WiFi antennae location - HTC Rezound

Hi, I got a quick question. Anyone know where is the resound antennae is located. Ever since I flashed to the latest ice Rom, I noticed that WiFi signal is weaker when in portraits mode. However if I switch to the landscape mode with the capacitive button on the right side the WiFi signal is stronger. Anyone notice this as well

All antennas are in the back cover of the phone... No idea where the wifi antenna in particular is though.

I think it is on the left side. So if looking at the screen, on the left. I've noticed when I'm holding the phone if my fingers are grasping on the left side the signal is cut pretty bad.

Signal loss while holding?

I'm noticing that I'm pretty consistently losing a bar of signal (cell & wifi) when I'm holding my Thunderbolt. Also, streaming music to a bluetooth receiver across the room, it cuts out a lot more than my OG Droid did when I'm holding/messing with it.
Anybody else? Is this normal?
I notice it. Drops from 4g, 2 bars, down to 3g almost all the time when i pick it up. Happens mostly inside buildings.
During antenna gate, it was shown that almost every phone has some effect when being held.
I haven't really noticed it behaving that way. When I pick mine up the cell signal bars will drop a little, but then they go right back where they were a few seconds later. 3G and 4G so far have been unaffected.
Most recent phones have the antenna in the bottom, so you have to leave it exposed to not block the signal and cause attenuation. My nexus one I can drop all the bars covering the bottom.
I'm 99% positive the antenna is placed about an inch and a half from the top of the phone. Hold the phone on the bottom half and all is good. While holding at the bottom with one hand put your other hand around the top and you'll get an instant signal fade...

Hmm. Thanks for the feedback guys. Good to know it's not a huge problem. And my issue doesn't seem nearly as bad as blusgtone's.
It does seem to occur when I touch the sides of the phone though, not really the bottom, or even the back. I can make the bars go up and down by switching back and forth between holding it at the top and bottom with my thumb and middle finger, to the sides with the thumb and middle finger.
Oh well. It still kicks ass.

Death grip on HTC Flyer?!

Just found that my HTC Flyer is affected by deat grip on WiFi!
Placing my, and perhaps yours too , hand on the bottom of the device will make WiFi signal disappr!
Anyone else experienced same issue?
Contacted HTC already about this issue.
Regards
William
It doesn't happen with mine. I have full wifi bars in both landscape and portrait mode with my hand at the bottom.

No problem here also.....
L.E. yes it happened to me but only if the distance from router is more than 7 meters....

No problems with wi-fi, only the button issues when writing. (sometimes hitting the back button by accident).
I noticed the problem too. It goes down from 3 to 1 bar reception.
It happens wen i cover the bottom part, with my hand while in landscape.
Seems the WLAN antenna is behind it.
Maybe on the 3g devices?
@the ones that works, u have WiFi only?

On my WiFi Flyer, really gripping the bottom of the devise as completely as possible in portrait orientation results in a one bar reduction in WiFi signal strength. Non-issue.
If I try that the WiFi signal strength increases by one bar.

I try dragging it into the toilet, first time I lose a bar of signal strength .
I.e. no death grip on mine as well, no matter how hard I try to cover the lower part of the device. German 3G device, yep.

iphone-like antenna issue??

I just noticed that when I put my hand around the bottom of the phone my signal drops by 2-3 bars and as soon as i remove it, it goes back up. I can do it over and over again. Just out of curiosity I tried this with my evo 4g and the signal doesn't change. I've seen a bunch of people reporting that their reception isn't as good as other phones with the 3d. could it be the antenna placement just like the iphone 4?

Can't recreate it here. Wrapped both hands around my phone like I was strangling it, didn't do it.

I would recommend getting a bumper...
No, for real though, the iphone had the issue because the antenna was built into the actual outside of the phone, when your skin touched it, it would change the attenuation which caused the issue of poor reception. Our antenna is totally internal so this would not happen.
I think your holding it wrong. Seriously though I just did the same and was unable to recreate the issue. Might be defective.

I have this problem too... Anybody claiming they don't have this problem are in a good coverage area. If you download the app open signal maps you can see the drop in dbm once you hold the device, it's very irritating
Mine does it to, very annoying.
I saw somewhere in another thread that the radio antenna is indeed on the bottom of the 3d. Dont know if thats confirmed or not. But it would explain the drop when covered by hands.

