I need help.Im very confuse the way my phone is acting. I downgraded my phone to hboot 1.4 and installed the ruu 1.13.651.7 and then did revolutionary to get s-off. After I did that, I downloaded superuser and then updated my radios, firmware etc with freeza's all in one zip. People say that when you flash that you're suppose to end up with 2.17. My problem is that my phone stays at 1.13. I tried to flash it several times and nothing changed. So after that I was searching on the forums and found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443592 but unfortunately the link to download it does not work. So then I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420206 I downloaded the last one on the bottom "Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_odex.zip". I renamed the file to PG86IMG.zip and went into bootloader, it was reading the file but it did not ask me if i wanted to install it.So since that didn't work I when into 4ext custom recovery and installed the file from there. When the phone turns back on I go to settings to check if there was any changes and it said 2.17. I got a little bit happy there. When I flashed MeanROM ICS v0.91 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645211 my build number went back to 1.13. So right now I have 1.13 again. I am very confuse, I want to get 2.17 on my phone but I don't know what's happenning. Any suggestions or ideas? Should I use leave it like that or try to update it to 2.17?

If you flash old ROMs you will still be on 1.13, but with newer firmware and radios.
Check your PRI_Version, if it is 1.42_003 then the 2.17 zip flashed successfully.
And the v0.91 of MeanROM is an ICS ROM with sense 3.6?
If yes then your phone is normal and dont have any issues , since the ICS leak has 1.13.652.1 version (while the oldest gingerbread were .651 instead) .
try any other gingerbread ROMs that are 2.17 based and check the software number and you will see 2.17 there.

Have you flashed the virgin mobile ICS firmware? I asked because I dont know if you can still use gingerbread Roms with it. I had not flashed the Virgin Firmware yet, so Gingerbread Roms work for me. The gingerbread MeanROM or viperROM were one of the best ROMs. Try them but the gingerbread version this time.

So i think i am getting lost and I really want to be careful before i re-start my crack flashing habits again.
I flashed senseless ics, loved it, but wanted to go back to gb. So i went back to senseless 1.1, extracted boot.img, and adb pushed and flashed then did a nandroid back up and every thing is A-ok .
Here is my confusion.
What problems are ppl refering to with Mainver? ( what is that even )
Why do ppl have to RUU ( again what is it)
is my method right ? Which is : if the rom came with an auto script to flash from hboot then hurray, if not, then flash boot.img from adb via fast boot and flash to my liking ?
the only roms i gave been on so far : cleanrom 1.5.5, inefebellis, senesless 1.1, senseless ecs, then back to senseless 1.1 via nandroid like mentioned.

ruu is flashing stock. method is right with the boot.img which is also the kernel but without other kernel files found in the flashable zip. If the rom doesnt have the boot.img u can also use cleanflash tool to flash the kernel/boot into your current rom, restart, then wipe/flash rom

RUU files are the official software releases from HTC.
RUU files are signed. (They give proper "official" codes to hboot to get past the s=on security)
This means that they can flash all parts of the device, even the bootloader and radio firmware, which we can not normally flash because it is write locked. (do to s=on we can't flash them even with root)
Sometimes people have issues and need to get the phone back to pure stock so they use the RUU.
Mainver is data on the software version number of the kernel (I believe... it may be for some other part, either way it is version info)
Think V1... V1.2... V1.5... V1.5.5
Because of s=on we are not allowed to "downgrade/revert" to older software versions.
The leaked ICS build has a newer Mainver, some people flashed the leak unmodified, and that changed the Mainver info. Now they need to use a special trick to trick the s=on security to allow flashing of older kernels. The ICS ROMs we have now, have been modified so they do not change the Mainver. This makes it easier to go back to GB or switch to other ROMs.

Good write up !

Thank you Thank you Thank you ! best crash course ever ...
So I achieved s-off on my first try, and was feeling cocky. So, I downloaded Newt's new 4.0, with the patch for old firmware from Nil's Rom. I am writing this from my rezound now, but whenever I try to go back to chingy's gb Rom, it hangs at the 4g screen. I have tried to use the image the Rom produces, pm98img from another gingerbread Rom, incredikernal, and fast l
booting the boot.IMG file from said sources. What am I doing wrong? Besides messing with stuff I shouldn't. I thought going back to gingerbread would be simple if I stayed on old firmware. Does anyone know where to go from here? I can install Newt's xXx Rom and boot with no problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I fixed it by using the PH98IMG ruu, then using the juonutbear hboot patch. Then reloaded Amon Ra. Flashed Chingy's rom, then my back up. There was alot of drama in the middle of all that. Mostly caused by the user. I flashed so many different things, that i would have trouble telling you what i flashed to get back. I scoured xda for several hours before attempting to try this, and hours more before i asked for help. Thanks to those that helped.
easyy fix
the 2.1 is just a patch you need to do 2.0 first which is newtoroot rom then 2.1 for the patch and yes you do need to use the sense4_boot.img again
The old ROMs didn't contain firmware. So if you installed the ICS leak RUU then you have the new firmware and need to flash the "old firmware" patch. As far as kernels go, you should always flash the kernel that came with the ROM(except for GB ROMs where you can use incredikernel).
I think this will work for you. Backup your current ROM(if you want), then flash a GB RUU, then flash a GB ROM/kernel. Make a backup of that. Now you should have a GB firmware backup and an ICS firmware backup.

