Looks like the XOOM gets the update before we do. Again.
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/07/2...oid-4-1-1-build-jro03h-here-is-the-changelog/
I'm kinda surprised the Verizon version doesn't get it first. I mean people paid a ****load of money for the 3G/4G version they should get JB before or at the same time as the wi-fi Xoom. Of course this is probably due to it being on a carrier and having restrictions.
Either way, it took me awhile to realize that since I had unlocked my bootloader I wasn't going to get any updates from Asus. This is fine since the dev community will put a fully functional JB ROM out before Asus will have it for the Prime I bet (if it hasn't already happened).
The xoom will always get updates first, along with the nexus 7.
It was a google reference device and essentially the first nexus tablet in a way.
Now if Acer or Lenovo or someone else get it before Asus, then dangit asus.
They didnt beat anyone..lol all they did was announce their device will recieve it. just like aSus did.
P.s. whose to say jb on prime isn't already in testing?
isnt the Xoom the nexus device for honeycomb? afaik it is a google experience device so it will likely get it first.

Additionally, this forum is NOT a place to complain about Asus practices. It doesn't add anything to the forum. If you are really that displeased with your Transformer Prime, sell it.

People like you should stay off the Internet. You'll have an early heart attack.
Plus I've been running the team eos build of JB on the prime, and it already seems to operate better then their same ICS build.
It's quite nice and will only get better.

i don't think an official JB release, (which is probably some time away, knowing ASUS' support of this tablet)

I agree with you.
Now that he has a Nexus 7 he will be all over the thread, like he uses to be
on the Prime. Lecturing, tutoring, reprimanding and lauding the Prime against all evidences.
I returned my Prime for three reasons : weakness of the wi-fi, no GPS (even if I am more than "totally satisfied" with the Galaxy Nexus), and an horrible Customer Service.
I strongly intended to buy the Infinity. But the unfixed i/o issue and the built quality (and QC) are a deterrent to me no matter what Demanderin says about Asus.
Apparently Nexus 7 has some QC problems. Not mine. I am ordering a second one this week. It will be my lab to take advantage of the works of our dedicated devs in this Forum. It is also a vote of confidence for Google products, with no bloatware ....so far and quick update releases.
I will buy the Nexus 10, just hoping it will be manufactured by Google-Motorola and not by Asus.
Google will learn from its first experience in the tablet market.
The ranters and whiners as much as the extreme lauders are blind or ignorant ( sorry for the redundancy for an ignorant is blind which is not true for a blind who can be of a superior intelligence.
See you, most of you I mean, on the Nexus 7 thread.
Good luck and good ride on your Prime and Infinity.
Not sure what the fuss is about with Moto Xoom receiving JB...
Moto Xoom is technically a "nexus" device & Google specifically said Moto Xoom will receive JB update by mid-July at Google I/O
Now... Samsung is rumored to update Samsung Galaxy SIII (SII & Galaxy Note to follow soon after) with Jellybean by Aug/Sept...
When you factor in carrier restriction, Touchwiz skin.. and etc... & if Samsung does pull it off before Asus (especially for WIFI only tablet without any carrier restriction).... well, you can start a fuss...
Edit: Speaking of which..Padfone even updated to Android 4.0.4

Along with Moto Xoom getting ICS "beta" test for few users before ICS started to roll out for Asus Transformer Prime...
Didn't the JB "soak test" for the Xoom get delayed anyway?

The Toshiba Excite. OMAP is better than Teg2 but other than being the thinnest tablet, especially with ports, it's pretty ordinary.

Before the original Transformer was announced, I was pretty set on getting the Toshiba Thrive. And then the release kept getting pushed back and back without explanation (hmm, sounds familiar) and I ended up getting the TF101 instead.
Yesterday, I saw a Thrive at my local Best Buy for the first time, and was instantly glad I didn't buy one; it was enormous.
Anyway, good to see the new one won't be so ungainly.

Did you click on the link? The description on the Toshiba site says "February" and "Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)." So it seems that Toshiba may be the first major vendor to deploy ICS on a tablet. That's the part that's interesting, not its specs.

Yes... which is why I went on to say, "I expect Asus to update it with ICS before that point too. I may end up being disappointed. . ."
I still don't understand why you would call something which hasn't been released yet the first anything. Even if it releases February 1, there's still a month and a half between then and now and no reason to expect it will take longer than that for Asus to put out ICS for the Prime.

