Hi,
I have bought a Samsung i777 mobile phone from EEUU (Im from Spain), It has the LCD Broken so I replace it with my i9100 LCD that works (My old i9100 was water damage), everything works fine but.....
The home button of my i9100 LCD doesn't work!!, I have seen that original i777 screen not have a physical home button, so I think this issue could some thing that a ROM or similar can fix.
I need some help with this, If anyone knows how to make the button works I'll be very thankful.
Thanks!
PD: Sorry for my really bad english xD
Yer looking for a way to remap your button keys? There is an app for that. Or I could be misunderstanding what yer asking.

That could be a solution but first I wanted to know if there are some way for use the home button without remaping :S
Whats the name of the app??
So i9100 LCD in an i777.
i9100 has physical home key.
i777 has 4 capacitive buttons.
i9100 lcd is way different than i777 because of the physical key.
Thats really a long shot man, if at all possible.
Iim sure you can get the two capacitive keys on the i9100 screen working, but the physical key.......
Now everything works well but only the home button
If I flash a i9100 ICS room will work??

Did the i9100 LCD have the physical button attached?
If so then basically you have an i777 mobo, in an i9100.
Flashing an i9100 ROM, will actually screw up some things, like the mic will be reversed with the noise canceling one. we have a workaround for this.
But basically you need a ported i9100 ROM, minus the button remaping.
You could do that yourself, somewhere around these forums is a guide/post for info on remaping the keys.
Yes it has the home button attached
So...
I need to use a i9100 room ported to i777, and work around the button remaping to get the home button working?
Thanks!

exactly. undo the remaping of the key's, should be the only thing you have to undo.
Some help doing the remapping? I have searched but not found nothing clear :S

Yea its something that has gotten lost since we no longer have to use it everyday to flash i9100 ROM's like we did in the past.
keep searching around, and I'll do the same.
ill give u a file with the remapping but what ive been thinking about is doesnt the home button need a special connection in the original phone that isnt available in the i777? like some connection to the hardware?
im not an expert but for the button remapping i can help u.
ur only solution in my opinion would be to flash an i9100 rom and flash one of our kernels. and maybe it will work. otherwise theres nothing in button remapping for the physical buttons. as this is all in the i9100 mappings:
key 158 BACK WAKE
key 139 MENU WAKE
key 115 VOLUME_UP WAKE
key 114 VOLUME_DOWN WAKE
key 102 HOME WAKE
key 107 ENDCALL
key 105 DPAD_LEFT
key 106 DPAD_RIGHT
key 103 DPAD_UP
key 108 DPAD_DOWN
key 232 DPAD_CENTER
key 116 POWER WAKE
key 212 CAMERA WAKE
Thanks for help everyone !
Now I'll try flashing i9100 rom, I have notice that there is a conector in the middle frame from i9100 that i777 doesnt have but I get succes changing also the middle frame from my old i9100 to i777, now I have notice that I can get the download mode by pressing vol. down + home (physical) button + Power, so this mean that home button is recognized and working right??
Some advice with the room to install?? we are closer to get it! Thanks guys!

Not necessarily on this phone holding the home button isn't necessary.

Any idea?,
I have looking for some special connection from i9100 motherboard to i777 and I not find anyone, so what's not working?
Nice Topic, i like it, by this we can alternate so many LCDs with Junk Varients
Anyhow, in my opinion why should not test HOME Key button physically? Because it was Water Damaged, Might be possible HOME key also damaged
Batter to check and post results
Good Luck!
Note: - Because SGS2 already flashed by i9100 Official ROM so i should be work well.

Hello guys!
My Defy didn't arrive yet, so i want you to help me test this thing.
I like hardware answer-call buttons but Defy doesn't have them so i decided to write a mod which will answer ringing call if you long-press any volume buttons.
Short-press should still work fine and silence ringer. Is that good idea?
I've modified android.policy.jar from 2.34 deodexed. Attached file will work only on 2.34 deodexed! Please don't ask how to install it; i dunno. If someone find this working, i'll be glad if you prepare update zip.
Note that it's my first time ever hacking Android and i'm totally not sure if it works.
So, does it work? Maybe idea is stupid or i posted in wrong section?
I think it's a good idea, because when wearing gloves, we can't answer!
would be nice to do the same for the camera. We could be able to take underwater pictures this way!
Okay my Defy came and so i tested and this mod DOES work nicely.
Although phone has quite small volume rocker and could be hard to press. But still better in cold winter
I can do 2.2 mod as well, not sure for which firmware. Also, where can i get compiled dexopt-wrapper to make odexed version

The volume button is too small so I would rather use the screen.

