Help the Transformer Pad 300's Bootloader be unlocked! - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hello Prime users!
As you may or may not know we (The Asus Transformer Pad 300) are your younger brother of a tablet. Also as you may or may not know, older brothers (yourselves) do one of two things to younger brothers.
They either:
A: Beat them up, like you already do to us in the benchmarks
Or
B: Protect them and help them grow up.
Well we over in the Transformer Pad 300 forums are ready to do some growing up, we are ready to begin to root and ROM our tablet but there is a bully of sorts in our way. Our bootloader remains locked despite the almost a month of time going by since our release. We have created a petition on change.org to try and get Asus and/or Nvdia to unlock the Pad 300's bootloader, we have just passed 400 signers and it would be greatly appreciated if any ANY of you could go and sign it. If we were able to convince the manufacturer to unlock the boot loader than both of our communities could work together in harmony due to our super similar specs.
So please Prime users, please help the transformer pad, don't let it be locked up like a toddler forever. Help us grow up.
Thank you very much

You've got my sig. Asus would have gained so much cred in the Android community had they sold the 300 already unlocked. Although the Prime and I'm sure the 300 are awesome devices out of the box, I couldn't imagine not having the ability to flash ROMs and kernels, backup, etc, with my Prime.. that's why I signed. Good luck and I'm sure it'll happen eventually, it's just a matter of time.

Yes it has its own forum, but there are a lot more people who own the prime because the 300 has only been out for a month or so. More people = potentially more signs.

Asus now have a bootloader unlock tool (as per the Prime) in the download section of the TF300 product page (select Android as the OS, Utilities). TW, WW and US skus.

[Q] TF201 Developer Interest

Hello fellow Prime enthusiasts
So I'm scheduled to receive my Prime today from UPS and I'm currently wondering about the android development that will go on for it.
I understand that the prime is still so new and I don't expect anything substantial yet since the prime is still hard to even get your hands on. Although I'm wondering if any developers have plans to work on the Prime? A quick reply would be great!
Thank you.
I want to but ive only did anything with Samsung phones...so if i ever get mines i will mess wit it

Bring CyanogenMod 9 to Transformer Prime- NEED YOUR HELP!!

I want CyanogenMod 9 for The Transformer Prime as much as anyone. CM9 is ICS based, and would be an *awesome* addition to the Prime.
EDIT: Boot unlocker released - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510737
By getting this ball rolling NOW, we can up the interest inside CyanogenMod's team for the Prime.
To help along the effort, I created a Transformer Prime request thread on the CyanogenMod forums. I also donated $10 to the CyanogenMod team, and made it aware on the CyanogenMod forums that I did to help further the cause.
If you'd like to help out:
1) register on CyanogenMod's forum, if you aren't a member already.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?app=core&module=global&section=register
IF YOU'RE BROKE: skip step 2)
2)Donate to CyanogenMod while logged in. It's easy, and pick whatever donation level you want
(even $5 helps!!)
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/donate/
(donating while logged in gives you a special "donator" tag next to your user name).
3) post to the CyanogenMod Transformer Prime thread showing your interest.
If you donated, please post that you did so and post the last 4 of your Paypal/Google Transaction ID as proof. That is key - being able to tie a request to a particular donation will help the cause.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/40525-asus-transformer-prime/
With enough donations/posts to the CyanogenMod Transformer Prime thread we may get an official port sooner than later!!!

Exactly, for all we know they are going to be making it as soon as the "unlocker" is released by Asus.
I would pay like 300 bucks to get some kind of fast from on the Prime. ICS made it better but there's still random lags for me every few minutes. I just hope ASUS unlocks the dam bootloader soon.