You guys are so torqued by the potential for a delay and other stuff that I think you've lost your senses of humor. Asus has said all along they want to be the first with ICS. If you weren't so overly sensitive you'd look at what I posted as good news. It means that to beat Toshiba, Asus will probably have ICS out before February.
So.. i think I speak for a lot of hesitant people when i ask this.
Should I?
I had the galaxy tab 7", i now have the xoom (with EOS ICS), i'm not very dependent on the GPS (i use my phone), i am how ever very dependent on wifi, (but not BT)
So.. what do You guys think? if i can live with the GPS flaw and the wifi slowing down using BT at the same time-flaw, is the tab worth it?, would get it with the keyboard docking..

I'm in the same predicament, though I have never had a Tablet, been waiting for the right one. However I'm a full endorser of Android. ICS has made tablets much more usable on a daily basis.
I decided I'm going to get one this weekend (ATP that is), I've read everyone's gripes on here and it still hasn't put me off, as long as I don't get a noticeable fault ie dead pixels.

Absolutely. It'll be June before the TF700 is officially released, and probably a few months later before it'll be readily available in stores. So, figure September or October. Of course, then, you'll be able to come back to the forum and ask if you should get the TF700 or wait for the TF901 that's going to be released in Q4. And then when that's released and available in January of 2013 or so, you'll want to hold off to see what's at CES 2013 before deciding, and come back to the forum and ask if whatever other Tegra 4 device that's announced is really going to be better than the TF901.
Rinse and repeat, forever, until we evolve into entities that can process information with our brains instantly and communicate across vast distances using quantum entanglement and thus won't worry about such mundane things as mobile devices.

Exactly the reason why I've decided to get the 201. Though I don't know why they went from 101, 201, 700....anyone else know the reason for such a jump? lol.
Anyway yea, i think the design for the 201 is much nicer and the screen is still too small to make HD so much more appealing. besides that, I really don't know why the 700 is so much better.

Well if wifi is important to him... its not worth the the risk getting an iffy tablet since he has a xoom for the meantime. Q2 is said to be the official release of the TF700T, do your math a year = 4 Q, 12/4 =3, Jan = 1, 3 = March. I think he can live with using his xoom for a few more months if wifi is really important or another android tablet with comparible specs as the prime comes out without the problems the prime is having.

I'd go for it. Wifi n device works great for me. Had it since 12/22. Its a great device with "Some" known issues affecting a "Minority" of users. Especially if not a GPS buff like some others..lol
Also beware, the dark side will try their hardest to convince you other wise. Make a decision based on both sides. Take a look at all the polls here n your decision will be very clear n easy
If you don't need GPS, get it. The quality issues are getting flushed out, with defective tablets going back. I have a working Champagne (minus GPS, which was still in the spec when I bought it). It's awesome.

True, but from their beta testers (consumers who have the primes) they are able to find out their fatal flaws of the prime. To come out with an actual tablet worth buying... I still say its the "fixed prime" others will disagree that its not the prime. Same hardware with a new backcover, a little better camera, and a little better screen. A pig in human's clothing is still a pig.
And they still screw up with the TF700T, Asus needs to consider replacing their QC.
Go for it. The tf700 is a fair bit more $$$$, and the nicer screen may just be slower/higher battery consumption. Wifi gets 4/4 bars and drops to 3/4 upstairs, so not as good as my laptop that looses no signal at such range, but consistently hits 5-8mbs down and 2 uo. Seems snappy when loading webpages and streams from desktop media just fine.
Cheers!

I don't BELIEVE that's what's going to be announced, but man, that would be pretty cool. I'm still not sure if Office will run on the ARM version (I'm thinking X86 apps won't, but I've seen so much conflicting info lately I"m not sure). Without Office, it would be more of a novelty for me, though.

Maybe they will recall all of them in two weeks, and give us something that works a little smoother, and a tablet with glass that does not break while docked, this would be nice.
Will never happen. Have you seen new article on XDA portal? Regarding win8 tablets being locked down to allow ONLY win8 to boot. Mind you, if they base win8 tablet on TFP, we might get tablet analog of htc hd2.

