I think Shifts are unlocked at least the ones that are offered on eBay, afaik. But in order to use the WinMo side fully, you have to liberate it, HardSPL and install one of the ROMs available on this forum to enable GPS. HTC crippled WinMo and locked a lot of functionalities such as GPS, SD card access, Phone, Blue Tooth, and WiFi. Currently we are able to get GPS functioning. We are still working on microphone, video, phone, BT, WiFi and SD.
Thanks

i have one for sale, unlocked
used it 3 times since i bought it,
where u located ?
im in canada (toronto)
looking for $1200 usd
let me know if interested
thanks!
Negri Electronics carries them and can ship them anywhere! I've bought numerous devices from them!
Negri - $785!
Just picked up mine here:
http://www.negrielectronics.com/product_info.php?products_id=2159
Free shipping!
Where are you located? I'd like to sell mine. It's been used less than half-dozen times. It's fully unlocked and liberated, but I can put it back to original factory default. I'd sell it for US$1000 if you pay for shipping. I am in Brazil, but I can arrange for a friend who lives in the US to take it up with her so so that you pay only for domestic shipping (if you are in the US, that is!)
Probably you need to look at the market place. There is someone selling it.
Why are you selling your Shift?
Are you not happy with it? I have an AT&T Tilt and it is WAY too small for my eyes and hands. I want a phone that is at least twice this size. Looks like the Shift is ideal for me. I'm trying to scrape up enough $$$ to buy one. But when I saw two folks on this thread wanting to sell theirs it worries me a little...
I wouldnt worry about it. Different people have different needs.
I love the shift and even with the failings (no bluetooth or wifi on windows mobile side, etc) it's a great unit.
But it's not really a phone. If you are looking to replace the tilt you might be better looking at an Advantage. Double the screen size, a powerhouse and also a pretty good phone. The advantage would be a double size increase from the tilt IMHO and the shift a four times increase.

Yes. I completely agree with you. I use my shift most of the time on vista side to take notes and read ebooks and listen to audio books. If I could increase the RAM to 2GB I would like to opt out from Dell 620, which I use for .NET and BizTalk development. Once I am done with Vista, I switch to WinMo to get the emails from various email providers, again as soon as I go into a meeting I switch to Vista. That way I found a job for both Samsung Omnia (phone) and Shift personal communicator. I use my advantage as a GPS, personal communicator (IM, email, SMS). I use my Advantage as personal computing power house. I recently retired HTC Hermes and Tilt before switching to Omnia and Shift. Then I found I might need another system which is not small like phone and not big like shift for majority of communication deals. So, I found HTC Advantage as the solution. I got Omnia as handy camera and camcorder (5MP camera and decent camcorder 640x480 with 30fps) and the latest ROM update from Samsung fixed a lot of issues, but still I find having a keyboard would be easier to do a lot of IM and SMS. . Once I got this Shift, I temporarily retired Sony PRS 500. Eventhough it is cool on eyes while you are reading for more than couple of hours, I feel like carrying a lot of gadgets while flying is painful, taking them out and putting them back into the bags is pretty awful especially if you are running out of time.

The opening post on this thread is at least 1 year old! The guy must have bought a shift by now!
I'm currently pondering buying a HTC Hero.
My question is though:
Would you still buy it right now or would you wait for the next android phone HTC is releasing (in the coming 2-3 months).
I'm currently torn between buying an Hero or waiting, I've read a bit about the HTC Dragon/Zoom 2 because it has a higher resolution, but the current specs state it has a 4.2 inch screen.
Which is way too large for me.
So, any current HTC Hero owners care to state their personal opinion on the matter?
Thanks
Would still buy it, love the design, and i have had it for over a month and been using it all the time .. It's the best mobile i ever bought!
Since a lot of android phones are coming out I would wait.
But if you are looking for a small and powerful device instead of a big smartphone then it's the right choice, in my opinion.
If you wait, you will always be waiting. The market moves so fast that there is almost a new device coming in 2-4 months that may or may not be better than what is out.
You can always Ebay it and buy another one if you want a newer phone.