I think this is great idea. I'm still wating my dev, but i've already have thinged about same thing - attach line up/down on long lower volume button and camera on valume up [not long].
I just returned my HTC One S under buyer's remorse for a number of reasons. One of them was how much screen I lost for apps that weren't updated for ICS on-screen menu button. I know this isn't HTC's fault, but it was a real bummer. I am thinking Samsung made a much better choice with the GS3 by going against Google's intent and including the menu button. Surprised this hasn't been discussed more. Am I missing something?
We have always had the menu button so dont need to discuss it .SGS1 2 3

Yaa I feel the same, that's smthing I hate about vanilla ICS, the onscreen buttons.
Btw how was one s. I had it in my mind before getting s3.

There is a mod in HTC one x section where you can remap the keys.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Well HTCs new firmware which is due any moment maybe next week resolves this by allowing users to select what the recent apps button does. No need for any mods on this base.
I've got it running on the HOX and works fine so far. You can replace it to a menu function and long press for recent apps.
Anyways, I miss the home button which is good for waking the phone up.
Personally, I could go either way. I don't mind the home button; actually I think it could be a plus, considering if the OS were to ever freeze, you still have the button. Being an engineer, I can value you that. What would disgusting is the home button and the on screen buttons; either or, not both.
hello all. I apologize for the stupid question but I do not know whether to send my galaxy for repair because my middle button works but comparing it with three other galaxy is different.
my question is: what it looks like the middle button is pressed?
1-soft with difficulty returning to its initial state,
2-soft,
3- hard,
4- very hard.
. And when you reach the button without pressing it, seems to move? Sorry for the many questions but I do not know if mine is damaged.
Sorry used google translate

I have 2 Galaxy S3 and both buttons are ,,2-soft''
They have a very very little movement which you cannot really see it.

It's kind of a normal wear&tear thing. When the device is brand new, the button sounds like a button, with that clacking sound. When you use it often (Like any normal XDA user would) the clacking sound goes away, it softens, and the feedback isn't as noticeable.
In my case, it's probably 2-3, because my device isn't that old (Got it about six to eight months ago..)
Hope I could help!

Folks,
I am a proud owner of the One. Although sexy, the IR/Lock button is crazy to reach. If we wear a case, forget it! It's very out of the way. I've come up with a solution on my own, though it costed some money. But it is only a temporary fix / enhancement. I am currently using wave control to unlock the phone's screen. Unfortunately it relies on the sensor, so it does take time to register most movements. Very unhandy in the dark.
How are you guys going about with unlocking the phone?
Custom kernel with sweep to wake or volume buttons to wake
Physically open up the phone
Pry off the current physical lock button
Solder on a new button and place that button wherever you want! That's what I did but the button doesn't work so I can't unlock the phone.

A really easy way to do this is to install android revolution from mike. Link is up top...paste button is stubborn...
Ha! Won't be welding any time soon.
I found out that CleanRom 2.0 actually has wake lock through volume buttons. Some one mentioned above about it being in a kernel. I did a dirty flash, maybe that's why it did not work properly in the first place. Cleared it up!
Folks without any custom roms will have the same issue, though. Please continue on the discussion about any alternative solutions!

Awesome
So, as the title says hardware problem and there are few things I want to know about. Have anyone got the problem about power button position on the inside is lower than the volume buttons? My bro and me got the same XU and never have problem except this one. My Xperia U has the lowest power button than my brother. If that's my phone's factory fault, can I repair it by disassemble it and settling the buttons back? I got no problem but I have to press hard for power button and there are no pressable home button to wake my device up. My problem is normal or not? Please answer me dear bros. Thanks.

If you have a guarantee, I'd recommend you take it to the store since its a factory problem. If you don't have a guarantee, there's some apps which let you use the volume buttons to turn the screen on. I don't know the names since I've never used one but I've seen it in here so you can use the search bar to look for them

They told me to wait for changing my handset dear bro. I'm waiting. Everything's went so bad. They told me that it wouldn't gets so wrong. But it's definitely sure that I have very stupid power button. You're right bro. I should have brought my brother handset, too. Now I'm in anxiety because it's only one week old. Now, I press so hard the power button and it annoys me. Anyway, I thank you so much for helping me out. Now I'll have to wait for answer.