While windows 8 on prime is not coming officially I can say for near sure, office will be built for Windows on arm for 100% sure. There is no way whatsoever they would leave it out. It is their flagship product and they know very well the only way they will stand a chance in the tablet market is to get office and other desktop like software running on their os.
I also say update to ICS 4.0.4
I'd say ICS update and new 3.0 kernel update. maybe Asus will unlock some of the ICS features found in the phones on our tablet like FaceUnlock, wifi direct transfer, and maybe 5Ghz wifi N band(we currently only have 2.5Ghz N band enabled.
I know one of the ultimate things would be allowing users to unlock without voiding warranty. or at least fully unlocking allowing NVflash and fastboot. I have some other great guesses but I won't mention them. Ill let it be a surprise

Lets just wait. April should be a good one. Dont count your chickens till the eggs are hatched. If there isnt a fix by April, suck for the people with problems. If there is a fix good for them.
Hope that exciting news will make consumers that are having problems with their primes happy and not just an award that the TF201 has has received. It doesnt really suggest anything: I guess we just have to wait in two week if its really exciting or not.
I'd say Android 5.0 confirmation is more likely, possibly a release date?

that wouldn't be news as we've already heard about that for a little while now. there's a few threads on it. I think its too early to jump to a whole new version now. ICS still brand new. Android needs to catch everyone up to ICS before updating to next version. fragmentation needs to be minimized as much as possible.

Kinda wondering whether I should sell this tablet and replace it with something newer. Asus hasn't put out any new updates and the only good ROM dev is jumping ship.
Anyone know if we are going to continue to see updates or custom roms for this thing or is it time to move on already?
In Custom ROM land, IMHO often varies based on the developers. For example dev on my phone's ROM has slowed because the most active dev bought a new One X.
ASUS wise, expect to be first or third in line for updates for a while more.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah... I mean, I haven't compared this dev section to other tablets, but it seriously seems lacking. Everything is ASOP kang builds which all seem to have problems. I like the Wook ROM, but that dev is going to a different tablet. And ASUS hasn't released anything since .28. Pretty weak.
that's one of the primary reasons i'm so frustrated about my tf201. i mean seriously? GPS problems to the extent it's virtually non exiustent, Wifi isn't that good...and in europe/ germany in my case, you don't even got the option to bring it back to where you bought it to exchange it like the bestbuy trick alot of the folks here are using.
My Serial Number for getting the GPS-Dongle wasn't working until yesterday so officially the time to get a free dongle is over.seriously wtf asus...
I'm not sure about other devs but currently my computer is down (has been for a while) so the my prime is the only thing I have. Once I get a new computer I will continue working on things for the prime.

Y....And ASUS hasn't released anything since .28. Pretty weak.

.28 just came out on June 13th and you find it "Pretty weak" that there have been no updates since then? I'm curios what devices you have that get updated more often than the TFP? I'ts my experience that this device gets updated more frequently than pretty much anything out there. Anyway I doubt anyone wants to bother much with another 4.0.x update now with 4.1 just around the corner.
Why would you post this. We want more developers and people to buy the tablet but when they see all these posts about it having bad support and just people degrading it they won't buy it.

They were never here.
I don't think it's a matter of where have the dev's all gone, they were really given an opportunity to jump on the boat.
With all the hardware issues and locked bootloader I doubt many would get on board now.
I'm also sad to see that AndroWook has been discontinued.
I am hopeful that JB breath new life into the tablet though, fingers crossed.
edit: The fact that the community had to devise a method for using nvflash speaks volumes about how useless ASUS is.
Just one year after, the Prime development is dead. Two roms have been updated a month ago and much appreciated work on them. But that's about it. What was once the tablet of the future, Asus made it a flop, A $500 flop at that. How poor, I'll never buy another Asus tablet or PC again. I had mine since day one and have no problems with. I wish everyone could say that.
Thank you for your contribution. We definitely needed another one of these threads.
Long live the Prime!
Yes, as said before, this is the problem with people who jump on these forums and fill it with non-sense, gripe and make an atmosphere of uncertainty and unthankfulness.. Yes, thanks for the positive outlook indeed.

