Have looked and looked, cant find anything. I am hoping the collective genius of XDA can tell me how to do this please?
Thanks

Can you please clarify more your question sir?
If you mean changing the channel of your current Access Point (aka modem), all you need to do is to go to your modem settings and change the channel.
You can search for the manual of your modem, and normally it should guide you how to do that.
I don't know even why this question is here, i don't see any relation to Android devices.
Good luck anyway
I use my Galaxy S2 as a wifi hotspot, I have no other source of broadband.
As far as I can discover it will only transmit on channel 6. Problem is my nearest neighbour has just installed a router that is also on channel 6 and my wifi is now having dropouts. I would like to try different channels to see if things improve.

This is why it is posted here

Same issue here. Can find 20+ wifi networks in my apartment, but mine is missing.
I suppose this doesn't have nothing to do with developing...Wrong section...Even if I'm not a moderator is pretty annoying to see "there's 1 new topic!" when this is not related with Hero development...
oh i had that issue back when i first got my hero.
Do you have your wifi locked?
Cuz to finally get my hero to find my wifi I had to turn off the security and once it found my wifi i put the security back on and edited the settings on my hero to reflect that.
After multiple flashing of different ROMS i have never had this issue again.
It has something to do with your wifi radio channel.
Try Wifi Analyzer, which will help you map all wifi's around you and help you choose an other radio channel for your router. Scan and choose a channel that's not used.

Thats exactly what i've done. I'm using channel 8, as the only one among the networks i can find using WifiAnalyzer, so im pretty sure that thats not the issue.
why check in the villain thread or ask there or check villain.co.uk

that's very odd, try switching to 1, 6 or 11 then. Choose the one with least AP's on.
Still the same issue i have an apple airport.
First with 1.5 he finds now with the new roms he wants finde my Wifi
Hi,
I'm posting my question here, since i can't reply on the original thread.
Currently i'm running Elelinux-7.1-Hero-v3.6 (custom) on my HTC Hero.
First off all, great job and thank you so much for keeping the hero alive!!
Tried a lot of different roms and this one leaves the others far behind!
I do however have a small problem with wifi. The device is not "finding" my home network. It does find other networks in the area, and i have been able to log in on a friends network. But it doesnt find this particular one. Other devices (laptops, desktops) are able to connect to it, so i dont think that the issue lies with the network.
Previously i was running elelinux FROYO_2.2.1_Final_Android_Stock (special edition) and did not have this problem.
Is there anyone with the same/a similar problem? Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this?
Dont know if it matters, its an assus N-router.
Thank you
Have you tried to click "Add a wifi network" in the (empty) list of available networks to define SSID and security setting manually?
Thanks for the reply.
Yes i tried that allready, it still tells me it is not in range.
Dont know if it helps the wireless is 2.4 and 5 GHz
Just put Elelinux-7.1-Hero-v3.6 custom v2 on my phone and still have the same problem?
Any guesses?
Check if u can detect other wifi networks wit ur fone if not try a different rom, since u want something as stable as else's try herodeck...
If it does detect other wifi networks, check if ur home wifi is hidden or reset it...

I have the same ROM and I don't have any problems with wi-fi. Maybe there is an issue with the 802.11n compatibility. Are you able to force the AP into b/g mode?
Same Problem
i had the same problem so adjusted router to use B/G mode only and works fine now
maybe your WiFi is on one of the odd japanes channels 52 or so, make sure your choose something between channel1 and 11 in the 2,4Ghz Band
Thank you for all the replies!!
It got fixed!!
Didnt have to change from N to b/g
But tried Taknil's solution and changed channel from auto to somewhere between 1 and 11 in the 2.4 Ghz band (router went up to 13)
Works like a charm!!
Thank you all!
It happened to me to.
I've to give up the mod for now.
As we all know, some people are having issues with wi-fi being unpredictable and buggy on the TP. One method that seems to work more often than not is changing the wireless channel on your router. This is not a hard thing to do, but some people are having issue with accessing their routers.
This guide is for those of you on a Windows machine. Mac users, I have no idea what to tell you.
To start, we need to figure out what your IP address is. The quickest way to do this is to press Windows Key + R (Windows Key is beside left-alt). In the run box, type cmd and press enter. You should see a black box now with a blinking cursor. In this box, type ipconfig /all and press enter. Look for "Default Gateway" note this address down. Mine is 192.168.2.1 so we'll use this as the example.
Open up a new browser window or tab, and type in that IP address exactly as you noted it. You'll get a login notice, and this will differ depending on what router you have. Go to this website to get your default username and password: http://www.routerpasswords.com/.
Once you have access to your router, again, all of this will differ depending on the make and model of your router, but you need to look for a wireless tab. Once there, you need to look for something that says "Channel" or sometimes "SSID and Channel" (SSID is the name of your wireless)
After you have found the channel tab, use it to select a new channel. I've read that anything betwixt 1 through 4 works the best.
This is a vague walk-through, so please ask questions and I'll be sure to help.
:EDIT: Here's a good reference site for routers - http://www.portforward.com/
Great stuff bro. For sure to be added to and heavily viewed.
Thank you sah.
I will continue to add to it. I'm trying to find a site I came across years ago, that actually had screenshots of all the popular routers GUI's...but not finding it.