He was saying he just installed Newt's rom,but still on GB firmware. I think all you have to do is reflash Chingy's rom, but wipe first and then make sure your installing GB's kernel. I have had similar issues , where I had to install a rom with the stock kernel first before going back to custom kernels. So maybe install Scott's earlier GB rom first or Nil's GB business sense rom they both use the stock kernel.
Not sure why that seems to work, but for awhile I had the exact same issue going from ICS to GB and back. Only solution I ever found was to wipe a few times install a rom , then stock kernel.
Mjh got it right. I have back ups of both. whenever i try to go back to gingerbread now, i get stuck at the 4g splash. i have tried several gb kernels and still no dice. i think a ruu is in order. I have the exe RUU on my pc. It is taking forever for the PM98IMG Ruu to download. Can i run exe file on my S-off phone and then use recovery to load one of my older gb roms.S-off was easy compared to this. Thanks for any and all advice.

Yes, you can ruu , just remember if your on stock hboot you will have to relock and that will affect what your bootloader says. Otherwise, also make sure after the ruu to reflash amon ra recovery.
Did you try the stock ota kernel ?http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1476152
Try the GB kernel on this page and see if it works before RUUing.

I'm brand new to this phone and the rezound section on xda. I bought two of these phones yesterday and have both of them S=OFF at the moment. (Last night's fun)
In hboot they say "locked" even though S=OFF on both devices. I'd like to install an ICS ROM, but I'm not really sure what I need to install first before installing the ROM so it doesn't get all messed up.
I remember installing/flashing something on my Sensation to get ICS running on that device, but I'm just a little confused with the steps in the Development section because I'm new here.

HBOOT 2.11.0000
I flashed the hboot after jhboot and I'm not sure if this is the right one for ICS?
android Version: 2.3.4
I would suggest running the latest RUU and then installing whichever ICS ROM you want.
woah wait what
what are you guys saying?
I was stock,GB,rooted, SOFF.
my hboot said 's-off' and '***LOCKED***'.
you don't need to do anything special, you are s-off!
just get the 600mb ph98img.zip from the latest leak and drop it on your SD card.
it'll have to flash twice (first reboot after boot/recovery is flashed, then it does the rest the second time through)
that's how i went to the leak, still locked and s-off. and it runs great!

So its just that simple for those of us SOFF and GB?
1) Put the PHxxxx.zip image on the SD
2) Boot it into HBoot twice (not flashing via recovery)
3) Flash over our favorite ICS Rom
No patches, no nothing? Is this right?
There are like 10 files in this link.

Do I install an ENG hboot... Do I install a ICS RUU file or a GB one? I'm assuming the bigger the number the newer RUU?
I'm not sure when you say about rom... i'm flashing the 600mb leak file from yesterday (5/7/2012) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641249
it has the radios, boot, recovery, kernel, rom, everything. I just did it all, like an OTA upgrade.

Is there something wrong with the Custom ROMs? (Please Developers don't stone me)
I just came from a device with tons of custom ROMs that were way better than anything stock and would install a kernel and everything through recovery when you were installing the ROM...
I'm just not used to the process yet with this device.
I don't think there's anything wrong with them.
I just haven't taken the plunge yet, still researching.... regardless, Once you're fully up to date on the latest RUU, going to a custom rom based on it will be a piece of cake. But i'm not sure the developers have updated their roms to all the latest leaks, in which case, check with the rom you're trying to upgrade to - I'm not certain they all include new kernels/radios...etc. like the leaked ICS does.

Great question, let me test that right now.
Edit: seems to not work straight up with the one from the market. i'll check a different .apk that I have here, i know the custom roms use their own .apk's usually.
as i recall from doing this on GB, you gotta configure it right, and then it'll work. But you DO need root, so after you RUU, install AmonRA 3.15, and run the su/superuser install from the recovery menu.
I would like to FINALLY S-OFF to make life easier and I am currently running Newt's one XXX Rls 1.0 on the ICS Firmware. MY question is if anyone can point me to a definitive guid on what I need to do to get back to the correct stock rom in order to do this, if anyone can point me in the correct direction for easy instructions that'd be great, my searches have put me in 20 different places and have given me a headache... thanks!!!

