noob alert, if you mention anything that I might need, if you could please supply a DL link to minimize any more mess ups I might make)
EDIT: I got into recovery mode I forgot you were able to remove the battery (I was panicking, I apologize) I am also rooted with 4.2
EDIT2: I've attempted a factory reset, nothing new happened.
EDIT3: I need to reflash an OS. I'm really freaking out. It says I don't have a bootloader (OS).
Bottom line: This problem kinda... multiplied itself most likely based on my own stupidity. I'm keeping it at the "Team Win Recovery Project v2.5.0.0" recovery menu because I don't even want to boot into anything. Awaiting instructions.

I saw you posted this in the att forums but I think I can help. Just download any ROM and flash it. Twrp has a failsafe now that will basically prevent you from bricking your phone if no os is detected. Do you have an external memory card? If you do transfer a ROM to your card, put it in your device, and flash it. Your not bricked.....your just soft bricked. Or you can always go back to stock. I'm sure your device thread has instructions on how to Odin back to stock. Hope this helps

So if I wanted to flash stock, I just need to put the stock rom on my ESD put it into my phone and flash it from the recovery menu? Is there more to it than that? Or do I need to do that all externally with "Odin"? Where would I obtain the stock rom? And thank you for your response.

I'm talking a touchwiz ROM one of your developers has made. You can find it in your forums. It sounds like you don't have much experience with this stuff. Did you make a nandroid backup at all?

Sadly, no. I didn't. You are correct, I am very new to this sort of thing, I've rooted other devices before (simple one click only, I'm good with computers, but not smart phones) but nothing has blown up this bad before. I've placed this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261478) on my ESD however, when I put my ESD back in, it reads it as blank. I'm assuming I need to relaunch recover mode to refresh its directories. However I'm very scared to do that because I have no OS anymore.

Just navigate in your recovery back to your internal SD then back to your external. If that does not work then go to the reboot menu in TWRP and and hit recovery. It will restart your recovery only and should refresh what is sees on your external card. If that does not work go to mount and make sure external SD is ticked in the settings, if not then tick it, Reboot recovery again. If still that doesnt work then go to Advanced, file manager, and navigate to your external SD (if you can) and find the file you downloaded, pick the zip file and move it to your internal SD. Then flash it. Regardless of any of these steps if you can find the .zip file flash it. Then reboot. Hope that helps you. You should be able to reboot to recovery any time you need to regardless of no OS. Please keep your phone charging during this whole process. If this works then make a nandroid backup in Twrp.

Edit- If none of this works then you'll probably have to adb sideload your phone to transfer the rom to your internal SD card. Otherwise you can ODIN back to 100% stock which involves a huge download and you'll have to reroot your phone. If you don't know how to ODIN to stock then get on youtube and there are plenty of videos to help you along. The basis for the note 2 (att, verizon, sprint,....) should all be the same just a different file to download.

I rebooted into recovery. I only hesitated because it warned me I didn't have an OS. That worked, I saw the ROM and am now flashing it. I will edit and let you know if all works.
EDIT: It worked, thank you so much for your time and effort! I'm sure it's a pain dealing with noobies, I hope this helps people in the future since it's very friendly to beginners. I hope to not come back to this thread and say something isn't working properly.

No problem man. Not everyone here is a butthole. Its not a pain because I was there once too. Just make sure you run a backup in twrp. You can name it too! Just practice and read around. Watch YouTube videos (I learn by visual)
And I keep my backups on PC in case a memory card goes bad. If you wipe system in recovery make sure you flash a ROM because system is obviously your OS and twrp prevents it from booting and bricking your device. Good choice on the recovery.
If it will at least boot to something there's always hope. be sure to hit the thanks button. It always helps. Glad to have gotten you up and running. If you need more help just pm me.

Azpen A700 Root - ROMs - Recovery and General Info

So I picked up this tablet at MicroCenter. Not bad for $40. Not a lot of features, but I knew that going in. Nice that it has 4.2.2 and the Play Store works like it should!
I wanted to start a general thread to keep up to date on any recoveries, fixes or ROM's people come across.
I used this method to root http://www.cydiaimpactor.com/ it worked the first try. I had to do it on an old XP machine because my Windows 8 would not load the right Android drivers. See posts below for another method.
Please post any additional information you may have on this tablet. Let's see if we can make the most out of our $40!
A special thanks to BLuFeNiX for jump starting this whole thread with his knowledge, CWM recovery and stock NANDs, and for taking time to gather all the info into a useful post.
Also thanks to extreme tester dsulliii for the willingness to sacrifice his tablet in the name of science and for all his insight and help.
Don't forget to hit the thanks button for them !!!!!

