I loaded a leaked ICS rom with Webtop 3.0 beta on my Razr Maxx, got a HD dock with 3 USB ports, a KVM switch, and a micro hdmi to VGA adapter and hooked it all up.

Thats good usage! I tried with t-mob leak on webtop and gmail was just blown up rather than the tablet version. Am I missing a setting?
Update: found it!! Typical ics.
When you open gmail, bottom right is a maximise type icon. This flicks from phone to tablet mode. This is available for a few apps.

I'm going to order the padfone tablet dock when its released to check and see if by default the razr ics webtop will automatically recognize the touchscreen. if so, i will modify the case for my RAZR. I'm sure since ics supports different resolutions, a generic dock should be released as an accessory for all ics devices. If the kernel needs to be modified to use the dock, hopefully someone will create a ROM with the mod. Ubuntu os with webtop is a flop idea, too slow and troublesome. Redirect effort towards this type of realization. One device, all form factors.

Funny enough i was talking about this idea 2 days ago, I want to get a closer look at a padfone tablet section so i make it work with the ravr or us the idea to make a mold for the razr.
Problem is i dont think it's going to make it to the UK but i'll keep you all posted if i get my hands on it.
I don't currently own a Webtop enabled phone but I have wanted one for a while now. I am on Sprint and have a SERO account which I would like to hang onto so when I heard about the Motorola Photon Q I watched it with a lot of interest. As more info kept being released I got more and more disappointed. Finally I noticed that the phone won't come with Webtop.
Seems strange considering it is going to be priced like a high-end phone yet it is missing a relatively important feature most high-end Motorola phones have. Even the Atrix HD won't have Webtop but according to Motorola they didn't include it to make the phone more cost effective.
So those 2 phones won't have Webtop but on top of that the lapdocks are being sold for really cheap yet there hasn't been any announcements of a successor or refresh. The last lapdock released, as far as I know, was the 500 Pro and that came out 8 months ago. It hasn't been a year yet but that is still a really long time without a refresh to a phone accessory.
I know it is a little too soon to tell if Webtop has been discontinued and we won't know for sure till Motorola comes out and confirms it but I was just curious what others thought about it.
Sorry if this has been discussed before but I did a search and couldn't find anything.
Android 4.0 doesn't use webtop anymore because it just switches into tablet mode when plugged into a tv or external monitor via hdmi.
As long as I can run my phone at higher resolution through an hdmi cable, who cares what they call it?

Is it that way with all android phones using 4.0 that have video out? Thought most android phones that can do video out just did screen mirroring without switching to a tablet mode.
Anyways, the main reason I am interested in Webtop is because of the lapdock. I wouldn't use Webtop on a TV or monitor but the lapdock would be the sole reason for me wanting Webtop. I know I could get a cheap android tablet but I'd rather have a lapdock since it is laptop-like and it would contain everything on my phone. Don't really want 2 separate devices.
As far as I know the lapdock will only work with Motorola phones that have Webtop. Correction welcome if that assumption is wrong.
You don't have to do tablet mode, you can choose to just mirror your display.
The thing is that despite webtop was based on linux, you only had one desktop program, Firefox, and better resolution.
The only difference at ICS is that you will use either the android version of Firefox, or just the Chrome. It's a faster solution, but it lacks at the flash support part.

No, sorry, thats not the only diffrrence!
Its much bigger. With the real Webtop you have got a real Linux system so you can use libreoffice, gimp and so on.
With tablet mode you have an fuc* android on an untouchable lapdock display.
With linux you can get n programs on the screen. With android you have only on. To change through the open programs, you get illness...
There re many differences!

I have a UK Lapdock and a US Razr Maxx. I have the cables and I can connect the lapdock with HDMI and I get video and audio but no interface with the Micro USB. I have reloaded the roms and webtop stuff but still a nogo.
Does anybody have some experience with this?
Thanks.
I am rather sure its caused by using a wrong (not fully wired) micro usb cable. I also tried different ones, even those stated as "real" extension but no success. Afterward i decided to modify the lapdock to get the razr fitted and it worked like a charm.

Hi Everyone,
I'm going to be purchasing an Unlocked Atrix 4G with the Lapdock for it.
The Atrix 4G runs Android 2.3, but can run Icecream Sandwhich and Jellybean using a Custom ROM.
I have a few questions which I've been looking to solve for some time now.
1) Does the Lapdock have HDMI Out, or just the phone? (And does the lapdock disable HDMI out?)
2) Does the Lapdock work Custom ROMs? (It'd be nice to use it with Android 4, rather than 2.3). I'd prefer WebTop but Mirroring is okay.
3) Do custom ROMs support the Motorola Travel Adapter Kit (Micro HDMI to VGA adapter for projectors, supports Atrix 4G)
Thanks!

Any custom ROM with the 3.1.10 kernel does not have any HDMI access, and thus no mirroring as well.

I have a used laptop dock for using as a Screen for my xbox 360. while the wife wants the TV LOL
But I dropped on a used Atrix 4g today on orange and when its put in the laptop dock the option for webtop does not show.
I'm running stock rom unrooted etc.
version 45.31.0MB860.Orange.en.GB
android version 2.3.4
WebTop WT-1.2.0-133_39
any help please.
I have flashed the above sbf file and it still does not give me the option.
Thanks
Try downloading nebtop, run it and connect the atrix to some hdmi monitor other than lapdock. Then see if webtop is still missing