That should do it for you as far as ensuring you flash a working stock ROM, good instructions. If you want the latest leak, since it is highly likely the OTA given the numbers HTC leaked today:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27244835
Note the attachment if you have root issues, read and check after flashing this one.
Pretty sure those unlimited.io instructions about being on a stock ROM are just to cover their butts for troubleshooting. Unless the custom ROM has issues with USB debugging or issues with root, should be fine. That is what the concern in the instructions is truly about, proper access for the program to work its magic. Just saying XXX RLS 1 should be good to go lol.
I was wondering the same thing I'm on the gb firmware running rezrom sense 4. So are you saying I can s off just how my phone is or do i need to flash something else first. Should I flash ice firmware first or just s off?

Can't tell there since XXX is not based on Rezound firmware, it's ported... Have to check bootloader version and match up with firmware. (see below)
Make it safe and by the book, simply back up your data, and then flash to a stock rooted ICS ROM. That said:
http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear-public-beta-0-1/instructions/htc-rezound/
Well this is why this advice is simply off the cuff. In theory you'd just grab the corresponding bootloader regardless of the ROM used with. But the files are labeled by firmware version with no hboot label. I know a 2.25 hboot corresponds to the 3.14.605.5 file, 2.21 hboot to the ICS builds before that. 2.11 hboot to the latest GB firmware...
Check the hboot version in your bootloader and match it up with the proper package based on that info, if you wish to attempt on current ROM. If you have 2.21 I am unsure if that could be "Early ICS" or 3.13 leak, have to look at radio numbers then which I don't know off the top of my head...
Again, recommend you backup ROM and flash the 3.14.605.5 firmware rooted for the procedure just to ensure you get through the S-off properly. Get your JuopunutBear hboot on there, reflash recovery, and restore the ROM backup or try an upgrade...
Famester, you have GB firmware and so you only have one package to choose from. You have a better chance than Burkejt1 of just going ahead with S-off using GB package. Remember to do a ROM backup.
If you flash ICS firmware for the procedure too, remember to use the backup afterwards means it must be repatched for new firmware mounting points. Patch after restoring it but before booting the ROM.
Okay, I'm working until 11pm EST tonight and I'll flash the stock rooted ROM for your first post, and then attempt this S-OFF business with a paperclip and some electrical tape.
Thanks for your help I'll let you know how it goes I have been meaning to do this for a while and I think I'll finally have the time to tonight.

I was in the same situation before I s-off'd. I stayed on the GB firmware (and still am) but I flashed one of scotts stock roms. scottsroms.com Just to be safe. I also made sure I was on Amon Ra only for the s-off process. I typically prefer TWRP after my initial struggles with Clockwork.
Good luck y'all. It seems scarier than it is.
For the last week or so, I've noticed my Wi-Fi has been dropping in and out. I had been trying some JB ROMS lately and restoring to another Sense ROM. I figured it needed a big refresh, so I ran the 403.605.2 RUU from the root of the SD card in the PH98IMG.zip form.
Still the same issues, and now my 4G is really flaky.
Now I'm wondering if my phone is just on its way out.
Is running the RUU from a PC better?
Can I do any other wipe/flash combos to reset it even further?
I am S-Off...
Run the ruu again and perform a factory reset in hboot BEFORE installing a custom recovery.

Thanks for the info. I had run the 4.03.605.2 RUU a couple of times, and also the latest official RUU that updated to 4.05.605.14 with the correct radios you listed. I have no idea what was going on, but my phone seemed to get worse every step. It would reboot, Wi-Fi quit, the 4G quit. It would go into a bootloop on the white HTC screen and wouldn't boot until I ran the RUU again. It finally went to that mode where it wouldn't boot at all until I charged the battery for a few hours. I figured it was hosed, and started browsing eBay for something new.
I finally ran the latest official RUU again and let it update OTA to the latest. I then did a factory reset under settings, then from the bootloader. I ran it stock for a day, then finally last night installed Amon RA and installed EclipticRez v9 and (fingers crossed) things seem to be back to normal.
I really wish I knew what happened, and I'm wondering if it could be battery related. I was sure it was something hardware related. Nothing I did for the couple of days before I first posted helped...
Weird...my phone wasn't that loopy...I've seen similar errors on other posts but if followed proper steps should work fine...I always read twice and flash once just to be safe instead of getting flash happy lol..I updated radios because signal and battery life was poor and read that jelly bean required the latest ruu...so I did tons of research
