ICS....... - Motorola Droid RAZR

So, I've been running the ICS leak from April on my original RAZR since the day it came out and I absolutely love it. I have also been reading all of the speculative posts about the" official" release to be available soon. I have 2 questions/concerns that I would love to hear some opinions.
1. What will the official release give me that the leak doesn't?
2. How do I back up all of my apps and progress on my games if I do decide to update?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yeah they "should" but it won't be like this. But i think that the ICS update will be mostly bug free.
And if they don't open up the bootloader they will partially fail by losing some customers..

Lol 84 is extremely nice. Better than 75 . Moto is really working on a full nice release. I can only guess 204 is better. The ota will have less bugs than 8r does and I haven't encountered any issues in 2 weeks of use. Ota will be very nice without a doubt

It will be bug free, or close. Leaked betas point this way. It may have bugs but will be really impressive SO. Probably much better andstable than actual gb.
Btw. I think you guys are too smart to believe in a 100% bug free system. Think you got it

You guys do realize that Moto names their updates with the system version you are coming from and not the version you will be going to.
Root can be retained on the en.EU update using Supercurio's OTA Rootkeeper app, I would wager the same is true of the VZW favoured RAZR. Risky business without a stock ROM to revert back to, mind you.

I find it odd that the Verizon site lists the instructions and "changelog" for the update, yet doesn't list the actual file for the upgrade. And I'm not sure why some people (myself included) haven't received the OTA either.
As for "improved camera features", I wonder what they changed - the shots I'm getting are slightly bluish, and foggy with the flash.

Ha, I was contemplating saying that instead. But to stay serious, this is pretty awesome. I might hold off rooting if the date gets announced soon. I think it was perfect time to get rid of my incredible since it's not in the list.
I heard "later this year" for the Rezound on a recent Verizon twitter post.... I'm not holding my breath. And even this link says "sometime this year". That's pretty vague if you ask me.

Why is it up to Verizon anyway? I don't need to get windows updates from my ISP. I don't get why things have to be so different on cell phones. (Other than greed and control, which leads back to greed.)

I know, I bet if they were to release ICS tomorrow with Sense 4.0 and people would be like "I'm sooo pissed that they didn't give it to us yesterday! I mean, you know they had it ready, why didn't they just release it?".
People just need to relax already, have some patience. Also, I really doubt Verizon had a huge executive meeting/decision for the order in which devices were listed. Plus, with the Rom options available to you for it in the last couple of days - you have you're option RIGHT NOW.

I'm glad I updated from the X2 to the Rezound. I was almost certain the X2 wouldn't get it. It wasn't a very popular phone, it has half the RAM as the Droid Incredible 2 as well I think.
The list is in chronological order, from oldest phone to newest, by manufacturer. No conspiracy against the Rezound.

I'm pretty sure the INC2 and the Thunderbolt have 768MB of RAM and the X2 has 512.

From what I've seen and heard, being rooted won't prevent you from receiving this OTA, but you will lose root access unless you backup su and temp-unroot with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper or the like.

Unlikely to be soon, seeing as there are no known soak tests for ICS on the XT910 yet. Knowing Moto's treatment of their GSM users, we probably won't get an ICS OTA until the MAXX is out over here... in May.

Most likely scenario is that the ICS work was originally being carried out for the GSM RAZR, then someone in management intervened and made the DROID RAZR a priority due to Moto's contract with Verizon. I imagine once the ICS update goes live and there are no showstoppers, they'll continue to QA test the update internally for about a month before pushing it out as a soak test for a week, before finally pushing the release version.

How do I do that? the only options I have are download which I assume would download the software and install right away, the second option is 'later' which dismisses the notification for 24 hours and 'cancel' to skip this upgrade.
The file size is only about 96mb so im pretty sure its not ICS. Im assuming its something relatively minor.

Real for sure, and now we have pics! Haha. Anyways the only issues I've had with my RAZR thus far is on certain low end games (Angry Birds, Bejeweled 2 etc) the phone will hang for almost 5 seconds at a time randomly. But runs fine and ultra smooth with anything 3D and Graphics demanding (ShadowGun). Strange to say the least, as well kinda annoying but livable.

But you might dont search, because there is 2 or 3 stock rom deodexed flashable through CWM by matt or frasertag, and i'm working on flashable asia.

How on earth does the ability to flash from the SD dictate what is and isn't a ROM? You couldn't flash Samsung stock builds from SD until Chainfire built Mobile Odin, does that mean those weren't ROMs before the app was released?
You can update a fastboot-flashed stock build using an OTA zip from the SD card if you really want to. Most Android device manufacturers do things differently, this just happens to be Moto's way.

Well, I haven't had any experience with unlockable device before this, so I haven't seen any advantage being so... (except maybe ability to go back to GB)
But look at BootMenu... and MIUI...
Both gave me -almost- completely different experience with my razr.

Custom kernels really are the heart of development, unfortunately - different modules for new features, different CPU governors for better battery life & performance, optimisations and more. It's one of those things that needs to be experienced to appreciate.
Was key to my initial experiences with Android as I came to it from the HD2, which was by nature a custom job. Experimented with Motorola devices for six months, back with Samsung now - although I miss the build materials, the development is a breath of fresh air.
Hope Moto make a Nexus device, it's their only shot at regaining the attention of the development community that they lost when they locked down everything after the original Droid.

Not locked completely. Xoom and I believe the Atrix are unlocked. But I agree, unlocked bootloaders on current devices would be great.

This is the answer to the OP
Well, I haven't had any experience with unlockable device before this, so I haven't seen any advantage being so... (except maybe ability to go back to GB)
But look at BootMenu... and MIUI...
Both gave me -almost- completely different experience with my razr.
I'm eager to see what unlocked BL or -so called- kexec would bring, yes, but I'm not missing them at all right now.

Changin a kernel could improve the phone experience drastically. A better kernel coul improve the battery life AND the performance, The first time i changed the kernel on my nexus one i was astonished, it was overclocked and it halved my consumption (i took the half of the usual % during the same usage) and the phone was smoother too.
You can't know the difference until you feel them ^^
I know nothing about programming, cooking roms etc. for sure with unlocked bootloader things would have been easier, but take a look at moto defy dev section. Froyo kernel and quarx and epsylon ported months ago cm9 and now with hwa with no official libs and drivers. And the first jb cm10 is already out from quarx. And all that with locked bootloader. The razr cdma roms as i read are very nice. So the problem is with our gms razr. Its all about devs.

Xoom is pure google device and Moto cannot lock it, I own one and its one of the best tablets out there but regarding the Atrix someone release "sbf" with unlocked bootloader by mistake (I think from Motorola) and now they have unlocked BL.
There is slightly hope for us to get the BL unlocked if Google starts to change things around in Motorola...and imo they need to do it fast.

We already got modules... and governors.

And our CDMA friends have CM9/AOKP ports... (which were patchable in GB era).
But, yeah.. Me too know nothing about bootloader, kernel, etc.