61% with nothing touching my phone.
70% with my hand covering the bottom.
56% with both hands around the phone.
I fail to see how this is like apple because EVERY PHONE loses signal when being touched. The problem with Apple's was that it dropped the calls.
Sent from my Shooter.
Yes, without anything it's at 80% and once I grab it it drops to 30%. The antenna does seem to be at the bottom unlike the 4G which was on the top.
And calls drop all the time.

My problem is that if I cover the upper part but well I almost never do that.
This needs to be recognized as a known issue since it has been brought up many times
I noticed the same thing but wierd thing is sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't.
I could recreate it for 15 tries in a row but then I closed the internet browser and moved the phone a couple inches and the problem stopped.
I will keep monitoring the signal while I grab the phone and see what happens. But yes it did happen when I grabbed the bottom.
Mine does it too...this is the only problem I have

Its not a "known issue". It just so happens that this is a cell phone. Which has antennas. Which, when covered, loose reception. No way around that. Its the nature of cell phones.
Comparatively its like complaining that when in a lead lined room, you have poor reception.

The iphone issue was caused by them leaving the antenna exposed on the outside of the phone. Whenever you would touch it in a certain spot it would short it out and you would lose the signal.

While it may not be exactly like the iphone, could it be similar in the fact the antenna placement isn't optimal? I think that most people hold their phones toward the bottom where the antenna is where as on other phones like the evo 4g they wouldn't be covering the antenna by doing this. I just know I've seen quite a few complaints regarding reception so this could be a feasible reason why.

S3 "deathgrip" issues?

Hi
Is anybody Else experiencing "deathgrip" issues with their S3?
Been all over the internet and found a few posts about the issue but nothing really helpful.
Any tips? Any ideas? Aside from using my phone upside down....

First I've heard of it so probably just people in a bad signal area and adding 2 and 2 to make 9.
I have 2-3 bars if it lays still on the table or I hold it upside down, if I hold it any way a normal person would it goes to hell.
This is in areas with poor reception but all tested numerous times in the same area. My girlfriend has a xperia s and she has no problem what so ever. My Nokia work phone also works flawlessly.

Very strange, personally i'd be thinking some local interference, is this present everywhere or just at home??
Hmm. So far so good here. No drop in dB with my hand covering the bottom area/bottom back area(s) of the phone.
some people just absorb RF more than others.
this is something i've encountered a lot at work with people using wireless microphones, guitar wireless systems and in ear monitors. certain people just cannot use this stuff because their bodies just absorb so much of the RF that the gear becomes useless if their body blocks the signal in any way.
it's a nightmare to try to explain this to some idiot who just expects his wireless mic to work absolutely perfectly from 600 feet away in a field.

Mine is a nightmare it works fine in my right hand the moment I switch to the left my voice fades in and out and people cant hear me. The problem only seems to have happened since the software upgrade and my wifi is now much better than before so can't help feeling it's something the software has introduced
If you watch the S3 disassembly video you can see that it has several antennas, so I don't think the death grip is possible with this phone..

My colleague just suggested eating less spinach. That way you lower your iron contents in your body
Guess I absorb all RF coming my way then.
But my wi-fi has lower signal strength on my S3 compared to my old Incredible S too which made me want to ask if there was only me who had the problem

Then how do I deal with Bluto?
Did a test while checking the signal strenght. -89 dBm 12 asu holding the phone upside down, -103 dBm 5 asu while "death gripping" it.
I dont know how "audio db" translates to "signal db", but surely my signal can't be 32x worse while "death gripping" it?
(Rougly calculated on the basis that every 3 db indicates a doubling in signal strenght)

Best.post.ever.
I'd like to re-bump this issue, seeing as how I experienced it too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724070
This might be a poor signal on top of the issue seeing as how its not happening to everyone. I managed to replicate this three times with my hand on stopping all signal until its released and bars are back to full.
Go to settings - about device - status. Then take write down your signal holding it normally and upside down.
If you do this we can compare the change in signal strenght on our phones.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium HD app
Normal -84 dBm
Upside Down -85 dBm
No difference at all really.

What kinda signal was that? 3G? I start to think that this is a problem in places with edge/gsm aka poor reception to begin with.
It also needs about a minute to update properly when checking the signal.

Top way up -107 dBm 4asu
Bottom way up -103dBm 5asu
Gripped as described (death-grip), -103dBm 0asu
Thats HSUPA

I thought this phone wasnt meant to have the wifi death grip...

Objects between your phone and Wi-fi source is going to have an affect on wireless signals. This includes your hand which is largely composed of water. There's nothing you can do about it.
