k so i have the sprint evo 3d but on of my boys has at&t gs2.. and he wants me to fully root it for him.. i really never messed with anything but htc phones so im cluless.. the main reson he wants me to root it is because he wants free hot spot.. i kno i can get that with my phone rooted is that possible if i root his phone?? thanks in advance

It's actually quite a bit easier to root than an HTC phone.
Free hot-spot has nothing to do with root, I believe.

Sure it does. Root is required for wireless tethering and/or deleting the TetheringManager apk.

For some reason, I always think we got free wifi in AT&T, McDonald, Panera, ..... hot-spots unless OP wants to host a wifi hot-spot. Maybe I misunderstood.

Oh, you bring up an interesting point...I assumed he meant mobile hotspot/tethering. But I could have misunderstood as well...if he means hotspots like McDonalds and Panera, you're right about root not being an issue.

I'm on an Evo 4G, and I am trying to decide if I should go for the Evo 3D.
It's probably premature to ask - but based on the comments about the bootloader locking, does it look like Evo 3D will be unlockable at any point soon after it's release? Wireless tethering is a necessity for me and I don't want to pay the extra fee.
I appreciate any speculation!

Come on!!! No one knows yet. Bootloader will be unlocked, just got a system dump the other day so they could be working on it as we speak. However no one knows if Bootloader will be unlocked, unlikely, when released or if it will be an OTA, most likely and when that would even be.

Well then I take back anything I told you about the bootloader being , or getting, unlocked, Also that stuff about how they just got a system dump with in the past 48 hours that is worth anything and that as far as we know they may be working on Root as we speak. Yeah ignore that part too.

Nexus S4G has free tether you know and is available now no root needed. Just sayin.

Giving this it's own post- not because I feel special, but because it's so easy for this to get lost in the shuffle as it pertains to 4G connectivity after root. And I seem to be one of the few whose 4G is working.
I rooted my MoPho using [ACS] Photon 4G AIO root and lost 4G connectivity like so many others did. The next day, I restarted my phone and 4G was working flawlessly.

This screenshot is just to show I am in fact rooted.
I don't have the knowledge some of you have when it comes to this Moto rooting stuff. It was easier to do on the Evo. Please don't ask me anything detailed cause the only thing I did after applying root was go to bed. I rebooted my phone sometime the next afternoon and 4G was working.
Honestly im happy yours is working but please....ask yourself this next time before posting....what am I developing?...please post matters like this in the general section.

Anyway [email protected] you're right. My sincere apologies I thought I was unlocking it. In order to install apps root; roms unlock. I thought rooting was providing the unlock.
I realized this from another thread.
Since I'm essentially not unlocked, only rooted, a mod can delete this thread. Again, my apologies.

Sounds to me like you fully understand what kinda threads will be flamed for being redundant/retarded. Yes, it is the general section and you can start whatever threads you please, on the flip side, people like myself will be there to say things like "hey, think twice before wasting my screen space with your dumbass threads, you make me move my thumbs too much..."

You know, normally I don't have a problem with threads, but you've just come in here saying "I got wiimote working, cool, lulz" and stuff, but have provided no information.
If you have wiimote working on an AOSP rom, you're quite late to the party. However, if you have it working on a Sense based rom, you should inform people how you did it, rather than just saying you have it working. People aren't flaming you for the thread in general, they're flaming you for the lack of information.
He has had multiple threads deleted because of lack of anything with substance. He will get the picture eventually.

You get an answer or any kind of HELP, press the THANKS button, DON'T post "thanks", you're already welcome, but is it really relevant to post a whoooole post just to say "thanks"? really? There's a button for that.
Press thanks on every rom thread you open and download, you don't have any idea the countless hours devs spend creating the ROMs they do JUST FOR YOU to have better experience using YOUR device, though he/she is getting nada for it. Be grateful, press THANKS!
Donate to a dev if you can, a little donation is a very welcome and very much appreciated form of showing a dev their work is loved and appreciated, their countless hours of their own personal time was totally worth it and that you end users think they deserve just a kind token of appreciation for their work. It goes a long way, even if it's a simple 5 bucks, most of them are college/high school students, like many of our devs here, so hit that thanks button and donate if you can, it's very much appreciated.
Do Not PM devs or common regs or MODS unless they say they're okay with getting PM's, have a problem with a post? Then report it, not everyone wants their inbox being blown up with irrelevant questions and things that can be found in a forum, they usually have support threads, use those to let a dev know something, ONLY PM if it is absolutely important like you're-gonna-die-if-this-person-doesn't-help-you important. Got it? The reaction of some people will be VERY NICE for PM's about none sense and YOU cannot feel insulted if you get a rude response, you simply went looking for it.
I shall continue this post as I see things to be added, that is all, now go have fun reading, since that's where we learn all the basics before practice, you read read read, watch youtube videos of someone doing it. To be fair, without the end user, your product is useless, but I get what you're saying.
Dark, I see your zeal, but it is time wasted. People do what they want regardless of what is said. Some of us fought the battle and got nowhere. I always like to see someone take up the mantle tho, keep it up
For everyone else, show some fkn courtesy and listen to what is being said. This isn't xda-babysitters! I'm out!

I came here as a regular member as well, very first phone I've ever actually contributed to, I'm glad I did, the work we all put in, you guys more than me has made the support on this device remarkable.

I agree. I made my Amaze toolkit for myself since I warrantied my phone in ever other day and wanted to make the process of rooting quick and easy. Then I shared it and made it better for myself.

I have a YouTube channel and you'll be surprised how many people message me asking them to "walk them through" the process of rooting and flashing a rom -_- I give them links and threads but that's not enough because they're "new to Android and don't feel comfortable" :/