Exactly.
I will be looking at the X3 when it is out, I was so keen on it I thought about waiting.
The hero is a great phone, bugs have been fixed and the Rom cookers are just getting going with it. Get the hero, enjoy it for a few months, suff it on ebay if you want a change and get something new in the spring- thats what I'm doing.
have it since it came out and the only thing i would change is the color, black or brown instead of white. nothing on the market beats it so yes, if i was buying now, i would buy Hero. HD2 brings great promises for future phones, but it's WinMo, so it's just a promise of Android to come with that hardware.

Why are you dissapointed with the white phone? Doesent it have some "extra" function that the brown and black doesent have? In my opinion it looks good..
would buy it again. the hardware is very decent, performancewise, featurewise & haptic-wise (a.k.a. it performs well, has all the nice sensors you could need and the look&feel is great also). the software has already been modded extensivly, and since the kernel sources are out since last week the real good stuff is still to come... if you wait then you will have to wait until the new device is released, then till it is rooted, then till someone cooks a decent rom, then for the kernel sources, then for someone to actually use the kernelsources... if you're not into doing this as the first person in the world then get an "old" (as in 'a few months on the market') device.
and just get the fact, you will never be up-to-date in the it business...
if you must go android, go hero.
if i had my time again, i'd go iphone...it's too 'early days' for android....
Buy the phone, it's really nice and it's always developing cos of the apps. I am happy with my phoen had it 3 weeks now and it will last well.
Hero 2 will be a while yet and that will be worth getting if HTC improve on this one and not stay still.
Get it, you won't be regretting it.
I would definitely buy it again.

I totally agree.
I came from winmo on a HD and now I won't touch winmo, although if M$ ever get their arse into gear and bring out winmo7 I will take look but it would have to have some killer features to lure me away from android.
Put simply Android is awesome, took me a few days to get out of my corrupt winmo mentality and get used to Android. The Hero is real nice , personally I could do with a bigger screen but if you don't need a bigger screen get that Hero bought now!

i'm not disappointed, i just think black and brown look a lot better. When i bought it i didn't have a choice, now there is. Also, i like the soft rubbery feel of the black one, teflon is nice but nothing really special. The soft black one is great.

iphone is good if you like apple choosing what apps you can and cannot have and at&t coverage is far from stelar...
not trying to start a war but those are a couple of the many reasons why i like my i wouldn't buy an iphone and bought the hero
Hi,
I agree with other posters, that if you wait, you'll always be waiting. The HTC Dragon looks like it may be interesting but by the time it's in your hand there'll be a 1.5Mhz phone out.
After years with UIQ and WinMo, the Hero is the best phone I've had. Sure the screen is smaller than on the HD but it's a proper, capacitive touch screen. Also no stylus.
Also the Hero feels more "connected". Even with the power and functionality of the HD, I never felt truly mobile with it. With the Hero I feel much more able to update my blog, my facebook, twitter etc. This may be due to the lack of a stylus but it also seems far quicker connected to t'internet.
Just my half shilling.

I buy my Hero, 2 weeks after it was released. I'm still new with android, ut i like'it i love'it. Usualy i get verry fast boored by a phone, i must say that i have'it for 3 months allready and it will last long for sure. In the place where i work i got wi fi, and i make a chalenge with my husband( He has a blackstone) wich one is faster. . I won!( Then our colegs start to cal us the htc family ) Besides allways u got something on the market for your phone, and think about, is an open source for development . So go for it!Just do it!
Go on buy it!!!
I would buy it again and again...
I was going to wait to see what is going to be coming out soon... but then I thought... why? If something new comes out - it's only a matter of time (usually 2-3 months) before something newer will be released.
You can't get better than the Hero right now. I've had HTC phones for a few years now and they have all been good.
Android is awesome!

