I checked various threads and belive the answer is no, but wanted to make sure. Can CM9 alpha 0.03 be set up to boot off SD card, as opposed to EMMC? I enjoy the stock, especially for my kids but love the dual boot aspect of the Tablet (16GB).
Thanks,
Jason

Well as of now there's no CM9 ROM that runs from SD. However, you could always just flash CM9 to internal and run a stock ROM from SD.
I put CM9 on the emmc, which brought cyanoboot with it, and now can boot cm7 from sd, as well as get into CWM via recovery, which gives me everything I want. Are you looking to keep stock and also boot CM9 from sd? Don't think that is possible atm.
Thanks
Yes, my original thought was to keep stock and boot alternate (CM7/CM9) from SD. There are some things about stock I just like...especially for the kids. But I am intrigued about flashing CM9 to EMMC and then booting stock from SD. I had some concerns about bricking but it seems like unless you get really crazy you can flash back to stock without much trouble...
Thanks.
Jason
As long as you can boot from sd you can always unbrick it...

1) I assume going back to stock would be risky after this is flashed ?
2) Currently rooted 1.43 16 gb. Can I flash cm10 with old sd version of clockwork mod ?
3) Regarding recoveries, Do I need an internal one ? if so which one and why does it matter which one ? and then what is the best way to install a recovery for cm10 ?
Thanks
I am flashing CM10 with my SD card version of CWM and it does work. I have had no issues.
Going back to stock is not really an issue. Flask Adam Outlers "acclaim_update.zip and you go back to 1.4.0 like it's right out of the box. Even better you should do a nandroid backup before anything else and just restore that. If you appear to still be rooted there is a way to unroot.
You do not need an internal recovery as long as you keep your sd card recovery.

Hi Thanks for the info. I'm comfortable flashing the rom, but I thought being kernel 3.0, it might cause a brick flashing an old kernel over it. I currently have 2 Nooks. One is bricked at the moment from trying to go from cm9 to cm7. , I think the partitions are messed up.
AOKP milestone 1 seems a lot better than the current build of cm10 on the Fascinate, so I would like to give AOKP a shot. However, the guides say to flash from a cm7 enabled CWM. If I'm on the latest nightly of CM10, would it be ok to just download the latest AOKP and flash it, or should i downgrade to cm7 then back to AOKP
No need to go back to CM7, but you should do a data wipe before switching for sure
I have read up and am quite experienced, especially with samsung flashing and Odin.
I will be flashing a coworkers verizon fascinate which is bone stock 2.3.5
to keep on subject with this thread I would like to go straight to a Jellybean ROM.
can I just... Odin the CWM recovery fixed for CM7, wipe data/cache/dalvik,etc. flash JB ROM & gapps?
Do I need GB bootloaders? shouldnt they already be there? Im not sure of his ext sd card speed class, but it is the stock 16gb ext sd. Will a low class(class 2) really cause so many problems I've read about?
Since I wont have a ton of time I would like to get to JB as quick as possible.
I will be backing up via GoBackup, will we run into trouble restoring? going from GB-->JB ?
also, just to be safe.. factory reset should not wipe the ext. removeable sd correct?
Thanks so much guys..

Yep, although you should still flash the stock EH03 first just to be safe before flashing CWM

You don't need them, and no, they won't necessarily be there. You can flash the bootloaders at a different time, but I think if you check 'bootloader update' in Odin while flashing EH03 it should do it (I have not tested this. I flashed them separately).

I don't know. I never had a problem with my stock sd card until I started flashing custom roms, and boom, all of a sudden it had problems mounting in CWM. If you want to play it safe, get a new sd card, because sometimes there aren't any warning signs (I got a 32GB class 10 for $30).

You shouldn't have a problem, but then again I've always used Titanium Backup. Never had an issue using TiBu, it's very fast and has a ton of options. Personally, I always do a full data wipe on almost every rom I flash and restore using TiBu and I'm good to go within 15 minutes.

If you mean photos, music, etc. then no, it won't. One time when I did a reset it did wipe my music, but I think that was when I had my old sd card. My photos were never touched, though.

big thanks @Crawshayi, I should probably use the alpha 2.2 .pit to Odin back stock right?
I thought I also saw a 2.2.2 pit and a v2.3 pit are these any better?

Honestly I didn't even know there were different versions of that file, I've always used the 2.2 one from section 4 of droidstyle's guide and never run into any problems. The only purpose of that file (from my understanding) is just to re-partition so I don't think it matters all that much
From my understanding you don't need cwm 4 fixed for cm 7 to flash straight from stock to jb. Only when flashing ics roms. I have had to go back to stock a few times flashing aokp jb builds. And I always step up to jb like this. Odin cwm 4 fixed for cm 7-flash ths build 2- reboot -reboot into recovery vis power menu -flash aokp milestone 6(ics)- flash aokp jb build of choice. (me stone 1 just released). And then devil kernel of choice. Currently running devil 1.6.1. Never had any problems. Going this way. And I prefer to use go back up when restoring. It's slways done me right. Is this all necessary? Idk... But it works. Just sayin...

