I have Eclipse 1.1 (old I know) it was great when it first came out and I flashed it. But now I need something new bc its not working as good, and I know theres better versions and other ROMs that are possibly better.
Any suggestions on which ROM to flash and why?
Depends on what you want. If you want a fully functional ROM I'd check out the latest edition of Eclipse.
Cyanogenmod 7.2 rc1 has a small amount of bugs, but is for the most part fully functional. HDMI mirroring doesn't work and that's the one and only downside to me. I still use CM7 as a "daily driver" so to speak. Lots of customization and with the hacks/mods found in this forum I get excellent signal strength, connection speeds and battery life. Wifi still sleeps when the screen's off, but with the v3 build.prop mashup it reconnects on waking within seconds every single time.
Cyanogenmod 9 alpha 3 is somewhat buggy as it's in its early alpha stages. There's no camera yet, but DZK already said there will be a fix for alpha 4. Same with aces miui. It's real slick, being on ics. I like it, but won't stay until there's a working camera and more stability. When that happens this rom will be simply amazing. Overall it's pretty sweet and at the very least, worth checking out/playing around with.....
MIUI4 will be awesome too once the bugs are sorted and fixed. As stated before- the next release will also have a working camera. MIUI is probably one of my favorites if not my favorite but right now its way too buggy for me to use. More so than cm9. Couldn't deal with the bugs Ace is hard at work bringing us more updates and when he finally gets this where he wants it MIUI will more than likely replace cm7 as my daily rom. It's a great ROM in general but I couldn't stay on miui for more than like an hour, personally.
Definitely go into each roms topic and check out the screenshots and videos if there are any. Also look for the working features and known bugs/issues. Honestly I say give them ALL a try and see what best suits you. I only really posted about the newer ones. If I remember correctly molten isn't being updated anymore after 2.3 and I keep forgetting liberty even exists, lol.......

I started with Eclipse 1.3 and then went to 2.1 running scripts and about everything else with it. Then when CM9 alpha came out, I had to try it. CM9 alpha works great for me. I needed my camera, so I flashed back to CM7. When the beta version of CM9 rolls around, that's gonna be the ticket!
IMHO- CM7
I can't believe how smooth and FAST my phone is with CM7. The camera works great, very little to no lag at all with anything I have found. There's all kinds of customizations for it. I'm not running any scripts, only CM7 and SD Increase from the market. My phone is fun again and I'm not hesitant to show somebody up with a whyphone like I was before. Try it and see.
Also check out this thread for sure!!

Are you pretty good with computers, tech, etc.? If you want a fast update, just flash CM7 since it is on the same kernel as the version of Eclipse you are on. If you try to update to the latest Eclipse, you have to go through the process of using the SBF to get to stock, updating to 2.3.5 then flash the new version. Its up to you though. CM7 and Eclipse are the most stable ROMs we have at the moment until some bugs get worked out in CM9.
Thanks everyone. I am on Eclipse 2.2.1 as of right now (w/speedy script 7 and other tweaks/apps). Ill probably try CM7 in the future since its already on my sdcard.

Just remember you need to be on 2.3.4 before flashing CM7.
Man I don't know what it is but.....
I used to run Eclipse 2.1 and scripted to the 23498457890345th power maxed out turnaround wing dinger squared. I thought it was as good as it could get. But when I went to CM7, I giggled at what I "thought" I had. Hands down the way to go, until CM9
I would use cm7. Just because its stable and has the best UI in my option and has pretty good performance. or you could wait for cm9 to get more stable with a working camera and better performance.
Liberty 3
Just Rooted and Flashed for the first time.
I went with Eclipse 2.2.1 - because the HDMI support was kind of a deal breaker for me. (Netflix, FPSE, SnesEX, etc. on a big screen!) But I was wondering why none of you mentioned Liberty 3? I haven't tried anything other than Eclipse 2.2.1 so I don't have an educated opinion to share, but other than CM7 it seemed like Liberty 3 and Eclipse were the two other "stable" ROMs in the DEV section.
Is Liberty "bad" or do you guys just not use it, and why?
Also, I flashed what I *thought* was the latest build of Eclipse 2.2.1 (from the official thread) but there are only 5 pull down toggles on my notification panel - I thought there were supposed to be 7? Did I miss something?

I haven't been on eclipse in a while so I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but I thought there was an option in settings to set those.
I can't say for sure why nobody mentioned liberty though, it might be because it doesn't offer much compared to eclipse. Also, it was supported for maybe 2 months max while I'm pretty sure nitro is still pushing out updates for the x2(somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

I totally agree with this guy. It all depends on what you want out of your phone. If you can sacrifice the extra cool doohickies I say CM9 all the way cause alpha 4 just came out and it's pretty sweet, working camera too.

I loved cm7 as my first and only rom but my 3g sucks, dolphin force closes, camera is buggy etc I'm going to reflash before jumping to eclipse which I've heard is most stable ...
I loved cm7 but the broken orientation sensor in the kernel killed it for me. I now run eclipse 2.2.1. It was a bugger to get installed. Having to wipe cache at a different point than instructions indicate. And also I have a little touch-screen delay.