That's my bet. ASUS faced a lot of resistance for it's locked bootloader, and finally announced it would release an unlocker....
Without it we are definitely S.O.L. But it's likely they will...

donating without an unlocked boot loader available is of no use..since the boot loader is locked down that means no custom roms...and even if CM gets a prime right now the boot loader is not only locked but 128 bit encrypted... once asus releases the boot loader unlock tool then we can start to think about donating to get them a device.

personally, i would stick with custom roms based off the ASUS roms for this device.. cm is much better on phones, but not much better on tablets in my expirience
and we need an unlocked BL first

ASUS has promised a boot unlocker will be released relatively soon. How long is "soon" remains to be determined
By donating/posting interest on their forum, we're signaling our interest. Of course they can't actually *do* anything til ASUS releases an unlocker.... but by starting *now* with an interest/donation campaign, we will have a bigger presence than just starting off then.

I'm happy to donate to custom ROMS once they start popping up - one can never have too many good customization options. However, I would still *love* to see CM9 come to the Prime.

Donating right now isn't useless. From what I can tell, Primes are still hard to come buy. If the CM team doesn't have the money to buy one right now, they won't even if they do happen to see one in stock. If we do donate now, they'll have the money and can grab one as soon as they find one. I'd rather have them grab one earlier and just sit on it, than have them struggling to find one after Asus unlocks the bootloader.

Maybe it's just me, but that could be because there wasn't a CM8. So if a tablet has ran CM in the past, it was most likely CM7 which wasn't made for tablets. With CM9, it will be an OS that is made for tablets, so it should be better. That's just my guess though.
I would gladly donate, but I don't see ASUS actually unlocking the device anytime soon. They simply made a statement about it to stop the social media attack.
I'll gladly support CM9, since supporting Transformer Prime will be a lot of work, especially if keyboard and custom functions of IPS+ and performance modes are concerned.
And if they will state that they will commit to Transformer Prime, I'll gladly support them. But without the unlocker and considering the complications of Transformer Prime, I would first have to believe it would ever actually happen. Tegra 3 is also an obstacle.
This thread is more relevant once ASUS actually gives us an unlocker, but of course CM9 is worth supporting even if they won't support TF201 fully featured.

You make a very valid point:
CM7 was Gingerbread - an OS made for phones
Honeycomb was closed source, so there was no CM8
ICS is open source, so CM9 is the natural progression. ICS is for tablets and phones
CM9 will naturally be better than CM7, simply because ICS is optimized from the ground up by Google for the tablet experience. Gingerbread was tweaked into working on a tablet.

I am passionately betting they will release a boot unlocker program soon. I know it's counter-intuitive, but here's why:
1)They said they would, publicly. They know who they were dealing with, for the most part. They know every word they release will be scrutinized. They know they'll be slammed again if they don't release it soon - say in the next few months. If it goes farther than say March at the latest, the pitchforks and torches will start appearing again...
2) Gary Key - ASUS must be having a change of heart somewhere deep inside it's corporate monolith. How often do you see an official ASUS Technical Marketing Manager stroll into a forum like this and ask for help!?
To come to XDA asking for help, and *NOT* release a boot unlocker after publicly declaring they would would be a very, very foolish PR move. Even though ASUS has made plenty of mistakes over the Prime, they're not that short sighted. XDA is the lion's den that spawned the social media attack - I doubt they'd set foot inside if they didn't intend to release a boot unlocker.

I definitely agree with you there, and think the plethora of issues that Gary Key is trying to address trump writing a boot unlocker program any day.
It's probably "every engineer on deck" in ASUS' Prime dept right now, trying to resolve these issues.
Nonetheless - If you're up for donating I think it's safe to say sooner's always better than later-
Like you said yourself, CM9 can use all the help it can get

HI!! I know the Asus Tf300 is fairly new, but has anyone with one of these tablets been able to root, unlock, and run all the roms that the TF200 (Transformer Prime) normally? I'm starting to jump overboard on the prime due to its wi-fi issues :/ I would greatly appreciate any input about this question!!