Did you try DD-WRT or Tomatoe? Another great source is WiFiPlanet.com
PS added to XRON Q&A as well

I wasn't going to use DD-WRT or Tomato because if someone knows how to install that, they won't need this how-to
It's the reason I didn't get screenshots of my router running DD-WRT
http://www.portforward.com has got load of info on routers including screenshots. It's a bit OTT for the enquiries here, but will have some useful info on how to get into a router setup.

Alternative to Changing Router Settings
I've posted this on the board a few times. You may find it to be a useful alternative to adjusting your router settings, since you can't change all the routers you encounter. This solution can be done just from your settings menu:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461627
WEP works best with both CM7 and CM9 for me, no drop off wifi. Set up a virtual access point in ddwrt
just for TP with WEP . Tried WAP and TP dropping connection frequently.
I don't have a touchpad yet, but the best channel would be the one hard coded on the device. As a general rule you should always set the channel of all your devices the same. I wouldn't know how to find the default channel though on this device.

Actually now that im thinking about it.here is a fast way to figure out the default channel on the HP. Download wifi analyzer on your android device. Then on your tablet turn on wireless tether. On the phone scan for wireless devices and see what channel it reads.

just as a note...
installed cm9 0.5.
gapps 20111230.
cwm, moboot 035.
no problems with wifi.
at all.
have restarted several times...have gone back and forth from webos, as well.
i wonder what the incidence of wifi issues is with a 5.0ghz vs a 2.4ghz signal?
not sure that it matters...but, it seems everything affects everything else.
so, worth a look?
Hi there
Okay i have a galaxy note 10.1. Im fairly new to it. I am having problems browsing the web with it. I can connect to my home wifi but i cannot browse the web.
I have looked everywhere for help and i still cant seem to solve the problem. I can browse the internet at a friend's house but just not my home router.
I have checked all the settings, restarted my note and my router and i dont know what else to do.
Please give some suggestions
You are in the wrong forum. Try here.
You will also need to provide MUCH more information. Are you running a custom ROM on your device? Or is it stock? Is there anything else you have done to it? Did it ever work at home?
I can tell you straight away that if you post the same type of question in the correct forum, you will likely be ignored. My advice would be to provide as much information about your tablet and what you've done to it recently as possible. Good luck!
I understand that there were some changes to android after ICS which adds some difficulty to successfully changing your Wi-Fi Region Encoding (to enable the use of channels 12 and 13), but I was thinking that someone had to have figured out a solution by now.
I have an HTC One S, rooted, S-off, with a SuperCID (11111), and am running a 4.4 Beanstalk ROM port. I recently moved to a new apartment where the wifi situation is very congested (with neighbors using some seriously powerful routers given their signal strength).
Before ICS I was using channel 13 for fun as I had flashed DD-WRT on an old Linksys router. But eventually, because it wasn't necessary, I kept the wifi region on US and just used channel 11.
Though now, because of the congestion in this building, I really would like to go back and use channel 13. Having done so before, it is really frustrating not being able to. My router is set to 13, and I tried changing the region code (there is an option in the ROM) to both Europe and Japan/Russia but channels 12 and 13 are not scanned in either case . I also used sqlite editor and successfully changed the region in Settings Storage (but I hear this is now an obsolete method). In either case, the region is successfully changed but I am never able to scan channel 12 or 13.
I looked at the data on my sim card and it shows an MMC of 310 which I would expect since my cell provider is TMOUS. I read someplace that this is how my available wifi channels are being determined. Can anyone verify this?
More importantly, does anyone know how to configure my phone so I can use channels 12/13? It is really difficult to use wifi even 4 short yards from my router because the signal of -35dbm competes with a router signals on virtually every channel which is similar in strength.
Thanks!

All CM versions >9 have this problem
But it is easy to solve:
In the file \etc\wifi\nvram.txt you can change the line ccode=ALL to ccode=EU.
After a reboot you can use the high channels
If you flash another ROM to have to repeat this.

I've tried a lot of apps but nothing worked!
Changing the nvram.txt worked! Thanks a lot ???
Does this setting only exist on CM? As I have a stock rooted Nexus 9 running android version 5.1.1 and this file does not exist:
\etc\wifi\nvram.txt