Changelog:
Code:
CWM build 5 (2013-12-02)
* corrected internal and external sdcard mount points (previously, the external sdcard was being mounted at /emmc, which is just wrong. The new mount points are /sdcard and /external_sd)
* added more partitions under "mounts and storage" (in case anyone wants to mount them or format them)
CWM build 4 (2013-11-29)
* first working build

How to install a flashable ZIP:
Boot into recovery and select "install zip from sdcard." You must be using a custom recovery for this to work (otherwise authentication will fail).
How to install a recovery image:
Copy the image file to your SD card and run the following commands via ADB or a Terminal Emulator:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/name_of_recovery.img of=/dev/block/nandg
sync
You can now reboot into CWM recovery.
Return To Stock ROM
NOTE: These images are not 100% stock because they are fully rooted. If you want true stock, just replace the /system/xbin/su binary with the original, which is preserved as /system/xbin/su.original
The easy way:
I have created an flashable zip to return to stock. You can download it here: Azpen A700 Stock ROM Flashable ZIP
Just copy it to your SD card, boot into CWM, and select "install zip from sdcard." Before rebooting, select "wipe data / factory reset."
The hard way:
Alternatively, stock images for the Azpen A700 can be downloaded here. To return to stock, download the important nand images (a, b, c, d, g) and, copy them to your SD card and then run the following commands via ADB (you must be booted into CWM if you wish to flash anything other than recovery/nandg):
Code:
su
dd if=/external_sd/nanda.img of=/dev/block/nanda
dd if=/external_sd/nandb.img of=/dev/block/nandb
dd if=/external_sd/nandc.img of=/dev/block/nandc
dd if=/external_sd/nandd.img of=/dev/block/nandd
dd if=/external_sd/nandg.img of=/dev/block/nandg
sync
Before rebooting, select "wipe data / factory reset."
Unbricking via Livesuit
First, your device needs to be in FEL mode. There are a few ways to accomplish this:
dsulliii said:
1) Make sure your A700 is turned off. (Do NOT have the micro-USB end plugged into your A700 at this time, that is for later.)
2) Start LiveSuit on your computer. (The COMPUTER end of your USB cable should be plugged into ONLY your computer at this stage.)
3) Select the ROM that you want to flash to your A700.
4) Hold down the Vol button on your device (I usually hold it down Vol-, not Vol+, but I believe that this device does not matter which.)
5) While holding down Vol, plug the micro-USB end of the cable into your A700. Keep holding down the Vol button.
6) While still holding down the Vol button, WITH the USB cable now connected between your computer and your A700, press and release the A700's Power button 10 times, and wait for a second to a few.
7) The LiveSuit program will detect your A700 going into download mode and begin prompting you for what to do.
8) Follow LiveSuit's recommendations, including formatting. It will take less than 5 minutes.
*** IF *** you don't get the LiveSuit prompting after step #6 as described in step #7, it means that you don't have the ADB-USB drivers for the A700 installed into your Windows. The easiest way to do that is to run each of the three other ".exe" driver install programs that are in your LiveSuit directory. ONE of those properly installs the needed driver to make LiveSuit detect your A700. *** EndIF ***

You can also get into FEL mode by using a specially formatted SD card. Read about it here: http://linux-sunxi.org/FEL
The file you want to write to the SD card is here: fel-sdboot.sunxi
NOTE 1: Be sure to backup the SD card first, since the data will be gone.
NOTE 2: There is no on-screen indication that your device is in FEL mode. You can tell by plugging the device into your PC and seeing if it is recognized.
Next, flash the livesuit image from here using the Livesuit software. This will install an older version of android on your A700 (a current version image is not yet available). After you unbrick, you can return to stock jellybean 4.2.2 using the instructions found above.
Partition Descriptions

After my 1st round of "what's it gonna take to root this". And I do a appreciate a fairly slim JB dist. But I think this lil guy could use a few tweaks here and there.
I'm leaning towards "Kingo Root" for simplicity's sake. Or, "Cydia Impactor" Honestly though, I'm prolly too busy to spend the interrupted time to do a root for a bit. So I'll just check in and see what's up. GMTA ComStart. Thanks!