I had a very good working HTC Kaiser with WM6.1. I used the ported Android which ran slow. But the experience I had with the ported Android, made me decide to buy the Hero.
You are Dutch, as I am, so why don't you have a look at Marktplaats? I bought mine there, too. Just ask them for their receipt they received when they bought it.
When you want more info, send me a private message.
as for a question: would I buy it again... YES.
as for a question: is it too early for android... YES
To be honest, I love it. WM is crap and we all know it. And for some people who don't want an I-phone, this is an alternative.
I have some weird principles... I haven't bought Nokia since 1994 - i know everybody had one, but I loved my Ericsson, i have never bought a BMW - I know it handles great and sometimes when I want to have some fun I borrow one from my friends, but generally i don't like it, I drive Audi, I will never buy a shirt that says D&G in your chest because it's just plain stupid, I prefer my clothes to be quality products but not to show off to everybody... and then again I have an I-pod because there is just no alternative...
And when it comes to phones I like to try something else than I-phone and Hero is the one to try... Gadget of the Year by "T3", Gadget of the Year by "Stuff"... I think we have a good phone in our hands.
And the fact that it is too early for Android... yes it is, but is it not wonderful to be a part of an evolution??? I think it is just amazing.
Hello everyone =)
I was just looking for some input from the phone community.
I am thinking about upgrading my phone since my 2yrs is up and I figured why not sell my HD2 to pay the cost?
This is my 3rd HD2 so i cant even get a new one through Asurion smh. I have had this one for two months. I have all the accessories, box, etc. And it has no scratches, cracks, etc. It also has a custom ROM (which i'd probably revert back to TMO before selling).
How much is too much for a used phone?
I was thinking $200. Is that too much or too little?
if you have the box and all you can get 300+ online but if its just the phone you could get 250 atleast. I'm selling mine as well because i just upgraded to a G2.
How do you like the G2? I think i'll try the HD7...
I have the box, charger, headphones, paper booklets, phone glove and all.
I most likely won't sell it online though probably locally. I just want to put out a good asking price on it b/c since technology advances so fast and new phones coming out all the time its always something better.
Also, does the software make a diff. in price? Should I consider that also?
You have all the necessary belongings so it will sale for a good price. Locally would be okay but you may often deal with people trying to get it for a cheaper price. I dont know how much your looking for but i would atleast look for $250-$275. you can try Craigslist but people will try to talk you down on the price. Ill have my G2 on wed, i tried out the Hd7 and the G2 in stores and i went with the G2, the Hd7 looks real nice though but i wanted a keyboard again. Software makes somewhat of a difference, i put Android on mine and the latest rom.
OH ok...I haven't tried playing with adding android on mines yet...I'm sure I'd def. be able to get a good amount for it if that were on there...
I haven't even thought about CL. I know for sure when I get a price i'm sticking to it even though my upgrade will only cost me about $175
if your upgrade price is $175, $200-$225 should be good since your not looking for much.
True. since i invested so much in this phone (300+130+130) i'd def. like to get what its worth in general. esp since its in new condition.
Thank you much for your responses =)
your welcome. let me know how you like the HD7.
No problem sure will =)
I welcome all other opinions as well
Maybe it's just me but I think 200 USD is too low for a good and versatile phone like HD2. Yes, there will always be better phone with better technology in the future but that doesn't devalue the HD2. People seem to think their phone has less value once there're new phones in the market that they release their phone for a very cheap price in order to get "some" money for the new one. In my opinion, the HD2 will still remain the best Winmo 6.5(.x) phone of all time (because there won't be any new WinMo6.5 phones released LOL). So unless you really need money to cover for your upgrade I'd suggest you keep it...
And yes I won't sell my beloved HD2 even if one day I decide to buy another OS phone. It will be with me until it dies on me
you actually have a valid point because when something happens to my phones i hate being reduced to a loner phone smh. i had that issue when i upgraded and sold my G1 to upgrade to hd2 only to have it out of stock when i needed a replacement
Samsunguy said:

