[Q] SGS2 Cannot get past Kernel Panic Upload Mode... bricked? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I just tried flashing Resurrection ROM 1.9 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854).
After using CWM to flash (using the Extended steps as listed at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26222702&postcount=32381) my phone doesn't even show a boot animation, it just goes straight to Kernel Panic Upload Mode.
I have downloaded a stock rom with the intention of simply flashing to stock and rerooting/reflashing another rom but ODIN cant even see my phone. I cant boot to recovery and I cant boot into download mode because Kernel Panic Upload Mode seems to be happening first.
Does anyone have any idea how to make this phone usable again?

No recovery no download mode .
Possible if old bootloaders in the rom that a USB recovery Jig will access download mode .
Otherwise its a JTAG repair that will be cheaper than a service centre repair .
jje

remove cable / charger
remove battery
reinsert battery
press home + vol down + power all at once.
kernel panic should come after this, unless you cant access download mode, in which you will see the samsung i9100 logo first and than the kernel panic

holding home + vol down + power while booting results in the exact same screen - i just can't access download mode :/
its odd that the screen says 'kernel panic UPLOAD mode' ... is there anything that can be done with any tool for upload mode?

(I remember someone has reported) keep your battery out atleast for 2-3 hours,
and try the Vol-Down+Home+Power - pressing sequence should be same..I think accidently you are pressing power button first....
if no hope order a Jig and try...

WOW! the phone went into download mode! I confirm it was disconnected for a few hours today (while I was out buying resistors lol). my attempt at a jig did nothing but following your advise to try download mode again did! currently flashing stock with odin, thanks so much.

[Q] Download Mode, But Volume Button is not responding

Hi guys,
I have rooted my gf's phone 2 months back using litening rom to gain root and CWM and subsequently flash it with CheckROM 4.
Phone is good for about a month or so until one fine day, when she restarts her phone, the phone goes into download mode.
Now, in the download mode, the button is not responding at all. either vol up or down. No respond. So i tried to go into recovery but the phone one, instead, that combination restarts the phone.
Now the phone cant get into recovery mode at all, by all means, tried CWM manager, tried Vol up + Power + home button
And when i go into download mode, the vol button gave me no respond, the vol button works perfectly during normal phone state.
Jigged it and vol button wont respond too. Tried factory reset the phone but all it did is reset the time and date.
Anybody can give me some pointer and or experiencing the same problem? My gf is upset, and if i cant solve it, i have to buy a new phone to her
No recovery mode and no download mode + USB jig does not work .
Requires JTag machine or Service Centre .

anyone can help?
ok, i tried and tried and finally able to go pass the donwload mode after jig my s2 by accidentally pressing the recovery mode combo in jig mode.
reset the binary counter to zero and send back to service centre
they suspected it as hardware failur but not too sure cos the vol button is working normally during phone state.
now waiting for them to repair it

[Q] Possible brick

Phone charged up overnight, and after half an hour of listening to music, I noticed the battery had fallen to around 30%. I then rebooted the phone, but it did not boot up. Cannot seem to enter any recovery/download mode.
Rooted running the Omega ROM. Haven't done any modifications to it for a good couple of weeks. Any chance of salvation?
maybe the battery gone bad? did u try with other battery?
Maybe, but I forgot to mention i somehow entered emergency recovery mode earlier (once) which would suggest its not? How do you enter that mode?
i've heard of that emergency recovery mode, but never actually seen it or know exactly howto trigger it. try vol up+vol down+home+power
Thanks that worked.
Now in 'emergency dload mode (arm9 mode)'
Where do I go from here?
so hows that recovery looks like? got any menu selection like normal recovery such as wipe data etc? if got, try to wipe data.
Nope not like a recovery mode. All it is is the Samsung logo with the 'emergency dload mode' text...
frankly we all here doesnt know exactly what the purpose of that emergency recovery mode.
try to connect your phone with odin and see its detected. maybe u can flash stock rom from it.
if it doesnt work either, u can try to force the device into normal download mode and flash with odin. first take off the battery, wait for around 5 seconds, hold the three button combination for download mode and while u still hold those three buttons, reinsert the battery. it should go into download mode and u can flash stock rom via odin.
Thanks for help. Will give it a go, and let you know the results....
If it treat it like a normal download mode, am I right in thinking I just follow the normal procedure for flashing via ODIN?
Ie, follow this tutorial: http://acetips.wordpress.com/2011/09/28/upgrade-ace-odin/

Does anyone knows where to buy a motherboard for gt n7000
Got drives and firmware downloaded. But ODIN won't recognise my phone? Any suggestions?
Odin won't flash phones that in Emergency download mode.
Have you tried normal download mode?
P.S: Emergency Dload mode = Vol Up + Vol Down + Menu + Power
Nomal dload mode: Vol Down + menu + power

Thanks for everyones help.
Managed to get it to the 'downloading' text, where I eventually managed to flash a stock ROM via ODIN, so I'm now unrooted.
Problem still remains where it won't boot up without being plugged into a power source, so taking it back tomorrow. I believe the battery somehow died and may have taken something else down with it...

Button combinations for i9100 are different to get into download and recovery, afaik. Search i9100 forums for proper button combinations, or install an i777 ROM on your i777. On i777 Vol+/Vol-/power is for recovery, not download mode.