I've been trying to root using a variety of previous methods that worked on the other transformer pads but no dice yet. Hopefully someone will crack it soon.
I don't see other ROMs working on this without being ported. I can say the wifi on this tablet is great though.

dude, the only reason I want to get that thing over my Asus Transformer Prime (currently own and still have a 30 day warranty at Best Buy) is because of the Wi-fi. If I can't get good wi-fi on this new one I'm getting, Im going to have to jump ship for that one!! I just don't want to go throught the hassle of bugging Asus to unlock that tablet also, and allow that tablet to access NVFlash -__- that would be one HUGE headache :/
Rooted?
I'm assuming at this point you've figured how to root the TF300 correct? I'm rooted and running AOKP but I don't believe the PRIME mods and apps will work on this. PM if you stillhave questions.

Dangit ASUS! Motorola beat you to it again.

Looks like the XOOM gets the update before we do. Again.
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/07/2...oid-4-1-1-build-jro03h-here-is-the-changelog/
I'm kinda surprised the Verizon version doesn't get it first. I mean people paid a ****load of money for the 3G/4G version they should get JB before or at the same time as the wi-fi Xoom. Of course this is probably due to it being on a carrier and having restrictions.
Either way, it took me awhile to realize that since I had unlocked my bootloader I wasn't going to get any updates from Asus. This is fine since the dev community will put a fully functional JB ROM out before Asus will have it for the Prime I bet (if it hasn't already happened).
The xoom will always get updates first, along with the nexus 7.
It was a google reference device and essentially the first nexus tablet in a way.
Now if Acer or Lenovo or someone else get it before Asus, then dangit asus.
They didnt beat anyone..lol all they did was announce their device will recieve it. just like aSus did.
P.s. whose to say jb on prime isn't already in testing?
isnt the Xoom the nexus device for honeycomb? afaik it is a google experience device so it will likely get it first.

I agree with you.
Now that he has a Nexus 7 he will be all over the thread, like he uses to be
on the Prime. Lecturing, tutoring, reprimanding and lauding the Prime against all evidences.
I returned my Prime for three reasons : weakness of the wi-fi, no GPS (even if I am more than "totally satisfied" with the Galaxy Nexus), and an horrible Customer Service.
I strongly intended to buy the Infinity. But the unfixed i/o issue and the built quality (and QC) are a deterrent to me no matter what Demanderin says about Asus.
Apparently Nexus 7 has some QC problems. Not mine. I am ordering a second one this week. It will be my lab to take advantage of the works of our dedicated devs in this Forum. It is also a vote of confidence for Google products, with no bloatware ....so far and quick update releases.
I will buy the Nexus 10, just hoping it will be manufactured by Google-Motorola and not by Asus.
Google will learn from its first experience in the tablet market.
The ranters and whiners as much as the extreme lauders are blind or ignorant ( sorry for the redundancy for an ignorant is blind which is not true for a blind who can be of a superior intelligence.
See you, most of you I mean, on the Nexus 7 thread.
Good luck and good ride on your Prime and Infinity.
Not sure what the fuss is about with Moto Xoom receiving JB...
Moto Xoom is technically a "nexus" device & Google specifically said Moto Xoom will receive JB update by mid-July at Google I/O
Now... Samsung is rumored to update Samsung Galaxy SIII (SII & Galaxy Note to follow soon after) with Jellybean by Aug/Sept...
When you factor in carrier restriction, Touchwiz skin.. and etc... & if Samsung does pull it off before Asus (especially for WIFI only tablet without any carrier restriction).... well, you can start a fuss...
Edit: Speaking of which..Padfone even updated to Android 4.0.4

And that was only for a day or two (official release version)...
Along with Moto Xoom getting ICS "beta" test for few users before ICS started to roll out for Asus Transformer Prime...
Didn't the JB "soak test" for the Xoom get delayed anyway?

The prime is dead

Just one year after, the Prime development is dead. Two roms have been updated a month ago and much appreciated work on them. But that's about it. What was once the tablet of the future, Asus made it a flop, A $500 flop at that. How poor, I'll never buy another Asus tablet or PC again. I had mine since day one and have no problems with. I wish everyone could say that.
Thank you for your contribution. We definitely needed another one of these threads.
Long live the Prime!