But i'll go vote =)
not only within the dev community (although that appears to be picking up with todays donations in the dev thread). but even in the htcforums website there isnt a thread for the phone, at all! or was it just bad timing for release when verizon killed unlimited data? or do people REALLY want phablets and this is the last phone-sized phone we should expect with decent specs?
what gives?
I think the price might have something to do with it. I mean for $50 more you can get the GS3. I think some people still have the notion that bigger is better. What people don't realize is that the Dinc4g under the hood can roll with the big boys. The 4 inch screen is just the right size for me and the display is beautiful. Not full hd but still awesome. Yeah the Dinc4g is not getting the attention it should because it is not the latest and greatest imo.
Sent from my ADR6410LVW using xda premium
makes sense. The GS3 was never an option for me due to it being closer in dimensions to a paperback book than a phone. Hopefully the 4-4.3 inch form factor settles as the sweet spot, not this 4.8-5+ inch nonsense like the GS3 and Note.
a few things why that may be
1) phone is brand new
2) the perception that it doesnt have "amazing" specs (which is relative...screen size seems to be bigger - better)
3) the perception its a sidegrade/downgrade from the rezound
4) it was the first phone launched post data share plans (which hurt a lot sales/community wise...a bunch of potenital users got sgs3 instead to keep unlimited)
5) the lack of dev unlock atm
my response?
just give it time
the rezound had no unlock for awhile and had a seemingly dead community (a ton of people dumped it when it was stuck locked on gb when the gnex became available) and it turned up being huge (granted this wont be anywhere near that
the inc2 is a better comparison: no root/unlock for 2 months and it turned into a solid/smallish community that has been my favorite so far (for the most part)....many held off buying it at first cuz of some of the same reasons listed above, then when it got unlocked and could be had cheap it took off
so we ll see

Inc 4G will certainly be my next phone. Currently, and I own the inc2 & love our development community. Once s-off is achieved, I'm confident the dev's will be all over creating ROMS.

I picked mine up on day of release. I ignored all the nay-sayers about it being ho-um, and I'm glad I did. I have no use for the phablets - mostly because they don't fit nicely in my pocket. I was actually planning on keeping my OG Droid because the size was perfect and it's still a great phone (I miss it a little), but Verizon's new pricing plans forced me to get something new now to avoid losing my unlimited data plan.
Another thing that may have hurt this phone is the continual non-release by verizon, delaying it 2 or 3? months from when it was first announced.
It might help that it can now be had for about $60 on contract (Costco until August 5th).
also not to mention it has a processor of many other phones which means many roms may be portable. correct me if im wrong but i believe this to be true?

we should be able to port future versions of sense fairly easily, yes
I have a Rezound, but I just got this phone for my fiancée after she dropped her original Dinc into some chai tea latte mix at work (Starbucks). Obviously Verizon was no help due to it being water damage, and we wanted to keep unlimited data anyway, so I picked it up on eBay. I personally love it. She has smaller hands, so the size is a big factor. I'm surprised there's not more interest for that reason. Lots of people prefer smaller phones, and so many of the 4G phones are on the bulky side.
The only downside is only 8GB internal memory, and on top of that, it only accepts up to a 32GB card. But if you're not a media hound and you don't want bulk, it's a great choice.
It'll take a 64gig card, have 3 of them, all with 64gig cards installed.

Awesome, my mistake then. I was going off the Wikipedia article which says it can only take up to 32.
To me, HTC has accomplished something pretty great here considering that other manufacturers have to up the size for similar specs. It deserves more credit. I was going back and forth between this and the Rezound for a while, but the established dev community over there is what tipped the scale for me. I'm keeping my eyes over here for S-OFF or if HTC/Verizon ever get it together...

