Then try - ADW, WP7Android, Holo, MIUI, 360, etc...
Type "Launcher" in search bar and you will get dozens of them.

I was the same way. I found this place cause I was googling for answers as to why my battery life sucked so much. Now my phone is rooted and so far i've flashed 2 different kernels and 3 different ROMS. It's like an addiction now. LOL
Stick around. Trust me, after some reading you'll see the light.
Official updates can suck it. Why wait? Have you even tried using aokp or something similar? Never thought my phone could be this smooth and enjoyable to use. Try it out

Agreed! Came here to just root my phone to shut off some system apps and free up some ram.
I thought official gb 2.3.6 was good enough for me. Then after reading countless tutorials I decided i'd try a few custom ROMS. I'm running SHOstock2 V3 and it's just pure sex!
Try ADW Launcher. Kinda similar in style to APEX
Yea, apex is pretty nice. Seems very customizable but most importantly, i can back up all my setting, but im sure other launchers can do that too.

Oops meant to press quote, but you could try using the stock HC launcher. I like that the best out of all the ones I've tried

I think he meant the stock honeycomb launcher, not the stock htc launcher. The stock honeycomb launcher does not have wasted space, the other two I'm not sure about.
Ah yeah I saw a "t" in there that wasn't there lol. Yeah I saw the team syndicate one and I tried it out, only problem is it was kinda designed for gb and froyo so it has a virtual notification bar that can't be disabled... However that was the free version it might be able to be disabled on the paid I dunno. Anywhere on XDA I could just grab the apk for the actual stock launcher and install it?

GO Launcher EX is good. Has lots of features that most Launchers don't
But I always miss the glorious sense widgets that you cannot get any where else.
Honestly I've warmed up to the sense launcher a bit. Its basic and bare but the cool animations and awesome sense widgets make it worth using. As far as real estate, Go launcher HD had the issue too, just seems to be a honeycomb thing so whatever really. Think I'll just stick with Sense for now!
yea go launcher HD (beta) is a nice alternative to the stock or htc launchers for sure. just started using it today and really like the folder support
it's not on the market u'll have to search around for it

I really dont see that big of a difference between the two.
Honestly, apex. It has features in the free version that you have to pay for in Nova. I like the app drawer setting to hide apps from the drawer. It seemed smoother for me too. I put apex, nova, trebuche and miui launchers through the paces and I found apex to be the best. If miui launcher wasn't so buggy, I'd use that but yea. I use apex on miui and cm9

Its too bad that the X2 is not on a nightly CM9 build schedule like the Nook Color. The CM9 trebuche launcher is getting better everyday and is almost on par with Apex now. Soon it will exceed in features, but we are stuck on an old build of CM9.
Can we not just grab the trebuchet launcher apk from a nightly and give it a try?

Hi, I just upgraded to ICS and I noticed that many of the new changes in ICS are not available or look different on GalaxyS2. Is this because of Touchwiz?
I also tried swiping along to get to the "widget" area, to no avail.
Also, I tried pinning a calender widget to one of my home screens, but it doesn't have the updated Google widget. It just has the Agenda widget. It has the "contacts" widget that looks like the updated ICS google version, but no cal.
What's up with this?
I'm new to Android so my apologies if these are no brainer questions.
Thanks!
Are you sure it actually updated? Go into Settings/About Phone and under "Android Version" what does it say? If it doesn't say 4.x.x then it didn't actually do the upgrade. Otherwise...IDK. lol

Lol...well i could say Google touchwiz, but not sure you would. The reason its different is because Samsung puts their own launcher on their phone that customized the look and feel of the phone and creates their vision of what your phone should look like. In short most around here agrees it sucks. If you want a more traditional look either download a new launcher like nova or start learning how to instal custom rooms.

Hey guys, I just got my S3 (I9300) 2 weeks ago and I love it. Very fast. But the thing that concerns me is that sometimes when I'm scrolling through home screens in touchwiz i see micro stutters in the transitions (like semi-lag but not fully lag, hopefully you guys know what I mean).
Is this normal?
I'm a little worried..
I am on the LF2 firmware. Completely stock, haven't rooted or installed any custom ROMS.
Is it the redraw? Theres a fix for that
Or the wallpaper scrolling? Fix for that too

Never noticed any stutter on the home screen scrolling I'm using stock LFB rom with speedmod kernel.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
From my experience, every Android phone I have ever owned has had some degree of micro stuttering, and it has always bugged me. It's also interesting, because some people claim not to be able to perceive any stuttering, while others do, so it seems to be a very subjective matter.
I'm very happy to say, however, that the experimental builds of Jelly Bean have finally stopped 95% of this issue for me. I'm hopeful that once Samsung releases official Jelly Bean binaries we will see the remaining 5% gone too, but either way, I believe it is already smoother than any iOS device out there, which has generally been my baseline.
Edit: Changing launchers does help, but only on the home screen and app draw.
If you are using a live wallpaper try to change it as some LW are laggy.
Also try to check the services that are running in your background through setting-application manager. Maybe you have too many background processes
And lastly wait for jellybean update as this will make the UI interface super smooth cause by project butter of Google

It's no JUST TW. There is still some stuttering, even running CM9. Yes, the amount of stuttering is reduced, but the root cause is still at the heart of Android (pre JB anyway).

Agreed, but the launcher is such a small aspect of the phone that it usually just annoyed me more, as it proved the hardware was capable, but that Android itself was slow!
Anyway, "project butter" has totally changed the experience, and will be a big draw card to iPhone users who were hesitant to switch in the past
Thank you all for your help!!

Here you are

Put together by yours truly based off zone23's red build. Based off 3.14.605.10.
I've been running this mod on NeoMAX for several weeks, and I absolutely love it. It runs infinitely smoother than that Apex Launcher garbage. It's a helluva lot faster, too.
Also, I've tried the TouchWiz theme, for Apex, and it absolutely DOES NOT look, nor function the same as the actual TouchWiz launcher.
I suggest installing both and comparing and contrasting. It's the only way to make an educated decision on the matter.

Sorry 'bout that, Snuzzo!
Apparently, you beat me to it. I must've been typing my responses into Tapatalk while you posted your link to your ROM.
The point is: Its like taking a Corvette engine and putting it into a Fiero. Sure, it's fast but it's still a Fiero and it is still ugly. You may substitute vehicle of your choice for Fiero if you like.

Precisely. It's all a matter of opinion. I happen to think TouchWiz is downright sexy. Coupled with it being the fastest launcher I've encountered, and I'm in love.
Use the touchwiz launcher on CM9 with the touchwiz 5 CM9 theme engine theme.

It actually isn't junk on the GS3. It looks pretty nice (not as good as stock jellybean) & it is fast and extremely useful.

I totally agree! i played with TouchWiz today and loved it! Apex is good dont get me wrong, but the GS3 with it, is just down right eye candy....