You probably flashed I9100 secondary bootloader with one of the firmwares you flashed. That would have changed the button combination. You can try the following: Remove battery and leave it out. Hold down one or both of the volume buttons while plugging in the usb cable which is already attached to your windows pc. If this successfully boots the phone into download mode then you need to flash the I777 secondary bootloader, or the full stock firmware which includes the secondary bootloader using Odin. The files are available in the Download Repository. See the link in my signature.
If the above does not work, then you probably need to buy, borrow or build a USB jig, which will boot the phone into download mode, so that you can flash as above.

I assume you mean it would not go into download mode with the battery out? I wasn't sure if that would work.
You can try to change key mapping if you know what you are doing (I don't), but really just a couple of dollars for a usb jig should boot the phone to download mode. Seems to me that is the easiest and most straight forward way to proceed.

Bricked S3

I flashed a kernel on my S3 via recovery and then reboot my phone. It goes to a black screen now. When I pull the battery and power on holding volume down to go into recovery the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo keeps appearing and disappearing until I let go of the volume down key. Then it's stuck at the same black screen. When I try to put the phone in download mode to re-flash via odin it does the same thing. I'm pretty sure I'm fu*ked, but I just want to make sure there's not a way to fix this. Any ideas?

Don't worry..i have done worse things with my phone and yet to brick it..
Fist thing to go into recovery you hold vol up + power + home and not vol down..
Second thing what you will have to do is after the Odin flash..press and hold vol up+power+home..you will boot into the stock recovery..from here do a factory reset but mind you all the data on your internal sdcard will be lost when you do this..now reboot your phone..your phone will boot up properly now..assuming that you have flashed the firmware properly in Odin..

As zoot1 replied to you for download mode press vol down+home+power for a few seconds......for recovery vol up+home+power.........
And make very sure the kernel you flash is compatible with your phone and firmware!!!!!!!!!!!! The rest zoot1 explained in his reply
Good luck

Anyone have an idea what I've done.... Black screen with blue light. I can get to the recovery menu, clockwork is installed, but I can't flash a rom. The only way to get the phone to stay off is by removing the battery.
This is a Cspire L710. I've attempted to flash a Cspire_nandroid_stock zip, the phone will find it but can't open it. I missed a step somewhere I guess. I had it in download mode but made the mistake of trying the factory reset-which changed that.
I've also tried a couple of other roms with the same results.

Unless there is a way to get to download mode through the recovery menu, download mode is not an option.

Pretty weird...No download mode

Hi guys
I'm facing a problem i'm not very comfortable with...
Just bought for my wife a Galaxy S2 running Gingerbread 2.3.5.
I planned to root it and migrate him later on to latest Sammy on JB...
As per many tutos, to root the tel, you inject ( using Odin) the right CF_root from chainfire once the telephone is in the so called download mode
and here comes the problem...Vol- & Home & Pwr do nothing...It just boots the tel...No DL mode at all !!!
Are there GS2 around with no DL mode ? or is there a way to force this DL mode ?
( I've tried a suggestion which did not work..i.e remove batt , wait 30s, press vol-,pwr, home and reiensert batt without releasing the keys)
Any suggestion more than welcome

Tried a USB jig? They are intended to force DL mode. Never used one myself though. What you've already done would have been my first port of call. Also, have you tried recovery mode? (Vol up, Home, power). That way you can tell if its the vol. down button thats not recognising the keypress. On my tablet, that's the case, it takes a bit of poking/fiddling to get into recovery mode as my vol up button is sketchy.

You can try something.....turn off phone, and pull out-reinstert battery.Don't turn on yet!Now start pressing and holding the VOL DOWN button only. With phone turned off,and pressing the VOL DOWN key,put in charger.Keep holding the button, until you see Download mode.If that doesn't work, maybe VOL button is faulty. Also, try a Jig.It has to work
Yeah...the USB Jig was THE solution...and without yr suggestion I would'nt have had the idea to use it..and this for a good reason...My own GS2 does not react to USB jig ( the only solution to enter DL mode is the key combination) where my wife's GS2 enters DL mode ONLY with this Jig...
So one more time, thks to you all...

Ah this is ennoying...because it means that, now i'm on JB 4.1.2 this jig may not work properly...
Why do I bother ?
Simply because I have discoverd that this new GS2 has probably an H/W problem i.e The Vol Down key seems to be dead and that leads to another question Are the Vol keys simple H/W stuff, establishing contact or not or is it under software control ?
Browsing PhilZ recovery, I've seen a brief on screen message "Vol Down enabled"followed immediately by "Vol Down disabled" which I've not been able to reproduce..
So i'm in the blue....H/W or S/W problem
BTW, there may be a solution I had not thought to...
the power button , when hit, takes me to a 4 way reboot in which there is among the options, reboot in download
this may be the solution i'm after...and which I'll test as soon as my wife lets me approach her phone...lol
thks fr yr concern
I would be very careful when mucking around without the proper hardware functions. I would advise getting it fixed before continuing. If something goes wrong and you need to use the hardware combo to get into download mode to flash stock, you're stuffed. End of story. Messing with phones with no escape plan is a bad idea.

Mobile Odin will get you outta that button mess. You can always flash philz or siyah v6 with it.
You should get them fixed.