Well, the device is already rooted over ADB. You just need to shell in and replace the su binary with one that doesn't restrict user apps from gaining root.
Getting back to stock
I'm a neophyte, so I bought this one knowing that if I broke it (which I most likely would -- and did), then I wouldn't be out a whole lot of money. My experiences in learning so far with these A13s is that they're practically un-brickable... once you ruin them, there always seems to be a way to get back on track. So after messing this one up, I was again surprised that all was not lost. I found an ICS ROM that did install using LiveSuit, and it's back up and running again. Only problem is... it was a very nice, slick little JellyBean 4.2 machine before I messed it up. I'd love to get it back to where it was before I messed it up (like I've been able to with other A13s), but ran into an unexpected impasse... CWM Recovery.
The way I got back to installed-version before was by installing a workable ROM then using CWM Recovery to copy ROM-dump files that I pulled prior to messing around back into it. Well, unbeknownst to me, THIS one doesn't have a CWM Recovery yet. And developing one is way beyond my abilities at this point... I am totally relying on you-all with way-more experience than me.
When I went to the Azpen support site, the only ROM they have is allegedly an A700/A701. THAT one doesn't flash using LiveSuit. It errors out at the beginning. So I'm guessing that Azpen support isn't up-to-date yet. I wrote to them, but haven't heard back. I really want to be able to reset it back to its original flashed ROM. Without CWM Recovery, my expected plan for restoration kind of croaked.
So here's my question.... do any of you know of an original ROM that I can get my mitts on that WILL indeed flash to this Azpen A700? I'd love to get its original JellyBean 4.2 working on it again. PLUS... the ICS ROM that DID work in it makes it a different signature... I want it to be an Azpen A700 again.
I know... asking lots and contributing nothing. I'd be thrilled to help anybody gain the same victory that I did with the Mach Speed Trio Stealth 7c A13b if they're having trouble -- in return. Just a hobby of mine, but I hope to someday be good like ya'll.

I can send you a CWM build that might work. I've been working on one. I make no promises though. My last 2 builds bricked and I had to return the tablet for a new one. I suppose you won't be in any worse of a place though, since you found a working livesuit image. Can you send me a link to the livesuit image? I haven't found a working one yet.
So, let me know if you want me to send my possibly-working CWM build.

Ya know what, BluFeNiX? I think that would be wonderful. I'm a perfect "test" person for you because I can put mine back the way it is. I'd love to be instrumental in helping to get a CWM working for it.

Okay, I found it at:
(Just discovered that I'm not experienced on the site enough to post links yet.)
It's on a dot-com site called moveontechnology, and it's by hugoenchina with a page id of 220. It's in Spanish.
Maybe you can use some of this info to locate it on Google Search since I can't post the link.
(I used Google Chrome so that I could translate the page from Spanish to English)
Then find the section just a little down the page:

As you can see, I downloaded the first one. I don't know whether the other three work or not because this one works great, although it's ICS.
If you click on that first one, it will give you another link that I can't post on depositfiles.
The actual file is mus464gwg.
Then using Azpen's LiveSuit A701.exe, after extracting the "img" out of the "zip", this "img" works.

Ya know what, BluFeNiX? I think that would be wonderful. I'm a perfect "test" person for you because I can put mine back the way it is. I'd love to be instrumental in helping to get a CWM working for it.
I don't know HOW you would send it to me though. All I've ever observed here is links within posts. Is that what you would do? Or do you need an e-mail address or something? I'm pretty thrilled to give 'er a try!

Great, thanks for testing for me! Here are the links:
CWM build 1
CWM build 2
I have included 2 builds for you to test. They both contain the same software, but I packaged them slightly differently. I'm pretty new to building stuff for android devices, so I might need a few tries before I make a successful build. Try #1 first by booting into recovery and selecting "install zip fro SD card" or something like that. If #1 doesn't work, try #2 and let me know which one worked.
If anything isn't clear, let me know and I can explain further. Thank you so much for testing for me!

Currently running the (A13)(86VS-M758C1)(CPT-OR-SKYRAINBOW-H070D-12AY-50PIN-800X480)(BLOGHUGOENCHINA).20130725.img ROM on Azpen A700.
1) Currently running actively from the desktop and selecting SystemSettings-->Backup&Reset-->RecoveryMode-->Ok. (Wait for shutdown & restart)
2) Started into "Android system recovery <3e>". Where "Android system recovery utility (EVB: vol up/vol down, home, enter)" prompt has following options:
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
3) Had copied cwm6028-a700-text.zip to internal SD card, and it does indeed list in "apply update from external storage". Seems that some folks should get some consistency between the meaning of "internal" and "external". But that's neither here nor there. So I am selecting your zip file after volume-downing to it and pressing the power button to select...
RESULTS:
-- Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
4) So now i will "reboot system now" and ensure that nothing detrimental occurred....
YEP -- No problem! Device still not bricked, so that's good for me.
The ball's still in your court on this one (that was still fun, nevertheless, thanks.)

Title: CWM build 2
Everything same as before, but this time it is "cwm6028-a700-test2.zip" that I have selected to install.
Results:
-- Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
(Still exciting though... getting to watch the status bar increase to about 5% before failing.)
Looking forward to the next hurdle. COOL!