This has been proven unnecessary, basically the new roms have scripts built in that will re-partition as needed thus removing any need to flash 'over' another rom first. I was the one who actually verified this in droidstyle's guide (check the last few pages) and he has updated the thread to reflect it. If it still makes you feel better to do so... well... rock on because I don't think it hurts anything, but I thought you should know it isn't required.
Ive got a few question about going to cm10. i think im running cm7 but dont have it with me to know exactly what version. I would like to partition the 1gb "other storage" to 8gb or so, and would like to upgrade to cm10.
1. do i need to partition first or upgrade to cm10 first. would think partition since its going to wipe data.
2. does anyone have a video on installing cm10, if not a good walk thru on the install
3. when i rooted last time it didnt like my win7 and had to use a windows xp computer is this still an issue
4. CM10 "Jelly Bean" for Nook Tablet Alpha 0.07.1 Release does this oc to 1.2 and does it have the 5 point touch?
thanks for any help

There should be videos or step by step walkthroughs in the threads. If you could install CM7, you can install CM10 (you just need to upgrade your existing recovery)

If you're already rooted, you don't need to re-root. Actually, if you have a custom recovery installed (you do if you have CM7 installed) you don't really need to root first at all, as the CM ROM file has all of the root tools built in already.

Not sure if it has the OC, but I'm pretty sure it has the 5 point ability. You still have to upgrade your touch firmware to the 5 touch, though; and doing so will prevent you from going back to stock, or even CM7 (I believe).
thanks
thanks m8
need more help
so i get to the cyanoboot screen and start fastboot on nook then in my command promt i type the fast boot part in and i get "waiting on device". on my device manager page my nook is coming up as "acclaim". any help would be great so my wife doesn't hurt me
new update
ok went with this [ROM] [WIP] CM10 PURE AOSP 4.1.2 JBV02-Hashcode Buildbot Says Hi! i think my problem was my version of cwm was around 5.0 upgraded to 6. something ans installed without a problem. little problems with sd card unmounting and going into deep sleep, side note seems like it downloads slower from playstore not positive on that yet. looks nice though.
If you're going to upgrade to ICS or JB, you'll need to flash an updated recovery. TWRP and CWM (EMMC and SD versions) are listed in the SGT7 CM10 thread.
I am in charge of several nook tablet (16gb) devices, these devices all run on the cyanogenmod nightlies. I fixed a problem with one of them recently, After fixing the problem I noticed it needed an update. After performing the update the tablet refused to boot (either shutting down before or sometimes during the bootloader).
Rather than flash back to the previous update my genius mind decided to try flashing the acclam_update zip and then flashing back to cm. The first half of this worked out well enough and I got the tablet on stock B&N software. However when I loaded the device I realised my error. some time ago I had flashed the updated touchscreen firmware that was included with the rom. Before flashing acclaim I should have flashed stock touchscreen firmware but did not, rendering the nook's touchscreen useless on the current software. Additionally (though I was aware this would happen) I now have the stock recovery mode instead of CWM.
I have struggles with adb as it is (I originally used a bootable CWM sd card for these devices but have since cleared that sd card) and I'm fairly certain I need access to the screen to use it on this device (I believe I need to activate something in the developer settings.)
So that's my problem. If anyone knows what I should do please help me out. If you need more info tell me what you need and I'll do my best to put it up here.
Run CM10 from sd card and flash the original firmware whle running it. Ready-made image tthat you can just download and burn http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/
Thank you

Just now experienced the same problem. I've been trying to get my nook to boot from SD for the last couple hours and nothing. Tried booting tethered to my laptop, the factory wall charger, etc. It's a stock Nook Table with the 10point touch driver...meaning completely unusable. Could you post what tools you used if you get it working?

Just used a 4gb class4 through a memory stick reader. It's working beautifully now, except I need to repartition it.
Interesting bug though, the home button won't take it out of sleep any more. Only the power button..?
I lost my Nook Tablet for a while and just recently found it again. I'd like to update the recovery tool and put a new ROM on it so I'm looking for suggestions.
I had previously rooted it and installed ClockWorkMod and then it is running some version of an Android ROM. I'm looking to update the ROM to something newer so I can make use of new apps etc. Also I know newer ROMs need newer recovery tools to install. Is CWM still the go to for that?
Thanks for any help!

I'm running CM 10.2 and have been very happy with it. This excellent post by digixmax should get you on your way. It's what I used to get up and running, and yes, the recovery is CWM-based.

Thanks for that! Honestly i'm not sure what is going on. I managed to get Cyanoboot on it, installed CWM 6.0.4.8, yet every single 10.1~10.2 CM ROM I get from the official directory seems to cause it to go into a weird state where the screen goes blank, then flashes white, then goes blank again and repeat etc. Eventually the tablet just restarts. I've yet to find a single ROM that I can successfully load via SD card or internal and install it through CWM. For such an old tablet, I'm surprised things are this difficult! I've spent the last few days flashing back to stock on so many occasions when things have gone wrong. I wish I could try some other ROMs that aren't on the official CM repository however most ROMs have been hosted on Goo.im and while the site works, it is so slow you aren't even sure if the file is downloading. I wish there was more custom ROMs I could try because every official CM from 10.1 to 12.1 is bricking or failing to install! I'm honestly at my wits end.

I'm not skilled enough to give advice relative to your problem, but I might suggest you go for 10.0. Many people seem to think that this is the most stable of the lot, although it does seem there is something else going on with the problems you describe--maybe the SD card?