I know this has been going around for a bit now with the memory leak on most Jelly Bean roms, as many other users yes I'm getting it to, but at this right moment just left the phone now, been playing on it now and then for past hour or so and its stopped at between 300MB/200MB free ram, and is stable.. will play with phone a little longer and leave it over night to see any change...
Just curious really, is this normal and that my device isn't that special at all lol...
And not bother carrying on and flash back to original rom and just wait for a solution or just wait even longer for official OTA..
The issue only appears on Rom's based on the official source code (e.g. Cyanogenmod and AOKP), not the ones based on leaked builds by Samsung. So it all depends on which Rom you have installed.
Additionally, even if you are prone to the issue, it depends on how you use the device to result in how fast it will cause significant issues and require a reboot.

Not had chance to try the leaked version, tried every single way, read all forums and still no way to get it working or I would... Never had trouble with past roms on other phones, but of course new phones new challenges...Always up for one...
Any way I was using the cyanogenmod 10, love everything about the rom, was fine all day when i left house at 12pm and by time i got home it was working just fine by time i got home 5 hours later.. And was on it testing all new features and testing my apps, as well as setting them up for daily use.. it was only when connect to wifi it started to do it (maybe nothing, usually is but its always a long shot, never was good at programming or coding but love to help if i can, if only if its useless or little info lol)
But thanks anyways
Afaik the memory leak is triggered by notification bar and/or lockscreen so it really does not depend on what you use but how you use it.
Some hours is usually fine, I had to reboot it every other day which is annoying but not a show-stopper.
I'm running CM7.2 with the Glitch 13.1 kernel, and I've got almost everything working perfectly now. Speakerphone was an issue at first, but editing 90_callvol file in etc/init.d to MIC_GAIN_SPEAKER=10 fixed that.
The only problem I have now is that my wifi stops getting data periodically. To clarify, the wifi is still connected to the router, still has 4 or 5 bars, but there is no data. The only way to fix it is to toggle airplane mode on/off (sometimes twice). I've seen suggestions to not put wifi to sleep, but I run my business from my phone and need every bit of battery I can get, and I feel like having wifi on when the screen is off will seriously drain the battery.
Anybody know of a fix for this? It's the last thing keeping me from saying this is 100 percent functional!
Thanks!!!

I would highly recommend going to one of the jelly bean builds. Cm7 and glitch have both been out of support for quite a while. Aokp milestone 1 or a CM10 nightly build is where I would start. Make sure you flash THS build 2 first. People say you don't have to on jellybean roms but I get a boot loop if I don't. Look for droidstyles fascinate guide, I think it's in the development forum and has everything you need to know. You'll be amazed at how fast and smooth jelly bean is coming from cm7

Thanks! I'll have to check it out. I really love the lock screen gestures in CM7 though--is that present in either of these? Are both AOKP M1 and CM10 fully functional? I'm really not looking to mess with my phone much--I just want a fully functional phone that is as efficient with battery and speedy as cm7, but ideally has everything working well (i.e. wifi, data, gps, bluetooth, phone, speakerphone quality). I've heard that all of the MTD based builds have issues with the speakerphone...
Thanks!
Both aokp and cm have custom lock screen targets but not gestures. I ran aokp for a while with the devil kernel and it was super fast and stable... But it always seemed like right after it was running perfect I had a sleep of death or random reboot. I know der teurfe (sp?) works his ass off on the kernel and it is awesome, I'm not ripping on him at all but I have a feeling it might have had something to do with my random stability issues.
That said, aokp has more features, TONS of features and pretty stabile and fast. It was easily faster than cm7.1 or. 2. In fact both are faster and smoother than any gingerbread based rom I've used. Cm10 has lots of features too but not quite as many. I just flashed cm10 today and I'm gonna stay on the stock kernel. So far it seems just as fast as aokp and maybe a tad more polished feel. Some say cm10 is more stabile but I guess I'm about to find out haha. Both are good choices but if stability is a priority then I would stay on the kernel that comes with it.
Everything you mention works, speakerphone echo is there on aokp but there are workarounds to lessen it . I haven't tried speakerphone on cm10 yet
Personally I think cm7.1 ran better that 7.2, I had nothing but random issues on 7.2...I now use blackbean 6 with the devil kernel and runs great I use the phone mainly for my 5 year old to play games take pictures ect...but I tried the 2 posted above n this seems most stable and best battery life so far