This is not true. lilstevie and tux_mind are VERY close to perfecting an Ubuntu dual boot. Think about it, Volume Up to boot Android; Volume Down to boot Ubuntu. That would be the coolest thing in the history of things. This is what I have been waiting for since 2008. Sooo... STFU.
Prime is dead
Mine truly is----at ASUS RMA facility for the third time since purchase
first 2 times wif-bluetooth issue in shop for 1.5 months
this time green camera
Truly a 500$ 650 if you count the dock peice of c***
There are very few primes around in my country so i don't care if its dead, i have a special device and its working perfectly.
But i think my next tablet (i hope the prime works for a long time) will be one with a digitizer for pens. Like the galaxy note 10.1. In my situation i prefer that over a keyboard.
Long live the prime.
I've had mine since day one. Never had reason to complain about it at all. Two friends have bought them after seeing mine. Still use it every day. I wish I had two.

I think that the Development is very slow mostly because around a 50% of users have their Bootloader locked, so lots of people couldn't use other roms, kernels or mods (and of course if a user wants to start a develop and has it's Prime locked, simply he can't).
I bought the tf201 a month ago because I didn't know anything about Bootloader, I thought that I could flash a kernel for OC or something similar. I try to unlock and I couldn't, and now I'm happy with it, because my tf201 died a week ago. When it returns from the RMA, I'll try to sell it. That's all, and this is the last ASUS tablet I'll buy.

I find it interesting as to how much people are influenced by the opinions and experiences of others. In one breath you say you'll never buy another Asus tablet again and in the next you say you've had your Prime for over a year and have had no problems with it.

Let me help you out a little, jordache. I'm quite happy with my Prime. I've not had problems with it. I have several Wireless APs at my home, so it's saturated with signal. As a result, I've not had problems with the wifi. I've chosen not to Root or Unlock my Prime, so I've not had the headaches there that others have had. As the features go (HDMI, Micro-SD, SD, USB, additional battery in keyboard dock), the Prime is top notch. I'd still take it over an iPad any day of the week.
Having said all of that, Asus's post-sale hardware support is terrible. So terrible that I probably won't buy another Asus product. I managed to lose a couple of rubber feet on the dock. When I inquired about getting some replacement feet, Asus wanted me to do an RMA on the dock. I'm not impressed.

The original post in this thread is the equivalent to someone standing up in the middle of a conference on economics and yelling "I LIKE BANANAS".
Sure, they have every right to like bananas, but it isn't helpful, it's attention-seeking and is essentially pointless.
Go eat bananas if you like them. No one cares.

That is correct because my bluetooth sucks, my wireless sucks and should be much better than it is. No other issues besides that. I was just stating a fact that there is not much development for the tablet anymore. That's all I was saying, take it the way you wish but we are all allowed opinions here. thank you
The truth of the matter IMO is that people have come to expect too much. It's the "where's my update" syndrome where people want something new ever other week. Things evolve so fast that yes, a one year old device is practically ancient history. And Asus supported this device for much longer and through many more updates than most other manufacturers do. Take my Motorola Droid 3....please! Seriously my Droid 3 was abandoned by Motorola almost as soon as it was released. My original Droid Came with Android 2.0 then it got 2.1 and 2.2 from Motorola and then 2.3.7 via Cyanogen Mod 7.2 but once on 2.x, always on 2.x. On the other hand on the Prime we went from 3.x to 4.0 to 4.1 and will probably see 4.2 which is really not bad at all. It should also be capable of running future versions of custom ROMs....if the developers keep working on it. But really we have to expect that they will eventually move on too. But these days a year is almost an eternity for a mobile device.

Yes and another no brain response. I was just stating a fact.. don't like tough sh*t. I love my Prime, if I didn't I would have sold it long ago for something better. I was just stating that development has slowed down to a halt.. nothing to do with bananas !. Gezzzz

I don't see it so much as slowing down, more like we have got to the limits of what we can achieve with what we have.
When 4.2 arrives I'm sure you will see some more dev work going on and also there is cyanogenmod which updates nightly if you really want to update regularly.
There is only so much you can do based on the stock rom.

So lets get this straight, you "love" your Prime but you will not be buying another Asus product again. Can you please explain?
