Hi, When i download apps to the device through my laptop, google play will show that the app is compatible with my "ORANGE Sony Xperia S". I didnt buy this mobile here in mauritius, instead, it was from France. But, here i use orange as my carrier! I don't think its because of that, its showing "Orange Xperia S". So to be updated regularly, I wanted to know with what "worldwide" firmware i can flash my phone. A firmware that won't go through carrier approval etc etc. I am currently on .73.
Thanks
Have a look here for the generic firmwares

I'm curious to know which regions it's available in too.
Also how I can access the playstation store if its not available in my region yet?
Some people are saying there's a new update out but I checked on my PC and there wasn't any, is this region specific too?
Because I'm from Canada and there's no release yet here for the Xperia S is Sony blocking any updates in this region?
Everything is on that thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1545270
It's about a month, since I bought my Xperia S, and I'm upset that phone didn't come with Sony Playstation app. I can't even find it on market, when I searched it on PC , market said " Not Available In Your Country " . Will It solve my problem if I install any other firmware?
You can just download the APK, Google it. Still needs a US PSN account though.
So you mean, I dont have because I live in wrong region, and I wont be able to use it as other services like PlayNow?

Pretty much.
I see the Ultra is not supported for this App. Disappointing considering we still can't download with Iplayer.......
Devices which can use Anywhere app
Sony Xperia L (C2105)
Sony Xperia SP (C5302/03/06)
Sony Xperia Z (C6602/03)
Sony Xperia Z1 (C6902/03/06/43)
Sony Xperia U (ST25)
It's Virgin's responsibility to update their app. Send them a mail and ask if they can update it.
The Ultra is missed by a lot of developers. I've had a good response rate from developers and they have all said that they acknowledge the issue and will get an update done.

They have only just added any Android support - took them ages. Use the "Contact Us" form on their website to request it to be added, that's what I've done.
If you are rooted there uses a module for xposed called play store fixes which tricks it into thinking the dpi of the phone is different.

I don't believe it's a DPI issue, it's model.
Answer from Virgin Media, not good news:
Thanks for your e-mail to Virgin Media about the availability of the
Sony Xperia Z Ultra on TV Anywhere.
We understand your concern.
Right now, we're sorry but it doesn't look like we've got any plans to
add Sony Xperia Z Ultra on TV Anywhere App. We're always working with
the providers to bring our customers even more choice on Virgin TV, so
keep your eyes peeled! And check out www.virginmedia.com for the latest

I don't see why there's a problem, there are many android devices with the same screen resolution and processor.
I would try one of the market helper apps, or xposed, to make Google Play think you're on a recognised device. I had to do this with previous phone, Note 2, to load the tesco clubcard TV app.

Doesn't the phone have to be rooted to use xposed? If so, then the app won't work anyway on rooted devices according to the comments in the store
A late reply but I have a One X which is also not supported. I used Device Spoofer to make my device appear as the HTC One. I was able to download and install the app from the market. In addition the app's record, remote control and program manager functions work perfectly however the ability to watch programs on the phone is blocked by a root checker.

Virgin say you can use those features of the app from any android phone.

You can only install the app on an approved device though (officially). The TVguide app has record functions but it doesn't have have network remote features.
Why do they do a root check? You can use the software on any PC, with whatever hacks you want installed, but there's some obsession with root on Android...
Hello, i still have not received 5.0 for C6802 z ultra, how can i know when i will receive it? how can i know the region? what may be the issue?
To know the region, open dialer and type "*#*#7378423#*#*”, then tap (I don't remember exactly, sorry) "Configuration" and then "Software info" and under "SW configuration" you will get number like xxxx-xxxx, this is your region number or just take a look under your phone's sd card flap, you will find a piece of paper there and your number will be on the back of that paper. Then open an app like XperiFirm, find your phone model and search for that number and check the updates, you have probably received it on computer but not via OTA
Regards
thanks man using code found my customization version, googled it showed pages with chinese kinda language, turned out to be hong kong region, contacted them they still have not released update, also russia still have not released update
I Just bought a Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503 LTE) brand new it is the Middle Eastern Version if I'm not mistaken (EN,AR,FA) anyway I wanted to update to Lollipop, decided to use PC Companion and chose the country as United States in the initial start up, and I updated it with no problem, But the problem that I have now is that I can't install some apps from Sony such as the "PlayStation Video" App which was formerly known as Video Unlimited, I had that app on KitKat but it's gone for good now and I can't install it, But what I'm asking is that the firmware currently on my phone is the US firmware?
If you type #*#7378423#*#* in your dial section, a service menu will pop up. Press service info and then software info. Check under active Customaziation. Mine is 1282-0508_R5C. Google it and look around what comes up. You can also download xperiafirm and check there.
There may me an easier way, but this is the only one I know.
When I searched, I found out it was the NDC firmware, witch is Nordic Combined
Sent from my Xperia Z2 somewhere in Norway
Thanks for the info man, I appreciate it after doing a bit of research I found out that I'm still running the Middle Eastern Firmware.
No trouble