Well my problem is that I haven't had any problems, lol. Let me make that a little more clear, I've been running my MoPho on Jokers CM9 7.0.0 for MONTHS since the day it came out. And it was so stable I never bothered looking to update any more after that. Truth is before Jokers CM9 I hadn't flashed any ROMs on this phone before, I went straight from stock to I think version 3.8 or so. And I've been a loyal Joker fan ever since. But after I quit updating I lost track of what issues have been fixed, and what issues have arisen. So I'm really at a lost for what to do, I don't know what has been happening on the scene, and unfortunatley, I'm in need of update because I have started getting bigger and bigger issues with this release. Crazy stuff really, I don't think anyone else are having these issues, and I'm sure it's because I've stayed on this release for so long, in fact I've been on this same install since June I believe.
Anywho, I'm trying to figure out what I should do from here. I really need the update because my phone is starting to become a little unusable. And I'm starting to have to do workarounds for workarounds. So is CM10 the way to go? Or is there any other ROMs worth looking into, and if I do go with CM10, what would be the best update process to go from 7.0.0 to latest without doing a fresh install if possible. If not what Jelly Bean ROM is the most stable right now? Also, is there any GB ROM that is up to par with JB?
TL;DR stuck on bugged legacy ROM, need to find the latest and greatest with the least amount of issues.
Also! If any devs happen to pop over this thread (if I were lucky enough), and they want some reports of what issues I'm running into with my install I'd be more than willing to tell you about them, screenshots, reproducing them, etc. They're really interesting to say the least. I've got one that causes thumbnails in my gallery to be replaced by images I've never even taken or seen anywhere else. And they also tend to be pretty risque!
This CM10 rom by Th3Bill is my daily driver for about a month now. To install this rom you'll have to do a fresh install, you can't upgrade it over CM9. There are some minor issues, as is the case with every aftermarket rom.
Do it. Th3Bill's CM10 is as good as any right now. CM9 for the Photon didn't have a chance to fully mature before CM10 came along.

I'm on my phone right now, so searching isn't really pheasible for me. Would you mind telling me what the major issues are? I'm assuming all the.old driver issues still exist.
Cm10 's issues include but are not limited to : video cam borked (use video cam illusion)
Usb tether borked
And possible slight lag on screen transitions.
However my new latest and greatest daily driver is Th3Bill's Liquid Smooth.
With the same issues as cm10.
Go to Th3Bill.com and check out all his great work!

Hi,
I find the posted threads confusing. I'm looking to flash ICS on my dad's Atrix 4G as he needs it for an app he considers crucial . Unlike me, he isn't very interested in experimenting with any exciting ROMs; he needs his phone to function: on and off, sleep, text, call, bluetooth, browser, camera, maybe music, without issue.
Fingerprint reader is not critical.
Is there a ROM that is quite stable in all these areas? Posts seem to say yes, but they also seem to say that stable ICS/JB is not possible because of kernel issues.
What's the bottom line?? Please advise me.
Stable ICS? No such thing. Been said countless times already. I don't see what is so confusing about that. Despite enthusiastic feedback from people, no ICS/JB is actually stable enough for day-to-day usage. That's why pretty much all of them get quite frequent updates.
Does the app in question not work on GB?

It doesn't, no. Unless there's a way to have ICS runtime environment or st but that sounds impossible
And the confusion stems from claims like "..stable enough for a daily rom!" in comments I keep finding in specific ICS ROM threads. I'm sure that's the enthusiasm you're talking about lol.
I've been using epinter's jb 4.1.2 for months. video cam & fingerprint not working. everything else, including photo-cam, works. and let me tell my experience and you decide:
in normal use, the battery can last 2 days. and seldomly, kernel seems to wake the device, causing battery drain. problem ends after a reboot.
I call it a stable enough daily rom. but it'll be your decision.

As the dev team threads have said, the ICS/JB kernel alpha release is immenint. It may be an alpha, but it may give you the results you're looking for if combo'd with an ICS or higher ROM. Current ROMs are stable to a point without the dev'd kernel. While i recommend waiting for a beta to be released, you're more than welcome to test out the alpha once its released while keeping the usual advisory warnings in mind. If you don't want to wait for the alpha, feel free to try one of the ICS ROMs, but be warned, camera issues and battery life issues are major areas to watch out for. These issues may be fixed by the dev'd kernel.
Personally i've been using Atrics v2.0 and epinter's CM 10.1. Both are good.

The video cam, fingerprint, & force-wake are literally the only issues? Or just the most frequent ones? Bc that'd be awesome but if e.g. the phone part sometimes wont open or the text messaging force closes or similar issues exist then it may be a dealbreaker for him.

Same question re epinters; additionally, re the kernel - would that simply reduce the problems associated with the ICS/JB roms or introduce its own set of issues?
I appreciate your time/ effort.

I don't have any experience with Epinter's CM10, but from what i just read, comparing it to 10.1, it has the same issues. I haven't had any issues with messaging via ROM messaging app or via Go SMS. The kernel is supposed to solve the problems. However, battery life seems to still be an issue from what I've been reading. They disabled the camera for testing on the battery issue at the moment. At the moment, CM9, 10, and 10.1 all are running on variations of the GB kernel. While it was tweaked enough to make each ROM stable, the full potential won't be reached until the new kernel is implemented
The CM ROMs, in my opinion, are stable enough for daily use. Its up to you which ROM you want to use. As far as the kernel goes, I'll be trying out the alpha once its released, but it would be wiser to wait on the beta.

This is true, just remember to make a nandroid backup (webtop optional) prior to testing out any non stock ROM.
With my setup, i've got backups of 2.3.6's 141 and 145, 4.0.4, and 4.2.1, and if i'm doing a straight restore from one to another, roughly 20-30 mins until i'm back up and running.