Most phones officially claim they can only take up to 32GB because it only officially supports 32GB microSDHC cards because that is the maximum capacity for the SD 2.0 specification, which is what most companies build for. However, most phones also accept the 64GB microSDXC cards because SDXC (3.0) is designed to be backwards compatible with SDHC, just at a slightly reduced speed compared to using it in an SDXC port. Also, most SDXC cards are formatted in exFAT, so they are unreadable by your phone, so you have to format them as FAT32 before use.

I too wondered about the rezound, things seemingly sucked for a while although it had/has "better" specs than the gnex. (I like the smaller size, preferred screen tech and "feel" of the device in my hand... but I say "better" b/c some of that is arguable) The biggest thing that hampered it was the locked down nature of the device. (unlike the gnex) Like others have said, not really sure if that is HTC or big V at fault, but looking at V's gs3 vs ATT's I would place the blame on them rather than HTC but who really knows. Neither will cop to it.
Anyway, I'm currently happy w/ my rez... Lots of good devs with solid rom choices. It just took a while to take off. Hoping this one takes off too, hoping more ppl buy the phone so HTC sees a market and gets back to building better phones for V.

I think most of the topics have been hammered out here but for me, I was due April for an upgrade and saw this thing was coming out, wanted it bad.
Strike one, was Verizon pulling their greedy bs and delaying, and delaying and delaying this release until conveniently after share plans came out, since I'm still on unlimited, this was a big decision for me to give up.
Strike two, is now this phone's bootloader is locked down, which limits the potential the devs can do and in the end the users functionality.
Strike three is there have been some beasts of phones in the last 12 months that a lot of good devs have comitted to, the rez, gnex, gs3, so it doesn't suprise me they are not jumping hurdles to get on this phone.
I still have my OGDinc, and it's been running fine on ICS and now they been working on JB which a few more bugs and I'm curious to check out. I do check the INC4g daily to see for new development and more importantly s-off, because this phone really has potential, the size is perfect for me, and under the hood, has the hardware out there to meet or beat most anything out there currently.
WELL, the SGS3, JUST GOT unlocked and root, what do ya think of that s**t.

Well ain't that some crap, I say there are gonna be some seriously happy peeps over on the GS3 boards. That's a hell of a phone and now with this news, it's gonna really rock. Just wish my hands were about two inches longer to tote that sucker around.
This looks like an interesting idea... too little too late?

I don't understand the concept of developer edition phones at all. They're never subsidized, so no one other than developers would even be interested, and the developers aren't interested because no one else has them. Samsung did that with the Verizon S3, and all the dev community did was give Samsung and Verizon a collective middle finger and crack the bootloader on the regular one.

pretty much - I don't know what the point really is either. Subsidize them through a carrier so you can have a warranty honored through the carrier and they'd be gold. However, it's interesting to see HTC focusing on "pleasing the developers" with hardware like this but not keeping up with support for "older" phones which us more important and truly "pleases the developers" at the same time.
well....i gotta buy mine full price anyway...mind as well get the developer one right?
I though verizon will not get HTC one?

I'm pretty sure that's still only in speculation stage, and that Verizon might turn around any day now and say they weren't going to get it after all.
Even if Verizon does get it, they'll probably gimp the specs and storage down, stick their Verizon branding all over it, and change the physical design just enough so that other HTC One accessories won't work with it.

Its officaly getting the One but they might just rename it to something with "Droid" in front of it.
The Dev edition is a cop out. It allows them to say look hackers, tinkerers, and general Android enthusiasts we offer an unlocked phone. That way when we say how come we have all these locked phones? They can simply point out the dev edition. That's all its for this way HTC can snuggle up nice and cozy with Verizon and its large network of users and reap profit but seem user friendly. Its a bunch of crap and I hope T-Mo gets better and more people buy into its system so that others need to compete with their structure for mobile. (A guy can dream right)
I like the One, first phone I've been excited about since the Rezound was announced.