Ah, okay! I just have to re-sign the zip file. I'll send you some resigned builds shortly.
Happy Thanksgiving

Excited to try it again. But the wife and I are about to take off across town to the oldest son's home for the Holiday feast. I may-or-may-not get to it before the day is out, but I'm going to be chomping at the bit to get home and give it another try. It's 11:30am here (Mountain time). Later, thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey, no problem. Have a happy Thanksgiving! Here are the new (hopefully correctly-signed) zips:
Signed zip test 1
Signed zip test 2
Looking forward to hearing the results!
Hey BLuFeNiX, I was fortunate to connect to xda on my son's wi-fi and download your new ones. They both failed signature verification again. He's interested as well, so we can probably keep plugging away at this through the day. -- David

Okay. Let's try this a different way. Is your tablet rooted? if so, please install Android Terminal Emulator from the Play Store.
Also, copy these img files to your internal sdcard:
Image test 1
Image test 2
Open the terminal emulator, and type the following commands:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery-TEST.img of=/dev/block/nandg
sync
reboot recovery
This will flash the recovery directly from Android instead of having to boot into recovery. If the first one doesn't work, you can try the second one. If we are successful, you should boot into CWM. If not, you'll probably need to flash using livesuit again.
If you are not rooted (you will get an error when you use the "su" command), let me know and I will tell you how to obtain root.
Good luck, and thanks again!
Yep, rooted, su worked okay in terminal, got the #.
Dowloaded okay, will try the dd flash. If it doesn't work and I have to reflash, won't be able to let you know until I get home tonight.

Forgot my cell phone had Tap-a-talk on my cell phone. Interesting... reboot recovery from terminal rebooted system, but not recovery. So used settings app to reboot into recovery. When I did that, I got little colorful Andy who just stayed there and never went into recovery nor system. Forced a shutoff using the power button. Turned on... same freeze point. Forced power off again and tried to start recovery with volume and power. Same no-go. Only could try the first img since it's stuck. Will now have to wait till we get home then I"ll flash the ICS ROM and try your second img.

ADDENDUM: The problem that I had with not rebooting recovery from a shell command has gone away. I suspect that it might have something to do with the ICS ROM that I was using partitioning the device wrong. Make sure you use BLuFeNiX's modified ROM for proper A700 partitioning, and NOT the one that I recommended earlier in the thread.

Interesting results. The second image loads the ramdisk from a different memory address, so hopefully the behavior you saw was what happens when an incorrect memory address is used. Maybe #2 is the correct one
Thanks again for doing all this testing.
Just looked over my posts from earlier. So VERY sorry about the spelling errors! I wasn't looking back to see the mis-predictions. I hate it when people do that. Anyway, on my way home now. Should be able to let you know about the second img in about an hour. (8:00pm mountain time).

Okay, I'm home now.
Before getting started, I restarted the A700 using the power button. It (again) did not progress beyond the teensy colorful Andy.
So I connected my USB cable to the computer and tried to ADB it.... ADB did not see it. I predicted it did not get any farther, but I just wanted to make sure and to let you know as well.
So I used LiveSuit A701.exe to flash the ICS "(A13)(86VS-M758C1)(CPT-OR-SKYRAINBOW-H070D-12AY-50PIN-800X480)(BLOGHUGOENCHINA).20130725.img" ROM again ... complete success as always.
After it powered up to the ICS desktop, I "ADB devices" which resulted positive. Followed by "ADB shell" whereupon I got the "#" indicating that this ROM comes rooted, it started in as superuser.
I copied your "recovery-TEST2.img" to the internal SDcard.
Went back into ADB Shell and at the # prompt typed:
su ' superfluous since already superuser
dd if=/sdcard/recovery-TEST2.img of=/dev/block/nandg
sync
reboot recovery
Again, the shell "reboot recovery" command did not reboot the recovery partition... it rebooted the system partition back into my ICS desktop.
So again I SystemSettings->Backup&Reset->RecoveryMode->Ok. And waited for it to power off and restart.
I got the small colorful Andy.... forever.... and again no sign of any additional advancing.
Still had the USB cable plugged in, so tried ADB devices again while it was sitting on Andy. No good, no ADB running.
Used the power button to force a power off.
After it powered off, waiting 30 seconds, I used the power button to turn it back on.
It displayed the colorful little Andy.... and didn't go anywhere still.
So I will re-flash the ICS ROM and wait for you to find some more magic.
Yeah, this is fun. THANKS BLuFeNiX. :good:

More experimentation. I installed Uberizer's tollkit to have it perform the reboot into recovery. Identical to the shell's reboot recovery, it also reboots into the system. It appears that this ROM and the Azpen JellyBean 4.2 ROM must know something special about this tablet, eh?

ADDENDUM: The "reboot recovery" issue from a shell command has gone away. I believe that it was most likely caused by the ICS ROM that I was flashing -- having the device partitioned incorrectly.

Alright, I am starting to run out of ideas. Try this build (use the dd method again):
CWM recovery test 3
If this one doesn't work, I'll need to spend some more time doing research. Thanks and good luck!
