Problem is with the kernel... i am also facing it..most of the samsung pieces have this problem afaik.

I'm also having this issue... I'm from Latin America and the problem seems to affect "some" devices. First I've installed stock ddkq8 and then a custom rom based on the same stock. Wifi disconnect and reconnect after like 1second. It's like 3minutes WiFi ON and then it turns off but reconnects after 1 or 2 secs. Can i flash a working kernel with this stock? Change the section of this thread if it's. Necessary.

Wrong section ...!!
And yes this is a problem with cfroot kernel.

Thanks shaan! I was guessing a "wrong section" hehe. Can you tell me if i re flash a known working kernel (like the one I'm using right now) will face the same problems? Thanks!

Well its not a device problem. It relates to the kernel. The current versions of cfroot that we have are old. When we get a new cfroot kernel with updated libs the problem will be solved.

(Q) Are GingerBread kernels totally safe? (eMMC rev 0x19/MMC_CAP_ERASE ISSUE on ICS )

I've been spending like the entire day reading about the eMMC rev.0x19 issue combined with Kernels calling for MMC_CAP_ERASE when wiping/deleting big files/etc, and all the subsequent problems on ICS roms for the I9100/N7000 and other Samsung phones.
All I've read is that ICS added the options to the kernels to call for the deadly MMC_CAP_ERASE which is now being "slightly patched" on kernels and so on. But noone talked about a single 'superbrick' on GingerBread roms, even if all the SGS2/Notes/etc are using the bugged eMMC rev. 0x19 which could brick the phone asap it's deadly flag was called.
Does that mean that everything in GingerBread is completely safe? Even using temporary CWMs (including both CWM4 and touch CWM6) to wipe/recover nandroids/flash things that require wiping? There's no risk at all to do such things on GB, unlike in ICS, which are TOTALLY WARNED when using a lot of roms?
Thank everyone in advance!
Yes. All GB kernels are safe. The problem started with ICS.

Thanks for the fast reply!
So GB is safe, ¡thanks for confirming!.
Btw, just one question, what are the latest news about this? I've readed so much info from like May to today that I lost the actual situation. All the new Samsung ICS FW is "safe" already or not yet?
Thanks!
All ICS up to 4.0.3 are safe.

Wow, so I completely missed the point. So it's an open problem.. and 4.0.4 or superiors WILL have the problem unless noted otherwise?
Damn .

I don't think ALL stock 4.0.4 kernels are unsafe. A kernel needs to have MMC_CAP_ERASE disabled for it to be safe. Most custom kernels are safe such as siyah, cm, fluxi, etc.

You can use a 4.0.4 ROM with a custom kernel though. It's not like you have no choice but to skip that update and wait for Jellybean.

Nice! So the problem is only with samsung stock kernels 4.0.4 only!
Thank you both a lot! :good:

Just make a backup of ur Curent setup and then give it a try and see
But all i have to say for now is, Since u have a stable setup for now why disturb it
Since some time's the below will happen
Curiosity Kill's the Cat
Just make a backup of your jb rom and then flash cm7. When you think that you are done with cm7, just restore the backup file!
Sorry i have seen hardbrick from doing this on other cellphones. So i want some real informacion about it. Not just give it a try ahaha. But thanks guys. Its for just one boot ahaj

Not part of this forum but I've been searching around for answers here
Going from 4.2.2 to CM7 2.3.6 leaves the phone in a bootloop- I've tried on my Galaxy S, going from the I9000 build of Slim Bean to CM7.2, possibly because of the data partition changes between ICS+ and GB, but I'm not quite sure why
So if you want to install CM7, first flash in official Gingerbread through Odin, root it, then flash CM7
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk HD
No, it doesn't have different partition neither gets in a bootloop.

Do i9100 ROMS work with i9100p?

Thinking about replacing my RAZR I with the s2 due to much better ROM support. Want to get one with the NFC (i9100p) but will all i9100 ROMs work with it? Or cant I use them/ I will lose NFC if I do/
Sent from my XT890 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes, but no NFC with I9100 roms 'as is'; there may be mods that enable it, not 100% sure on that - do a search & see what you dig up on that score.

Well i'm not sure about this. As i don't have this device.
But you can check by flashing roms on your phone.
No, you will not brick your phone if you flash I9100 roms on an I9100P. It is the same device except for NFC capabilities, which as I've already mentioned, and as the OP already knew, won't work straight off the bat with I9100 roms (and may not work at all).
And I'd expect RC's to know this stuff (if you're guessing, don't post in the first place).
Sorry for that mate. I edited my post. Thanks for this .
