Hello guys,
I know that using wifi tethering app by google code, you can get all list of connected users from dnsmasq.leases file.
In 2.3.x mobiles we have option to do tethering
Settings>wireless and network>Tethering and Portable hostspot
my Question is , where is it's dnsmasq.leases file placed if any or is there any other way to access its parameters or get the list of connected users using wifi tethering.
Best Regards

The 2.3.3 update provides the following that are fully functional:
USB Tethering - allows you to attach a single device via USB to allow it to access the Internet through your X10's WiFi or 3G data connection
Portable WiFi Hotspot - allows other WiFi-enabled devices to attach to your X10 via WiFi to allow them to access the Internet through your X10's 3G data connection
Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable Hotspot to get to and set up those features.
For USB tethering, you'll need either a WiFi or 3G data connection available. For the portable WiFi hotspot, you need a 3G data connection available and the WiFi hardware must be on as well (since your X10 will become a WiFi router).
They work quite well, and they easily replace what we used to need 3rd-party apps for in the past.

I know that I have looked into this before and that Android Gingerbread and ICS did not have the ability to connect to a wireless Ad-Hoc network with shared internet connection. I read some places that this was supposed to be included in JB, but I am still unable to see any wireless Ad-Hoc networks when I create one using Win7.
I just work in a remote location with little to no 3g and definitely no 4g....it would be awesome if I could share the wired connection on my laptop. I know that there are 3rd party "virtual router" applications that can accomplish this, but it is a corporate laptop and I cannot install anything on it. Thanks!
Hi all,
I know the thread's title may sound ridiculous, but it's really not.
I'm looking for a way to share my mobile wifi connection (I'm currently using the latest HTC one device) via wifi.
Meaning, I'm connected to a wifi network from my Android device, and I want to share this connection with other laptop/pad/mobile devices via wifi.
So my device acts both as wifi client to a hot-spot infra, and also like a hotspot infra for other devices.
In the past, I did it successfully using my iphone and MyWi app.
I've spent quite some time goggling for a solution, but non of the threads/articles I've read really address this problem, as most of them refer to sharing the mobile data connection rather than the wifi connection.
this is the closest thread I've found (from 2010) and it refers to wifi sharing via USB and not wifi.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276723
the reason I'm looking for such a way is that I have a iPass certificate on my mobile, which enables me to connect freely to iPass wifi hotspots around the world (popular at airports for example) and I want to use this connection with my laptop or my friends mobile devices.
can anyone shed some light on this subject?
Is it there an app that allows an android with wifi to become a wifi harddrive?
I am aware of wifi file transfer but I understand that in that case I have to connect to a wireless router and my ip will be over the net that will allow other devices to access my storage through it
However what I want to know is whether there's an app that allows to enable file sharing without the use of internet where it enables the host device to broadcast it self using wifi(without connecting to internet) and other devices, without connecting to internet, can access this device storage directly.
Is this possible and is there an app for it?
Thanks
When using a wifi file explorer, people can only access your device if they are connected to your network, and they know the port you have chosen....

but that seems to require the host device connecting to the internet, which is not what I'm looking for.
What I am basically looking for is the possibility to transfer files across devices via wireless but without connecting to the internet.
Similar to bluethoot where transfer is direct and it doesn't go through a router/network etc.
So
Host device turns on its wireless
Client device can connect to the host device wireless(like hotspot but directly ,not through internet) and access files or transfer back and forth.
This may seem like a dumb question but... is there a way or an app to essentially turn on WiFi hotspot feature so that I can make an ad-hoc LAN but NOT let all the devices connected access the internet?
Example: I enable WiFi hotspot on my phone. I still have a cellular data connection so I can browse the web, stream music, etc. but any other device that connect to my phone's hotspot does NOT get my data connection, they are just on the LAN the built in android hotspot creates.
I don't want to let other users "run up" my data usage but I want the other users when they connect to my hotspot to be all on one network.
I have a bootloader unlocked Motorola Moto X (original, 2013) and rooted and I use Tasker. Maybe after I enable the hotspot feature I could modify some IP tables via a Tasker app to "enable/disable" internet blocking.
Or maybe there's an app out there for this? I suppose another alternative would be disable mobile data and then enable hotspot (if that's even allowed) but the pitfall there is then my phone doesn't have internet either.
Thanks,
Mike