This is not true. lilstevie and tux_mind are VERY close to perfecting an Ubuntu dual boot. Think about it, Volume Up to boot Android; Volume Down to boot Ubuntu. That would be the coolest thing in the history of things. This is what I have been waiting for since 2008. Sooo... STFU.
Prime is dead
Mine truly is----at ASUS RMA facility for the third time since purchase
first 2 times wif-bluetooth issue in shop for 1.5 months
this time green camera
Truly a 500$ 650 if you count the dock peice of c***
There are very few primes around in my country so i don't care if its dead, i have a special device and its working perfectly.
But i think my next tablet (i hope the prime works for a long time) will be one with a digitizer for pens. Like the galaxy note 10.1. In my situation i prefer that over a keyboard.
Long live the prime.
I've had mine since day one. Never had reason to complain about it at all. Two friends have bought them after seeing mine. Still use it every day. I wish I had two.

I really like mine it replaced my laptop ... i also like the build quality. Samsung plastics are not my kind of thing. Drawbacks are wifi performance and the system to connect tablet and keyboard could use some rethinking.

I think that the Development is very slow mostly because around a 50% of users have their Bootloader locked, so lots of people couldn't use other roms, kernels or mods (and of course if a user wants to start a develop and has it's Prime locked, simply he can't).
I bought the tf201 a month ago because I didn't know anything about Bootloader, I thought that I could flash a kernel for OC or something similar. I try to unlock and I couldn't, and now I'm happy with it, because my tf201 died a week ago. When it returns from the RMA, I'll try to sell it. That's all, and this is the last ASUS tablet I'll buy.

I find it interesting as to how much people are influenced by the opinions and experiences of others. In one breath you say you'll never buy another Asus tablet again and in the next you say you've had your Prime for over a year and have had no problems with it.

Let me help you out a little, jordache. I'm quite happy with my Prime. I've not had problems with it. I have several Wireless APs at my home, so it's saturated with signal. As a result, I've not had problems with the wifi. I've chosen not to Root or Unlock my Prime, so I've not had the headaches there that others have had. As the features go (HDMI, Micro-SD, SD, USB, additional battery in keyboard dock), the Prime is top notch. I'd still take it over an iPad any day of the week.
Having said all of that, Asus's post-sale hardware support is terrible. So terrible that I probably won't buy another Asus product. I managed to lose a couple of rubber feet on the dock. When I inquired about getting some replacement feet, Asus wanted me to do an RMA on the dock. I'm not impressed.

The original post in this thread is the equivalent to someone standing up in the middle of a conference on economics and yelling "I LIKE BANANAS".
Sure, they have every right to like bananas, but it isn't helpful, it's attention-seeking and is essentially pointless.
Go eat bananas if you like them. No one cares.

That is correct because my bluetooth sucks, my wireless sucks and should be much better than it is. No other issues besides that. I was just stating a fact that there is not much development for the tablet anymore. That's all I was saying, take it the way you wish but we are all allowed opinions here. thank you
The truth of the matter IMO is that people have come to expect too much. It's the "where's my update" syndrome where people want something new ever other week. Things evolve so fast that yes, a one year old device is practically ancient history. And Asus supported this device for much longer and through many more updates than most other manufacturers do. Take my Motorola Droid 3....please! Seriously my Droid 3 was abandoned by Motorola almost as soon as it was released. My original Droid Came with Android 2.0 then it got 2.1 and 2.2 from Motorola and then 2.3.7 via Cyanogen Mod 7.2 but once on 2.x, always on 2.x. On the other hand on the Prime we went from 3.x to 4.0 to 4.1 and will probably see 4.2 which is really not bad at all. It should also be capable of running future versions of custom ROMs....if the developers keep working on it. But really we have to expect that they will eventually move on too. But these days a year is almost an eternity for a mobile device.

Yes and another no brain response. I was just stating a fact.. don't like tough sh*t. I love my Prime, if I didn't I would have sold it long ago for something better. I was just stating that development has slowed down to a halt.. nothing to do with bananas !. Gezzzz

I don't see it so much as slowing down, more like we have got to the limits of what we can achieve with what we have.
When 4.2 arrives I'm sure you will see some more dev work going on and also there is cyanogenmod which updates nightly if you really want to update regularly.
There is only so much you can do based on the stock rom.

So lets get this straight, you "love" your Prime but you will not be buying another Asus product again. Can you please explain?
